Does anyone know if mangaluru police dept makes crime statistics available to public? I recently came across the following website, It talks about daily incidents but doesn’t show any statistics from current year and previous years. This could be a good opportunity to showcase how safe our city really is as compared to other cities. Well, just a thought… http://www.mangalorecitypolice.com/

  • From Horny Manatee on 3 CFAL students Win Top Ranks in JEE-Main '16

Further to my recent rantings on the grade inflation in our higher secondary and university education system in India where everyone seems to have scored over 90% results while most of the schools having achieved 100% pass rate, I came across a person(student) who apparently claimed 97% in 2nd PUC result in the Science stream from one of the prestigious colleges in Mangalore (one which sits on the top of a hill). Even photos were proudly published on online and traditional media. I really found it hard to believe at that time. In the end however my suspicions turned out to be true. That person did not even clear the 1st round of IIT-JEE held recently. You may assume I am coming too harsh on these “high achievers” but if someone scores 97% in science subjects then surely the least you can expect from them is to at least pass the IIT prelims if not managing to get a seat in the end in them. So what’s happening here? I have no doubt in my mind that most of the off-kilter results you get to read about these days are nothing but an outcome of rote-learning (GiLi-bai-paTa). Our education system is rotten to the core. Everyone is running just like in the horse race but nobody knows where exactly they are headed. There is no emphasis on evaluating how effectively the student has learned the subjects nor is any importance given to the real world problem solving ability or aptitude. So what is the real purpose of education then? It appears to me the only thing this episode brings out is for the parents to falsely assume their children are good at something when in reality they really are not as good. But that does not stop them from boasting in social circles about their children’s achievement. In fact they never miss a chance. For bench marks, if someone manages to get into an IIT then they are really worth their salt. As for the rest, you have to take these results with a pinch of salt.

This Bhagat is one highly overrated writer in India just like how Karan Joker ranks in the Bollywood scene. His writings are fit only for those call center employees on their way to night shift. But the thing is he considers himself at par with the likes of Rushdie or Wodehouse.

So..’Agni’ Sreedhara is a progressive guy? Is it the same agni sreedhara who identified himself as an ex-mafia guy and ran a tabloid by the name ‘Agni’? Remember – many of these characters use the code word ‘progressive’ to show their true anti-brahmana agenda. One has to realize how these guys are notoriously known for playing anti-brahama propaganda from politics to journalism. I also remember agni sreedhara’s media campaign against ‘Hai Bangalooru’ Ravi Belegere in 2002-2003 purely because of Belegere’s brahmana background!! Coming back to this couple – they have all the right to marry if they are in love with each other. At the same time, Private Corporations reserve the right to hire or fire workers. Many illiterates in today’s society don’t understand the difference between Private and Public institutions. Just look around and see how different institutions prefer different caste and religious background based on the top management. Don’t tell me an institution run by Catholic and an institution run by GSB will have no difference in the people they hire!! Bigger question is – How do you explain this simple reality to anganawaadi jokers? LOL

I usually mix coco peat and organic fertilizer in equal proportions initially. Later neem cake and castor cake soaked in water are supplied as additional fertilizer. Micro nutrient spray are occasionally used over leafs. Rarely chemical fertilizers are used. No chemical insecticide. Neem oil spray is used as insecticide.

Coco peat is mixed with almost equal quantity of organic manures and vermicompot ( if available). As the plants grow mainly castor cake and neem cake soaked in water as added fertilizer. Very rarely I use chemical fertilizer . no insecticide except neem oil.

This is a joke. Politics is a last refuge of a scoundrel. Mr. Sorake, were is your sense of decency and dignity, when you run to Sonia Gandhi and catch her feet and…? If an employee is efficient and an asset, nevertheless due to reasons best known to the employers, he is given the marching orders, then he should go away with dignity. If they want him, they will call him and that is the time he should bargain hard. As things are presently in Congress, with this mother-son combine, I would not be surprised that this entity withers away. For those people who are not aware, the founder of the Indian National Congress was a British I.C.S. Office, A.O. Hume and not Mahatma Gandhi, Jawarharlal Nehru or his khandaan.

