Kolkata, April 9 (IANS) A dejected Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday said his team failed to execute the plans and hoped the boys would learn from their mistakes and figure out what needed to be done.

With the Mumbai Indians having gone down to title holders Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets in the Indian Premier League opener at the Eden Gardens here, Rohit said they needed to score 10-15 runs more after being put in to bat. Also the bowlers should have done “a little better”.

“We were probably 10-15 runs short, but I would say…the kind of wicket given to us… we could have done a little better with the ball. There was something for the bowlers still.”

The Mumbai Indians had notched up 168/3, but the KKR cantered to 170/3 with nine balls to spare.

Rohit hoped the MI would pick up and come out in a positive manner.

“We should have executed our plans really well. But I hope the guys can pick it up and come out in a positive manner.

“The wicket was really good, you saw how easily they chased down 170. It was a good knock, but ending up on the losing side doesn’t please you,” he said after the match.

He said the team needed to think over the mistakes and ensure they did not repeat them.

“I think the guys can learn from this game. Mistakes were made. We shouldn’t repeat them. Once we go back to MumbaI we shall figure out what needs to be done. And come back well.”
