  • From Naveen Kulal on HELP! Traffic Jams near Schools a Nightmare to Motorists and Commuters

One of the reasons for this mad traffic is that many of the parents take “extra” care by dropping of their kids in their own “big cars”. Imagine what happens when cars in tens and hundreds line up in front of the schools during peak hours? The parents should shun this attitude and teach their wards to use shared transport to school.

In a bygone era, netas, babus and other crooks, scoundrels, sleazy characters would involve themselves in frauds, scandals, financial irregularities and enrich themselves, because they could get the better of the scribes and everything was swept under the carpet. Sadly, in these days of electronic media, who have a long reach and hands it does not take them much time to expose irregularities. They have exposed so many undesirables, that they shiver to face the electronic media and spurn invitations for panel discussions and if they have to send someone, it will be flunkeys, who be panelists, tell lies, beat-around-the-bush and if their parties are in the wrong, they will keep on denying and ranting and not allow anyone to speak. It is nice to listen to Major Gaurav Arya, Defence Analyst, who speaks well, has the right diction and knows his subject well. Then, BJP has Dr. Sampeed Mahapatra. Amongst foreign panelists I like Christine Fair, Husain Haqqani, both of whom give a balanced view and analysis of South Asia and are most hated by Pakistanis for exposing them by being realistic.

In a public place, if there is a commotion, where some sections of people are shouting hoarse, “Chor, Chor,” “W dekho chor gaya,” “See thief is running away,” and finally, you hear, “Boodey ney wo kadki kahansey pata-ee,” you need not rack your head and conveniently assume that all these booing if for one and only, “Vijay Mal-leykey-gaya of Good times,” later “King of Bad time,” now-a-days “King of Fraud and Loot,” and you can see him running away with tail between his legs. He vanishes so fast, that there is hardly any opportunities for people to take his autographs or selfies with him, other than taking selfies of his backside, when he is on the run. If the Indian team was participating in the recently concluded matches held in England, he would be present and come with his full complement of bouncers. These days, it looks that age if creeping on him, because he has grey hair, a tired look, a slump and though he has not lost the swagger and arrogance, he looks very much a scared and tired man, not aware what is store for him in the future.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Father’s role in family very important; Bishop Gerald Lobo

A Father of the family is in fact a real Father of the Community. A father is a leader of the house, and his dedicated leadership obviously spreads to the neighborhood and to the community spread smoothly and quietly without a murmur. When a family prospers well, the community looks upon the family as a role model, and the Father as the head of the household shoulders all the praises and also the burdens. In the Christian World, the role of a Father is indeed unique. Year after year, during the season of Xmas when we recollect the Birth of Jesus in Bethlehem we vividly attribute most of the praises towards St. Joseph for the role he played in taking Mother Mary to a safe shelter where Jesus was born in a humble manger. St. Joseph, although did not live too long to see the welfare and glory of Jesus, Joseph is still revered as an ideal father, a loving leader of the simple household and also a humble carpenter. In America, of course, the role of a Father is indeed unique, but the value of Fatherhood is not highly visible in the mainstream of America because of the history of America where we all came from and established a home that had lot to do with the migration of people from all cultures and civilizations of the world. The value and prominence of a Father is very much appreciated and valued, but the modernization has taken over so many other value systems, and that is sad. Whereas in a country such as India, because of the vastness of our indigenous culture of Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity and Sikhism, our value and importance towards a FATHER is exceptionally great. This value system and importance towards fatherhood also helps us to appreciate the value of democracy and even the family values of India. Thank you, Bishop Gerald, for your initiative in recognizing the Father’s Day in Udipi Diocese. One of these days we are going to visit with you and pay our respects to you for all your Leadership and your dedication to the people of your Diocese.

  • From Lydia Lobo on How relevant are Siridhanyas to diabetics?

Thank you Prof. Nayak, for this one more gem, after the previous one about Plastic Rice. Rice and wheat are our regularly grown grains and are consumed by maximum people in India. They have a specific pattern of land and irrigation method, a cultivation system which the masses have adopted since ages. Converting those damp flat fields to slant dry surface is foremost impossible and secondly it may take a few years, a period during which the supply will cease to take place. Besides, production of Siridhaanya will not match the quantity of rice/wheat because it needs to be newly introduced to farmers who may not take the risk of shifting to a new crop. As we age, our physical activity reduces but we continue to eat the same amount of food that we used to, when were the active grown ups. We forget that our consumption too must be less as our activity reduces which is exactly what is aiding in weight gain as we age, hence some amount of exercise is very much essential. Besides, certain exercises keep our limbs flexible thus joint pains and back ache become a rarity. Instead of going in search of new fag grains, we must get out of our houses and walk to nearest distance than burning the fuel in our vehicles. No, it should not harm our prestige to walk, instead it reduces impending disability. I look forward to more of your enlightening articles.

Why it is embarrassment? Police did what they suppose to do. Keep People away from President, for safety reason. The Photographer should have hung a large Identification Card hanging in His neck. That way everybody would have known He is President’s Photographer. For Public it is a hobby to blame Police for everything. Anything they do is always wrong, but whatever wrong Politician does is always Correct. When a Police parks His bike in” No Park” Zone it is a big story for Newsman. But when Politician parks His Luxury Vehicle on ” No Park” area in the middle of the road it is okay for Media.

I wish to give you a word of advice. If the government is seriously thinking of progressing the country, it should invest a lot on education and get rid of educational trusts run by netas to fill up their coffers. Netas have insatiable and never-ending appetite for money and there is no end to it. Netas consider themselves to be the most superior breed in the country. Very few netas have quality education and majority of them are criminals, have criminal cases, bootleggers, thieves and you name it and you get it. Most of them have one common thread running in them – corruption. Considering the quality of netas, they are no way superior to scientists, professors, teachers, engineers, accountants, doctors or, for that matter, any professional or worker working hard and earning by the sweat of his brow. All people should be thought to THINK AS INDIANS FIRST and after that religion should come later and should be solely confined to temples of worship and homes. If this is done, there is no need for indulging in vote bank politics like quotas for S.T., S.C., O.B.C. Anyone presently getting facilities under this quota should continue getting it, but if government is wise it should put a brake to these quotas and help any Indian who lives Below the Poverty Line irrespective of his religion by way of help in education, loan to start business, discount in transport, etc.

I read a lot, use of my brains for logical thinking and consider politics and religion to be a big, big business involving billions of dollars and if you have gift of the gab, you can fool millions of naive people, who depend on others to lead them by the hand. I am not a guy who gets away by some evangelical preachers’ fiery speeches, because that is all they can do. They cannot perform miracles to provide bread, water, food, shelter or any other help to desperately poor people. At the most, they will urge their congregations to sincerely pray to God and invoke his help. At the turn of this century, I saw Dr. Zakir Naik, the Islamic evangelical speaker talking about the superiority of Islam and denigrating other religions. After I heard him on two or three occasions on the electronic media, I realized most of the people listening to him were semi-literates and just a few educated persons who could be counted on one’s finger tips would ask him some pertinent questions which he would answer, but they would not counter his answers to avoid unpleasantness or arguments. Moreover, with this speeches, reciting the chapters and verses from various holy books (though I cannot say whether he was reciting correctly or bullshitting), he had regimented the hordes of people who had assembled there and these people could turn out to be highly hostile to any sane persons. It was then I felt that this man is a BIG FRAUD and why is the Central and State Governments allowing him to continue with his nefarious activities and not investigating his sources sources of funds/incomes and where he spends the money. Now, he has been exposed and just in India, he has 37 properties. SO SWEET! IN THE GUISE OF SERVING HUMANITY, HE HAS AMASSED WEALTH – LEFT, RIGHT AND CENTRE. There may be fanatical elements, who may have given him properties, especially in Islamic countries. If India wants to become a dynamic and modern day economy and look forward to the future with optimism and confidence, then we cannot run with hares and hunt with hounds. We just cannot encourage divisive elements like Sadhvi Saraswati and she needs to be warned and her wings clipped. Forget about Karnataka, whose Chief Minister, Siddharamiah, appears to be proud, arrogant and, who knows, filled with sleaze, but Manohar Parikkar is a metallurgist from I.I.T., Bombay – doing engineering from this institution is considered to be the world’s best, and how did he permit this lady to make fiery speeches. Then, in Goa one will see undesirable characters like Pramod Muthalik, Pravin Tongadia and the ilk. A sadhu has been made the Chief Minister of U.P. and very soon, one may seen Mohan Bhagwat as the President. Is India being run like a Mickey Mouse outfit? Why did Mohan Bhagwat visit Rashtrapati Bhawan? They say that even beggars have big dreams.

