Bishop Dr Peter Saldanha launches DCCW website and Roy Castelino Releases Jagran During AGM

Mangaluru: The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) held its 64th Annual General Meeting at Roshni Nilaya, Valencia, on June 7, marked by the launch of the DCCW website and the release of the annual Jagran magazine.

The event commenced with an invocation led by DCCW members, followed by a welcome address from DCCW President Gretta Pinto. Secretary Violet Pereira presented the annual report, and Treasurer Leena Fernandes delivered the annual accounts statement.

A highlight of the meeting was the felicitation of Anita D’Souza, recent recipient of the Krishi Raitha Ratna award. Jacintha Mascarenhas introduced D’Souza to the attendees, after which Bishop of Mangalore Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, along with Mangalore Diocese PRO Roy Castelino and Spiritual Director Fr Francis D’Souza, honored her for her achievements.

Roy Castelino released the annual Jagran magazine and addressed the gathering, reflecting on the respect due to women in society. He shared anecdotes from his professional life, emphasizing the sincerity and dedication he has observed in women across various fields. “Women are equal in every field, and their sincerity often surpasses that of men,” he stated. He lauded DCCW’s 64 years of dedicated service, while also noting the need to encourage younger women to join the organization. Castelino further urged attendees to encourage the younger generation to pursue government jobs to remain in their hometowns and care for their parents.

Bishop Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha officially launched the DCCW website, accessible at https://www.diocesancouncilcatholicwomen.com.

In his address, Bishop Saldanha emphasized the integral role of women in families and communities. “God created man and woman, but woman was created with perfection,” he remarked, highlighting their nurturing nature and strengthening influence. He drew attention to the importance of educating women, likening it to educating an entire village. He further encouraged the DCCW to recognize and honor at least three women achievers in the coming year, citing Sunita Williams and Kalpana Chawla as inspirational role models.

Fr. Francis D’Souza acknowledged the strong connection he has maintained with DCCW over the past 13 years and expressed his continued commitment despite his transfer to Bajpe. He also mentioned the Women’s Minority Bank’s 10th anniversary, encouraging continued support for the initiative.

Avitha Mascarenhas from Bondel and Shaila Crasta from Milagres were inducted as life members of DCCW.

A session was held to address legal queries from DCCW members, focusing on marriage registration and WILL. Advocate Sylvia, PRO of DCCW, provided clarification and guidance to address their concerns.
