Cracking Emergencies When Seconds Count: EMERGENCY NEUROCON at FMCI
Mangalore: The Department of Emergency Medicine in collaboration with the Department of Neurology, Father Muller Medical College, hosted EMERGENCY NEUROCON on 21st June 2025 at the Decennial Memorial Hall, Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), Mangaluru. With the apt theme “Cracking Emergencies When Seconds Count,” the CME aimed to sharpen the decision-making skills of doctors and healthcare professionals in handling neurological emergencies where time is the most critical factor.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof Emeritus Dr. I.G. Bhat, senior neurologist, and the Chief Guest for the occasion, who emphasized the importance of continuous learning and hands-on training in neuro care. “The brain is the most precious organ, and even seconds matter in its care. We must be ever prepared,” he stated, wishing success to the gathering of delegates and speakers.
Rev. Fr Faustine Luca Lobo, Director of FMCI, presided over the function. In his address, he highlighted the importance of time management not only in emergency care but in life itself. “In neurology, a few minutes’ delay can mean the difference between life and disability. I urge the delegates to absorb not just the knowledge here but also the spirit and legacy of our 145-year-old institution,” he said, inviting all to explore the FMCI campus.
Also present on the dais were Fr Ajith B. Menezes, Administrator – FMMC, FMCOP, and FMCOAHS; Fr George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator – FMMCH; Dr Antony Sylvan D’Souza, Dean – FMMC; Dr. Kiran Shetty, HOD – Emergency Medicine and Deputy Medical Superintendent; and Dr. Raghavendra B.S., HOD – Neurology.
Dr. Raghavendra B.S. welcomed the gathering, describing the CME as a window of opportunity for delegates across Karnataka to witness and understand the comprehensive treatment pathways followed at FMCI, with the goal of applying this learning in their own clinical practice.
The day-long academic sessions were curated to challenge, educate, and equip delegates with rapid response strategies. Topics included:

The event was jointly organised by the departments of Emergency Medicine and Depart. of Neurology of Father Muller Medical College. Organising secretaries were Dr. Vimala Colaco (Associate Professor, Neurology), and Dr. Deeksha Poojary (Senior Resident, Emergency Medicine), who meticulously planned each session to ensure maximum clinical relevance and impact. The event was compered by Dr Niveditha (Assistant Professor, Emergency Medicine).
EMERGENCY NEUROCON 2025 stood as a testament to FMCI’s commitment to advanced, interdisciplinary medical education—reinforcing the motto that when seconds count, preparation makes all the difference.