The grounds in front of the schools as shown in the above pictures should be designated as “Safe assembly area”, where children can walk freely before and after classes. Drivers do not follow traffic rules on the main roads. Allowing them inside the school campus will definitely give cause for some disaster. If parents do not co-operate, why blame the school management ? Parents are told to drop their children and move on and not to park their vehicles in front of the school in the mornings. But in spite of repeated requests vehicles are still parked and it is the same parents every time. Parents want to drop their children right in front of the school gate , in stead they can park some distance away. Unfortunately St. Theresa’s school is located at a three road junction. If parents stop parking in front of the school gate, if vehicles coming from kankanady avoid taking a u turn, instead children are dropped/ picked up on the left side and vehicles proceed towards collectors gate back to kankanady, the congestion can be reduced. Finally after repeated requests a traffic police is on duty since the last three days.

This is exactly why I stay away from religious nutcases. India is doomed for two reasons: 1. We believe in too many superstitions and any rational/logical questioning is censored by govt, society and media, Critical thinking is almost dead in our society. 2. Without realizing the real meaning of ‘secular society’, we have been encouraging bad behavior of minority community for decades. This has resulted in equally bad behavior in Hindu community as well.

Ban on Beef is economically unsustainable as long as we encourage our farmers raise more and more cows to meet dairy demands. The dairy industry is the main driver behind over population of cattle. Millions of farmers sell their cows and calves as soon as they see no commercial purpose. This is what provides a continuous supply of animals to meat industry. If Govt is really serious about beef ban, they need to address the supply side of equation. Otherwise, this is just another political circus. Note: I’m fully aware of arrogance and hatred coming from certain quarters of minority community. I wonder if Congress party, its ‘vote banks’ and other pseudo-secular groups are going to accuse US for ‘Hindutva’ agenda! As far as Bhatakla town goes, there were other geniuses from same town who went onto become notorious terrorists. How come one town is producing so many terrorists when much bigger towns and cities are staying normal? How come we have no journalist or ‘investigative’ reporters looking into the reasons behind this Jihaadi factory? Instead, our media and ‘journalists’ try to fool readers by projecting Bhatkala as a normal town with biriyaani shops and normal people. Same way, how come one particular community from kasaragodu is behind every single case of gold smuggling reported at Mangalore airport? We are always proud to share with all our North American friends that we as Indians always have the foresight of predictions of all that is going on in this world, the ever-changing world where new job opportunities need be sought fairly in advance with proper planning. India is a country where we have more than two million young men and women get graduated each year from various Colleges and Universities of a highest caliber. We have to side by side plan new job opportunities for these young and intelligent graduates so that they are all gainfully employed with one trade, one profession or another. “Survival” is the Key to India’s growing population. India is known to be one of the leading countries specialized in the Gems and Jewels and also various hand-crafted jewelry items in the best of designs. Indian jewelers have travelled far and beyond Dubai and the Gulf countries in search of new opportunities of producing best of jewelry to suit the new tastes of the new generations. The World at large has abundance of rich and affluent who have resources to invest in various precious metals as it is one of the safest and best mode of investment for the surplus money that is available for people who are capable and also people who are entrepreneurial. We wish to complement Udipi to establish a Training Center for the Gems and Jewels industry focused on the Export market. The Government of India has always rendered enough subsidy for Indian exporters to take the Indian products and technologies beyond their borders so that Indian professionals can also move abroad and bring the hard currency back to India. Export business is a good business for India where millions of educated people can be gainfully employed and earn more income. Indians being patriotic, most of the Indians (including us) have always dedicated the resources of professionalism and talents for the betterment of India. Thank you, Ms. Nirmala, for all your support and initiatives in promoting a Training Center for Gems and Jewels in Udipi, a City that is known for Temples and Traders who have earned a good name and fame in the way of Trade and Commerce. “Dhanyawadh”.

I do not think much of Pranabh Mukherjee, who is Sonia Gandhi’s stooge. The worst Presidents were Pratibha Patil, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed (of emergency era) and V.V. Giri. I do not know who will be the next President. Today, it appears that R.S.S. Chief, Mohan Bhagwat, met Pranabh Mukherjee. Does this ring a bell? • From Nelson Lewis on Preparation in full swing for President Mukherjee's Udupi, Kollur visit

The mayhem and acts of violence of Divakar Reddy created at the Vijaywada airport in Andhra Pradesh is highly objectionable and deserves to be strongly condemned. He came late to the airport and when the Indigo staff told him that he cannot get a boarding pass for that flight because he had come just 28 minutes earlier for the boarding pass and the aircraft’s doors were closed, he lost his fuse and acted boisterously, pushed Indigo staff and damaged a printer. To his luck, the Civil Aviation Minister, Ashok Gajapati Raju, was at the airport and he instructed the airlines to permit him in the aircraft. No action has been taken against this Member of Parliament and the Civil Aviation Minister for breaking the rules to let this man in the aircraft. Readers have to realize that both these netas are from the same party, i.e. T.D.P. Moreover, as per what we hear from the media, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Chandra Babu Naidu, also from T.D.P., sent another neta to Diwakar Reddy’s house to advise him to not to speak to the media. No disciplinary action will be taken against these netas, because we treat them as a special breed, Almighty God and not public servants. I wish to advise my countrymen that in India, politics is the worst profession, even worse than the oldest profession on earth. Some of the Netas are also crooks, scoundrels, shameless, thick-skinned and lack decency. If you were in the visitors’ gallery in Lok Sabha and took a raw mango and threw it in the direction of where these netas sit and debate, I bet you that on whoever the mango falls upon would 99% be a corrupt neta.

Lalit Modi, Vijay Mal-leykey-gaya (or King of Fraud), that rabid Islamic preacher and evangelist, Kartik Chidambaram, the son of illustrious ex-Home and Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram and Lalu Prasad Yadav have all committed economic frauds and/or broken the law, etc., totalling hundreds and thousands of crores, but they say that they have not done any wrong and if they are in the opposition, they say it is a political vendetta. Our investigating authorities and judicial system is either very slow or do not want to impound their passports, impose a lookout notice and travel ban, thus depriving the opportunities for these undesirables to fly out of cuckoo’s nest and face law and legal proceedings.

  • From Nelson Lewis on Preparation in full swing for President Mukherjee's Udupi, Kollur visit

When one gets into electronic media and goes through various subjects, one learns a lot of things. I was going through an interview of an ex-intelligence officer, who said that it was Mr. Pranabh Mukherjee who instead of vigorously pursuing the case with Swiss authorities to get details of all Indians having slush funds, black monies, etc. in Swiss banks came to an arrangement with them to notify to the Indian authorities only the names of Indians who open accounts from a certain dates. So, all those already having fat accounts were left off the hook. One need not have to rack ones brains to realize why Mr. Pranabh Mukherjee acted in such a fashion. When Swiss authorities refused to cooperate with American government to divulge the names of their nationals having accounts, their account numbers and the amount of monies being held by them in these accounts, Uncle Sam just held all Swiss bank employees as hostages and Swiss authorities succumbed and divulged all information. In short, where there is a will there is a way. Indian netas will always try to hide facts and/or find a way out, simply because they are all corrupt and filled with sleaze. The earlier we realize this, band together and take politician to task, the better it is.

Because of which, the Udupi Municipality, the Udupi PWD, and the Highway Contractor have all suddenly woken up to clean Adi Udupi and Karavali Bi-Pass and give the areas a well groomed cosmetic look, to impress the President and his entourage, which otherwise is in shambles with bad roads, so many illegal eateries and shops and huts, and the helipad grounds full of dirt and shrub and rotting govt.vehicles and motorbikes.