  • From Nelson Lewis on Rape survivor Sunitha Krishnan Lambasts Salman

Salman Khan’s comments on the arduous routine he underwent in “Sultan” while the wrestling shots were being taken to what a rape victim (lady) is very irresponsible and in poor taste. Salman Khan has not been a respecter of law and inspite of hauled up for killing wildlife, running his vehicle over people with disastrous consequences, he has not been put behind the bar. We can criticize the police for bad and shoddy investigation and the creaky judicial system that took so long to deliver a judgement. If Salman Khan was a decent man, he would have after the accident, rather than running away from the scene, surrendered to police and admitted that he was driving the vehicle and willing to compensate the kith-and-kin of the dead person. And there are many fans who have no work other than standing in front of Salman Khan’s house to offer support to him. As regards the Bollywood community, they have all read the book, “Honour among thieves” by Jeffrey Archer and they would just keep mum and, in fact, support him with all sorts of excuses. When it comes to such situations, they are all comrade-in-arms. Where is that so-called respectable guy, Amitabh Bachchan, his ilk and others? Now, where is there sense of fair play? Salman Khan’s father, Salim Khan, defends the wrongs of his son, whether his son kills wildlife, kills a person under the influence of alcohol, through rash and negligent driving, etc. I wish everyone had such nice fathers.

Weren’t my Kundali, jathaka and Vastu rejected too? Come on ya Rampa, the MOST merciful, please add those 3 too to my “rejected” list. You see, by the year end you HAVE to come up with at least a dozen things that have been allegedly “rejected” for me. Lol! What a joker! You see, it is YOU have been busy copy-pasting names of those morons apprehended with smuggled Mackenna’s gold in places where the sun doesn’t shine. ALL you are doing is – polarizing people and communities while portraying your RSS stooges to be altar boys who wouldn’t know what to do even if a peeled banana were to be put in their mouths. Kim Jon Un’s only qualification to lead the Stalist State of North Korea is dynastic rule: his father and grand-father ruled with a iron hand and grip and now it is his turn. Rightly so, it is calledd a “Hermit Kingdom”. It is high time the people of North Korea get rid of this nut, who rules this country in perpetuity, along with a very small elite. The per capita income of North Korea is very low and it has trade with China and Russia and, to a small extent, with its highly prosperous neighbour, South Korea, whose per capita income is equivalent to that of Israel and puts China, the world’s fastest growing economy, and many oil-rich Arabian countries to shame. South Korea and Israel have achieved immense progress through industrious and putting intelligence to use, rather than being blessed with oil. During my career, I was privileged to see products manufactured by many countries: some countries’ products are highly advanced, other countries products are substandard. However, I have yet to see a product manufactured by North Korea.

I read an article about India’s plans to modernize the Navy and also construction of pocket-size battle ships and equipping all warships with missiles and construction of mini-submarines for transporting commandoes to enhance their fighting capabilities and the punch they carry. The good thing is that they will be indigenously produced, i.e. built in Indian shipyards. Navy has made some or much headway in indigenisation. I salute them. Gone are the days of sonia Gandhi and Dr. Manmohan Singh combine when, if all that is reported in the media is to be believed, they were interfering with technical specifications set up by experts only to favour substandard arms manufacturers, including Italian manufacturers and collect kickbacks. People who make or pocket monies on the sly by compromising country’s security, people who rob monies from temples of worship to enrich themselves should be tried and prosecuted and, if found guilty, should be given the stiffest punishment. The Italian Court judgement has said that Dr. Manmohan Singh, the so-called Mr. Clean also made fat sums in kickbacks. So, all crooks and scoundrels may have got hefty sums, including Christian Michel and other middle-men. Imagine tomorrow, should Sonia and Rahul Gandhi be the Prime Minister, what would be the fate of the country? It is high time we not only cut down the cost of production of arms and ammunitions by producing them at home, but also exporting arms to friendly countries and building friendly alliances with them to counter China.

Like for eg – beloved HRD minister who boasted of her Yale ‘degree’ after doing some sightseeing in Disneyland and Neverland, and, some ex Physics professor AND his guru – our ‘phoreen balping’ Pravaadhi Sevaka who promised all Indians rs 15 lakhs, Subbi Swami – the guided missile (as opposed to misguided) who is now gunning for the Chief Economic Advisor’s blood, Pahlaj Nihalani (who proudly announced that he is a Modi Chamcha & is chief of Censor Board for Films), Gajendra Chauhaaana (a 2 bit soft-porn ‘actor’ who is chief of FTTI), Chethana Chauhana (an ex-cricketer and Banker who was newly appointed chief of FTTI just because of his sworn allegience to the BJP/RSS), Deenanatha Bhatraa (another RSS stooge who is saffronizing education in India) ….. Oh well, the list of geniuses from the Original Beef Club is endless! See ya Rampa, the solution is simple. To answer your question – “How does Beef Club produce so many geniuses?”, all you gotta do is one of the following: 1. Look up their email addresses in your RSS diary and mail them. 2. Send them your query on Whatsapp. 3. Call them on IMO or Viber or even have a Skype convo with them. (Hey, you could try Tinder too) 😉 4. Send them an old-fashioned inland letter or Telegram from wherever you are. and there you go….. problem solved. 🙂

