Will Improve Facilities in KSRTC Bus stands – Transport Minister D C Thammanna

Udupi: Transport Minister D C Thammanna said that the State government will improve basic amenities in KSRTC bus stands and also take up initiatives to improve the revenue of transport corporations.

He was speaking to media persons after visiting the JnNURM and the New KSRTC bus-stands under construction on Friday, November 16.

The work on the construction of a new bus stand for JnNURM buses in Udupi will be completed soon. The bus stand will also accommodate commercial complexes. Depending on the need, floors will be added to the building.

He further said that parking space has been provided at the cellar. The ground and first floor will be exclusively for commercial outlets.

Rupees 5 crores has been sanctioned for the construction of a bus stand in Byndoor. “In new taluks where there is no place for government offices, we can give some space for them in the places allotted for the new bus stand so that it will generate revenue,” he said.

Rupees 30 crores has been sanctioned for the construction of a KSRTC inter-district bus stand-cum-commercial complex here in Udupi. The complex would have a car parking facility and commercial establishments. Bus bays would be constructed in the front side of the complex. A total of Rs 45 crore worth projects of KSRTC are under construction in Udupi district.

Around 460 RTO and traffic posts and 139 Brake inspectors’ posts are pending at various levels in the Supreme Court and KPSC respectively owing to disputes.

The government has decided to make some arrangements for appointments. The online system has been introduced to check corruption. New offices for both the RTO and ARTO, for the time being, will not be allotted unless all vacant posts are filled, he said.
