Don’t expect a movie star to be an advocate for a social change. He would say whatever makes his illiterate base happy. Jallikattu, kambala, kori katta and other forms of animal cruelty need to be banned. Unfortunately, our animal rights groups. media and courts have lost credibility because they are too afraid to talk about one of the biggest form animal abuse in the name of a religious festival celebrated by one specific minority community. Hundreds of thousands of animals are slaughtered as celebration. Our media, court and other groups have utterly failed to address the issue and decided to hide under the desk. Sad!

  • From Eric Coelho on 'It's like Govt. Robbing Peter to Pay Paul'- Lawyer Pais on Mulgar/Mulgeni Issue

I would like to further add to my message to Mulgar’s, using the phrase of Robbing peter to pay paul cannot be applied to Muldar and Mulgenidhar’s issue. Please note that Robbing peter to pay paul refers to taxes and not rent. Muldhar’s were only tax collectors and not owners of mulgenidhar’s property. For your convenience and security and that too out of greed you have shifted the goal posts from Geni in cash or in kind to higher share in mulgenidhar’s property in terms of money. You statement of robbing peter and pay paul is like a sardar jokes – santa and banta. You cannot use the said phrase peter and paul which is connected to taxes of century old where St. Paul church in london had to pay St. Peter’s church in Rome. Why should the mulgenidhar’s pay you money just for being muldar’s which doesn’t exist but you have kept it alive out of greed.

  • From Eric Coelho on 'It's like Govt. Robbing Peter to Pay Paul'- Lawyer Pais on Mulgar/Mulgeni Issue

Now the old phrase – Govt is robbing peter to pay paul. So Mulgar and Mulgenidhar have become peter and paul like we have two 2 people in Singh jokes – Santa and Banta. I think it should be phrased as Govt robbing santa to pay banta. I feel the Mulgar’s have nothing to offer to the govt other than their greed for money. It should be noted that they were mere tax collector on behalf of the british rulers called as Mulgar’s and they had no authority whatsoever on the immovable land property of mulidhar’s. Mulgar’s have no issue with the Act passed the President of India but their issue is the compensation which is meagre or pocket money for them. So we have to say it is nothing but “GREED” that govt is robbing santa to pay banta which is the new phrase.

Don’t compare India with Israel. It is easy to introduce a national language in a small country with homogenous population. India is not Israel. India has diversified population and the country is too large to impose your will on anything especially languages. People will look at their priorities in life, resources they have, and willingness to accept, and beneficial impact of spending their time, energy and resources on new language that may not their priority. Imposing anything on people is a moot idea. First, work hard towards making the country a economic and military power and hope everything follows.

    • From Meera on Sanskrit is for the Nation - HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar

The country is not too large for will to be imposed; in fact, the country is too obtuse to understand that we somehow seem value the language of our colonial masters, our bygone rulers and oppressors, more than we value the language of our ancients. Sanskrit is our own language and what good fortune that it is the mother of all languages of the world! A citizen of India who understands that language must not be used only for person gain and economic competitiveness in the world but must also be used to build and encourage national pride, national honour and national consciousness as a first priority will love and promote Sanskrit will all his heart. Israel might be a small nation, which is right, but the Israelis take a lot of pride in the fact that Hebrew is their own language, the language of their ancients. They don’t give a damn about English like we Indian do! Gone is the India of Tilaks and Bhagat Singhs who valued English so little. Nowadays, the culture slavery to the whites is not just normal but is almost a high fashion and makes up very well for the lack of confidence in their nation and themselves. Kuch karo Javdekar ji, Sanskrit ko wapas lao pure Bharat mein.

Richard Crasta gave the valedectory address. M S Mandanna gave the President’s speech. Fr Rasquinha S J was the Principal then. Fr Vas was the Vice Principal. I remember Ullas Shetty doing cabaret dance to the song Piya Tu ab toh aaja. Bhoota kola was another skit. Apollo 13 was another one with flower pot giving the works on stage. This scared Fr Vas who ran to the stage to put it off. All in all it was great. Dr Ranjan Rao, Sudhakar gave some nice performances as well. Pundikai Ganapayya Bhat entertained with his jokes.

