Why Would Anyone Transfer a GOOD & STRICT Police Commissioner in Just 5 Months??

Mangaluru: He Came, He Saw, He Conquered …the hearts of his colleagues and Citizens of Mangaluru through his strict laws and effective governance. In his short stint as a Police Commissioner, he has earned accolades for cracking down on drug peddlers, thieves involved in illegal cattle trafficking, miscreants creating communal disharmony, people involving in cricket game betting, disciplining private bus drivers and conductors and also other motorists who break traffic rules through his several special drives, his appeal to the public through hoardings to use social media to tip off the police on traffic violations and crimes, his quick actions taken on complaints made by people during the Friday’s Phone-In Programme, and many other plans had become a hit.

It was Patil’s initiative to name the All Women Police Force in the City as “Rani Abbakka Pade”, to tackle all the problems faced by the women in the city, either domestic violence, crime, assaults, rape, etc. So when such a hard-working, committed and disciplinary police commissioner has been doing a great job in his duties, why would anyone transfer such an honest and strict government servant in such a short span of time. Barely five months after being appointed as police commissioner Sandeep Patil on 22 February 2019, was transferred on Thursday 1 August 2019, and Dr Subramanyeshwara Rao who was the DGP-Intelligence inn Bengaluru has replaced Patil as the new Police Commissioner of Mangaluru. The move has raised eyebrows both in the police administration and outside.

Even though such transfers are obvious in the wake of a change in the state government, the quick transfer of Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil came as surprise to many, given the sensational death of Cafe Coffee Day founder V G Siddhartha that took place in Mangaluru just two days back. As per sources in the police department, the transfer of top cop Patil, who was monitoring the investigation of such a big case that has drawn the attention will send a wrong signal and hence should have been avoided. Mangaluru Police under the supervision of Patil — not market regulator Sebi or the ministry of corporate affairs, appears to be the first to have kicked off an investigation into the financial affairs of V.G. Siddhartha, founder of the Café Coffee Day chain.

So was it the dirty tricks played by the politicians after the change of state government to transfer Patil? Was it the drug mafia and cricket betting mafia might have influenced the politicians in the BJP government for Patil’s transfer? Was it because the other higher police officials in the police commissionerate were kind of restricted in their corrupt and bribery manners in making extra moolah that Patil got transferred? Or is it because of the political influence of bus owners who didn’t like the strictness of Patil that they wanted him out of Mangaluru? Or is it………, these are some of the questions many would raise in the wake of the early transfer of Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil, who had done a great job during his tenure.

Seems like Mangaluru does not want to keep good, strict and honest government officials, to govern the City. Patil’s transfer seems like yet another case when Commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation Hephsiba Rani Korlapati who also got a quick transfer barely after five months in the office. Just because She was Smart, Strict, Educated, Adept, Talented, Dedicated, Committed, Transparent, Knowledgeable, Positive, Proven, more Focused than her predecessors- similarly was Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil with all those qualities. No doubt that good and concerned citizens of Mangaluru had full hopes in this young Police Commissioner that the City would have progressed with strict law and order during his tenureship, and that many things would be accomplished under his leadership, some which no other TOP COP would realistically ever be able to deliver- but all their hopes are gone in vain, due to the unexpected transfer of Sandeep Patil. Mangaluru will surely miss an honest, strict and disciplinary Police Commissioner!

Team Mangalorean wishes Sandeep Patil Sir, all success while he takes up the post as DIG and Joint Commissioner of Police (Crimes) in City of Bengaluru.
