Bengaluru: In a major setback to Shri Raghaveshwara Bharati of Shri Ramachandrapura Math in Hosanagara, the high court bench consisting of Justices Anand Byrareddy and N Anand turned down a revision appeal from him to drop the charges of sexual assault levelled by a former female vocalist of the Math’s troupe
The court observed that it was not proper to delay the court proceedings by filing appeals at every stage. The court reminded the plaintiff of its option to impose a fine, but it was not doing so because it would be a burden on the devotees. He was instructed to cooperate with the investigating officials.
Further, the court also said that the inquiry was at its final stage and it could not accept the petition and drop the charges. Hence the court dismissed the appeal.
Five judges had recused themselves from the case in a row and hence the chief justice had constituted a two-member bench afresh. Former advocate general B V Acharya argued for the plaintiff while the government was represented by additional advocate general A S Ponnanna.