  • From SMR on Demonetization - Modi Responsible for Economic Crisis in the Country - Lobo

Demonetisation: 7 questions Modi must answer right now 1. Will demonetisation eradicate black money from Indian economy? 2. Will digital transaction replace the cash transactions? 3. What preparations were done by the government and RBI before launching this massive currency change move? 4. Then, why we are still facing cash crunch? 5. the high-value ₹1000 rupee notes have been banned and to replace that ₹2000 notes have been introduced, how will this help to stop the black money hoarders? 6. Will government demonetise these new currencies too? 7. Why are rules and measures changing so frequently? Demonetisation is a move that has impacted everyone from farmers to bankers to rural living without easy bank accessibility to urban card swiping population, and it has to be managed properly to make it a success. At present, PM Modi is justifying this move on the basis of public support but testing the patience of people by imposing an ill-prepared plan is a bad idea in a democracy. Why don’t BJP party funding is still not going ‘digital’? Jai Hind

Oh my God! I am paying my Utility Bills,Property Taxes to this Company. Mangalore one is always in the news regarding mismanagement. But State Government is not taking any action on this outfit. There must be inside connection with Elected Officials. It is time for Anti Crime Dept. to take a peek at this company and find out illegal activities, before We the public loose the money we paid as Taxes and Utility Payment.

Not going to support inflammatory words of this MP. However, there is no doubt that both ruling Congress and media are notorious for protecting bad behavior by a certain minority group. Politicians want the ‘vote bank’ and media is too afraid to say a word about this group!!!! From mangaluru vimaana nildaana, illegal cow trafficking to other criminal activities, one group has more involvement than any other religious groups. I wish we had some real journalists and real political leaders to confront this reality.

  • From Joe D'Souza on When law keepers break the law!

Mr Nayak, many Citizens know this problem but no one wants to talk in front. They only talk in the back. It is against the Law to blow horn near a Hospital. But it is okay to blow Fire Crackers louder than Horn close to Hospital. I am sure, Heart Patient in ICU jumps up when such loud firecracker blows up close to Hospital This happens all the time near City Hospital, Tejaswini Hospital and Vijaya Clinic Hospital. Many times it happens at 5:30 am and it wakes me up though I live far. Serious Condition Patients in Indiana Hospital and Omega Hospital suffer because of large Loud Speakers nearby. God said, “love your neighbour”. I do not think God requested to blow up the loudest firecracker nor asked to use Loudspeakers or the very big bells. He might curse those people for their behavior. I feel sorry and very sad for the People who LIVE next to Wedding Halls and Open Grounds where Loudspeakers are blasting and disturbing the Citizens. Noise Level Limit is there for Vehicle Horns but not for Blasting Loudspeakers. Funny Law of Land.

    • From Melroy on When law keepers break the law!

Sir, Please make written complaints about this to PS and CoP and keep records. We have to slowly slowly bear down on the police to implement the noise rules. Currently noise hazards are not at all understood by the police. They need to undergo training and sensitization.Public also need sensitization. Kerala has just last month introduced a lesson on the effects of noise polln. in 8th curriculum. Hospitals areas are silence zones. Your concern of affecting patients is very very real. We also have to get the authorities to mark silence zones. Police need to have dB meters to monitor dB levels. We have to get the Environment board to measure the dB levels of fire crackers sold in Mangalore and to confiscate those that exceed the allowed dB levels.Actually even the dB levels mentioned in the rules are too high and could rupture ear drums etc. At present loudspeakers permissions issued by the police do not mention anything about the noise polln. rules, they are still based on the Police Act.

  • From Melroy on When law keepers break the law!

