Veena B.K. and Anusuya Kamath from Roshni Nilaya Awarded Ph.D.

Mangaluru: Two Assistant Professors from the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, have been awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree by Srinivas University, Mangaluru. Veena B.K. and Anusuya Kamath, both faculty members in the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Department (Undergraduate Studies), successfully defended their doctoral theses.

Veena B.K.’s doctoral research, titled “SOCIO-CULTURAL AND ECOLOGICAL SUSTAINABILITY IN RELATION TO MENSTRUAL HYGIENE PRACTICES AMONG ADOLESCENT GIRLS IN DAKSHINA KANNADA DISTRICT”, explored the multifaceted dimensions of menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls in the Dakshina Kannada district, focusing on the interplay between socio-cultural factors, ecological considerations, and sustainable practices. Her research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Laveena Dmello, Professor, Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, Institute of Management and Commerce, Srinivas University. Veena B.K. is the daughter of Sri K. Chandrahasa and Smt. Vimala of Bajal, and the wife of Sri Manoj Kumar of Jalligudde.

Anusuya Kamath’s doctoral thesis, titled “A STUDY ON EMPOWERING ADOLESCENT GIRLS FOR SELF- PROTECTION THROUGH HOLISTIC STRATEGIES TO ENRICH SELF-ESTEEM”, investigated the empowerment of adolescent girls through holistic strategies aimed at enhancing self-esteem and promoting self-protection. The study delved into effective methods for equipping young women with the necessary skills and confidence to navigate challenges and ensure their well-being. Dr. Laveena Dmello, Professor, Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, Institute of Management and Commerce, Srinivas University, served as her guide. Anusuya Kamath is the daughter of the late Padmanabha Kamath and Smt. Shantha P Kamath of Mudarangady, and the wife of Sri Naveen Chandra Shenoy of Belman.

The awarding of these Ph.D. degrees to Veena B.K. and Anusuya Kamath marks a significant achievement for both individuals and reflects the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of social work.
