Off late, the pressure is a lot on teachers and principals to conceive and deliver a program at the time of Annual Day/Function which is as good as it is shown during the reality shows and award nite’s on the TV channels. The entire production values involved with the programme have gone upstream. For most of the programmes nowadays, the organizers have a binding theme. Let’s talk about the importance of keeping the Mother Nature and the Planet safe and clean, and for that matter, the staff and teachers of St Aloysius College Higher Primary School (SACHPS) had come up with a unique theme named “Save the Mother Earth. Save the Planet’, thereby thinking about the importance of nature, and also to bring awareness among the children and adults the goodness of nature and environment.

The most anxiously awaited Annual Day celebration of St. Aloysius College Higher Primary School began with a prayer song. Talk about the tiny tots in action- and for that matter the L.K.G students got into action with a song, followed by thrilling dance performance by U.K.G. Dance- and the students from both these grades were phenomenon. The welcome address was delivered by Master Alan Jason Menezes- the School Pupil Leader. Archibald Menezes, Executive Director, Jaysons Agritech Pvt. Ltd., graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Rev. He also said that we are living in the world of performances. Society has given guidelines to us. A child needs to present himself well in the society. “It is indeed nice to note that the school management is encouraging these young students to take part in co-curricular activities, like giving all of them a chance to unleash their talents during today’s programme. Parents and teachers should play an important role in children’s development”.

“In the era of social media, children are getting spoiled through various means of digital gadgets. Parents need to keep an eye on their children especially when they are browsing through the Internet and so on. These days every step or stage is a performance. What we do, what we eat is guided by society. These sort of guidance also help and make a child grow to be smarter and brighter when they reach their adult stage. This institute is doing yeomen service in nurturing and training the children to be a good citizen of this nation. Also parents should not force too many things on their children, which will frustrate them. Parents should do a balancing act” added Menezes. He stated that he felt highly honoured and elated to witness the Annual Day.

In his Presidential address Rector, Fr. Dionysius Vaz SJ said that our primary school is a heaven on earth where the budding talents of children blossom. He said that asking questions is forever learning. He requested the teachers and parents to help children ask questions and answer them in their own way. He further said that we need to monitor how our children are in their peer and friendship skills and also help them to improve socio-emotional and spiritual skills. He cited examples of how children from our institutions grow in compassion.

“Quoting Martin Luther King Jr- “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will be judged not by colour of their skin but by the content of their character”. I also wish the same with these 799 students of our Jesuit Society’s ‘St Aloysius College Higher Primary School’ that they too one day live in our India happily and in harmony, where they will be judged not by their color of their skin but by the content of their character and talents”- added Fr Rector. The Rector also thanked the former Correspondent Rev. Fr Eric Mathias SJ and welcomed the new Correspondent Rev. Fr Gerald Furtado SJ.

The spectacular and glittering Annual Day showbiz ended with the reciting of School Anthem. Long live St Aloysius HPS and its Teachers and students!

And while this Annual Day fell during the joyous season of Christmas, which is all about Sharing and Giving, and with all these beautiful and young at heart children spreading the love and joy of Christmas, it would be nice that they too as young children involve in the Sharing and Giving spirit, and therefore I end this column with a very thoughtful lyrics from the song “We Are The World” (We Are The Children who make a brighter day, and so let’s start giving…)