Neither CM nor DM nor CoP has any authority to issue permission to use LS’ after 10pm. Fine for violation is upto 1 lakh and prison term. Offence is cognisable hence FIR should be filed. Please download decibel meter app from Google (unfortunately available for Android or iPhone only). Alongwith video recording of the event also show dB levels(of course it will not be accepted by court but it can be very indicative of the violation). There is nothing like only 1 day and and only 1 time, we cannot have only 1 day and only 1 time celebrations by 1.3billion people when we have only 365 days in a year. The same people when they go to Saudi,USA,UK etc.(see news reports) have the same parties inside 4 walls without disturbing their neighbours but when in India it is a free for all. Anything goes! Please do make a written complaint. We shall overcome someday! For more info. and courts orders etc please see below link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B0kMWg9IMa-abzBZQk5qM0RzRnM

Wow! That’s a really a great gesture from the Baharain FM to come all the way from his country to meet his old nannies in Mangalore & Kerala. A nanny is an important part of an Arab family. They spend a lot of time and hard work doing things for the whole family. Young children need love, care and attention which they generously get from their nannies. The kids who are looked after and groomed by nannies are more attached to them than their own mothers. The sacrifice a nanny makes is priceless. She leaves her children back home and goes to a distant country in order to look after someone’s children so that her children will have a better future. I just wish all the nannies to get household like Carmine Mathias got to work for.

Mr Alfie, you have missed the 4 humps near Kadri Kambla Junction within 1000 meters. They do not have painted stripes on them. When told MCC about it,the answer was “No Money”. When I told the Corporator of the area,His answer was”this is not my problem but Police ACP Udaya Nayak, because He put it” . This was done to protect the Water Tankers to park on road side and load water and the water filling guys to stand on road talking on Mobile Phones. There is no money to pocket by just painting the hump, but there is money to pocket by installing the Humps. Someones life is in risk. How many lives are lost due to bike accidents. It is time to take action by bikers against MCC to save their life as well as their friends too. Parents lost their only Child due to humps.

It is about time that Police Dept. started some action on these fish trucks. Mr Yogish Shetty tried His best to stop this menace. Three days back,I was traveling from Koondapur to Mangalore. I have followed or passed 17 fish trucks. Except two rest of the trucks were releasing water on road. One truck was stopped on NH66 in front of barricade in construction area. A person got out of truck and opened the valve to let water out. I wanted to take His truck number, but there was no plate in rear of truck. There was number on side but it was scratched and could not read. When there is violation, that vehicle should be removed from road, even if the fish spoils. Then only these drivers will get the message. Or His Drivers Licence should be suspended for 3 months. I feel sorry for people who ride the bikes on NH66 everyday to work. Mr Alfie, thanks to you. Rules are only on books. People should help Trafic Police to track these violators, when Mangalorean.com publishes this sever problem faced by Public. Dear Violet, thank you for enlighting a subject to grave and so human. But believe me, although you show so much concern for all the deficiencies in Karnataka, and in particular, Mangalore, nothing is ever going to change – as the mindset of most Indians is: I, Me, and Myself, and the Administration of all authorities, be it Police, Municipality, Public Works, or MESCOM – work on the same principles – Shine only whilst the CM or an MP or even a MLA is on the prowl or a visit. One can find so many old citizens, sick and discarded, and drunkards on the streets of Udupi and Mangalore, irrespective from which state they migrate from. But who cares? The civil law is entrusted to the Police Dept., and I believe it is solely their duty to check on old citizens, sick and discarded, and drunkards found on the streets, and take action. But most of the people who work for the Police Dept. have also the same attitude: Uniform, Power, and Money – for doing nothing – or for giving security only for the CM, MP, or MLA.

Me and my husband are avid horse riders. No, the maintenance of a horse is not limited to ‘food cost’. Who will take up the responsibility to ensure the horses are not overworked? If he wants to reduce pollution, then he needs to walk. Horses are meant to be free and not dragged amidst heavy traffic and unbearable heat. Their hoofs are not meant for tar or concrete roads. And just because you don’t get a parking ticket it does not mean you can violate rules.