A perfect example about how we abuse our natural wealth. A forest is protected, wild animals are protected but just for namesake. All three in this news are thieves in their own style. Tragic that one had to lose his life and other two will end up in jail. We can’t call their family members to be orphans because all these years the very men raised the family out of income from theft. In other words, the family too is guilty, not victims. Then, who for the law is ?

I do agree with you Ms Lobo. Today the scenario has changed a lot in INDIA also. But for the stigma attached to unwed mothers who give away children for adoption the rest of the procedure has opened up. Adoptive parents do not prefer to hide the facts of adoption from the child & also from the society in general. Being an adoptive parent I know few adoptees going in search of roots after attaining the age of 18 years. In all the cases adoptive parents have supported the children whole heartedly in their quest. But in India the details furnished by the biological parents are totally untrue & the search will not be successful. We have a long way to go to reach the level of adoption procedures followed in developed countries.

At today’s pace in life, even acknowledge existence of such problems is feasible, leave alone raising them in a press meet. Activists like you voicing concern about them makes corresponding officials wake up from their slumber. I have a humble request – please request for a city bus to run from Nantoor side towards Nav-Bharat circle so that people wanting to go to SAC, Bishop’s House, the courts or the students of three major schools at that location can have a commuting mode. In the absence of such transport, all those who come from Kulshekhar side or Bondel side must get down at Bunbts Hostes and need to walk all the way down till PVS Circle. If we observe human traffic both-ways, one can understand why many people wait for buses particularly at Buts Hostel junction. Once again, many thanks for your voice.

This is one of the most delightful message to be placed on record because this is truly a noble task on the part of the Ruling Sheikhs of Abu Dhabi to consider in changing the name of a Mosque in the name of “Mariam, the Mother of Jesus”. It makes the entire Christian world of more than one billion people of the world happy and proud that our prayers are finally being heard. The Ruling family of Abu Dhabi always been magnanimous in their thoughts and deeds as far as the global affairs of the world, particularly the Religious secularism, the Environment, the Renewable Energy, and so many other nobles causes all around the world including the United States of America. The Medical Center of Houston have always remained grateful towards Abu Dhabi because the Sheikhs of Abu Dhabi have given the largest donation for the Research and Development of the M. D. Anderson Cancer Research Center where thousands of patients are treated with the best of Research in humanity. Thank you, Abu Dhabi for your very kind and exemplary gesture towards name the Mosque as “Mary, the Mother of Jesus”. May God take good care of Abu Dhabi and the noble people, and may the two major religions of the world continue to flourish together, work together under the Umbrella of ONE GOD. We are truly impressed with this great message, amidst all the daily trials and tribulations in life. As a humble gesture of gratitude we have decided to visit Abu Dhabi at least for 3 days and pay our special homage to this grand Mosque that has been renamed as “Mary, Mother of Jesus”.

  • From Lydia Lobo on Adopted At 3, Woman Returns From Sweden To See Ailing Biological Mother In India

The transparency of the foreigners who adopt children makes the children aware about their origin. The adoptive parents even make arrangements for the grown up foster son/daughter to go searching for their biological roots. A generosity we Indians don’t have. We hide the fact from the child fearing losing her/him to the biological parents. I am happy for Nilakshi, to have found her Indian family. There can be several reasons for the adoption – none can be undone. Neither the parent who gave away the child nor those who adopted or the child her/himself. At the same time, to realize from which humble belongings you have been lifted up to present state too could be either way. Let them be happy wherever/however they are, there should not be regrets.

This appears to be an entirely man-made disaster. National Highway Authority of India builds the highways (= a lind of development we all want) by cutting through the hills. But, the deep gorges created by the workmen are not covered with something, so the unprotected surfaces cannot deal with the heavy rainfall. This results in landslides. Landslides are very common in heavy rainfall areas. But the Indian designers of the highways do not seem to give much thought to the surfaces of the terrain exposed by them in their work. I am sure we will hear more of such disasters in the coming years. So, ideally people should build their houses far away from the NHAI work. But where can the poor go? Poor will always pay the price for progress.

Human society always had an obsession for vitality. This is true all over the world. From Ayurveda to Chinese herbal medicine, people are always looking for an easy way to achieve health and wellness. Many companies here in USA were forced out of business by FDA for making false claims on their ‘health’ products. Most of them are unscientific and based on no data. In a society filled with superstition, these things become popular really quick. However, trying to link this natural human tendency to ‘Yoga’ lobby is a clear dog whistle for anti-Hindoo groups. After all, it is easier to pick on ‘Yoga’ lobby than ‘peaceful’ groups, right? Oh well…

Sigh… Dear Lydia, I was responding to your earlier assertion that ‘cow’ issue is relatively new and never existed before. You were wrong and this has been going on for centuries. Now, you are changing the subject to ‘supply-demand’!! Well, ironically, we have an area of agreement here. On this forum, I have repeatedly highlighted how over-consumption of dairy products (in the name of ‘ksheera kraanti’) has resulted in a huge supply of cows to meat market. I’ve also pointed out huge hypocrisy of Hindu society in ignoring the ‘supply’ side of this equation. The issue will not go away unless we start consuming less and less dairy products. While I acknowledge ‘supply’ side the issue, I am also aware of arrogance coming from certain quarters of minority community. Their opposition has NOTHING to do with economics of this issue. They seem to be doing this with the whole intention of thumbing their nose at Hindoo community. It goes much beyond Beef. Ask them about yoga, meditation, ‘vande maataram’ or even ‘Udupi temple’ at New Jersey! They don’t waste a second before throwing insults like ‘cult of spirituality’ or ‘false gods’. Sounds familiar?

    • From Lydia Lobo on CM urges Modi to withdraw cattle trade rules

Look, gentleman, its the Hindu society that requires milk based proteins because they depend on vegetarian diet which lacks adequate amount of proteins. The demand for Milk and milk based products to supplement this requirement made a push to produce dairy products. However, the industry did not cease to function, it continues and people do depend on dairies for milk. It wasn’t like that before, when people had cows in their own sheds, they did not have to buy milk nor was there any shortage of meat supply as I explained before. Did we hear of cow thefts when our parents or we were younger ? Besides, its not only Hindus who reared cows, farmers came from all communities who treated their cattle with care, but they were not forced to worship them. Just as today some canine/feline lovers rear their pets and it stays at that – it doesn’t reach upto reverence nor forcing any such feeling on others. One thing let me tell you, when you overdo things, it naturally comes to the attention of people, one such thing is hyping about love for cows. People don’t care to rear a cow but they expect cows to exist and be worshiped ! Its better like having a carved figure and worshiping it – why expect others to have them and you hold it at high esteem ? You don’t care if a cow trespasses or digs through garbage heap for food but the overall expectation is worshiping it ? That is why I said, each family that has reverence for a cow, must own it. No, not worship in the confinement of Gow-shaalas. Gow-shaalas can’t contain as many cows as the number of families in the nation. As for your explanation about belittlement about Hindu lifestyle, I don’t agree with it. Born in India, I do have extreme respect for each and every religion in the country, you can’t generalize it, certainly not. This one way of your sympathy seeking or justifying your fight, I won’t give-in ! Especially when you are not protesting against meat export. Why ? Has the government bridled your vocabulary in that pertinence ?

    • From Lydia Lobo on CM urges Modi to withdraw cattle trade rules

It doesn’t require of me to read a book to understand the matter – its quite simple – earlier there were larger households with a shed full of bovine animals. But as the households split into nuclear families, there are more houses now but not even one cow with a family. This exactly has lead to the panic because earlier, out of thousands animals, aged were released to the market but now not even younger cows are available with a common man. As such, where will the aged come from for consumption ? Did any of you or your parents question what happened to those older animals that were traded at the animal fairs ? They very much knew but did they care ? All they wanted to was get rid of them because neither they produced milk nor were they healthy enough to be used in farm activity ! Those who propagate worship of cows, must sponsor two/three cows per family and then see the reverse situation ! Older animals will be released at regular interval, leaving no time for you to question what happens to those that are released. Its hypocrisy that is going around, not love for a cow. Else, Beef-export would have come to a drastic end in May 2014, not progressed to make India a major exporter of the meat !

