Mangaluru: In association with the International Womens’ Day, the department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing, Father Muller College of Nursing organized a seminar on “Safe Motherhood – Make It Happen” on March 7, at the Decennial Memorial Hall, FMCI.
The programme began with an invocation. Dr Olinda Pereira, Director of the Vishwas Trust, was the Chief Guest. Fr Patrick Rodrigues, Director FMCI, presided over the function. Sr Winnifred D’Souza (Principal, FMCON), Savitha Pramilda Cutinho (Professor, HOD of OBG Nursing) and Sindhu Sebastian (the organizing secretary of the seminar) were the other dignitaries.
Dr Olinda Pereira was falicitated for all her service to the community.
The scientific session began at 10 am. The first session on ‘Pregnancy Induced Hypertension’ was deliberated by Dr Naveenchandra R Nayak, Associate Professor, A J Institute of Medical Sciences followed by a session on ‘Gestational Diabetes Mellitus’ by Dr Sujaya V Rao, Professor FMMCH. Dr Sudeep K explained about the management of GDM in the third session. Pramila D’Souza and Shoba P Xavier explained about the nursing management of PIH and GDM respectively in the last session of the seminar. Alphilin Jose, Lecturer, read the seminar report.
Around 260 delegates from 8 different nursing colleges and hospitals benefited from the seminar.
A panel discussion on ‘Achievement of Millennium Development Goal 4 and 5 – 2015’ was conducted in the afternoon session. Precilla D’Silva, Lecturer FMCON, moderated the panel with the panelists. The panelists were Erbatemon, Sonimol, Belma, Jasmine, Jasline and Edna.
