Amchi Baas Konkani! MA Course in Konkani at MU

Mangaluru: Mangaluru University will be offering MA course in Konkani in its University Evening College effective August 2016

Mangaluru : The efforts put in by the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy (KKSA) under the able leadership of its president Roy Castelino and his bevy of committee members to start an MA course in Konkani at the Mangaluru University has been fruitful. Effective August 2016, MA course in Konkani will be offered by Mangaluru University in its University evening college located at Hampankatta in the City. Earlier in India, this post-graduate degree course in Konkani was available only in Goa University.

Speaking to, Roy Castelino, president of KKSA said, ” The Goa University was very helpful in giving us the guidelines for this MA Konkani course. We had held discussions with the Konkani lecturers regarding the Konkani studies at Mangaluru University and the University has prepared the syllabus for the academic year 2016-17 with the cooperation of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Konkani Study Chair.The opening of Konkani chair at the University and now the start of MA Konkani course here are steps taken in the right direction. This also proves that great friendship exists between Konkani and Kannada people. “

Castelino further said, ” This two-year PG course classes will be held in the evenings at the MU Evening College so that working people, house-wives, and the general public will find it convenient to pursue their post-graduate degree in Konkani. We will also provide Scholarships for the course through the academy, groups and organizations”.