If arrested, what section of the IPC are you going to charge him under? Where exactly is this quest going to end? We can/should not have control over what other human being thinks. That should be that person’s fundamental right, as long as it does not cause any physical harm to others, or to their character or reputation. Regardless of the insensitivity of the comment, it is my view that people should be allowed to say what they have in mind without any fear, instead of forcing it to remain buried deep inside. It also gives the society as a whole an opportunity to reflect where we, as human beings, have reached. There is no necessity to abuse the law for such silly comment by a hollow mind.

Media should always be cautious in such sensitive situations like this. Being a responsible citizen just to raise your newspaper’s TRP, do not publish such news which hurts the sentiments/emotions of people. A child is God’s gift. They are so innocent be it any religion. Before you publish investigate it yourself. Check Facebook if that piece of Status does really exist. If it exists then you can complain to FACEBOOK to remove that content. What — has done is a big blunder by publishing and then giving the opportunity to people to circulate it. The said newspaper when they received the image from such a person, if as a responsible person instead of publishing it in the newspaper, if he had sent it to police, I think now the culprit would have already been behind bars.

I looked into — newspaper online and found the article. We being in software industry felt that the image posted by them was a photoshopped image. Now it is for the police to investigate where the image originated from. How did they get that image? If at all it is actually an FB Status of Shankar Prasad, let them publish the FB URL so that police will be able to investigate the matter with more detail. I fully agree with Drona. Wrong side operation is uncommon but it happens in the US or UK [over 100 cases per year despite all precautions were taken. It should be considered as a medical negligence and the causation cannot be defended in court of law. Patient should be compensated. This complication is nothing to do with Doctors who pay donation to become a doctor. Media should not criticise doctors on the basis of richness of the doctor or his medical school or whether he has paid donation or not.

A CLASSIC EXAMPLE IN UDUPI My son who is also a doctor visited a doctor in Udupi for severe stomach pain. While the doctor was not available physically at the hospital, he was consulted over the phone. He suggested scanning and diognised as a Kidney Stone. He was advised to get admitted immedietly for surgery. Upon calling me, I advised him to come to Kundapur and see the family doctor. He also scanned and there was a kidney stone. However, he prescribed oral medicine (and no surgery) for dilating the stone. It is a week now and he is ok. • From Horny Manatee on Doctor’s Negligence Case - IMA Clarifies

“Working for the society selflessly for the past 25 years” does not necessarily exonerate the doctor of doing anything unethical. In the absence of postmortem report the local body of IMA giving a clean chit in a matter of days to the doctor does not quite cut it. No turkey will ever vote for Christmas. In the West such investigations take months if not years, so how can anyone accept this verdict reached within a week and put this episode behind? How can IMA recommend to have a legal process to be tried in the court while there is no postmortem report? How convenient is it to blame the relatives for not carrying out the postmortem? First of all the authorities should establish whether this hospital has a big loan to repay? If that’s the case, then that most certainly can unduly influence the behaviour of any doctor when discharging their duties. At the end of the day they have an instalment to pay to the lender and lenders won’t care regardless of the underlying problem. This obviously forces the borrower (the doctor or the management) to think in terms of maximising revenue for the hospital. JMJ Diagnova was shutdown for financial reasons couple of decades ago in Udupi despite being fully occupied all the time. Apparently the loans taken out to build it were disproportional to the cash flow (there could have been other reasons too). Can anyone verify whether this hospital is in similar situation? If it is true, then a full financial audit should be done for every hospital in the region and then the medical authority has to carry out their own auditing about the practice in the last 5 years if those hospitals are in poor financial health. That will definitely shed some light into this issue. If unusual but excessive bleeding is a known problem in medicine, then why wasn’t this hospital equipped with the necessary facilities to deal with such a not-so-uncommon occurrence in a timely manner? Why did the regulators not find out about this while granting permission? Once the situation goes out of control even an hour (which would have taken for the patient to reach Manipal) would have made a difference between life and death. Last thing to find out is why was the postmortem not insisted upon by KMC when it was an unnatural death. Regardless of the relatives’ wish, isn’t there a legal requirement to carry it out to legally acknowledge what really happened? People can argue based on technicalities of the law but KMC should not have released the body before doing an autopsy. I am not questioning the personal integrity of every doctor and I am sure they would not have gone into the profession with an intention to do any harm to their patients but the ground reality where they work may be entirely different. Perhaps they are forced to do certain things at the insistence of their employer/partners. It happens in business all the time so it is imperative to find out. People’s anger (mainly the relatives and friends of the deceased) in media and social networking is palpable. There is no necessity to paint them as anti-social or fringe elements. Only relatives understand the pain of losing one of their own. A life lost never comes back no matter what. It was a natural outburst of simmering discontent among the people built up over the last couple of decades all owing to the questionable practices carried out by many of these mini-hospitals in our coastal region. There are far too many cases to brush this incident under the carpet. Again, I would like to clarify, my views above are not necessarily an expression of angst towards doctors in general. It’s mainly about the over-commercialisation of the profession of medicine, especially when it comes the questionable practices of these ill-equipped mini-hospitals in our twin districts (again not all mini-hospitals, but most of them).

