Seven Students Injured in School Bus Collision on NH-66

Mangaluru: Seven students sustained minor injuries this morning after a canter lorry collided with a school bus on National Highway 66 near Kapikadu. The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 AM on Thursday, prompting an immediate response from local authorities.

The school bus, operated by Sharada Niketan Public School & College, was picking up students along its route towards Talapady when it was struck from behind by a fish transport canter. The canter, en route from Goa to Kerala, was carrying a consignment of fish at the time of the accident.

Initial investigations suggest that the Canter driver, identified as Sanjeeva from Kundapur, may have been operating the vehicle while experiencing drowsiness, potentially contributing to the collision. Authorities are currently investigating the matter.

Of the 24 students aboard the bus, four boys and three girls sustained minor injuries as a result of the impact. Medical assistance was promptly provided to the injured students. The majority were treated at Netaji Hospital, while one student with a leg injury was admitted to K. S. Hegde Hospital for more comprehensive care.

Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine the precise cause. Fortunately, a more significant tragedy was averted.
