After nearly 2 1/2 months Praise the Lord has come back on June 13th. Where was the Praise the lord since 2 1/2 months, was he on vacation for the period in Iceland (an atheist country) and sent lucifer (the evil) in the form of Covid19. Covid19 has killed more than half a million people, nobody said Praise the LOrd but when the churches are getting open we say “Praise the LOrd”. Stop being hypocrite. I am watching the lord of his action day by day but I see a country that is dipped religiously sad to say, the cases are growing by nearly 10K every day. It is not the lord but it is our arrogance and ego that is taking a beating in our country.

Schools in the last few years have been acting as an expensive day care center for children whilst the parents were stuck in a pointless job of transposing spreadsheets and look all important in their office. Now that they do not have a job, why bother with the schools. You can day-care your own child instead of expecting the taxpayer to foot the bill.

Concern of worried parents towards their kids is normal. No one under this sun is certain about when this Corona issue will end and when life will come back to normalcy?? We may have to live with this pandemic. Well what can the Educational Institutions do too? They will have to wait and watch until things get clearer I guess. Parents were, are and will be a concerned lot,which is obvious. But being too protective about children is not a good sign in general. What we observe in normal days is parents being too much anxious about kids studies, kids marks and grades. They have hardly bothered to teach kids other basic things at home which are essential in day to day life. Educational Institutions are busy trying to teach kids only books values ant not much of social values. Parents and Teachers will need to act wisely at this time and not just worry about only academics.

The concern of parents are a good sign, and a necessary one in order to prevent the unbridled commercialisation of society. However, is the sentiment strong enough to last, or is it the latest flavour of the Covid season ? With parents referring to their children as “kids”, it seems like today’s children have one major problem. It is their parents. Parents have become so careless and reckless in their ways, that nowadays, they don’t know the difference between their offspring and that of a goat. Can parents be referred to as f**kers by their “kids”? Will that be alright with them ? Parents need to introspect more, than mindlessly going about parenting. It’s the example they set, that moulds the future of society. Attitudes matter. More so, the attitude of parents. Management is not enough, leadership matters. Parenting, simply put, is ‘a duty of personally delivered care’, nothing less. No books or manuals can be written on the entire subject, for sure. Parents needs to apply their minds, not merely use their brains.

Betrayal of the electorate in an election is a surefire way of extinction for a political party. Now BJP can remain in power for some time because they have able leadership at the center. Apart from their handling of the economy I do not have any gripes for now. That said, there were millions of middle class and merchant class voters who had voted for BJP who today feel betrayed when Modi has covertly embraced socialism. This creates a void in the political spectrum and gives rise to another “conservative” party rearing its head in the near future (just like AAP did on the left of the spectrum a decade ago). At the moment our political left is heavily overcrowded (because it’s easy to do politics using leftist ideology). This creates a massive imbalance however. But the long term stability of a nation depends on the balanced left and right, because everyone’s voice needs to be heard. But if one political party tries to please everyone then that also sows the seeds of its own destruction in the long run. It’s impossible to please everyone because we all are unique and yet different. If you go to the social media today you can see the once-hard core BJP supporters have changed their stance. I can almost sense if there was another right wing faction came up all those disgruntled voters would be easily swayed. That would massively affect BJP. Personally I don’t care with that outcome but I can’t resist pointing out what I am seeing. Socialism eventually runs its course when there is no more money left. We see that in US, UK, Turkey, Hungary where right wing has taken over after a long time. What we are seeing today in US or Europe is the final throes of socialism which is fighting for its survival. Moving forward it will be either Stalinist Totalitarianism or total anarchy. Indian politics should wake up to this reality and learn its lessons.

The passing away of Olinda Pereira who was an institution by herself has saddened all of us. My memory goes back to the year 1958 when I came in contact with her along with Late Fr Agneletto SJ. We can never forget her outstanding services rendered to the ecumenical movement in and around Mangalore and all over Karnataka state. Several seminars talks and workshops were organized by her. Excellent article except for a couple of detours. Modi’s past and Post-Godhra etc were irrelevant for the topic. if you are bringing in politics, you missed writing about Indira Gandhi’s emergency misadventures. A very true and sad part is Modi sidelining Advani. But again, this was unnecessary. There were a few more minor detours. leaving out those points would have enhanced the quality of the writeups.

