Mangaluru: Goods Auto-Rickshaw Collides with Judge’s Car; Driver Dies
Mangaluru: A 69-year-old goods auto-rickshaw driver died after sustaining critical injuries when the vehicle he was driving collided with a car carrying a judge of the 1st Additional District Court in Mangaluru.
The accident occurred at around 10 a.m. in Karangalpady. According to the police, the goods auto-rickshaw was travelling from Court Road when it collided with the car, which was turning from the Karangalpady Main Road towards Court Road. Judge Vinay was reportedly driving the car himself.
The impact caused the goods auto-rickshaw to overturn. Its driver, identified as Chandra K., 69, was thrown onto the road and sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries around noon.
Judge Vinay also sustained injuries to his hand in the accident.
As the goods auto-rickshaw overturned, it hit a nearby scooter. The scooter rider, identified as Plevier, 51, fell onto the road and sustained injuries.
Based on a complaint filed by Judge Vinay, the Kadri Traffic Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Chandra, a resident of Mogral in Kasaragod district, was driving the goods auto-rickshaw belonging to Kalpana Sweets in Mangaluru.
The accident was captured on CCTV. The footage reportedly shows the goods auto-rickshaw travelling straight towards the car before colliding with it.
Police said the driver may have experienced blurred vision or some other medical or physical problem, which could have caused him to lose control of the vehicle. They also noted that the front of the auto-rickshaw might not have been so badly damaged had the driver applied the brakes even slightly before the collision.
