Explosive Device in MIA, Police search for Suspect Aditya Rao in Manipal?

Mangaluru: “The Police are searching for the accused in connection to placing the explosive device in Mangaluru International Airport on January 20. Three teams have been formed to nab the accused. We have already questioned many suspects and houses have also been searched. All the necessary information about some of the suspects have been collected”, said the police commissioner Dr Harsha in a video statement here on January 21.

Dr Harsha said, “After the police department released the photographs of the accused and the autorickshaw, people have started to share information about the suspect. We have also collected the information about the calls received by the airport authorities. On January 20, the airport authorities received a telephone call and we are comparing the voice of the previous callers and yesterday’s call. The investigation team is collecting all the necessary information. The auto driver has been questioned”.

“Already the sample of the defused explosive has been sent to FSL and once we get the report from the experts we will get to know the type of explosive”, said Dr Harsha.

According to unconfirmed reports, the suspected person has been identified as Aditya Rao (40) from Manipal. Police teams have already collected all the information about the suspect. In 2018, suspect Aditya Rao had threatened to blast the Kempegowda International Airport and Sangolli Rayanna Railway station in Majestic. Later he was arrested in August 2018 for making three calls threatening to blast the airport and railway station in Bengaluru.

Aditya Rao is an Engineering and MBA graduate. He had applied for a job as security personnel at the Kempegowda International Airport. It is suspected that being disappointed and upset at not getting the job, he had made the calls and threatened the airport authorities.

The police had visited Manipal and had searched for Aditya Rao at his residence in Mannapalla without success, there was no one in the house. Aditya Rao’s mother has died some years back and his father is residing in Mangaluru. Search is on for Aditya.