Indian electorate is gullible and clueless. It can not tell apart political left from the right. The present central government won their mandate for their purported right wing ideologies but what it’s doing in its current rule is nothing but socialism which is driving us towards Venezuela. BJP tied up with Fernandes’s Samata party which is a far left radical wing infamous for strikes and yet Fernandes was a bedfellow for BJP till his end. If you are a right wing party you do not call for strikes but that’s exactly what Naveen kateel did a couple of years ago. BJP and Marxism does not go together but Tarek Fatah is a sworn Marxist who is a dear friend of BJP. Indian politics is a joke. Give me the name of one mainstream party which preaches and practices conservative ideology? It’s easy to implement left wing policies because it’s always somebody else’s money which the government uses to buy off the voter through free money projects.

I think it is not accidental that the present central government doing a lot of socialistic ideas. There are a lot of reasons. A couple of strong ones: Having seen from a close quarters, I see RSS-ideological parent of BJP is closer to left than right. RSS emphasis on equality and simplicity, discouraging personal grandiose, giving importance to local as aginst Videshi, seem like more socialistic. An important aspect that I see pole apart from leftists is the religious/cultural aspect. That is why I like BJP. It has best of both worlds.

Majority of the population may have already had the virus come and go and nobody, including the host, would have noticed it. It’s no different than people getting a lurgy every winter. It comes, the body immune system fights it off and it goes. You don’t create quarantine, test etc. How long is it going to take for the country to realise this is all a farce? Are they going to continue to lockdown as soon as they lift it and more arrive from the outside state and we go into a never ending loop? If this continues we will soon have a civil war breaking out because people will get to the street just to find food. I repeat again, if this virus had plague-like symptoms, no amount of lock-down would have contained it and we would have already lost half the population. Indian government should stop listening to the West and their puppet WHO. They are playing their own globalist games – it’s a power-play. They don’t want to Trump coming to power again while the socialists in Europe are losing it due to their decades of mismanaging the EU. They want to put a system in place where people can not get to the street to protest. European banking system is bust. It’s only a matter of time. Why is no one trying to put two and two together?

These people were tested (and incidentally identified as positive) only because they traveled. It is shocking that so many of those people are turning out to be positive. This means a lot of people who are not tested are already positive and we may never know which means we are actually in the advanced stage of community infection.

Talking about this 2000 crore loan, as I said, the collateral is his various real estate assets in India but I am fairly confident the valuation of those assets was when the real estate was at its peak and it was bogus. Now with the oncoming, assured recession the real estate is going to collapse and may come to 25% of its market peak value. So 2000 crore Bank of Baroda collateral might only be worth 500 crore when its auctioned. So Bank of Baroda is going to have to take a massive hit on their balance sheet. The news is that they have already obtained an Indian court order to attach/freeze all those properties. I have never been a fan of booming real estate (In fact I have been its vocal critic for several years) booming real estate gives a false sense of prosperity to the nation and helps crooks get fraudulent loans using that real estate as over-priced collateral. Now banks will get everything they deserve. Chances are that he has taken out similar loans in several other Indian banks too, it’s just that we are yet to hear about them. Banking regulations in India are lax in the sense that it allows banks to conceal toxic loans from disclosure for several years and the public gets to know about them only at the last stages when banks can no longer recoup any money from the borrower. It’s been that way for several decades and our dear Modi-G hasn’t done anything meaningful on that front. Instead his government encourages banks to be reckless because Modi has this bogus 5 trillion dollar economy vision but looking at the way things are going we may indeed get a 5 trillion dollar economy but the currency is going to be Zimbabwean Dollars instead of USD. This pandemic has given a massive kick in the guts to the commercial real estate. Now working from home is going to be the norm. Another bombshell – It has come to light the main accused in NMC scandal is about to default on Rs. 2000 crore loan from Bank of Baroda/Vijaya bank. Pledge/collateral was his Indian real estate. Now he can’t give “fraudulent signatures by rogue employees” excuse, can he? He is in all likelihood going to end up on the streets. Hopefully he has a non-pledged house which is transferred to his kin so he can spend his remaining years in dignity. And he can’t run away to London either because the UK police will welcome him with open arms. As regards the “escape” of this NMC CFO in the first Covid rescue flight, if he wasn’t assisted by the UAE locals in escaping then how come the UAE authorities have not given a press statement or contacted Interpol? This is all drama. In fact the Kerala journalists even contacted the CFO’s relatives to verify the “death in the family” excuse and it turns out to be a blatant falsehood. Nobody in his family had died in the recent past. His mother died years ago while his father is ailing.

