Udupi: Akki Muhurtha was held for the ‘Paryaya Mohotsava’ of Sri Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Math in the midst of a chant of hymns and rituals at Pejwar Math here on Wednesday, 11 February.
The ceremony is the second in line of the four rituals that are performed by the seer before ascending the Paryaya throne. ‘Bale Muhurtha’, ‘Akki Muhurtha’, ‘Kattige Muhurtha’ and ‘Bhattha Muhurtha’ are the four rituals.
Sri Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Math will ascend the Paryaya Peetha, also known as the Sarvajna Peetha, on January 18, 2016 at the 800-year-old Sri Krishna Math and Temple established by Sri Madhwacharya, the exponent of Dwaita philosophy.
Sri Vishwesha Tirtha will ascend the Paryaya Peetha for the fifth time. No seer of the eight maths or Ashta Maths of Udupi has ascended the Paryaya Peetha more than four times since the biennial Paryaya system came into existence in 1522.
The seer performed rituals and offered prayers to the ‘Pattada Devaru’. After performing poojas, he visited ‘Chandramoyuleshwara’ and ‘Anantheshwara’ temples in procession. Following which, he visited Sri Krishna temple and offered prayers to Lord Krishna. He was brought in a procession to ‘Subhramanya gudi’ and ‘Brindavana’ to offer poojas.
Rituals were performed to ‘Akki Mudi’, that was kept in the golden chariot, marking the ceremony of ‘Akki Muhurtha’. ‘Mahamangalastike’, ‘Dhanyalaxmi Pooja’ and ‘Navagraha Pooja’ was performed on the occasion. Seers of ‘Ashta math’ were offered a ritualistic ceremonial welcome at Pejawar Math. Seers performed ‘Malika Mangalarathi’ to Sri Vishweshatheertha Swamiji on the occasion
Paryaya Kaniyoor Math seer Vidyavallaba Thritha Swami, Palimar Math seer Vidhadeesha Thirtha, Sode Math seer, Shri Vishwavallbaha Thitha Swamiji, Shiroor Math Seer Sri Laxmivaratheertha Swamii, Krishnapura Math seer, Admar Math Junior seer and others were present to witness the Akki Muhurtha and bless the occasion.
