Anti-drug Abuse Awareness programme, 53 Cases Registered in 2 months – SP Laxman Nimbargi
Udupi: “In line with the anti-drug abuse awareness programme, the police department has taken strict action against the consumption and sale of drugs during August and September. A total of 53 cases were registered in Udupi district in two months”, said SP Laxman B Nimbargi during the phone-in programme held at the district Police office Bannanje here on September 28.
47 persons were arrested in 47 cases for consuming Ganja. Of the 6 cases related to the sale of Ganja, 14 persons were arrested and 10.5 kg of Ganja worth 4 lakhs were seized.
A husband called and complained to the SP that his wife and her family members were harassing him for many years. Replying to the caller SP Laxman Nimbargi advised him to visit the counseling center along with his wife.
A complainant from Mandarthi said the Ashwathakatte near Mandarthi has become a place for the drunkards. Youth were sitting on the Ashwathakatte and troubling the women and the Public. The SP assured the complainant that the problem will be solved in two days.
There was a complaint on illegal parking at Brahmagiri Circle on the road stretching from the Ajjarkadu to the Ambalpadi. A caller from Udupi complained about irregular parking near the Kalsanka Junction area. The SP received calls on family disputes too, for which he assured of looking into the issue.
The police superintendent registered as many as 22 complaints during the phone-in programme including LED Lights on vehicles, Matka issue, Chit Fund related, migrant labourers problems and others.
After the previous phone-in programme, 49 Matka cases were registered and 51 persons arrested. 13 gambling cases were registered and 90 arrested. Three arrested in one illegal liquor sale case. 58 persons were arrested in an NDPS case. 99 cases were registered under COTPA, 69 for drunk driving, 239 for shrill horns, 156 cases for using mobiles while riding/driving, 1478 cases for riding without helmets, 73 cases for over speed and 4292 cases for other crimes under the Motor Vehicles Act.
