Website Impact! MSCL STARTS the STOPPED Drainage Work on Kadri Road

Website Impact! Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) STARTS the STOPPED Drainage Work on Kadri Road, opposite to Natural Ice Cream

Mangaluru : Talk about the power of media, especially Electronic media where we highlight the civic issues and within few hours or few days the concerned authorities who can’t bear the criticism about heir negligence, quickly get into action and rectify the civic issues. In the past Mangalorean.com has highlighted various civic issues through our website, and there has been a tremendous effect with most of the problems being fixed in no time, from rectifying dilapidated roads, open drainage, non-friendly footpaths, dog menace etc etc.

Here is yet another story of website publicity which has brought positive results, and this time action was taken by Mangaluru Smart City Limited officials within the next day after our report was published, and necessary action has been taken. No doubt, that the media plays a key role in shaping the growth of the City. Mangalorean.com had published a report ” After Scooter Rider & a Child Fell into Incomplete Drainage, Still No Action from MSCL Officials, and the link was forwarded to the concerned people and also posted on social media, and in response it seems like the action was taken by the concerned authorities at MSCL. Team Mangalorean extends heartfelt thanks to Er Arun Prabha- General Manager, MSCL and his team for their quick action in this regard.

BEFORE WEBSITE IMPACT…..

It’s sad to note that the Projects undertaken by MSCL are not done the right way or delayed for a long time, and many projects are left half done. And one such drainage work was on Kadri Road/Kadri Pumpwell, opposite Natural Ice Cream- a work that was started in October 2019, and most of the work was done, but at the end of November, all the labourers left, and the project was left half-done. Pedestrians were having a tough time to walk on the footpaths or cross the roads, while the motorists were facing all kind of inconveniences. Interlock bricks were scattered all over and dug up mud was blocking pedestrians movement. Everyone of us living in the vicinity were put into hardship and inconveniences, while moving around this incomplete project. Few days ago a school going child fell into the open ditch/drainage while running to catch the school bus- and yesterday evening a scooter rider while making a turn near a incomplete drain, lost balance- and both he and his scooter fell into the ditch- bit luckily in both the cases, the injuries were minor. But it seems like the MSCL officials are waiting for casualty/fatality to take place, and probably only then they will start the work again and finish it. Bah humbug!

………AFTER WEBSITE IMPACT

And out of frustration, Team Mangalorean made a report and was published in Mangalorean.com, and also the link was sent to concerned authorities at MSCL to take action- and the report did show results. Next day morning, Yours Truly got a call from Er Arun Prabha, the General Manager (Technical) at MSCL, that he will be coming to the site for inspection, to do the needful. I was ready, and Ln Govardhan Shetty (my neighbour) also joined me in meeting Er Arun Prabha and his team. Er Arun was also accompanied by Harish Kumar-Assistant Engineer-MSCL; Sandesh- WTE, PMC MSCL; and Nithesh -Engineer at Murgody Constructions.

It turned out to be a long discussion, and Ln Govardhan Shetty also being a Engineer, suggested few ideas, and the MSCL team agreed to oblige with our demands. Within few hours, a JCB was arranged, and all the mud that was piled up was leveled, thus making a way for the movement of vehicles and people without any hardship. All the dirt and rocks were also removed, and as per our request, safety signs and barricades were posted around the open pits. Next day morning a bunch of workers showed up, and the work is going on smoothly, and as assured by Er Arun Prabha, the whole project could take 15 more days. I on behalf of the residents of Kadri Pumpwell area would like to thank Er Arun and his team for cooperating with us and assuring us of the drainage work completion soon.

If Team Mangalorean had not highlighted this issue, the stopped work would have never started again for a while, and in the meantime, we could have seen many more accidents/injuries in that construction zone. In the meantime, we will adjust driving or walking past this construction zone, until the project is completed in the nearest future. Hoping for the best, in anticipation I remain thanking the concerned MSCL officials!
