Michael D’Souza Urges Rachana to Share Expertise with Next Gen at Rachana ‘Amchi Connect’ Members Meet

Mangaluru: The Rachana Chamber of Commerce and Industry convened its Members Meet, “Amchi Connect,” on June 29th at St. Sebastian Platinum Jubilee Hall, Bendore, focusing on revitalizing the organization and fostering youth entrepreneurship within the Konkani community.

Rachana President John Monteiro initiated the program by highlighting the organization’s founding vision of supporting entrepreneurs.  “This meet is an opportunity for members to connect with other members,” Monteiro stated, urging a collective effort to revitalize Rachana’s role in the current economic landscape.

Founder member and former MLA J R Lobo delivered a passionate address, reflecting on the initial aspirations of transforming the Konkani community. While acknowledging progress, he emphasized the community’s continued economic challenges and drew comparisons with the economic strength of the Bunts and Muslim communities. Lobo underscored the concerning trend of youth emigration after completing their education, advocating for strategies to encourage them to establish businesses locally. He stressed the importance of guiding youth in areas such as banking, financing, and marketing. “While we are distributing awards, we aren’t focusing enough on guiding our youth into the mainstream,” Lobo stated. “They need support, including guidance in banking and financing as they start businesses, as well as marketing expertise.”

He called for Rachana to motivate young entrepreneurs, support existing investors, and leverage its global network effectively. Lobo further emphasized the necessity of engaging local parishes and networking with other dioceses and organizations to achieve collective success.

Entrepreneur Michael D’Souza reinforced Lobo’s sentiments, emphasizing the reluctance of youth to embark on entrepreneurial ventures. D’Souza advocated for Rachana to establish a dedicated mentorship team accessible to young individuals, addressing a perceived lack of reliance on the organization for guidance. “If Rachana provides mentorship, we can encourage more youth to engage in entrepreneurship,” D’Souza asserted. He also proposed the creation of a business crisis management framework to support individuals facing difficulties, emphasizing confidentiality and alternatives to solely financial assistance. D’Souza concluded by stressing the importance of a conscious annual membership drive.

Former Presidents Marcel Monteiro and Gilbert D’Souza also contributed their insights during the meeting. A Q&A session provided members with an opportunity to address questions and concerns.

Eulalia served as the program convenor, while Secretary Vijay Lobo delivered the vote of thanks. The event concluded with a monsoon dinner. The “Amchi Connect” meeting served as a platform for Rachana members to strategize on revitalizing the organization and empowering the next generation of Konkani entrepreneurs through mentorship and comprehensive support systems.
