Udupi Administration Emphasizes Precaution in Padur Crude Oil Storage Project’s Second Phase
Udupi: Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T.K. has mandated stringent precautionary measures during the execution of the second phase of the crude oil storage project in Padur village, Majoor Gram Panchayat jurisdiction. The directive aims to minimize disruption and potential adverse effects on local residents.

The Deputy Commissioner issued these instructions while chairing a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office auditorium at Rajathadri, Manipal. The meeting convened to discuss the progression of the critical infrastructure project.
Swaroopa T.K. acknowledged that land acquisition for the crude oil storage facility’s expansion had been completed, but noted reports of outstanding compensation payments to some landowners. She instructed officials from the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) to expedite the disbursement of these payments to all landowners who contributed land to the project.
A key preventative measure outlined by the Deputy Commissioner is comprehensive video documentation of residences in the vicinity of the construction site before the commencement of the second phase. This measure intends to provide a clear record of the pre-existing condition of properties, mitigating potential disputes regarding construction-related damages. Furthermore, Swaroopa T.K. stressed the need for extreme caution during rock blasting activities to prevent any damage to surrounding structures.
Addressing concerns regarding land acquisition compensation, the Deputy Commissioner tasked local revenue, survey, and KIADB officials with reviewing and resolving any ambiguities related to the verification of legitimate landowners. She further underscored the importance of safeguarding heritage and traditional sites throughout the project’s execution.
MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty, present at the meeting, raised concerns regarding the potential impact of rock blasting on the quality and safety of local well water, emphasizing the risk of contamination. He urged authorities to prioritize the provision of safe drinking water to the community. Shetty also advocated for prioritizing local residents in project employment opportunities and the construction of separate residential facilities for migrant workers. He additionally stressed the necessity of managing project-related vehicular traffic to ensure public safety and minimize inconvenience.
Local elected officials and community leaders attending the meeting voiced concerns based on their experiences during the project’s initial phase. They implored authorities to proactively address potential issues and ensure that previous problems are not repeated during the second phase.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Abeer Gadyal, the President of Majoor Gram Panchayat, the Tahsildar, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer, KIADB officials, and other relevant stakeholders were present at the meeting. The collaborative effort underscores the commitment to a responsible and community-conscious approach to the crude oil storage project’s development.