Mr. Manohar Parrikar is simply quoting the PM, Modi – Go Cashless – Go Cashless. Afterall, he can go cashless as both the PM and Mr. Parrikar do not pay for any service! Yes, many a times, people after standing in long queues in the banks and at the ATM have to Go Cashless and return home, because there is no more cash with the banks and ATM. Why can’t they admit that their day to day new claims and policies are just a cover up for their bad decision on hurriedly demonetizing the existing currencies of Rs.500 and Rs.1000.- that were more viable and dispensable than the new Rs.2000.- currency! Moreover, in Udupi and Mangalore – there is constant electricity problem, the power supply being shut off by MESCOM, so frequently, that the Banks’s Servers do not function, and so do the POS machines and ATM machines. Many a times the power supply is shut off for 8 hours at one go by MESCOM, and everything comes to a standstill. Mr. Parrikar should ask the common man on the street if he wants to learn something on availability of cash or electrical supply rather than stating the PM’s line – Go Cashless!

It was a great pleasure to meet the grand old MCEits after several years. Excellent coverage by Mangalorean.com, Thanks Mangalorean.com The meet was much more successful and managed efficiently than I expected. It gave a good opportunity to meet all our old friends after a gap of several years. Sometimes I wonder why all of us could not meet like this in the previous years. Anyway, I hope to meet all our friends every year in the future in the similar grand meets like this. Mr. Shankar Bhat ” JAI HO” for his constant efforts to make this event memorable and successful along with the dedicated core team of 22 members who worked towards organizing this great event.

  • From Keerthy Sunder on MCE, Hassan Alumni celebrate 'Savinenapugalu', the Reminiscence

My first MCE Alumni meet and am glad to have been in the Core organising team from Mumbai. It was indeed a huge learning to be at the center of gathering alumni data from across the globe and putting together the pieces of a puzzle when the puzzle was unravelled on 10.Dec. With a zeal to do everything perfectly, the captain of our Core Committee ship, Shri. Shankara Bhat steered the ship in the course where the heading was known and we had times to meander through rough seas to get here on D-day and due to the concerted efforts put-in by the Sub-groups within the Core committee, each of us gave our best. I thank all the alumni friends who travelled from far and wide to make this occasion special. Without your active participation, this event would never have taken off. It was amazing to Meet, Connect & Engage with alumni from the first batch of MCE i.e., 1965 to as early as our juniormost batch from 2016. An event which was made more memorable for the few who decided to stay back and enjoyed trips to The Elephanta Caves the next day and wound up with a tour de Mumbai on the last day i.e., 12.Dec’16. A special thanks to the MEA Team for their wholehearted support from Hassan and last but not the least, to each member of the Core group, who tirelessly worked towards striving to make this event, better than the best of any other MCE Alumni meets held so far. I hope we have reached close to our objective. I also thank www.mangalorean.com for publishing our event and making it more popular amongst our other alumni who would now be inspired to attend the next meet tentatively to be held in Mangaluru.

150 individuals from across the globe,,,,, but groomed from one school, 3days of “savinenapu”, but every day is memorably great in life…………. If I can illustrate,,,,, MCEits have gone around the world and been there in many corners of the globe much more than so called premier institutions of the country in all vocations. It’s already evident that for those who attended the Mumbai meet, we are already looking at the announcement of next meet’s date in some part of the brain which brings the thought of excitement. Looking forward to seeing more young and experienced in Mangalore…. Sudarshan, I&P

  • From Sudhin Kumar on MCE, Hassan Alumni celebrate 'Savinenapugalu', the Reminiscence

Excellent coverage by Mangalorean.com. The success of this Global meet of MCE Alumni is attributed to the hard work and efforts of 22 member core group with Mr. Kadengodlu Shankar Bhat at the centre stage with his valuable suggestions/guidance and his frequent attacks on the violators of the “unique policy of postings” in the WhatsApp group of MCE Alumni which was dedicated for the Mumbai meet only. It’s also the tireless efforts of Keerthy Sunder who made a wonderful Coordination with all concerned. With the success of this global meet, I believe the future meets of MCE Alumni will be much more easier to Coordinate and Organize as the base work has been done during this meet which was really extremely tough.

