Mangaluru Police Intensify Crackdown on Narcotics Trade, Seize Contraband Worth Millions
Mangaluru The Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate has significantly intensified its efforts to combat the narcotics trade within its jurisdiction, resulting in the registration of 40 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act this year. Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy announced that 67 individuals have been apprehended in connection with the sale and transportation of narcotics.
The crackdown has led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of illicit substances, valued at ₹1,36,35,650. The seized narcotics include 145 kg 324 grams of ganja, 319.976 grams of MDMA, 13 grams of MDMA pills, 756.52 grams of Hydro weed ganja, and various other narcotics.
Commissioner Reddy emphasized the Police Department’s unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the city. “We are dedicated to creating a drug-free environment for the citizens of Mangaluru,” he stated. “Our officers are working tirelessly to identify and apprehend those involved in the narcotics trade, from suppliers to consumers.”
In a separate operation on January 15, the Mangaluru Police destroyed narcotics worth ₹6,80,86,558. The destroyed substances included 335 kg 460 grams of ganja, 7 kg 640 grams of MDMA, and 16 grams of cocaine. This action underscored the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the issue of drug control.
Further demonstrating their commitment to eliminating narcotics, on Thursday, authorities burned and destroyed 21 kg 320 grams of ganja and 60 grams of MDMA, which had been seized in connection with 23 cases across nine police stations within the city limits.
The Mangaluru City Police are conducting continuous special operations to prevent the sale, transportation, and consumption of narcotics. This year, 335 cases have been registered against 376 individuals for narcotics consumption. These figures underscore the pervasiveness of the drug problem and the urgent need for sustained enforcement efforts.
The Police Commissionerate has urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing information about any suspected narcotics-related activities. “Community involvement is crucial in our fight against drugs,” Commissioner Reddy said. “We encourage residents to report any suspicious behavior to the police.”
The Mangaluru City Police have reiterated their resolve to continue their relentless pursuit of those involved in the narcotics trade and to take all necessary measures to safeguard the community from the harmful effects of drug abuse.
