She was speaking after inaugurating the Kanakadasa Jayanthi organized by the district administration, the Zilla Panchayat and the Kannada and Culture department at the Government Pre-University College on Saturday, November 28.

“Kanakdasa fought to rid the society of superstition and casteism. His principles and messages are still relevant for the present day. Kanakadasa strictly believed that one should respect one’s profession to lead a successful life. The saint’s life and his works are a model to all,” she said.

The principles and preachings of Kanakadasa need to be emulated by everyone. His works are a blend of spirituality, moral principles and values, she added.

Superintendent of Police Udupi district, Annamalai, who was the chief guest of the function, said that Kanakadasa’s teachings should not be confined to any particular community as he worked for all. “The youth should learn more and more about Kanakadasa,” he said.