The PM’s call was not a Swadeshi Call. It was about buying local. This call was spurred by the rural migration. If we see the light of rural migrants we all get mad. Everyone gets mad at the Government and say Government/s should have handled better. yes, it could have been handled better. But PMs thinking is not ‘I will do this better next time’ but rather ‘what we can do to not get in to such situation’. He definitely meant we should increase our local employment. This is especially true for those areas from where people have to migrate even for a normal Rozi-Roti, and not for a rosy-life! If each area develops a few products based on the local raw material and labor, a lot of people won’t have to migrate. The locals should encourage by buying these products. Once the critical mass of sales is reached, the local manufacturers can improve quality and send it to other regions. This will make the region prosperous too. When this happens, nation becomes self-reliant. Not too many people will migrate or need to migrate. So rather than looking at this as Swadeshi vs Videshi. Look at it as emphasis to local. Whenever you purchase something, think if there is a alternative available that is made locally and by local people. If so, encourage that. If there is no local alternative available, at least some should think if an alternative can be made locally with local material and labor and start a manufacturing company. The local administration and politicians should support this going beyond normal call of duty. Alas, looks like most of our politicians or administrators are taking this as another slogan-opportunity. That is why I liked this article by Anil D’Souza especially the last couple of paragraphs. He has asked thought provoking question if Modi is a changed man. I dont think he has changed but certainly PM’s thinking definitely has been affected by disturbing scenes of migrant labor suffering. So he is sharpening his vision in this direction for a long-term solution as an atonement for the short-term inefficiency and ineffectiveness in handling migrant situation.

A piddly credit card loan not paid up on time can get you banged up in UAE and to say the person at the heart of $4 billion fraud is allowed to walk past the UAE emigration tells you there are far powerful people involved in this scam. This scam goes back by at least 10 years and to say this guy was CFO only until 2017 as a a convenient excuse tells you this is all a hog wash. He was assisted by the local towel heads who are part of this scam. The new NMC board (i.e. the bankruptcy administrators) appointed by UK court reached Abu Dhabi 4 days ago and are in 2 weeks mandatory virus quarantine. After the quarantine period they were supposed to go deeper into the NMC accounts to do forensic analysis. So this NMC CFO escape 2 days ago was well-timed. Now the attempt in the UAE social media is being made to blame modi alleging he arranged for the CFO to escape since Shetty is RSS. Indian government is running a rescue mission of hundreds and thousands of its citizens in the middle of a global crisis. How are they expected to micromanage everything as to who gets to travel? NMC fraud a crime that took place in UAE and the person traveled was at the heart of the scandal. How can he be allowed to travel? For petty bank loan dues I have heard UAE stops people from leaving the country and they were not aware of this guy? The CB of UAE had ordered all the economic departments to blacklist key people of NMC. This guy should have been on the top of their list. How did they left out this guy? Isn’t that far too convenient? CFO is someone who should be interrogated first in a financial scandal engulfing a company. Look at the farce. If this can happen, then I can safely surmise UAE is either a failed state or a rogue state. You can’t say it’s neither. Looks like UAE government wants to cover up this case because their own are also involved in this. They want this case to go away. Only the UAE banks and Western investors and LSE want to go deeper.

However, even a bad poor quality job is approved and accepted by the Ministry of Public Works and the Municipality of Udupi – as those in authority do not walk and use these Box drain footpaths. These Box type drain cum conduit/cable runners have also been constructed near the oldest college in Mangalore near PVS circle. Send your photographer and news team on the Malpe – Manipal highway to check out the quality and reality of the Box drain technology executed in Udupi – these works being undertaken in Mangalore wont be any different! Substandard and inferior in all engineering sense! With MESCOM and BSNL pillars running right in the middle of these modern pavements. Time will tell.

It’s seen in the article that the guar was exhausted before it was darted by the disturbance caused by the people.This can lead to capture myopathy and death of the animal. I know several wildlife vets who have lost their life during this process and commotion created by the public. The police force should be able to control the public. The post immobilisation monitoring is hence very important and vital. The animal should be transported taking all precautions to prevent aspiration and cardiopulmonary failure. Sad that the state is not appointing full time forest vets. See your neighbour Kerala has posted one forest vet per district to take care of their wildlife. Why should Karnataka lack in this regard.

