Incessant rains that lashed the district have increased the inflow of water into major rivers in the district, causing floods in low-lying areas resulting in heavy damages. As heavy rains continued to lash the region, the district administration declared holiday for all the schools and colleges on July 20, Monday as a precautionary measure.
A report from Bhatkal, which also experienced heavy rain, stated that strong winds have uprooted electric poles and coconut trees in different parts of UttarKannada district and several houses in Bhatkal were in danger following severe sea erosion. Several low lying areas were flooded.
