Jonas & 2 Others Remanded in 14-Day Judicial Custody in Shreemathi Shetty Murder Case

Mangaluru : It was one of the gruesome and horrific murder in the history of Mangaluru, or probably in the state- where a young lady Shreemathi Shetty, aged 35, was murdered, and then her body was chopped into pieces, stuffed in gunny bags and thrown at three different spots in the City. The three persons accused in this brutal murder case have been remanded in 14 days judicial custody. The main accused in this case, Jonas Julin Samson (36), along with his wife Victoria Mathias (46), both residing in Sooterpet, near Valencia; and Raju (35) a resident of Kavoor Marakada, who had obliged Jonas to park his two-wheeler that was used for disposing of the body parts of Shreemathi Shetty, and who was also in possession of Shreemathi’s jewellery ( all three being arrested on May 15), were produced in the presence of the judge on Saturday May 18 night, where they were remanded to judicial custody till May 29.

After Jonas was discharged from the hospital on Saturday 18 May, after he was admitted for injuries when he tried to commit suicide, when cops had come to arrest him on 15 May, he was taken to the various spots where he had thrown the body pieces of Ms Shetty, under tight security by the cops, during which he revealed the full details of his murder act, showing no remorse about the the murder he committed. The details reveal that Jonas who was running a fast food shack had borrowed Rs 1 lakh through Chit Fund business managed by Shreemathi. Having returned Rs 40,000, the balance of Rs 60,000 was agreed to be paid in Rs 300 daily, but Jonas skipped many such payments. Having fed up with this, Shreemathi in her scooter went to his Jonas house in Sooterpet on 11 May, and demanded her balance amount.

While Shreemathi was demanding her money back in a rude manner, in a fit of rage Jonas hit Shreemathi twice, after which she collapsed and died. Since Jonas didn’t had a 4-wheeler to dispose of the entire body, he decided to chop her body in pieces using three sharp weapons, including a machete, and then stuff it in gunny bags, and dump it at three spots, using Shreemathi’s scooter. Shreemathi Shetty having divorced thrice, was suppose to get married for the fourth time on Sunday, 19 May, however she faced a brutal death in the hands of Jonas. In the meantime, the police are still sleuthing into this case further to find out if more persons have been involved in this brutal murder.
