Sexual Assault of Minor: Accused Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison
Mangaluru: In a case of sexual assault on a minor girl, the Fast Track Special Court (FTSC-2) of the District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru has sentenced the accused, Abubakkar (50), to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.
In this connection, a case had been registered at the Bantwal Rural Police Station under Crime No. 135/2025, under Sections 64(1) and 351(2) of the BNS and Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act, 2012.
The investigation was carried out by Shivakumar B., who was then serving as the Police Inspector of Bantwal Rural Police Station. After collecting the necessary evidence, he filed the charge sheet before the court.
The trial was conducted at the Fast Track Special Court (FTSC-2) of the District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru. After the completion of the trial, on March 7, 2026, the court found the accused guilty and pronounced the sentence of 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000.
In the case, Smt. Sahanadevi appeared as the Special Public Prosecutor and effectively argued the case. Bantwal Rural Police Station Head Constable Prashanth Kumar (HC-345) assisted in the investigation, while PC-445 Santosh D. Jadhav assisted with court duties.
