Mangaluru: It is extremely distressing that in spite of regular cautions in the media, women, especially those senior in age, do not take care about risks involved in wearing expensive jewellery while walking alone in the night or secluded places.

Just when it was thought that the menace had subsided over the past month, a senior woman lost her valuable gold on Tuesday night.

Appi (70), a resident of Bikarnakatte-Kaikamba, had gone to the fair at Adumaroli with her daughter and granddaughter.

She arrived with them in a car and got down at Jayashri Gate to walk alone towards home.

A bike arrived from behind. The pillion-rider snatched a gold chain weighing two and a half sovereign which she wore.

She was caught unawares and the bikers sped away.

She was injured in the eye and she got herself treated in a hospital.

A case has been registered at Kadri police station and they are pursuing the case.