My prediction has turned out to be true – 6 US law firms have filed class action suit against NMC on behalf of the investors who have lost money, to demand compensation for losses due to the alleged securities fraud. This could run into several hundred millions but nobody has that kind of money as NMC already has more debt on its books than what they can handle, let alone compensating investors which means focus will turn on those who had allegedly committed the fraud. Now people alleged will lose their shirts, pants, lungi and everything. India is the safe place for now. But India has strong treaty with UAE where in a decree passed by a UAE court can be legally enforced in India (to even attach assets and hand it over to UAE). For criminal cases even extradition is also in the treaty. More over there will be diplomatic pressure from UK and US as their investors have lost money and importantly UK has lost its image as a prominent investor destination due to the NMC fraud. So, Indian lawyers need to be really creative. First remedy I recommend is to transfer of Indian assets to distant relatives ASAP. And when the extradition summons comes, start something like a chest pain or something to that effect and drag it on in the Indian courts for another 10 years. By then probably it’s time to buy the field anyway. A point to note – A lot of family members of the alleged and those in higher positions of the alleged’s group of companies are inside UAE. Until UAE squeezes the last penny they won’t be able to get out of the country.

Let’s for argument’s sake say what has been clarified so far through the above press release is true but then how do you explain the financial scandal at UAE Exchange/Finablr which is a different entity than NMC? In the last 48 hours it has come to light that there is nearly a billion dollar black hole on Finablr’s books and it was so far hidden from the auditors. Where is that money gone? At Finablr the accused is still the chairman so he can’t give the NMC employee excuse. Trust me, this is a classic 420 case. If the accused has not clarified why he was part of the NMC board until March when he did not have the qualifying stake, how valid is the above clarification? Whatever reported stake was totally misstated to pull wool over investors’ eyes. That in itself was criminal. West will never trust another Indian businessman ever again. Earlier this year the problems in the group started to exacerbate and there wasn’t enough money even to pay the NMC staff salary. That time money was illegally diverted from UAE Exchange (i.e. the money people remit to their home countries). Normally remittance money clears within the same day of the transaction but if you go to twitter today there are people whose money has been withheld without any explanation for more than 2 months now. How does the defendant explain that? One of my distant relatives wanted to use their service in GCC in January this year to make payment to the overseas suppliers but was told the money would be debited from his account immediately but remittance would be done after 15 days. There itself I got the whiff of things being not kosher at the emerald city. Now, the accused is unlikely to ever set foot in the GCC. As I said clearly there are other big local sharks involved in this scam and for their survival they do not want the accused back in the UAE. The lenders and the investors will suffer. UAE may cover it up and people may forget it after some time but UAE has been caught at the worst possible economic downturn. On one hand oil prices have plummeted and on the other, they are fighting the epidemic. This NMC drama was the last thing they wanted. NMC brand is unlikely to survive because if UAE government bails it out then the western investors will file a class action suit for compensation and at the same time the new management will be liable to clear the debt. So if I were to wager a bet, NMC brand will disappear. All the assets could be sold off to condors at bargain basement price. But UAE will lose its reputation and nobody will invest in that country. Just to be clear, I do not have a dog in the fight but my interest is only from the viewpoint of 20000 NMC staff who have been left in the dark about their careers in the middle of the worst economic downturn. Second interest is about the reputational damage this scandal has caused to Indians. Now onwards no Indian will ever be trusted in the Middle East again. In Indians there is total lack of integrity and sense of corporate responsibility. We have seen it times and again, be it Mallya, ILFS, PNB, PMC, Jet Airways, HDIL, Yes Bank Choksi, Nirav Modi, and this is the latest kid on the block. I keep repeating this – we do not have strict laws against corporate malpractice where as in the West such crimes get minimum 25 years in jail. That’s what we are lacking. Punishing one person with 25 years jail terms will bring the rest of them in line. Another thing that I have learnt from this drama is that the so-called “successful” businessmen are economically illiterate. They simply do not understand the business cycle. They think there is never-ending supply of new credit/money entering into the system so all their embezzlement could be tided over. But in economy there are ups and downs. In Buffet’s own words It’s during the ‘downs’ that people who were swimming naked get caught out. That’s exactly happened in this case. They thought the scam could be covered up by continuing to grow the ponzi bigger but trees don’t grow all the way to the moon.