Why is India obsessed with COW now all of a sudden ? Weren’t there cows before, weren’t they worshiped before or weren’t they slaughtered prior to this ? Weren’t there cattle fairs at designated locations for centuries so that farmers trade their cattle at the end of harvest season and buy a new pair when rains arrive ? Because that was how much their use was, i.e. use them to aid in farm activities. Once the purpose was done, trade it off so that the family can save on what is spent on their fodder. As for cows the practice was different, yet, they were certainly traded for younger ones once one stops bearing a calf – again, the purpose was same, cow for giving milk for consumption as well as for commercial gains. Why now then, is the matter being blown out of proportion now ?

  • From Confused Desi on Exit Jesus, Enter Krishna! Udupi Seer buys Church, Modifies into Temple

With reference to Jay’s questionnaire: I have always believed that the ethnicity of people and the concept of a ‘nation-state’ are two different things. The concept of a nation-state is a relatively modern phenomenon. In a very few and relatively small parts of the world (like Japan) one could assume that the concept of a nation-state has been there for a couple of thousand years. But in most parts of the world, a nation-state is a relatively new phenomenon. People lived as tribes, with their ethnicity identified by their tribe (primarily), and their linguistic families (at the secondary level). A nation-state did not come into play. This was true for most of the areas in the continents of Africa, South America, North America, and Australia, as well Middle East and several regions of Asia. Older maps talk about the regions divided on ethnicities rather than nation-states. To add to this, most people around the world were illiterate. So writing a constitution, adopting a written legal code of conduct, having a government in the modern sense, etc were out of the question. Hence I could say that the questions that Mr Sagamori put to the Palestinians would be as relevant as demanding of Jains as to why don’t they follow a lifestyle of the Amish. In my opinion, a completely meaningless set of demands. To make matters a little more complicated for the Arabs: most areas, devoid of water, are unsuitable for any agriculture. This forces the Arabs to be on constant move for food for themselves and their livestock. The ‘nomadic’ Arabs are typically referred to as Bedouins. Survival for them was a bigger question than worrying about establishing a nation-state. Sure many got attracted towards the rivers: Nile, Jordan, Tigris/Euphrates, etc. But others kept moving! Most Indians (and Japanese) who live a ‘settled life’ with agriculture do not usually understand this fundamental matter with the Arabs. I can go on and on, but in essence the Arab lifestyle has been, over thousands of years, similar to the lifestyle of native Americans and native Australians: constantly move towards food sources rather than enjoy the luxury of a settled life. Of course, there would have been people specialised in trades like butchers, carpenters, house-builders who must have had some sedentary life. In my opinion these realities must be understood before we demand to know what ‘settled’ history the group (any group) can lay a claim to. As an aside, based on a similar theme, a case known as the “Mabo case” sent shivers down the spine of the entire lot of Australian settlers a few years ago. The case had the potential to unseat the white man from power using, believe it or not, the white man’s law!

Confused Desi. Here is a list of questions by a Japanese Prof. on Palestine. If you feel there were local Arab people, currently called Palestinians the please answer the following questions. A Japanese View of the Palestinians Talk about one picture being worth a THOUSAND words… An interesting questionnaire for Palestinian Advocates By Yashiko Sagamori If you are so sure that ” Palestine , the country, goes back through most of recorded history,” I expect you to be able to answer a few basic questions about that country of Palestine : 1.When was it founded and by whom? 2.What were its borders? 3.What was its capital? 4.What were its major cities? 5.What constituted the basis of its economy? 6.What was its form of government? 7.Can you name at least one Palestinian leader before Arafat? 8.Was Palestine ever recognized by a country whose existence, at that time or now, leaves no room for interpretation? 9.What was the language of the country of Palestine ? 10.What was the prevalent religion of the country of Palestine ? 11.What was the name of its currency? Choose any date in history and tell what was the approximate exchange rate of the Palestinian monetary unit against the US dollar, German mark, GB pound, Japanese yen, or Chinese yuan on that date. 12.And, finally, since there is no such country today, what caused its demise and when did it occur? You are lamenting the “low sinking” of a “once proud” nation. Please tell me, when exactly was that “nation” proud and what was it so proud of? And here is the least sarcastic question of all: If the people you mistakenly call “Palestinians” are anything but generic Arabs collected from all over — or thrown out of — the Arab world, if they really have a genuine ethnic identity that gives them right for self-determination, why did they never try to become independent until Arabs suffered their devastating defeat in the Six Day War? I hope you avoid the temptation to trace the modern day “Palestinians” to the Biblical Philistines: substituting etymology for history won’t work here. The truth should be obvious to everyone who wants to know it. Arab countries have never abandoned the dream of destroying Israel ; they still cherish it today. Having time and again failed to achieve their evil goal with military means, they decided to fight Israel by proxy. For that purpose, they created a terrorist organization, cynically called it “the Palestinian people” and installed it in Gaza , Judea, and Samaria . How else can you explain the refusal by Jordan and Egypt to unconditionally accept back the “West Bank” and Gaza , respectively? The fact is, Arabs populating Gaza, Judea, and Samaria have much less claim to nationhood than that Indian tribe that successfully emerged in Connecticut with the purpose of starting a tax-exempt casino: at least that tribe had a constructive goal that motivated them. The so-called “Palestinians” have only one motivation: the destruction of Israel , and in my book that is not sufficient to consider them a nation” — or anything else except what they really are: a terrorist organization that will one day be dismantled. In fact, there is only one way to achieve peace in the Middle East . Arab countries must acknowledge and accept their defeat in their war against Israel and, as the losing side should, pay Israel reparations for the more than 50 years of devastation they have visited on it. The most appropriate form of such reparations would be the removal of their terrorist organization from the land of Israel and accepting Israel ‘s ancient sovereignty over Gaza , Judea, and Samaria. That will mark the end of the Palestinian people. What are you saying again was its beginning

There is a mention by Jay that the land where Jesus was born was called Judea. Possibly true, from a Jewish perspective. But the local Arab people, currently called Palestinians, and most likely illiterate at the time, were also living on the land in large numbers. In fact, the place where Jesus was born, Bethlehem, is not a Hebrew word. It is an Arabic word “Beyt Laham” – meaning, the house of meat. Possibly there was a butcher’s place many years before the village came up. So Arabs have had a long affinity to the place, no matter what the community was called.

I’ve always maintained that religious minorities in India are more communal and toxic than majority Hindus. The responses to above report, ranging from condescending to offensive, prove my point beyond any doubts. One reader very astutely points out the ‘missing safety harness’ while another reader brands hindu religion as ‘cult of spiritualism’. In fact, the same reader declares Europe as the birth place of Christianity!!Unbelievable!! Who cares about reading and history, right? Smiles….Foreign masters should be really proud of what they have managed to accomplish!! Look – I have no horse in this race. I consider religion as one big scam. Every religion is after money and power. I never go to any houses of worship. I have zero interest in visiting this Udupi temple. However, it is important to point out a few things to ignorance people. The decline of religion in Europe started in 15th century. In a strange way, it started with people like Henry VIII and Martin Luther rebelling against Vatican. Once Europeans started questioning the religious authority, it opened up great new ideas resulting in modern democracy and scientific revolution. Unfortunately, this still hasn’t happened in most of the world, including India. Religions continue to keep most of the population ignorant. This is why almost all of scientific innovations come from less-religious Western societies. As this article rightly points out, religion is on decline here in USA. Many churches are sold for various purposes. In fact, many Mosques were built after buying unused Churches. This is a free society and nobody stops you from legally buying a piece of property for your purpose. Trust me – this is far better than invading a country, destroying their places of worship and build your own on the top!! This is year 2017. Do you know when first churches were built on Indian soil? Think about it before lecturing Hindoo population. Hindoo population is the least troublemakers here in West as compared to other minority communities. Instead of admiring good behavior and tolerant nature of Hindoo population, I see hatred coming from usual suspects. This is really unfortunate and embarrassing.

