Assault on ASI Aithappa, Conspiracy to defame PFI – Ashraf

Mangaluru: “In regard to the police atrocities on Quraishi, when the protesters demanded justice, the police resorted to Lathi charge. The police now claim that the PFI activists pelted stones on them, but if you check the CCTV footage or any of the videos, there is no evidence of stones being pelted. The protesters were demanding the release of Ahmed Quraishi who is in the ICU suffering from Kidney failure”, said the Secretary of PFI Ashraf A K in a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands here on April 6.

Addressing the mediapersons Ashraf said, “Health condition of Quraishi is very poor, the CCB police had arrested Quraishi when he was having lunch in the court canteen. He was in the court premises to attend a case. The CCB police have assaulted Quraishi in an inhuman manner. The CCB Inspector and his team should be suspended immediately and action should be taken against those responsible for the atrocities on the innocent Youth”.

Ashraf also said, “The PFI activists were demanding justice for Quraishi in front of the police commissioner’s office and they were protesting peacefully. But the police resorted Lathi charge on the protesters. The police also arrested the protesters after the lathi charge which is anti-constitutional. The lathi charge has caused injuries to more than 65 protesters and 9 of them are severely injured and have been admitted to the hospital.”

Ashraf further said, “The atrocities against the minority Muslims is a condemnable act by the police and is a violation of human rights. The CCB inspector along with the sub-inspector and other police should be booked under the criminal act. Compensation should be given to Quraishi. The police commissioner has assured to take strict action against the police officers within four days. But if the commissioner will not take action we will intensify our protest against the police department.”

Ashraf also said, “It is very sad that the police sub-inspector of Urwa station Aithappa was assaulted by miscreants. PFI condemns the assault on Aithappa. Let there be an investigation in the Aithappa assault case since there are rumours that the PFI members had assaulted Aithappa in retaliation for the lathi charge on its activists on April 4. This is a conspiracy by the anti-social elements to defame the PFI and see that it is blamed. ASI Aithappa’s assault should be thoroughly investigated and action should be taken against those who are involved.”

State committee member PFI Shaafi Bellare, District president PFI Nawaz Ullal, District Secretary Siraj Kavoor, District committee member of PFI Abubacker and others were also present.