  • From Lawrence on Doctor’s Negligence Case - IMA Clarifies

My mother and my eldest sister gave birth to 11 and 8 children respective. All the deliveries took place at home and all the kids have survived except on who died with chocking at the age of two. All we had some help from elderly woman from our neighborhood. Is it necessary to go to the hospital for the delivery? Childbirth is natural process. Even in the USA people do not go to the hospital and deliver babies in the bath tub. My former neighbor did it because of her religious belief. I agree that media should refrain from reporting news that scandalizes the Doctor unless there is prima-facie negligence. The trust between doctor and the patient is very essential for all kind of medical services. Do we need to go to the hospital for delivering the baby? Try at home the old fashioned way.

I hope serious action is taken against the omni driver. 16 people in a 8seater death vehicle. The safety rating of Omni is zero and it’s still been sold in the market. I urge the parents of the kids to register a case against the omni driver as well as the bus driver. The bus driver might be wrong but the Omni driver is equally responsible for this. The lives might not come back but it should be a lesson for the unsafe drivers. All the little angels soul rest in peace.

  • From Dr. Shashikiran Umakanth on Doctor’s Negligence Case - IMA Clarifies

Excellent statement of facts by IMA UDUPI-KARAVALI. The unfortunate habit of people pointing fingers at well-meaning doctors will only result in doctors subconsciously taking a defensive attitude with every patient. This will mean more unnecessary referrals, more unnecessary tests as you never know when you will be called “negligent” for not doing that test or referring to that specialist. The “cream” of students take up Medicine as their profession. Why will they “kill” a defenseless patient? If such baseless allegations become common, good students will never join Medicine, and even if they join, they will leave the country. That will result in only goons, who are brave and brazen enough to fight these, becoming doctors. Instead of fighting diseases, they will be always ready fight with patients and their relatives and “friends”. People, please remember that most doctors who are working here, in spite of having better pbetter job options in other countries, are not in this profession to make more money. Unfortunately, the people responsible this irresponsible allegation will probably never read this.

A very sensible article addressing that which makes every Indian essentially corrupt, irrespective of their religious affiliation. Our very culture allows us to be corrupt in our dealing with our gods too. If you give me this then I will do that! In this case translated to ‘ You better give me this or else….. As the author states in most cases illegitimate wealth is paid to ven purchase salvation or forgiveness of past & future wrongdoing. The very idea of doing something in return for favors is corrupt and this is why such behavior manifests very easily in our day to day dealings with our peers, our subordinates and those whose favor we seek. This is why irrespective of our religious preference, irrespective of our demonstrated desire to eradicate corruption in government, such initiatives will never succeed.

There are a lot of people from the so called low caste who have misused the privileges they have in the name of reservation and this number is more than the number of GSBs in the entire world. You are totally wrong here. All the higher caste people have to secure a seat through merit. If they are in good positions in the US then its because of their capability and not caste or the money their parents have. Its not easy to secure a job in US with your parents money. Even if you do you will have will have to face the consequences during immigration.