While it may be part of the tradition back in India, USA (like all Western countries) takes occupational health and safety very seriously. So, it may be in the interest of all users of the facility to takes the safety matters seriously, not only to save their own bones but also save the committee members from being heavily fines/jailed for negligence. Please consider this matter as a suggestion from a safety practitioner. Congratulations on the great job of putting it all together.

It’s been about 3 decades that I know Kishan, right from his body building days. Time has flown by. But, not much has changed in him. He still looks, talks and acts like the guy I knew 30 years ago. He’s very well known for his wit, grit and determination. If I ever noticed anything different is that his wit has slightly faded away. Rest is still the same. He always believed in achieving milestones in a clinical way. There’s no rush or urgency in his approach towards reaching his goals. Yet, he reached these milestones effortlessly. It indeed is a pleasure to see him grow to be a role model for many young and old people in Mangalore and elsewhere. I really feel proud to say that I’m one of his good old buddies from yester years. Keep doing what you’re doing Kishan and make a difference in your and other peoples life. Guru word suits you well. Best Jay Menezes

  • From Nelson Lewis on Girl Attempts Suicide following Sexual Harassment from Three Youth

Since independence, India has had several Law Ministers and not one of them has been a dynamic personality, because they have not changed and streamlined India’s antiquated and creaky laws. Nor has any Law Minister tried to study why cases go on for years and what should be done to correct the situation. Many Indian jails are filled with prisoners, who do not have anyone to bail them off and are languishing there since years and quite a number of them have been arrested on mere suspicion or due to vendetta. However, instead of doing something positive, Law Ministers come, warm the chair and go. It is the Law Minister’s responsibility to ensure that all rape and molestation complaints are accepted by the police, the victim sent to the hospital for medical examination and simultaneously a F.I.R. registered and the culprits hunted down, arrested and prosecuted. If the rape case fails due to investigation officer’s improper investigation and laxity , then he should be made accountable and adverse remarks should go in his personal dossier, so that he is eased out of job or promotions stopped. Indian Police right from constable to D.G.P. should be trained and/or advised by British Police trainers in regard to how to address people, behave with them, how to investigate and interrogate, how to confront terrorists themselves without seeking military commandos help, etc. In Pakistan’s terrorist attack on 26/11/2008, Bombay Police were ineffective and Naval commandos had to be helicopter-dropped. The blame for the lack of preparedness should have fallen on Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chief Minister and Hassan Gafoor, the Commissioner of Police at that time. However, the incompetence of the Chief Minister was rewarded by he being kicked up as Central Minister. Finally, once a witness gives evidence, he should not be allowed to change it or act hostile in the Court’s witness stand, simply because he has been bribed or threatened. In the latter case, he should be able to get protection under the Witness Protection Programme. A man committing rape should get severe punishment depending on the gravity of the situation, including imprisonment for life or death sentence. If raping has to be completely abolished, then it should be public execution by firing squad – a strong message to rapists and molesters.

Ms. Lydia Lobo, Though I am not an authority on religious matters and do not go around claiming to be religious, nevertheless I consider myself to be God-fearing, a fact that dictates my life and actions, I wish to correct you. Do agree with you Nelson, no denial with the fact that Jesus Christ’s birthplace is Palestine. However, official reference to Christianity is Rome, not Jerusalem – why ? • From Lydia Lobo on Exit Jesus, Enter Krishna! Udupi Seer buys Church, Modifies into Temple

Though the birthplace of Christianity is Europe, it gradually migrated to countries in the East/West. Over centuries, the faith in Europe/America too began to diminish. This lead to a panic hence the religious authorities began to import preachers from the poor countries where the faith had migrated. How long will the poor continue to send their sons/daughters as priests/nuns ? Because, honestly, the genuine call to work in the Lord’s garden may have been just 1%, the remaining 99% were the poor youth enticed by education. As generations grew up and poverty overpowered (by now educated/working adults), the number of children in the households too reduced which resulted with drastic reduction in the number of poor opting for the service. One recent sign of low number of migrating priests/nuns is the robotic priest in Germany. As for the congregation, younger generation denied existence of God, embraced atheism and then got enticed by cults of spiritualism. Under such circumstances, it is obvious that Churches in the West go empty. The newly established cults took advantage of the situation because they needed a place to assemble and the price wasn’t an obstacle with millions flowing in as donations. On the contrary, in their own land they brand such transition as an evangelistic act, therefore, impose ‘Ghar-waapasi’. I only hope that they don’t demand to ban beef in the West too !

In the Political Advertisement of Elected Officials, everything is mentioned except how much of Corruption that Politician involved is not Published. They are hiding it from Public. During last Election time 3 high mast street lights were installed in Neermarga-Adyar Padav Area. One near Neermarga Church, second one is near a Temple and the third one is near a Mosque. Sole purpose of this is to get Votes for Congress from 3 Communities. I have questioned the purpose of this with then elected Member of Zilla Panchyat of the Area. But He had no answer. Hardly anyone moves around here after midnight other than DEAD SOULS of illegal People. But 12 Lights are burning sometime till 7 am. Final result of this Corruption is that Congress got Votes and We the Public got the Bill from Mescom. This is another form of publicity just as advertisement. As far as I know, hampanakatta, pumpwell and PVS circle are in the heart of city. The amount of filth and garbage found right in the center of city is disgusting. What’s more disgusting is the absence of politicians. With the exception of Capt. Karnik, they seem to have no time or interest for any participation in these events. They have all the time for ‘guddali pooja’, ‘udghatana samaarambha’ and beautification projects. Somehow, they are too busy when it comes to real action and work. People are not fools – We notice everything.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on St Aloysius PU Science Block Inaugurated

Very very pleased to read that Rev. Fr. Santosh is now actively involved in the Science related Educational activity at St. Aloysius College, Light House Hill. Fr. Santosh is a very intellectual individual, and his contribution in any kind of Social, Religious, Educational and even philanthropic will be very valuable and beneficial. The discipline of Science in the Educational curriculum of India is as important as the discipline of Mathematics, History and Geography. Indian students who have gone abroad in pursuit of their higher Academic Education have prospered with flying colors. Indian Scientists and Engineers have earned high reputation specially in America, many of whom are quietly giving their talents unto others and bringing the National name and fame. It is a pleasure to note that St. Aloysius College is now expanding their Science discipline with larger facilities for ever-increasing students, and we wish them best of success that will benefit the students as well as the Institutions.

  • From Joe D'Souza on Caution! There's a Banana Tree Grown Right in Middle of the Road?

Vana mahostava is already begun in Bikarnakatte Ward. Mayor told Us that 1500 saplings are going to be planted and now only 1499 are left to be planted. I thought the hole on the ground was to repair Water leak. I did not know it was for planting a Banana tree!!! It is already 3 weeks since this hole was dug to repair a water leak and the pit was dug up in middle of Highway. I had called to Mr Naresh Shenoy, head of Water Dept. and informed Him of the danger. He promised to take care of it. Three weeks later instead of patching up the hole,Banana tree has come up in that hole. Until the death of the Young girl at Toll Gate, this hole was open and almost 6 inches deep and 3 ft.long plus 2 ft. wide. Soon after the Girls’ death Banana plant has come up. If not another death was about to happen. Then City would have to build a grave Stone on that spot because it was inviting a death. Cheers to Corporator of the Ward for for saving the Environment with green revolution. Soon plate full of ripe Bananas.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on MCC to Plant 1500 Saplings on World Environment day - Kavitha Sanil

Thank you, dear Mayor Kavitha, for your wise leadership and your active participation in planting new trees in commemoration of the fast approaching “Vanamahotsava” season in and around Mangalore. If required, we must dedicate this day as a optional holiday so that people can gather together and see in which way they can plant a new tree or sow a new seed in order to utilize the space available so that the new plants and also the new seeds sprout into healthy plants and trees in the days ahead. Planting of the trees and nurturing each and every plant to grow and prosper is part of the culture in the Western world because not only these trees provide beauty and shade to the environment but also help the global climate and also beautify the land. As and when any new highway or skyway is designed, while the construction is in process the City or the County devotes their time and budget to plant new trees that keep growing faster than we think and bring added beauty to the entire area. The utilization of our Monsoon season with a continuous rain for months is such an ideal situation for us to plan and conserve the rainy water thru so many ways of new technologies and innovations that are ahead of us. Storage of surplus water is as valuable as storage of any other ingredients. Drainage of rainy water into the wide ocean should be a history of the past. We have to find ways and means to preserve our water and use the surplus water of the rainy season for a better cause.