“Like in Shahabuddin case…” says report. Really? What’s the point in dragging shahabuddin case into this story? Are people this desperate to attack BJP ? Also, did the author forget the ruling govt in Karnataka? Why is he soft on Congress? My heart goes out to this father seeking justice in his son’s murder case. He deserves nothing but best. However, certain individuals around him pretending to be his supporters are only interested in scoring political points by attacking BJP and RSS. Very sad and unfortunate.

  • From Richard Dsouza on MCC provides a Hawking Place for Street Vendors

Hawking is a menace in India – and it’s the bread and butter of all legal and illegal authorities such as the local mafia, the Municipality, and the Police. Thank God the Mangalore Municipality has finally given heed to people who can earn their daily bread in a civilized manner. However, grouping all the hawkers on to a vacant ground behind the Town Hall on a hurriedly executed interlocking tiles is not a novel idea. What about drainage, a sheltered roof to protect from sun and rain, and pavements for the public. What about garbage disposal, etc. All the amenities must be taken into consideration. Nowadays even a farmer owns a bike and a car – what about car parking for the public. Carry out all the above, and make a PAY AND HAWK ZONE, PAY AND PARK ZONE – in this manner the Municipality will generate income to maintain the place as required, because most Municipal facilities are badly or not at all maintained. One example is – the Service Bus Stand in Mangalore – it is in a pathetic state – Suggest our authorities to take a walk and look around.

I love how these self-declared champions of ‘human rights’ are very good at hurling cheap shots at Brahmana people by bringing veg-nonveg reference. Try to make them one statement on notorious human rights abuse and violation done by one specific community and see how quickly they run and hide under their desks!! What a country!!! This is exactly why liberal and secular groups have lost all respect and credibility. Human rights is an important topic and one has to have intellectual honesty before preaching others on this topic. Oh well…

  • From George Stanley on Malnad College of Engineering , Hassan Alumni Reminiscence Mumbai meet 2016

I am a MCE alumni from 1991 the year of my completion. I speak for those that get compelled to attend to classes conducted by faculty members that hold attendance as a tool to reprimand, rather a teacher should attract students to his classroom. We all know this not be the case. Moreover attendance should not be the means to inviting students to a class room but the content of educational content should be the cause! What becomes questionable is the quality of the faculty which is in my view a sad state of affairs. I may have been successful if I were not to be from MCE!! This comment may invite a lot of critics. I am speaking from my own experience and I have not to care for none. The attitude as it existed during my days was one based on vengeance and not based on fact of situation for the simple reason, revenge is a means to finding a solution. I am not feeling any pleasure to express what I have thus conveyed. In general people wish to maintain decorum but that is something that did not come from the faculty in terms of an enabling effect. I wish to know…if as a teacher do you hold only the authority to penalize? I wish to differ…as a teacher I wish to be an enabler. I wind here by saying that people who who have discontinued have excelled in life.. sometimes I feel if what I have gone through would have denied me the degree then perhaps another Steve Jobs could have been in the making. Perhaps the world has lost one. Cheers. George Stanley

  • From Joe D'Souza on Is it a Foot Path or a Death Trap?- Not Smart!

Mr Alfie, Corrupt Corporators + Corrupt Engineers + Corrupt Contractors + Banner Politicians = Smart City The picture shows only one spot and you are missing a thousand others. Look at the footpath near PVS Building and Kodialbail Circle where a Senior Citizen fell into the gutter in front of Me and the Traffic Police. I called 24 hour Emergency Line. Weeks passed and the hole is still open. Good one to notice in front of City Hospital and Govt. Clinic where the footpath ends into a 8 ft. deep hole. As per a Clinic employee, a person fell in it but survived the death call. Two years back I got AAP Party members to notice this and they did whatever they can, but stupid Engineer of the MCC did not care a damn. The hole is still open and waiting for a death. Look at the deep hole in Parking Lot of KUDCEMP Building near PET HUT Store. My car fell into that hole 2 days back and was lifted up by helpful Youngsters. Local banner Corporator could not see this even though His office is in that building. Pet Hut Employee told me along with another Person that few vehicles have fallen into that hole. This is nothing but waiting for Corruption to fill the Pocket.

