Help Me! ‘Human Computer’ Siddu Loute Aspires to be an IAS Officer

“I was completely visually impaired from birth. I was neglected from my family, as they saw me as a burden to society. They felt I won’t be of any use to anyone. I was thrown out of my house and put in a government hostel in Hubbali in Karnataka. While in school they only used me as a trophy student. They enrolled me to talent contests and award ceremonies. But the moment the guests would leave, they would ill-treat me. They even ate up all the prize money I had earned. The school earned at least Rs 15–20 lakh on my account, but did not give me a rupee. There is a difference between Shakuntala Devi and me. She had to write down on a board while calculating, whereas I can do it orally. I even have 45,000 phone numbers in my memory. In fact, if you give me any date in the next five years, I will tell you which day it will come on. Help me make my dreams come true- I need financial support to complete my studies to be an IAS Officer”- “Human Computer” Siddu S Loute

Mangaluru: He can tell you the exact day, if you tell him the date and year; He can memorize more than 45,000 mobile and telephone numbers; He can also memorize multiplication tables up to 99 crore, and he proved it to the media persons by answering the right answers to the queries posed to him. And this 31-year-old man is Siddu S Loute, also named as “Human Computer” addressed the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club.

Young Siddu Loute’s claim to fame is that he’s a human computer with a phenomenal memory. He has been awarded and honoured many times over for such remarkable feats as memorising arithmetic tables up to 99 crore and for his ability to recall more than 45,000 telephone numbers. His ultimate aim is to break all records set by the late mathematical wiz Shakuntala Devi, famously called “the human computer”. But the list of his accomplishments and ambitions does not stop there. He is currently doing his LLB from MS Ramaiah College, Bengaluru, and aspires to be an IAS officer. He also anchors a live quiz programme on a local TV channel. What, however, makes Loute’s achievements and his versatility, even more incredible is that they are those of a man who is visually impaired.

Born in a poor family, Loute faced utter parental neglect on account of his congenital blindness. Leaving home when he was only five, his neighbours helped him join a government school in Hubli city. Siddu who is all for enabling the needy is such a great source of inspiration for the physically challenged, especially students among them. Hailing from Kakamari village of Athani taluk in Belgaum, Karnataka, Loute, who now lives in Bengaluru, has had a life of struggle. But he never let go of his dreams. His school teachers were indifferent towards him, he spent his time in class in silence but soon caught everyone’s attention for his ability to recite arithmetic tables of up to 52 lakh when he was just a second standard student.

The success story of visually impaired Siddu S. Loute is an example of how a person can turn adversity into an advantage through sheer determination. “Even in school I had no friends, and since I was a dull student, teachers did not like me and neglected me. But things changed when I decided to emulate Shambulinga, another visually challenged student studying in the 7th standard. Shambulinga was a favourite of teachers as he was good in mathematics. I too decided to become good in mathematics and grab the attention of teachers. With determination, I started memorising multiplication tables and when I was studying in the second class, I had memorised multiplication tables up to 56 lakhs,” said Siddu.

This was the beginning of his success story. Loute completed his pre-university course under difficult circumstances. Currently pursuing his five-year LLM course at the M.S. Ramaiah college, Bengaluru, claims to have memorised multiplication tables up to 99 crore. He said that he has memorised more than 45,000 mobile and telephone numbers. Siddu proposes to bring out a calendar for the next 5 lakh years and said that it would be made available on his website, www.humancomputersiddu.com.

Though humiliated by his teachers when he tried to learn basic computer skills in class 8, and for his poor English, Siddu remained undeterred. “I taught myself to write basic English in 15 days,” he said. Today, Siddu is striving to ensure that others with the same disability do not face the obstacles he had to encounter as a school student. He has brought out a CD titled, ‘Adhunika Aryabhata’, meant to help boost the confidence of visually-impaired individuals.

Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Siddu said, “I had strong desire to learn right from my childhood. I started by learning the mathematical tables and even in my 2 nd standard, I had mastered up to 56 lakh tables. Now I have the ability to do multiplication of any 2 numbers ranging up to several crores and can give the results within seconds. I have surprised Sakuntala Devi, who is known as a human computer, with my ability to do mathematical computations with only mental calculations. I have exceptional ability in doing mathematical calculations. I have ideas to publish a calendar for the next 5 lakh years. I can memorise more than 45,000 telephone numbers. I can tell the day of the week given the date of the year within a few seconds. I have already successfully demonstrated my skills to Limca Book of Records. I have got skills in astrology and numerology also.”

Siddu says it best: “In this world, everyone is endowed with a unique talent. But to become a great man, one should have the capacity to identify one’s hidden talent. My aim now is to join the Indian Administrative Service. My dream is to become an IAS officer. I hope to get an opportunity to build a better society and hence country that way. Help me financially to pursue my career and achieve my dream come true. Thanking you in anticipation”.
