Semi-Nude Protesters including Kavya’s mother Arrested during Protest
Mangaluru: The police arrested protesters including Kavya’s mother when the protesters attempted to march semi-nude at the A B Shetty circle here on September 23.
The semi-nude protest was organized by Justice for Kavya Horata Samiti led by Advocate Dinakar Shetty.
The protest march began from Hampankatta signal, the police warned the protesters not to march on the streets semi-nude. But when the protesters reached A B Shetty circle some of them removed their shirts. The police then arrested the semi-nude protesters including Kavya’s mother Baby. Kavya’s mother Baby tried to stop Police Inspector of Pandeshwar Station Belliappa from arresting them.
Later the protesters agitated in front of the DC office. Addressing the protesters Convenor of the Justice for Kavya Horata Samiti Dinakar Shetty said, “We thought of calling for a bandh on September 16 for not getting justice for Kavya. But the police said that because of Mangaluru Chalo permission to such programmes has been denied. So we had to drop the bandh. Sixteen days ago we have given in writing to the police officials about holding the semi-nude protest on September 23, but today the police did not allow us to hold the semi-nude protest. If they feel ashamed to see our semi-nude body let they give justice for Kavya. We are not against the investigations but we demand the authorities to reveal the post-mortem report.”
Dinaker further said, “When the Home Minister visited Mangaluru on September 20, we were waiting for two hours to hand over a memorandum. When our turn came and we met the Home minister within 2 minutes the Home minister received the memorandum and we were sent out. We demand that the case be handed over to the COD and Rs 25 lakh compensation be given to Kavya’s family.”
Members of the Justice for Kavya Horata Samiti Raghuveer Suterpete, Nirmal Kumar, Robert Rosario, Janardhan, Harish Amtady, Nagesh and others were also present.
