Bienvenue (Welcome) to France! Local Doctors to Attend IInd Indo French Forensic Congress-Lyon, France
Mangaluru: Two years ago, the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangaluru, Manipal University hosted the FIRST INDO-FRENCH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS-2017 on 23rd and 24th November 2017. The highly resourceful conference was attended by more than 100 delegates comprising forensic experts, doctors, lawyers, police officers from all over India and a bunch of delegates from France, also. The Congress saw a sizable gathering of students, post graduates and doctors, as the conference was packed with fruitful scientific sessions like guest lectures and quality E-poster presentations, of medico legal importance.”
The Conference was accredited from the Karnataka Medical Council, had the theme, “CONNECTIONS BRIDGING THE PRESENT AND FUTURE IN FORENSICS” with the rapid growth of forensic research and medical education between two Nations-India and France..The two days programme was designed to cover the theme of the conference with the highlight on newer forensic research, recent advances in forensic medicine for crime detection and concrete and uniform guidelines in practice of forensic medicine and toxicology. The conference was a collaboration meeting between Manipal University and Claude Bernard Lyon University-France, and it also happened to be the FIRST ever assembly between two nations in the world of forensics. The two-day conference was designed to cover new and pertinent topics with a thrust on current Forensic and Medical Research, recent advances in Forensics for crime detection and to formulate concrete, uniform guidelines in the science of Forensic medicine and toxicology. Eminent experts from India, France and other countries gave talks on various topics.

But this year, the Second Indo French Forensic Congress in Lyon, France will be conducted on 13th, 14th June 2019. Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Dr. B Suresh Kumar Shetty ( Professor & Head, State Medico legal Consultant , Government of Karnataka [DK, Udupi and Coorg Dist.] Department of Forensic Medicine, Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (M.A.H.E) said, ” After the grand success of First Indo French Forensic Congress in Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangaluru in the year 2017, the Second Indo French Forensic Congress will be held in Lyon, France, as per the MoU, Lyon, France. It will be jointly organised by Jean Moulin Universite Lyon III (801 in QS World University Rankings in 2019), Universite Claude Bernard Lyon I(601-650 in QS World University Rankings in 2019) and Department of Forensic Medicine, KMC Mangaluru, MAHE”.

Dr Shetty further said, “This would be the first time any forensic congress has been jointly conducted other than Indian soil. This makes us as a department and esteemed MAHE as university proud. As a joint organizing secretary and team member of this Congress, I feel pride in informing and sharing this achievement with the administrators of our college and University and thank you all profusely for your encouragement and support. The delegation includes three members from our department : Myself (Dr B Suresh Kumar Shetty, Dr Jagadish Rao PP and Dr Pavanchand Shetty ( all from Forensic Dept) Dr Adithi S Hegde (Obstetrics and Gynaecology- KMC College and MAHE, Manipal); Private secretary from state cadre-Prabhulinga Kavalakatti; and a Supreme Court lawyer-Anand Sanjay M Nulli. We are honoured to represent India for the first time in Forensics.