In business you either have to adapt or perish. Future is happening to the taxi business worldwide, so blaming Ola for your unpreparedness is not the right way forward. Run a good service at decent rates and you also can drive Ola out of business. Your unionised thinking is wrong. Why do you want somebody else to safeguard your industry? You can not expect growth and protectionist regulations at the same time. If that’s the case nobody will invest. Complacency isn’t a good thing in this globalised world. Government should keep its nose out of enterprise and let competition sort itself out.

  • From Horny Manatee on Death of Pregnant Woman, Mother Files Case Against Doctor

C-section is a big business in India, especially bigger in south India. Every alternate child, if not more, born is through caesarian these days. Simple and straight forward delivery cases are deliberately botched so as to make money. At least it pays for all the big loans taken out to build these hospitals. Who cares about the patients and their welfare while the regulators are sleeping at the wheel? 50 years ago there were hardly any hospitals but people in India still managed to get by. Why such complications we get to hear about now? About 15 years ago even my sister went through similar ordeal (though thankfully there weren’t any fatalities). She is a qualified midwife/nurse by profession(a state-level rank holder trained at Fr.Muller’s) who was working in the Middle East at that time. She thought she would get better care in India during her maternity so she decided to have the baby in India and chose one of these mini-hospitals (we see tens of them mushrooming every year these days). She chose that hospital because everyone recommended it -apparently that lady gyn was a very friendly doctor, always smiles and “does not wear an apron”. That’s the criteria in India for people to decide who is a good doctor and who is quack. Their skills and abilities mean nothing. It was an uncomplicated pregnancy for the most part and there were no signs of any problems even till the very end (I know this because, as I said, my sister had more than 7 years of midwifery experience at that time and she was monitoring her case closely). But then this “doctor” in India (who had already known my sister worked in the Middle East) started unnecessarily complicating the situation (with the intention of making money). She administered the medicine to induce delivery in the evening and went home, with no necessary plans put in place to monitor the progress. There was one semi-skilled nurse on duty (one of those “nurses” with a certification as a nursing assistant got by attending a 2-year course. In reality they know nothing more than changing bed sheets and cleaning the bed pans). This “nurse” despite my sister insisting that she wasn’t feeling well during night, ignored her pleas to get the doctor until the morning. My sister begged her to get help but only thing she got in return was shoutings from that nurse. The next morning when the doctor turned up, the baby apparently was in grave danger and they immediately did a c-section. The child had gone all deep blue when he came out. And then the same doctor took the baby to another hospital in a hurry as she did not know what to do. Fortunately the baby survived but was in NICU for 3 weeks in Manipal but because of the negligence of this hospital the baby developed UTI and simply could not pass urine without the inconsolable crying for a month. It was blatantly obvious the doctor deliberately botched this to make money out of c-section but then it got spiralled out of control. But at that time there was nothing we could do. This hospital mafia is too big for us the common people to do anything about. At least we have a strong social media to learn about such things. For the next delivery my sister played safe and had her maternity in the Middle East itself without any complications. At least in that part of the world there is fear of the law for such low-lives to think about doing anything nefarious. It is my view that if a hospital tries to send a patient to another hospital (i.e. once the situation goes out of control) then that hospital should be shut down immediately. Such hospitals only prove that either they do not have the right doctors or do not have full facilities to treat a patient, neither is ever acceptable when it comes to clinical standards. Gone are the days when we used to treat doctors like demigods. Today many have become doctors not out of innate passion but through the power of money and the intention of making more money. It’s a big family business between people to venture into building such ill-equipped hospitals. Husband is a paediatrician, wife ob-gyn, brother-in-law is surgery and they start a hospital by taking out one big loan. And then all these evil practices ensue. And on top of that they have this arrogance of demanding respect from patients and kin for nothing. Hope the government wakes up and starts cracking the whip but I know it won’t happen anytime soon. Until then all people can do is spread the word and boycott such hospitals.

This article does a good job of capturing the sad state of city infrastructure. In my opinion, we can fix the problem with bus shelters by a simple change in its design. The current design with partial walls and bench encourages all questionable elements abuse the facility. If we build simple platforms with a roof, we may end up discouraging abusers. Finally I encourage media to approach local MLA on addressing such issues.

