Case Registered Against Vasanth Giliyar for Alleged Incendiary Social Media Post

Belthangady: A formal complaint has been lodged against Vasanth Giliyar at the Belthangady Police Station, resulting in the registration of a case against the individual. The charges stem from a message allegedly disseminated via the social media platform Facebook, which authorities contend is likely to incite animosity between religious groups.

The complaint was filed by Shekhar Layila, who brought to the attention of the Belthangady police a specific post made by Vasanth Giliyar. Layila asserts that the content of the Facebook message possesses the potential to sow discord and create antagonism between diverse religious communities, thereby jeopardizing the prevailing social harmony within the region.

In response to the complaint, the Belthangady Police Station has initiated legal proceedings, registering a case under sections 196(1)(A) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections pertain to offenses related to statements conducing to public mischief and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace, respectively.

Authorities have not yet released specific details regarding the content of the allegedly inflammatory Facebook post. The Belthangady Police are currently investigating the matter to ascertain the veracity of the claims made in the complaint and to determine the extent to which the message contravenes existing laws about the maintenance of public order and inter-community relations.

The case underscores the growing concern regarding the potential for social media platforms to be used as vehicles for spreading misinformation and inciting hatred. Law enforcement agencies across the country are increasingly vigilant in monitoring online activity that could pose a threat to social cohesion and communal harmony. The investigation is ongoing.
