New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS) Ram Gopal Varma attempted it with “Aag” in 2007 and failed. A remake of the 1975 Bollywood classic “Sholay” is generally a bad idea, according to actor Akshay Kumar, who feels he would never be able to reprise any character from the Ramesh Sippy directorial.

“Sholay”, which stars Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra and Hema Malini, is turning 40 on this Independence Day.

At a press conference here to promote the forthcoming film “Brothers”, Akshay, who was accompanied by actors Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez, was asked if he would be a part of a “Sholay” remake.

He said: “’Sholay’ cannot be remade. It would be injustice, so don’t even think about it. And if I am asked to play a role in the remake, it’s impossible. The way it has been made, it would be injustice to portray (the characters) the same way.”

Even Sidharth said: “I love the star cast, the scenes… it is a film which has lived for 40 years and even when we watch it today, we thoroughly enjoy it.”

Meanwhile, the actors are geared up for “Brothers”, the official Bollywood remake of the 2011 Hollywood film “Warrior”. Directed by Karan Malhotra, the movie, which releases on Friday, also features actors Shefali Shah and Jackie Shroff in supporting roles.