Nice article, dear Rachitha, and well timed so that everyone, particularly the young men and women read the message carefully and digest the contents in the way they are meant to be. Being a Professor at Roshni Nilaya Institute obviously you will have the first hand opportunity to share the contents of this article to all your students and also to all your faculty members so that the valuable message on instant gratification is well understood and appreciated. If possible, topics such as these should be addressed before a Town hall gathering so that you may be able to invite students and faculty members of many other Colleges and Universities and debate the entire topic on a broader scale. These kind of topics are although commonly known to many yet people are hesitant to raise them thru a public debate and exchange various ideas and solutions for future action. We had started a Group called The International Institute for Public Policy in order to specifically entertain new topics such as these that are very important to be discussed thru an established Forum and spread the message across to many other Educational and Social groups for eventual implementation on the final conclusions. That was the purpose of creating the International Institute for Public Policy. I had selected Ms. Anita Cordeiro to lead the IIPP Forum but somehow due to the fact that Anita got more deeply involved with the Toastmasters movement our IIPP Group was set aside for future use. I strongly encourage you to capitalize on issues such as the one you have tastefully elaborated, and I am prepared to discuss with you further as and when the time is convenient to you. Meanwhile, I certainly appreciate your concerns and curiosities on the growing situations that effect our society with the changing times. I wish to congratulate on the topic that you have raised and I am prepared to leave this topic open for further dialog. Many thanks and kind regards to you.

Mr Alfred and Mangalorean.com, Thanks to You for openly talking about the fraud and Corruption going through “Smart City”. You keep a Box with a Sign reading: PLEASE DROP YOUR DONATION: No one will drop a Rupee. But keep a Idol of God behind the box and wait-You will be seeing that box will be filled with money to the top. No one is questioning where this money goes to whose Pocket to fill. Same way they needed an Idol behind their agenda. So they created an Idol called “SMART CITY’. With this “Smart City” plan they can fill their pocket with fake projects. I am sure many of you know that there was an accident at Mallikatta a few years back where a Young Man from Pinto Lane got killed due to the negligence of MCC. Road near Kalyana Mantap was cut and left with about 6-inch dip. I felt this trench was inviting death, I met the Mayor and also met Commissioner at that time. I had also pressured Mayor about the situation along with an Engineer. But none of them gave a Damn about the Risk to the Bikers. I told them on Monday and this innocent Young Man died within 3 days after my request. Alfie, this is the same case now with this Young Lady’s death. You wrote Article with warning words. But the MCC did not understand the Language. I have requested Mayor Kavitha regarding 3 Issues of danger to Public. 1. The road called Shiva Padav Road in front of Sacred Heart School in Kulshekar, has more than a dozen Drain Manhole Covers dip of least 4 to 5 inches. This happened when resurfacing of the road was done some time back. Mayor went through that road for a function organized by locals for Election Victory. But She did not see it at all. So I saw it when driving on that road, a Rickshaw bounced in that Hole in front of me. I had requested Mayor 3 weeks now and no single action has been taken till now. Her action may happen when some Child falls of Rickshaw and dies. 2. I have informed Mayor regarding the footpath in front of Kudmul Ranga Rao Hostel-PVS Building and Royal Mansion Building. Many People fell into the pit at the end of the footpath next to PVS Building. Traffic West Police are the witnesses. This happened many times in front of them. Even a businessman called the Mayor to inform Her about the Tragedy. More than a week now and nothing has happened. I have spoken to Mr Vinaya Raj, Corporator of that area more than 3 times and no action until now (2 weeks now) 3. A Chamber Cover near Arya Samaj Road, Kadri Road near Biryani Paradise is Bent and causing unbearable Loud Noise due to the jumping of the Cover Panels. I have informed 24×7 line of MCC regarding this Problem more than 5 times. Then I spoke to Commissioner once with the photo. Then I spoke to Commissioner’s P.A. Mr Mohan more than 6 times and met him 2 times. Then, at last, I spoke to Mayor Kavitha more than 2 weeks back and until today, 31 st May 2017. nothing is done. Maybe waiting for Death or Injury. This is Very “SMART CITY!’

The deaf ears of MCC are not listening the cry of their own citizens. The monsoon is on your door step and still the manhole work is not carried out in spite of articles in media as well as news papers. One can imagine whether anyone from MCC is taking responsibility for the tragic death already occurred and which may occur in future? Who has to bell the Cat? local corporator, engineer, Mayor, or MLA? Similarly the Nanthoor junction has been installed with signal lights a year ago But still they are not operating. Poor 2 or 3 policemen manning the busy circle whole day causing restlessness to the public. Who is paying for the loss of time and fuel when you are in a queue to proceed through this junction sometime 15 minutes to 30 minutes. Can anybody takes the responsibility for such a negligent act of MCC? God may save our politicians irrespective of party.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on 'Parents are Best Teachers'- Prof. Dharma at Heera Int'l School PT Orientation

Parents have a tremendous role to play in the upbringing of their children from the very beginning of their children’s life. This role becomes stronger and stronger when a child grows up from the elementary school to the middle school, the High School and then the College and University. As the parents watch their children grow from stage to stage, the parents can remain younger and younger because they watch their children grow and give them a hope of a bright future. Majority of the children in India grow up with a sense of progress not only in their studies but also in their overall behavior in life. Bringing up a child in line with the other children – both rich and poor – is not an easy task in India. As a child grows up with all the variety of other children from different faiths, different languages and different ethnic origins, they come home with lots of input for their parents to listen and learn. It’s a crucial role that every parent has to go thru. The more cautious the parents are in teaching their children good values in life is to the mutual advantage of all, but the situation is not as easy as we think. The most important thing that any parent can interject with their children is the spirit of acceptance to recognize who they are and what they are. The parents also have to influence all their children to respect their teachers and honor their teaching methods howsoever difficult and different. The love and respect between the student and their teachers is wrested solely in the hands of the parents. The children, regardless of their performance in school, must be encouraged and motivated to do their very best, and whenever and wherever possible, a child should try and help other students when they need the help. This is the most important role a child should learn from the very start. Whatever news a child brings home from school, the parents have the right and privilege to encourage their children to be empathetic in their every day life. We are proud to admit, that regardless of how poor our parents were, we can never forget the upright way our poor and simple parents brought us up with good values, which values we have embraced from the very start of our life, and these values we lovingly passed on to our two sons who travelled to six countries and seven cities along with us and have us the joy of their success in life. What a lovely blessing to recollect our humble upbringing in life as students that we passed on as humbly and lovingly to our children. The secret of success worked – it was contagious but it was a good transition.

I fully concur with Mr. Joe D’Souza regarding the whistle blowing by the conductor’s. Whether boarding/alighting the bus, the high decibel shrill whistle vibrates the ear-drum almost to a shattering level, which may cause severe damage. This need’s to be stopped as soon as possible. As a suggestion, it would be a good idea if a bell system is followed as in Mumbai Best buses. Secondly, the conductor’s are downright rude and arrogant and lastly while boarding/alighting, the passenger’s have to literally jump in and out of the bus because the conductor’s do not give sufficient time in this exercise, which could lead to a fall and thereby injuring oneself. From my experience, bus travel in Mangaluru seems undoubtedly to top the list in unsafe travel.

