Udupi: District Administration Observes National Voters Day in City

Udupi: The District administration in association with the Zilla Panchayat observed “National Voters Day” to create awareness among voters at the Lions Bhavan Brahmagiri here on Sunday, January 25.

The programme began with an invocation. Additional deputy commissioner Kumar welcomed the gathering. M Kanagavalli, Chief Executive Officer of zilla panchayat, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Deputy commissioner Dr R Vishal administrated the oath on the occasion.

In his inaugural message M Kanagavalli said that this day is celebrated to create awareness among the voters about the importance of their democratic duty. “Every eligible voter, who has completed the age of 18, should be enrolled in the voters list and encouraged to cast his/her vote in the elections.”

Annamalaiah, District superintendent of Police, distributed the Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) to the newly registered voters on the occasion. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the essay, painting and debate competitions held as part of the National Voters Day.

In his presidential message Deputy Commissioner Dr R Vishal said that as responsible citizens we have to contribute towards the formation of the government. “Voting is a political right and one should remember that each and every vote is valuable, so cast your votes after checking the track record of each candidate,” he added.
