District Youth Congress Stages Protest Against BJP Govt on Price Hike

Mangaluru: The district Youth Congress staged a protest against the Union government for the hike in prices for day-to-day commodities, fuel and the new law for the use of generic medicines in front of the DC office here on April 27.

Addressing the protesters President of District Youth congress Mithun Rai said, “After BJP coming to power at the Centre, the price for fuel and day-to-day commodities has been drastically increased. People face difficulties because of the hike in prices. In Karnataka, the Congress government led by Chief minister Siddaramaiah is distributing free rice through Anna Bhagya to the BPL families so most of the people in the state do not feel the hike in prices. It is the duty of the youth Congress to bring awareness among the people about the hike in prices for all basic commodities.”

Mithun further said, “Recently Prime minister Modi announced that there will be a law for the doctors to prescribe generic medicines and not branded ones. In our country, more than 10 lakh people work in pharmacies. Doctors are treated as God’s in our country but the statement of Modi to prescribe generic medicines has created a fear in the people of the doctors. Every doctor wants their patients to be cured and be healthy and they prescribe the best medicine. Modi should withdraw the statement to make Generic medicines mandatory”, Mithun stressed.

Addressing the protesters Dr Shekhar Poojary Bajpe said, “The BJP government led by Prime minister Modi came to power by fooling the people. In their manifesto, BJP had promised to bring back the black money within hundred days of coming to power and credit Rs 15 lakh to the account of every citizen. After coming to power he said that he would eliminate terrorism and corruption. But has failed. To mislead the people from his failures he had played a high drama of banning the notes. When the notes were banned businesses and the banking sectors collapsed. So he has now targeted the doctors to prescribe generic medicines. Every doctor wants his/her patients to recover soon so they prescribe the best medicines for them. Medicines for Cancer are expensive because of certain reasons, if cancer or tuberculosis patients use cheaper medicines it will not benefit them. Keeping the recovery of the patient in mind we prescribe branded medicines. If Modi is really worried about the poor people let him give them subsidy on medicines and also decrease the price of day-to-day commodities, gas fuel etc”.

Former Mayor Sashidhar Hedge, Mayor Kavitha Sanil, Corporator Praveenchandra Alva and others were also present.