Transfer of Priests from one Parish to another is a difficult and painful task on many occasions. As much as the Priests become acclamatized with the parish the people of the Parish also become adjusted and the life of the parish becomes a pleasant place. But we have to take the transfers in a positive sense and must appreciate that a timely transfer of a good priest to another Parish can bring multitudes of positive benefits to each Parish. Priests moving to different parishes bring added benefits of their individual talents and expertise. A Catholic Diocese has an important role to play in India due to so many genuine reasons, and we wish each and every Priest best of luck in their new assignments. A Parish Priest is as important as a LEADER of any society, especially in the secular country such as India where a Parish priest is closely integrated into a mulli-cultural where his Leadership is equally valued.

We need as in the public after paying taxes, needs the entire corporation account audit to be made public. Uneducated people working there because of corruption. I was there couple days back and I had to literally spell Thanking You to the typist. Seriously Smart City going Crazy City.

“it is terrorism!” – Report quoting Dr.Bhat. Well, it’s very true that this is terrorism. Using force to intimidate is terrorism. Then there are people who passively support this terrorism for reasons clear to educated readers on this forum. If you want proof, just look at the condescending comments by one SAM, reluctance by our media to name the culprits and media’s failure to hold state govt responsible for failing law and order situation. If it was BJP rule with culprits belonging to majority community, we would have seen very different coverage by media!! Unfortunately, any attempt to show truth is seen as ‘hate speech’ while fake-outrage is seen as ‘secular’. In the absence of fear, no wonder these incidents are taking place in our city!!

It was interesting to read a part of the article which appeared on 10 Jun 2010 and appreciate the courage of people of Mangalore who withstood a tragedy of a mass scale & remember all the people who were part of the rescue effort “Does it take a tragedy to unite a town? It appeared so, in the aftermath of the Air India Express plane crash that took the lives of 158 people on May 22—when an army of locals trooped in to clear the debris and pull out the bodies at Bajpe; when benevolent taxi-drivers readily ferried people from one mortuary to another; when relatives drew courage from total strangers to pull aside the shroud on their dead; when they broke down on the shoulders of volunteers, not knowing how to begin identifying the charred bodies. Even when relatives from two different communities lay claim to a single body, Mangalore seemed to be putting behind its recent history of communal frenzy. The October 2006 riots, the September 2008 church attacks, the January 2009 pub attack and many other incidents in between and after seemed a distant memory.”

What a comforting feeling to realize that the authorities are thoughtful enough to gather together at the site of the air tragedy that took place seven years ago so that the victim’s families are assured that we remember the sad incident and that we are here to console one another. These kind of gestures are extremely noteworthy, and these kind of gatherings render consolation that the entire community joins the victim’s families sad moments. Keep up the good work, Mangalore, and may you all enjoy continued safety in all that you pursue in your daily life of mobility in Mangalore.

Ohhh…even Doctors came to the road to protest, its shame on dignified city like Mangalore. Because of few culprits, it is not good to take a march on road by closing the medical services to common people. Anyhow, Police case already been registered, it’s up to the police department to take action to prevent such untoward incidents in future. Doctors should be spared to protest such a way by disturbing the traffic and normal human life. Doctors just concentrate on how to save lives of human by being generous not stingy. We know it is a respectable profession, with hard work and commitment only a person can become doctor, that does not mean that they have to throw away the ethnics to make money. We are not generalizing but due to some mean doctors, whole fraternity is blamed. We condemn the attack on Doctors.

It’s truly great in having introduced KSRTC local buses that are new, comfortable, and less crowded, when compared to other local private buses, that are poorly maintained, drivers and conductors have no ethics at all, and most of all they stop the bus anywhere, load the bus to any amount of people, and driver the bus recklessly, as there is no law and order for them. Why don’t KSRTC build covered bus stops at 500m distances so that ladies, children and older people can sit and await a KSRTC bus that has intervals on some routes as long as 45 min. Also, at the KSRTC Udupi Bus Stand, benches with shade must be provided for travellers awaiting a bus, and the entire bus stand must be fenced to keep those labour class drunkards and the liquor vending bar behind. The area in the vicinity of the City bus stand must be cleared of all those illegal shops/stalls, and those labourers who crowd this area. All of it must be banned and a law strictly implemented.

Mr Alfie,I told you before and I am tellingYou again that getting done anything through MCC or Panchayath is like Dog chasing the tail to catch it. Look at the water tankers filling the water near Kadri Kambla. Follow those tankers to find out where they unload that Water. Then take a sample of that water in a very clean Sterilized bottle. Take it to a Lab where they do Water Testing. Then only you will along with Public come to know what it contains. Also try to find the Bacteria Count such as E-Coli in water, because very close to these wells flows a large Drain(Near Kambla Apartment Buildings) which contains Human waste from Kaibattal – Kadri Temple area. Recently I took Mr Madhu Manohar to show drain water over flowing on the road where little Children walk in it. Contact the owner of Shivabaugh Restaurant to find out the Truth. This water enters the drain that flows near Kambla. Also test for Dioxin content in this Water, as Car Wash Waste Water flows into the Creek close to these wells. This chemical causes Cancer. I have told Health Dept. and Mr M. Shetty has seen it almost everyday. So We have Phalguni In Mangaloe City. Mr Jagadeesha is not serious about problems. On His way to His house in Balmatta,I have installed “NO PARK” board for His benefits,so that no vehicles will block the road. But everyday 3 to 4 vehicle park there and He do not even take action on these vehicles. So Amen to ?

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Varieties of Jackfruits and Mangos to be Exhibited During Halasu and Mavu Mela

Exhibition and/or Melas are essential in India where we have diversified topics to share and diversified products and services to display for the good of mankind. The exhibition encourages people to come forward and show to the world what we have to offer and why do we offer to the public. Our products and services have to be shared with others so that others get to know what we have and much can we all patronize so that the products and services may flourish in the market. Jackfruits and Mangoes have a great deal to contribute in the Agricultural and Horticultural segment of our life. Each soil has a different product to offer, and even the shapes, colors and tastes of a fruit differ. Strange as it may sound, but that’s how God has gifted us different climates, different soils and different means of producing our agricultural resources for the common good of mankind. Recently, during our visit to India, we visited various “Santhes” and we were amazed to witness so many wide varieties of agricultural products that were displayed in a wide area of rural farmland. So many fruits and vegetables were displayed in a four-acre land under various tents, and it was amazing to witness the volume of farm products that were carted to the “Santhe” for the benefit of the neighboring community. This is the way to help our “Panchayat” and this is the way to encourage our farmers to produce more and produce better at reasonable prices. This is the beauty of a community that a rural village is proud to display, and this is where we as citizens have a duty to help and patronize.

Most of India gets heavy rains during monsoons, which flows away as waste. Come summer, then we cry about water shortage. Educated netas, preferably technocrats (and not babas and swamies), who are capable of writing fluently both in English and mother-tongue should be sent to Israel to study water harvesting and irrigation techniques and submit reports, technical drawings and photos. Israel are also leaders in solar technology and Indians can extensively tap this source of energy. Water problems can be solved easily.

  • From Nelson Lewis on Muslim community offers Prayers for Abundant Rains

The problems with Indians is that most of them are incapable of thinking and do not possess fertile imagination. That is why netas, godmen, swamis, maulvis and others take them for a ride with the gift-of-their-gab or showmanship, viz. Lalit Modi, Vijay Mal-leykey-gaya, Zakir Naik etc. When things get heated up, these scurry to England, which has gained a reputation for being a haven for undesirables. Again, they get carried away by Bollywood stars (none of whom have won any international awards) or cricketers, who are practitioners of a sport that is actively and extensively played by just eight countries. We have to respect any hardworking person, be it labourer, welder, electrician, mason, engineer, scientist, civil servant (which is called the dignity of labour). Their contributions are no more or less than a Hollywood star or cricketer. In fact, these people are the unsung heroes. These days, I feel sick to see an “old fart”, a film actor of yester-years, shamelessly advertising products and services on the electronic (and probably also in the print media). Why cannot those advertising products give opportunities to many young or fresh faces and pay a fraction of what is being paid to this “old fart”? The more the people get opportunities to model products, the better it is. Keep an annual ceiling on advertisements to any given person, so that he does not end up being a mercenary. In India, Sachin Tendulkar is treated as Almighty and for what? There are scores of batsmen in the history of this game with much healthy batting averages which are above 53 and ends up with 99.94. Immediately after Sachin Tendulkar retired, Jacques Kallis (an all-rounder) and Kumar Sangakkar (a wicket-keeper) retired with batting averages of 55 and 57 or 58. So, is Sachin Tendular superior to these two who were not in the team as specialist batsmen, but one who could bat a bit. Many legends got phenomenal averages batting under adverse conditions: bad and unpredictable pitches, facing barrage of bouncers and beamers without body protection, they played not for money but for the prestige of playing for their country, travelled by trains and ships (later air), had to depend on some other jobs for a living, as not much money could be earned by playing cricket, there were no sponsorship, endorsements and free gifts.