  • From francis on Mumbai : Save Our Land Organizes Talk on 'Better Policing' by Anson Thomas

Holy Father You are the tree and cardinal bishops are the trunk and we are branches. Then why we lay people rights are not considered by Mumbai church Govt gives receipt for every penny paid then why Church do not give receipt for contribution to Mass,Donation Certificate issued etc From last several years, I am fighting for transparency in Funds collected by Church .Mumbai Church is full of news about land selling to builders, demanding donations,Not giving records of fund collected Why Holy Father instead of giving instruction does not come heavily on those who go against Church teachings. Why we are tutored like a child that God is merciful and we can go on sinning The first trunk part that will crack is Mumbai archdiocese. My Church Nativity of Lord Kandivali east Mumbai collects building funds of Rs two lakh from public every month . The priest refuses to give balance sheet showing where crores from last seven years or more are kept . We want to know which bank hold this money. We want expenditure / income details from the start of the fund. This father has completed five years then why is he not transferred. Should I believe there are God Fathers? Our Church is closed the full day on Monday, No mass. Why one assistant is not given to this church as we have seven hundred families. The contribution to the fund is voluntary but they have made compulsory by closing nose saying no minority/baptism /marriage certificate be given unless latest receipt of contribution to the fund is shown Holy father has to act against Archbishop as my letters fall on deaf ears. Father This same priest shouts against the corruption of Govt but what is he doing by hiding facts. We can preach many good but can we be hypocrites WE can arrange yearly picnic yearly party and what not then why not annual general body meeting to discuss accounts and other agenda

Regressive stenographers in media have been making fun of Donald Trump ever since he declared his candidacy. He has proved every single prediction wrong and turned the entire regressive media into a miserable, laughable stock!! From New York Times to NDTV, stenographers are trying hard to spin the latest terrorist incident into a ‘gun violence’ story. This is why people are sick and tired of these lies!! The birth and rise of Donald Trump is entirely due to the fail of liberals and media. For too long, these groups have been hiding truth from public and it is finally backfiring now!!

Pehlaj Nihilani, the controversial head of the Central Board of Film Certification, is a great admirer of Narendra Modi and can be called a boot-licker. Naturally, though he is a -rate producer of chalu films, he is a political appointee of BJP. Naturally, toadies and lackeys have to be rewarded for their unquestionable loyalty. be it any party. Even in Indian National Congress or, shall we say as it stands today, Chotta Peg, sorry Mr. Praveen Pinto for the goof-up, Chotta Congress, the Supremo is hardly comfortable with action-oriented, erudite and dynamic people like Shashi Tharoor, but has rewarded A.K. Antony and Oscar Fernandes for their obedience and subservience. She was even discourteous to P.V. Narasimha Rao, the Prime Minister who opened India’s socialist, licence-raj and communist-like economy, when Dr. Manmohan Singh got ample leeway to display his talents.

Once again, I truly commend all the parties involved from state govt to local organizations for helping this community. These are also people with different sexual preference. They shouldn’t be punished for who they are. I should also point out the role of media here – This portal has been doing a great job of reporting on their issues and more importantly treating them like human beings. For all the flaws in Indian society, this is why we still have hopes for future. We admit our shortcomings and move towards correcting them. Nobody issued any death threats to journalists or organizations for advocating transgender rights. Let’s remember – this is not true in all societies. There are ideologies who want to target LGBT community and kill them. As I write this, there is a breaking news from Florida where a man has killed more than 40 people in a gay club. If you think his name is Robert or Raamachandra, you are wrong!!!!! Wake the hell up guys and see the reality!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • From Henry James on KSRTC Bus and Car Collision, 3 Dead on Spot

Omni is effectively a hearse carrying passengers who are alive but can turn into corpses any minute. When you buy a car, the first thing to look for is how safe/sturdy it is to withstand an impact from an average accident. Second is how stable it is on the road during all weather conditions. Omni is the worst performer in India on both these counts though it might be the cheapest option for the consumer. Most of our locally manufactured cars do not even pass the basic safety certification used in the West. Money or mileage should be the last consideration while buying a car if one cares for their life or their loved ones’. Maruthi, Hyundai are best avoided in India especially as the road conditions and traffic discipline are one among the worst in the world.

