14 Times Guinness Record Holder Rakshith Shetty Wins 1st Place in 21K NITK Marathon

Mangaluru: Seems like for this 32-year-old man He Can’t Stop Running & Winning? And for that matter, after bagging his 14th Guinness World Record in Marathon, for his Half Marathon in the Mysuru Marathon event held in September 2017, wearing a Scout Uniform, Rakshith Shetty has once again won the First Place in the NITK Half Marathon of 21km where 77 other runners took part- his first place fetched him a trophy and Rs 21,000 cash prize.

For Rakshith there is no stop in attaining Guinness World Records one after the other. Rakshith Shetty of Mangaluru has been “keep going and going and going” in the marathon and has been entering and entering and entering himself in the Guinness Book of World Records. As of date he has achieved 14th Guinness World Record running in the “Half marathon Mysore marathon (September 2017), wearing Scout Uniform- and in the same race, he won the third place. Team Mangalorean has been supporting Rakshith’s efforts in this sport is very proud to note that he has now 14 Guinness World Records to his credit. Congrats buddy!

Aday before the NITK Marathon, I had received a call from Rakshith Shetty regarding some other matter, but while we were communicating I informed him about the NITK Marathon, which he was not aware of. Even though I tried to convince him to take part in this Marathon, he was bit reluctant to participate. Then I told him, “Take my word, if you decide and run in this Marathon, you will surely win, and that’s sure”- I guess Rakshith took my advice seriously, and next day morning, he ran in this Marathon, and won the Firts place- and he called me immediately after his success. Really proud of this man- it’s about time someone recognize his achievements and support him in his endeavours.

NITK Karavali Marathon 18 organized and sponsored by NITKS Alumni Association (NITKSAA) was a tremendous success. The Half marathon of 21 km with 78 participants was flagged off by Raghunandan 2003 Batch Alumni of NITK and Co Founder Of Taxi for Sure (Which was merged with OLA) and also known as “Iron Man”. (One has to complete full marathon, 4km swimming in the sea and 180 km of cycling within 17 hours to get the award and Mr Raghunandan holds the record with less than 14 hrs). There were 332 participants for 10km event, 738 participants in 6.6km category and 1026 participants in 3.3km category.

2174 students and Alumni and 146 outsiders participated in the event. Beach front was full of excitement and energy and bustling with activities related to the event in the morning today. NITK Surathkal Alumni Association which works closely with students had organized this event in association with Rotaract Club of Surathkal NITK and Student Council of NITK. The best part was that the event was fully organized by the students which provided invaluable experience in conducting such a large event.

In Half Marathon: 1st Prize was bagged by Rakshit Shetty with Cash Prize -Rs.21000; 2nd Prize- Shashank K Pai (Rs.13000); and 3rd Prize- Ravi B (Rs.8000); In 10 km Run for Men :1st Prize – Ashvin D’Silva (Rs 10000); 2nd Prize-Prakrith (Rs.5000); and 3rd Prize-Shreepath (Rs.3000); In 10 km Run for Women: 1st Prize-Shivani R (Rs.5000), 2nd Prize- Saraswathi (Rs 4000) and 3rd Prize- Dr.Prameela (Rs 3000) . A large contingent of men and women Marathon runners came from MRPL and also a Doctor couple took part, and one of them (Dr.Prameela from KMC) who won a prize. Apart from prizes for 21 km and 10 km run, prizes were also given in 3.3km and 6.6km runs in both men and women category.

NITK Karavali Marathon, NITKS Alumni Association believes that promoting a healthier lifestyle among students of NITK as well in the greater Karavali region is getting the right impetus and aware. With the NITK Karavali Marathon, NITKS Alumni Association and NITK Students are dedicated to promoting a healthier lifestyle for each and every person in the greater Karavali region. With such a lifestyle, lethargy, obesity, diseases and many negative aspects can be fully eliminated.

In conclusion, Exercise, is something we learn is required in a balanced life is being more and more supported to help fight depression. Thus, NITK Karavali Marathon members had dedicated to promoting a healthier lifestyle for each and every person in the greater Karavali region.
