Sam Peter was using the nameplate of Govt. of India NCIB Director and was extorting money from people. From the past 11 years, Sam Peter is wanted in several cases and the CBI and Interpol had issued a red corner notice. On August 16, Sam Peter along with his team was planning to kidnap a man in Mangaluru to extort money. Receiving the information, the police arrested Sam Peter and seven of his associates. Addressing the mediapersons Dr Harsha said, “Sam Peter came to Mangaluru for 2 reasons. A notorious criminal, Dubai Sheriff involved in more than 10 criminal cases including smuggling was in touch with some people of Coastal Karnataka. Recently when Rs 10 crore worth of gold sent by Dubai Sheriff was seized at the Bengaluru International airport. A case was in this regard by the Bengaluru Customs was registered and Sherrif had asked advocate Muzaffer Ahamed to help him. Muzaffar introduced Girish Rai and Imtiyaz to Sheriff saying that they had good contacts in Bengaluru customs to release the seized gold. Accordingly, Sheriff then paid Rs 1.7 crore to Girish Rai and Imtiyaz through Muzaffer but did not get the seized gold, instead, a case was filed against him by the Customs. Since the money was paid through Muzaffer, Sheriff asked Muzzaffer to return the money. Muzaffer then contacted Sam Peter to settle the matter and get the money back from Girish Rai and Imtiyaz. As both Girish Rai and Imtiyaz were in Mangaluru, Muzaffer gave the responsibility to Abdul Latif and Mohiddin alias Cheriyan to take good care of Sam Peter when he came to Mangaluru. Sam Peter came to Mangaluru along with his bodyguards to kidnap Girish Rai and Imtiyaz. Both Latif and Mohiddin agreed to help Sam Peter for a certain percentage in the amount. Advocate Muzaffer informed Sam Peter not to use his personal mobile, or number plate for his car. He also advised Sam to save the mobile numbers of DCP and ACPs in his mobile. Advocate Muzaffer knowing that Sam Peter was a criminal involved in extortion supporting him to carry out the crime. The investigation is still on and we will get more information from the accused.”

Dr Harsha further said, “In some places, there is pressure on the investigation officers that innocent people have been arrested in this case. The investigation officers approached the court to get a search warrant to raid the houses of the accused. During the raid on Mohiddin’s house, police seized a machete and presented it to the court. The Kavoor police have filed a case under the arms act. The second reason is that the owner of Kalpana Lodge Ramachandra Nayak had paid money to solve the problem of a Math in Kerala and the Matadisha of the Math Raghavendra Swamiji had given a complaint copy to Sam Peter. Sam Peter came to Mangaluru to meet the opponent of Raghavendra Swamiji. When Sam Peter came to Mangaluru Latif and Mohiddin helped him to commit the crime”.

Dr Harsha also said, “During the investigations, it was revealed that Ramachandra Nayak from Udupi and Advocate Muzaffer Ahamed from Bengaluru supported Sam Peter to commit the crime. There are 14 cases already registered against Sam Peter. Once the investigation completes we will produce Sam Peter to the Court for judicial custody. The CBI and Interpol will issue a body warrant and take him into their custody for further investigations.
