Website Impact! Respecting ‘Swachh Bharath, Swasth Bharath’ Bendore College Girls Clean Bus Shelter

Mangaluru : Talk about the power of media, especially Electronic media where we highlight the civic issues and within few hours or few days the concerned authorities who can’t bear the criticism about heir negligence, quickly get into action and rectify the civic issues. In the past Mangalorean.com has highlighted various civic issues through our website, and there has been a tremendous effect with most of the problems being fixed in no time, from rectifying dilapidated roads, open drainage, non-friendly footpaths, dog menace etc etc.

Here is yet another story of website publicity which has brought positive results, and this time action was taken by MCC a little late, but as they say “Better Late Than Never”, after we had highlighted the civic issue in our website- MCC Officials have rectified the problem. No doubt, that the media plays a key role in shaping the growth of the City. Mangalorean.com had published a report ” What Part of the Sign ‘Swatch Bharath, Swasth Bharath’ these Educated College Girls Don’t Understand? , and the link was forwarded to the concerned people and also posted on social media, and in response it seems like the college students have cleaned up their own mess.

BEFORE………

For the last five years, the volunteers of Ramakrishna Mission under the Swachh Bharath, Swatch Mangaluru’ campaign have done a great job in cleaning the streets, footpaths, lanes, and bus shelters, and among the Bus shelters the newly constructed Bendore Smart Bus Shelter has been one among them. But unfortunately, a bunch of students of the college nearby the Bendore Bus Shelter have abused Swachata and have been dumping garbage right behind this bus shelter, and if left unattended could become a breeding ground for diseases.

……..AFTER

In spite of a new bright and visible sign which says “SWACHH BHARATH, SWASTH BHARATH” being installed recently at this Bendore Bus Shelter, however, commuters, especially students of this Bendore institution have turned a blind eye despite this sign being posted- and have been littering the bus shelter with snacks wrappers, soft drink bottles, plastic water bottles etc etc- which is a TOTAL ABUSE towards SWACHH BHARATH or SWACHH MANGALURU! Without any doubt, I can say that among these girls who wait for their respective buses at this Smart Bus Shelter might have taken part in the Swachh campaign organized by the College or by other organizations.

Then, why are they not following the Swachata principles? Why are they intentionally littering at this bus shelter?- are the questions one would ask. And someone asks me, how I know that it was the students of this Bendore College and other commuters- my answer for that question is- twice in two different weeks, I stood nearby to the Bendore Smart Bus Shelter, during the College after hours in the evening-I noticed the students buying their snacks/drinks from the petty shop near the Bus shelter, and from the shop below Penguin restaurant, or from the supermarket and two bakeries across the road, and they come back, eat the snacks, enjoy their drinks- and litter the waste right behind the bus shelter. And it’s all true, observed right in front of my eyes.

I do have BIG respect for this College-for its moral values, discipline, and education- but sadly when these few students who should know better, being educated at a prestigious college, should not abuse Swach Bharath/Swach Mangaluru. It looks bad when educated people do such things, when the nation and other organizations are trying their best to keep the Country CLEAN and GREEN- and that includes our Smart City-MANGALURU. After Team Mangalorean had highlighted the pathetic scene of garbage behind this bus shelter, the garbage has been cleaned, even though not 100% clean, but something is better than nothing! I only wish citizens, including these educated college girls stop littering in future. Thank You!