  • From Truth Seeker on

Finally we have someone who is not afraid to admit the reality and challenge his own community. One doesn’t have to be a genius to figure out the crime issue he has pointed out. Our media and stenographers are a bigger joke than our clueless politicians. Muslim community is the victim and they have suffered enough in the hands of certain political parties and lazy media. It’s important that our society encourages everyone to come forward and progress in life.

  • From Truth Seeker on Keeping the City Clean RKM completes 381 of 400 Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyans

381 abhiyans? What a wonderful accomplishments by these guys!! Meanwhile, there is still no sign of some elected reps and some of the institutions (who brag about spreading education and social work!). Yes – so much for lecturing on cleanliness and secular values that we hear from these usual suspects.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Diocese of Mangalore holds Centenary Celebration of Fatima Apparition

Our Lady of Lourdes as well as our Lady of Fatima have played an important role in the social, educational and religious role of Mangalore. Christian families have devoted great deal of time in various adorational and spiritual activities thereby creating family as well as community unity in and around Mangalore. We have never had the opportunity of visiting the Thannirbavi Church but we shall certainly do so on our next visit to Mangalore. We being in the neighborhood of Fatima Retreat House, we have always been closely attached to the Retreat House and all the religious and recreational gatherings the Fatima Retreat House has conducted ever since the inspection more than seven decades ago. Lady of Lourdes and Lady of Fatima have taken good care of our town of Mangalore that has turned into a small and vibrant City where Education is thriving and the society as a whole is moving in the right direction. Our faith in Lady of Lourdes as well as Lady of Fatima have rendered a special thought in the minds of so many non-Christians to realize the depth of our faith and devotion towards our dear Mother. Our thanks to the Mangalore Diocese as well as the Jesuits who have given us a strong belief in our faith and our dedication to life. Today is a Mother’s Day and what else would please our Lady of Fatima that we are celebrating the hundred years of apparition that took place in Fatima at Portugal where we have spent considerable time in praying, praying for our family, our community and our country so that the value of secularism will continue to play an important role in India.

  • From Henry James on A Friend You Can Bank On'? VBRA Oppose Change of Vijaya Bank Logo

A few years ago even Syndicate bank had changed their logo from the Alsatian dog to Zenia flower. The grapevine was that the management had sent the dog on forced Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) to limit the liabilities on the bank. Where was PETA then?

  • From Richard Dsouza on MPEDA to hold Aqua Aquaria India 2017 in City from May 14

Why boast of being largest exporter of Shrimps to Europe and USA when one cannot see or easily afford buying shrimps in India. India should stop exporting fish and other food produce, so that all Indians can easily afford good and nutritious food. The government is only interested in export and foreign exchange earnings whereas the people have no fish or food one can easily afford. Indian origin food is sold cheaper in foreign countries than in India – tea being one big example. India should focus on exporting engineering goods and electronics – where export is sadly very poor as compared to China, Korea, Bangladesh.

  • From Alfie D'souza- Team Mangalorean on C D'Souza (81) Kulshekar

As a member of PUCL, when he was healthy Casmir D’souza had been very much in touch with me in contributing few articles pertaining to public grievances- but later when his health worsened he stopped sending reports. But twice I had met him and discussed various civic issues, and his ideas were worth implementing. My message to the bereaved family of C D’souza- At this hour of sudden death of loved one i want to share my heartfelt CONDOLENCES with you. Let his soul rest in PEACE in the feet of ALMIGHTY. Have courage to face the situations and we are all with you in sharing your irreparable loss, which no words can fill in. We all pray God to give You the strength. When we loose such a special person in our life, time seems to stop. However, it is important that we start to live again with a smile on your face, so that we can make his soul happy, as he is still looking at us even if we can’t. May His Soul RIP!

Mr Alfie I have caught 2 pythons near Your house in Souza Lane Kadri and handed over to Pilikula Park. One was 10 ft. and other was 8 ft. I have also caught a Cobra inside Lobo Prabhu Court Building and another at Ligoury School, Neermarga. Every one do not have talent nor the courage to do this. I have done this since 12 years old Boy. Most of it done near Kadri Kambla. They are also God’s Creations. Should not harm them.

  • From Joe D'Souza on Excuse me, Mayor! Why Allow Flex Banners of MLC, MLA, Deputy Mayor..?

Mr Alfie, have you heard a saying “Pouring Water on the Rock, where nothing grows”. Message to Mayor: Dear Mayor, I told your Electrical Dept. that Electrical Lighting Control Boxes are Covered with PG Hostel Advertisement Stickers and other stickers. Is it not the Law that these boxes should have a sign on the front cover “DANGER” exposed for safety of public. Everywhere Public can see these PG Rental stickers are pasted on Panel Covers. These stickers have Contact Number written on it. So, please instruct your Electrical Engineer, Mr Kamath to take strict action on these violators by contacting numbers immediately. I met one of the Engineer in Person (In Electric Dept.Office) and I told Him about this problem and also gave Him the location near KSRTC and Maithri Hotel. 2months passed and still no action taken. Also the Panel is without the Cover. A small Child can reach and try to remove the Fuse. Smart City has Smart acting Children. But not so Smart Acting Employees.

Mr. Yeddy should know, the people who commit crime are from his own party, Rama Sene and RSS in the neme of cow protection, social policing etc. Some how they want to bring down the government so that Yeddy can climb to the throne again and bring back all those corrupt people like Reddy brothers !! What great things had Yeddy done when he was the CM. These are all gimmicks played by BJP and team to unseat the government. Really ashamed of these power hungry individuals.

Congratulations and best wishes to you, Mr. Yusuf Ali, Mr. Sunil Vaswani and Dr. B. R. Shetty for being on the top of the list from the Indian group in the Gulf Region as one of the recognized Billionaires by the Forbes Middle East group. What a pride for not only the Indians residing in the Gulf region but also to 1.3 billion Indians throughout India and elsewhere to realize that hard work and entrepreneurship added with leadership and diplomacy does help for Indians to shine in the Arab world. You three Billionaires have created business and also generated tens of thousands of jobs. You have masterminded your talents and your leadership styles and you have created a strong bond of friendship and association with the Arab leaders and have proved to them that we are all working together by sharing our talents and abilities for the good of mankind. The Arab world has always cherished a secret thought that Indians have the ability to join hands with them in order to achieve a mutually acceptable role that will bring joint benefits not only as individual Business Entrepreneurs but also as “Uncrowned Ambassadors” of India with a mutual purpose to grow and prosper together for a long term benefit of our respective countries. Indians in the Gulf region have a proven capability of not only extending a close collaboration of friendship and solidarity, but also our willingness to be the trusted partners and neighbors that can cooperate with each other but understanding our common goals and aspirations of promoting business and economic progress of our respective countries. Our best wishes to you all for your continued success in the Gulf region, and wishing you all to contribute your friendship and confidence for many collaborations and Joint Ventures that could move both the countries to a higher pedestal of growth and stability.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Centenary Celebration of Marian Apparition at Fatima

Our Lady of Fatima has helped Mangalore in so many ways, and the people of Mangalore are always there to place their daily grievances in the hands of our Lady. The famous Fatima Retreat House being in our very neighborhood for more than six decades has rendered to us greater hopes in our Lady of Fatima who has taken good care of us in our daily welfare in life. We would like to visit Fatima this year, if possible, and thank our Lady for all the continued blessings on us all, and hopefully we shall accomplish our plans sooner or later.