There are some unscrupulous staff in the banks whose actions create hardship to many a common persons. Such staff need punishments comparable with black money hoarders.

Wineries in South India will bring new awakening in Mangalore about the potential benefits to the Society as well as the Economy. Wines production in different tastes and qualities will bring better health environment amongst people. Even the Doctors in America highly recommend that a glass of red wine once or twice a week is good for the heart. Wine brings glamour to the occasion – whether it is occasion to celebrate or to mourn. Wineries have a great deal to depend on the consistent weather. We have more than twelve wineries in and around Texas where the owners have created their own tasting laboratories and weekly “wine and cheese” gatherings. Many retired folks in Texas have resorted their energies towards large and small wineries and the sites have been popular for dining and entertaining. Winery have improved the quality of life and has brought additional thoughts for numerous gatherings that will bring people together and create more social opportunities for people to meet and greet. We are fully supportive of many more wineries to blossom in and around Mangalore.

Thanks Giving has turned into this sweet, happy festival in the minds of millions based on what is being taught in schools. However, the history behind this festival is strongly questioned and opposed by almost every Native American person. Agreed – thanks giving is a happy time for most of the americans except for Native Americans and Turkeys.

  • From Joe D'Souza on Congress Party Buntings Spoiling the Beauty of Kudla?

We have politicians who love publicity through Banners. Everywhere you go, will see the banners with a fake smile on them. Public money and they take the credit for it. Public point out the problems with them and they enjoy it like pouring water on the back of the buffalo. Just a thought: If a Citizen would have torn a banner or stepped on it with anger at the Party office, that Person would have been manhandled by the Party Members, beating that Person to disability. They would have insulted that Person along with family members, claiming that Person insulted their Party by tearing their logo. Now my question is to Congress Party Members: 1. Thousands of People walked on your HAND on the roadside banners thrown around. Now, whose fault is it? 2. Drunk men came out of the Bar near Mallikatta -Lobo Lane corner PISSED on those hands and I had a laugh watching the scene from a fruit stall along with other Citizens standing nearby. 3. I saw Stray Dog doing nature’s call (pooping) on these hands on the pile of banners in front of Mangala Hospital Gate. Dogs really enjoyed the hands for use. Now where is the dignity of the trademark symbol? Clean Hand became dirty hand. The Sad part is that like Mr Alfie has said, these buntings on ropes could strangle innocent Bikers and People crossing the divider. Also, they could fall in front of the moving two wheelers and throw them off the vehicle causing injuries. I called Police Commissioners Office regarding this unsafe problem to vehicles. I have also spoken to Mayor Harinath on Monday morning and he promised to remove them immediately. As usual, nothing happened till Thursday. This is a Smart City where these Political Parties throw the garbage on the road and College Students pick the garbage thrown by Political Parties. What a wonderful scene!!!

I’ve a feeling that there is something more to this story. For those who know how these cooperative societies operated, it should be no surprise. Look at the irony here. Congress party leadership intentionally stays away from ‘swatchcha mangaluru’ campaign. Then, they give non-stop press conferences on ‘smart city’ initiatives writing proposals for the huge grant promised by Govt. Now, they trash the city with all this garbage ignoring all the good work done by Ramakrishna Mission and thousands of other sincere volunteers. Let us all appreciate for what our PM has done to curb the black money. Janana is gone out of his sight and does not even realise how much of guts it takes to get on to this decision. I am not a supporter of any party but would like to highlight that I support good ideas and measures taken by any govt in power. Over the last few decades, congress has been in power, and none of us has any memory of anything good they have done to the country. Always during the congress, our country went down the drains. Even a poor, fishermen and daily wages labour have welcomed the policy of PM. Had our PM given more time, then it would not have been possible to curb the black money as these goons would have surely found a way out to make it legal. We may face difficulties for few days, but let us think about the benefits that a common man would get. Those who are having black money are crying out with the current situation since they have lost all the money. Not to forget, one among the person is also Janana. Rather growing up, he is completely losing the track that the country is getting benefitted by this decision of our PM. With the black money getting wiped out, it would be possible for a common man to make a better living.