Mr. Henry, I honestly pity the people who drive a Maruti Omni. If I may may butt in, that ‘Pepsi can’ with a so-called 800 cc ‘engine’ is is fit ONLY to ‘drive’ corpses to the local Cemetery/smashanas. Well, the engine has zilch to do with it. The basic design… the Crumple zones, side-impact protection, proper headrests, strong occupant compartments, airbags – frontal & rear are totally missing. Well, well.. well.. who is to tell Nithin Gad..Kaaari about this? Apparently, his Vespa/Lamby/Bajaj sans a helmet is foolproof. 😉

  • From Nelson Lewis on Goa – A Much Sought-after Destination

After having travelled abroad, I have seen many nationalities, talked to them, savoured their cuisine and developed a “live-and-let-live” attitude. As regards Indian Police, they are a highly corrupt and incompetent force and comparable with an armed mob. When Pakistani terrorists attacked various targets in Bombay, i.e. Taj Mahal and Trident, Jewish Centre, etc., they just could not handle these handful of terrorists and Marine Commandoes had to be heli-dropped. The Chief Minister and the Commissioner of Police got off lightly. In fact, the ex-Chief Minister, Vilasrao Deshmukh, the less said about him the better, was rewarded for his incompetence in beefing up State’s security to meet terrorist challenges by being made a Central Minister. ? Police need a total transformation and everyone from a Constable to the D.G.P. shoud be trained by British Bobbies. In fact, all policemen should join as Constable and rise up the ladder as per their abilities, education, departmental exams, etc. If the Police Commissioners of London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc., began their careers as a Constable, why do you need Sub-Inspectors’ and IPS Training Institutes?

May be now he is scared that he too might get into deep trouble. If this guy naresh shenoy innocent, then why is he on the run ? • From Vinayak on Goa – A Much Sought-after Destination

I fully agree with Narashima Kamath. Goa might be a dull state in terms of business as the state citizens dont run behind money and they really enjoy life with family. They close the shops in respective time both in the afternoon and evenings. Their punctual behaviour in treating equal to all, while they also consider the tourism friends with great respect. None of the liquor shops shall be open after 8 pm (max time) and then one has to head to clubs. Goans support their brotherhood and hence evenings are been let to the clubs for earning their living. Nowhere else we can find this. Yes, on another note, it is very hard to find anyone who is drunk and creating scenes on the streets. All in all it is one beautiful place for a relaxed holiday. The author has pointed out and penned very right points, while comparing to other forgien countries specially the Gulf states and in precise Saudi Arabia. Well done Nelson Lewis. I love to read your articles always. Keep up the good work and do keep writing.

Police arrest ‘six youth’. Yes – ‘six youth’ perfectly describes ‘sarfuddin, mohammed, second mohammed, third mohammed, salmaan and sayyad’!!!! On the other hand, if these were ramesha-ganesha-suresha, it is very important to point out any links they may have with local sanaathana groups, RSS or BJP.

I’ve nothing but respect for Shree Narendra Bhaayi Modiji. However, I can’t say the same thing about those guys seen in these photos. Especially the one in blue shirt lecturing the crowd!! Then again, he is somewhat better than the elected rep from Congress who is carefully protected by local media for reasons only imaginary god knows!! The guy in blue shirt at least showed up once for ‘swachcha mangalooru’ campaign while the other guy was totally missing!!

  • From Robert Pais on Another absconder?

I take it that in murder investigations police need not reveal everything in a GOSSIP BLOG to every one about the leads and information they have. If they do and it affects the investigation in a negative way then this amount to professional misconduct. There is nothing fishy about it. The motives of prime land could mean the builders and developers involved. We Indians use our brains to find fishy issues – instead of what is staring right in our faces- human greed and wearing a mask of Indian culture and sanskrathi. How come rowdy elements are endorsed by sitting MP of Mangalore? We also need to ask ourselves the question – do we vote for him based on his party his community etc? I think we have the responsibility here. If we cry out loud lamenting criminilization of politics – we ourselves have to blame for this tolerance when we vote. Hats off to police force for the powerful statement : if Mr Kamath is to be going to politics then he better not be a criminal. I ask GSB community and Mangaloreans in general – do we need to support a person with criminal background just because he is of particular community. If Britishers were able to exploit our divisiveness and ability to pull others down eliminate competition – years after independence little has changed. I view religion as a tool to become a better human being. If religion and community become tools for divisive thinking, greed, jealousy then there is very little divinity left and rest are all rituals.

While its near two months since the murder and Naresh shenoy is not to be seen or traced by the police, now how come suddenly the pointer turns to Vedavyas? Why is it now revealed and not during the initial investigations…Something fishy.

Whether or not the person in the news is right or wrong in terms of the allegations that have surfaced, it is interesting to see what happens when you go against the establishment. Every law in the book is used and abused to silence that person. If the person was a law breaker what were the authorities doing so far in the last 15 years.

