Udupi: Preparation for the inauguration of Mount Rosary Church, Devotees offer Hore–Kanike

Udupi: The head-load gift offerings or Hore Kanike from the traditionally-dressed parishioners of Mount Rosary Church Santhekatte Kallianpur took place to strengthen the bonding and relationship of the local community on 5 January 2015 in preparation of the opening ceremony of the new church.

People of all communities gathered together in front of the Karnataka Bank Ambagilu. The parishioners from 13 wards dressed traditionally to symbolize the original tradition of the community, gathered ward by ward with their wide variety of gifts.

The Hore Kanike procession was symbolically inaugurated by Fr Denis D’Sa PRO of Udupi Diocese, Anantha S Bhat Pradhana Archaka Laxmi Venkatesh Temple Puttur and P Abubakar, president Jamia Masjid Nejar by releasing tri-colour balloons. P Yuvaraj president of Udupi Municipality flagged-off the procession.

The procession passed through Karnataka Bank – Ambagilu Junction – LVT Temple – Ashirvad – Santhekatte Junction and culminated at the Mount Rosary Church Santhekatte premises. The procession was accompanied by various tableaux, Chande, Music, Brass Band, Huli Vesha and various folk troupes.

The head-load gift offerings with a variety of gifts from the parishioners of the 13 wards along with the gifts from other local religious community members residing in the neighborhood were brought to the Church in a procession. Neighbouring temples and parishes also joined in the Hore Kanike procession. The occasion and the ceremony reflected and celebrated the unity amongst all the community members of Sathekatte and the neighbouring areas. The head-load gift offerings were then ceremoniously accepted by Fr Philip Neri Aranha parish priest of Mount Rosary Church.

Fr John Noronha, Fr Fredrick D’Souza, Fr Roque D’Sa, Fr Baptist Menezes, Fr Naveen D’Souza, Fr Johnson, Dn Royson, Jerry Vincent Dias, Richard Dias, Joseph Rebello and others were present.
