Father Muller Medical College inaugurates Student Council 2018-19
Mangaluru: The inaugural ceremony of the Student Council of Father Muller Medical College was held on 1 October 2018 at the Decennial Memorial Hall.
Riya Zahir, General Secretary of the student council (2017-18), extended a cordial welcome to the gathering.
Chief Guest, Dr Melanie Rodrigues, Instructor, Department of Surgery, Stanford University congratulated the newly elected student council representatives and wished them good luck. Emphasizing the importance of student council, she said, working as a student representative would not only benefit the institution but also boosts the students’ career. The potential to make Mangalore a major medical hub is within the ambit of the students. She further asked the students to always remain at the forefront whenever opportunities arise and make the most of them.
Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director, FMCI, while addressing the gathering, appreciated the previous council, for their hard work and congratulated the new student’s council and shared a few words of wisdom.
Rev. Fr Ajith B. Menezes, Administrator of Father Muller Medical College declared the new office bearers. Jerome Joseph handed over the college flag to Roshan Mariam Manu, which marked the beginning of the new student’s council. The new office bearers were then given their badges by the Chief Guest, following which, they vowed to uphold their duties as Student Council Members, by swearing an oath, guided by the Dean, FMMC, Dr Jayaprakash Alva.
Jerome Joseph shared his previous encounters, which was followed, by a speech, from the newly elected President, Roshan Mariam Manu who shared her thoughts, ideas, goals and agendas for the upcoming year.
Later, Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho gave a memento of appreciation to the Chief Guest and presented the certificates to the members and the staff advisors of the previous council, for their extraordinary work and efforts.
Eileen Roy, General Secretary of the student council (2018-19) proposed the vote of thanks. Sushmitha Ravi Kumar compered the programme.
HOD’s of various departments, teaching, non-teaching staff and students of the institution were present on the occasion.
A Student Council in any Educational Institution is very important. In a Medical Institution a Student Council can be very instrumental in generating new ideas and suggestions that can attribute so many short term and long term benefits not only for the students but also for the patients that utilize the services of the Institution.
Any matters relating to health are vital to the community that depends on the effectiveness of the Medical Institution. The students have so many bright ideas to express and share with the authorities. Many of these ideas can be difficult to compromise due to financial or administrative constraints, but the ideas should not be ignored at any cost. The ideas should be nurtured at all levels and effective measures have to be taken into consideration so that the patients get the ultimate benefit from these ideas.
We wish best of success to the Student Council in all their deliberations on future improvements of the Medical Institution. Let the patients get the best possible satisfaction, and let the Medical Institution make their ideas become a reality sooner or later, depending on various circumstances.