In short the actions of Ms. Anupama Shenoy, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, clearly show that I.P.S. is not meant for people who are honest, upright, possess integrity and want to fight crime. It is meant for haan jees, sycophants, who want to amass ill-gotten wealth. Ms. Anupama Shenoy has done the right thing by quitting from this corrupt system, as she would not have made much headway.

Why did she resign? What is going on here? We all need to know. It is disappointing to see honest, upright people and truthful from all walks of life being forced out of their jobs and public life. Whether, it is Congress or BJP there are people at highest levels elected and bureaucrats protecting unscrupulous peoples apparently for a fee or a position which makes our “entire system” of functioning corrupt. If this tread is not checked by all right thinking people, who sole aim in the uplift and development of Mother India, will in my humble opinion lead to unstoppable downfall of our great land.

As an elected representative, Mr Lobo should have been proactive in getting law enforcement to lay traps to catch the…! The same applies to Mr Nalin Kumar Kateel who seems to have done a ‘La Dawood Ibrahim’ on this case!!! Mr Narendra Nayak we are with you and are confident you will get justice done!!!

There’s a change in the rainfall pattern. We might get the annual ant. ..but not necessarily during the normal period. You are 100% correct when you attribute this change due to rampant tree-felling replaced by ‘concrete jungles ‘ across the length and breadth of the Ghats.

  • From Nelson Lewis on Activists to Lay Siege to MLA's House over Baliga Murder

My dear friends, if Police want to arrest anyone, they can do it without any loss of time. However, I am surprised to hear statements by naive people saying that so-and-so-officer is upright and tough. Well, for the common public he may give that appearances, but at the end of the day he has to carry out his professional and political masters biddings (and cannot act on his own). Otherwise, he will be transferred to punishment postings, harrassed or eased out on trumped up charges. A honest police official does not get President’s and other medals.

  • From Nelson Lewis on Activists to Lay Siege to MLA's House over Baliga Murder

I was a boy, when I followed the fight between Cassius Clay (later Mohammad Ali), when he knocked out the favourite Sonny Liston – the latter had earlier defeated Floyd Patterson. Thereafter, I followed most of his fights, his refusal to draft into the Army to serve in Vietnam (and I believe he had to go to jail for his refusal) and he embraced Islam. From what I heard from Americans, many people took him for a ride by making him release his hard earned money on Islamic causes and, in that way, he lost a lot of money. Well, that is another matter. He is one of the greatest sportsmen to have graced boxing and others were Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, George Foreman, Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier and Larry Holmes. I truly consider him a great boxer and a legend in that sport. This man will have his name etched in history. Mohammed Ali, though you had your human frailties, your achievements are phenomenal and you will not be forgotten by mankind who had the privilege to see your fights with their eyes or through electronic and print media. As a parting gesture, I salute you my friend. May your soul rest in peace.

This is how the Law works. Give a shelter in a shed to a poor guy who stole a Bread, poor guy will be arrested and beaten up for hiding. At the same time You will be arrested for being accessory to the crime. But be a accessory to a wealthy, Politically connected murder accused, no one worries about it. I think Shenoy is not going to be arrested until He gets bail or until He escapes to some Middle eastern country. Protest should be also at District Minister’s House with demands.

Very good report by team Mangalorean. I think it is because the concept of ” accountability” is not enforced on any one( on MCC or on citizens who break the rules of civic sense). If any negligence that harms the interests of public in general incurs a mandatory fine like they have “fine” in the west for not keeping the lawn moved ( cutting ones grass in the front yard)- all these issues can be taken care of. The issue therefore is to work towards accountability and creating awareness that it is an essential element for our progress. I hope MCC can show some ” smartness” in incorporating accountability and thus set a smart precedent towards building a “SMART CITY”.

Wow City!!! Instead of Old Port for Smart City,MLA Lobo can use Arya Samaj road as Example to gain title for smart city. From picture number 13 and on wards are sign of Smart City Contractor Company Jugul. Already a Car and 2 bikes fell in new gutter at the entrance to Arya Samaj Road. There was a” No Park ” sign at that spot in picture number 13 which was installed by Me at my expenses to help Traffic Police and Public. Instead of removing the sign Carefully and Re-installing it,stupid JCB operator destroyed it. This shows how Stupid Contractors are in Smart City. Since 3 months I have requested the Contractor to install it back and still it is not installed . It is time for Traffic Police to file Case against the Contractor for damage to Public Property. I am requesting ACP Nayak to take action immediately
