Ugandan National Apprehended in Connection with Drug Trafficking Operation Between Bengaluru and Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Authorities in Mangaluru have announced the arrest of a Ugandan woman suspected of orchestrating a sophisticated drug trafficking operation that spanned from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. The suspect, identified as Jaliya Zhalwango, was taken into custody by the Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police in the Jigani area, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Zhalwango is accused of supplying significant quantities of MDMA, a synthetic psychoactive drug, to a network of six peddlers operating within Mangaluru. These individuals are alleged to have been responsible for the distribution of narcotics to young people in the city.

The arrest occurred following an investigation into the activities of the aforementioned peddlers, who were previously apprehended and are currently in judicial custody. Law enforcement officials believe that Zhalwango served as a primary source of supply for this network.

During the arrest, police seized approximately 4 kilograms of MDMA, with an estimated street value of Rs 4 crore. The accused was presented before a magistrate and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The Police Commissioner has indicated that authorities intend to seek police custody of Zhalwango for further interrogation and to gather additional information related to the drug trafficking operation.

The Mangaluru police department asserts that this arrest represents a significant breakthrough in their efforts to combat drug trafficking within the region. They believe that the apprehension of Zhalwango has effectively dismantled a major drug supply chain that was operating in Mangaluru. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are continuing to pursue leads that may uncover additional individuals involved in the network.
