Freak Accident between Car & Scooter near Kambla Junction- 22-year-old lady Rider Critical. MLA U T Khader who was traveling on that road, quickly helped in transporting the severely injured victim in his car to a private hospital.

Mangaluru : Kadri Kambla Junction is a very dangerous zone, with speeding vehicles on their hurry-burry to reach the Airport put others life in danger. Last year on 1 December 2019, a 56 -year-old woman died in a tragic accident (Ref: 56-year-old Teacher Dies in Tragic Road Accident at Kadri ) The victim was Shailaja Rao, a teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya-1, Panambur-Mangaluru, who was traveling in auto-rickshaw was hit by a speeding goods carrier. CCTV footage showed the speeding goods truck moving in a wrong direction in order to avoid hitting another auto-rickshaw near the junction, rams into the auto-rickshaw in which Shailaja was traveling. The goods carrier dragged the auto with it, throwing out its driver, but sadly, Shailaja got pinned inside- and died. Having sustained severe injuries, she was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead later.

And at the same junction, today, 7 August 2020, a car driven by a elderly person who didn’t see the two-wheeler rider going towards Mauriksha Palace apartments road, was knocked down, and dragged under the car for a few metres. Luckily with the help of the locals there, and police personnel who were traveling on that road, helped in lifting the car, and pulled out the severely injured rider. At that moment, MLA U T Khader who was also traveling on that road, quickly helped the severely injured victim by transporting her in his vehicle to a private hospital.

Sources reveal that the victim admitted to a private hospital, and still in critical condition is 22-year-old Ms Vanishree Bhat hailing from Puttur- due to that freak accident, she had sustained severe head injuries and also lower part of her body. Angered by the carelessness of the car driver, the crowd gathered there wanted to attack the driver, but was stopped by UT Khader, citing that the driver was old, and might have got confused, and instead of applying the brakes, must have stepped on the accelerator. A case has been registered at Kadri East police station, and further investigation on.

Last year following the deadly accident that took away the life a woman, Team Mangalorean had stressed on the police department and the concerned authorities, to install road humps/barricades, in order to control the speeding vehicles, through a elaborate report, and within few days , the police took action (Ref: Website Impact! Traffic Police Erect Makeshift Metal Dividers on Kadri Kambala Rd, after Freak Accident   ). Not satisfied with the barricades, Team Mangalorean once again published one more article stressing on the police and district authorities to install road humps, and within few days, humps were installed (Ref: Is Neta’s Travel More Important Than Citizen’s Life? Kadri Kambla Rd Needs Speed-Breakers!  ).

But sadly, vehicles still don’t slow down, especially the taxi drivers, who are always in a hurry to reach the airport, and putting others lives in danger. I live just the other side of Kadri Kambla Road, and take this road probably every single day, and I have seen motorists speeding as if it is a highway- and the cops have done nothing to catch these violators. In spite of a few signs posted on this road not to overtake, but no one follows it- everyone wants to speed, overtake- so that they can reach their destination or the airport, little earlier- but not realizing that they are putting their lives and others in danger and jeopardy. And today’s accident is due to the worn out speed humps, that couldn’t slow down the car driver, and thus this accident took place.

And while concluding this report, my humble request to the Police Commissioner, ACP (Traffic) and other concerned authorities to look into this “DANGEROUS” Kadri Kambla Road and put a BRAKE to the SPEEDING MOTORISTS by installing more SPEED BREAKERS or BARRICADES, so that at least in future, there will be no LOSS of HUMAN LIVES, due to the Recklessness of MOTORISTS!

  1. Hello, Alphie, Sad over the incident. Good and elaborate report. UT Khader is always at such spots like an angel. Hope the police, as well as the motorist, take your advice to save lives.

  2. This is not a freak accident…
It’s one of those that was waiting to happen!!!

Motorists have to be careful since it’s a blind spot on all 4 sides when approaching the small cross junction. In this case it looks like both the rider and driver did not slow down coming to the junction.