NMC, the company B R Shetty founded was listed in London stock exchange in 2012. B R Shetty was the Chairman of the NMC board till 2017 and played an active role in its management till then. In 2019, the report on non disclosure of $2.7 Bn in debt was published. This is a serious matter as NMC was now a public company with thousands of employees and shareholders. Therefore, I am not sure if Mr.Shetty can feign ignorance of such a huge amount of debt in his company. There is also an allegation that these amounts were used to promote other businesses owned by Mr. Shetty. It is pertinent to note that it was in 2018 that Mr. Shetty and his son launched their financial services firm Finablr and acquired TImesMoney the same year. In the interest of the thousands of NMC employees, its shareholders, the banks and the reputation of India, Mr. Shetty must submit himself to the UAE and UK authorities and be accountable for this financial fiasco which involves $billions of public money.

$4 billion unaccounted debt can not build up in 1 or 2 years. My view is this goes back at least 10 years. No bank will keep mum over billions lent to one entity up until the scam is exposed. No lender puts all their eggs in one basket without there being corruption at the very top. Such massive amounts lent makes an entry in banker’s gazette distributed through the central banks so the whole banking system is aware of the financial exposure. Central banks do these things to mitigate systemic risks to the whole economy. We are talking about an amount which is the entire GDP of some of the tinpot countries. This whole thing smacks of the rot at the very top. I am absolutely certain a few prominent local towel heads are involved in this too. May be it goes back to 10-12 years when they were trying to float NMC on London Stock Exchange. They must have misrepresented/misstated the company finances just for convincing the UK regulator so they could lure the western investors. They must have pocketed the auditors too. They might have started small with the lenders with nice kickbacks (like how Mallya pulled it off) but the ponzi grew to unmanageable levels over time but they felt they were OK as long as they stuck with each other and never revealed it to the outsiders. This muddy waters expose figuratively threw muddy water over the whole scandal and the people involved are now trying to hide by blaming each other. The first thing the accuseds do in such circumstances is to muddy the water (if you pardon the pun!) to an extent the public gets confused. In psychology it’s called the gaslighting. This news article above is exactly that. All said and done our man is in deep trouble. Looks like biriyani in the middle of the desert if he ever steps into GCC. Those who lost money in the stock will bring in a class action suite for compensation. If UAE does not compensate them, then they will not be able to access international financial markets. And now UAE needs that access more than ever. So UAE government can not cover it up period. Let’s see what the UK regulator’s investigation comes up with.

If I were to put a finger on it, I would say it’s a world class heist where many people are involved – the accuser, accused, lender, locals and they all wanted to pull something really big because these people are untouchable in UAE. Without Muddy Waters exposé this would have continued for a while. Listing on LSE turned out to be their undoing as they were subject to public scrutiny. NMC insider leaked the malpractice info to Muddy Waters and then they couldn’t hide it no more and hence started to distance from each other and our man left holding the bag. There is no honour among *******. The clarification above seems too vague and does not present anything other than what a defense lawyer worth his salt would come up with. What doesn’t this letter not clarify about misrepresentation of the stake and attending the board meeting when one was not legally allowed to? That itself is enough to nail the case. This case can be covered up at India and GCC but not in the West because thousands of people have lost money that they had honestly invested in the stock. The regulators in the West will go far deeper into the forensic investigations because they are answerable to investors at LSE or else they will lose their edge. So people can deny and deflect all they want and the sheep in India may buy it but it doesn’t wash in front smart people in the West. Moreover Indian government is still waiting for the investment money promised to Kashmir, Kashi and elsewhere especially when such grand public announcements were made. Until that is fulfilled they won’t care. In UAE government has distanced itself well in advance. SO god only can save the royal family.

Not only MESCOM, even PWD is of the same standard. There was a big TREE in front of my house which was cut in coordination with MESCOM and PWD due to road widening and the root of a tree which was big was left back saying that they will clear later which the SO-Electrical informed me. Now it is more than 5 years in spite of informing the PWD and forest in charge of KAUP / SHIRVA area they have not cleared the root of tree. This is the responsibility of the officers & staff in spite of informing.

If it is true and confirmed that the dead body will not in any way transmit the Covid 19 virus, it would make sense that the hospitals should take the body for their use, for e.g experiments, for students to study anatomy etc. It shall be a win win situations for all. Usually hospitals welcome the decision of the relatives to donate the body of a dead person. Just a thought.
