  • From Richard Thomas on Cops Nail Bus Drivers Honking Shrill Horns

Dear Alfie, Good article on penalizing bus drivers for using shrill horns. However, I believe the Traffic Dept. or the Transport Dept. as they call it in Karnataka, should penalize the owners of these private buses for installing these Shrill Horns despite of their ban. Just issuing a Rs.100.- fine won’t change the attitude of these drivers. The fear of law should be instilled in them in a hard way to truly educate the owners and as well as the drivers. The Traffic Police should not stand at junctions and expect to catch these law defaulters – everybody knows where the police stand and at what hours – so they are smarter than these Traffic Cops. If they must catch and penalize, the whole issue should be a surprise and at a non-descriptive place. Similarly, wearing a safety helmet for two-wheeler. Despite of the existing law, the Traffic cops are still catching a lot of people who disrespect the law by merely having to pay up Rs.100.- I believe the new law – where the fines are increased 10 folds – as and if implemented – will certainly bring about a change.

  • From Joe D'Souza on Cops Nail Bus Drivers Honking Shrill Horns

Mr Alfie, when these high decibels horns are illegal, then the Garage Owner should be fined for installing the horns which are illegal. If a man carries an illegal weapon and roams on the street, Police will arrest Him as well as the Person who supplied the weapon. Then why this is not done in this case. One time I spoke about this to DCP and ACP in a meeting. They both said they will look into it but did not say when they will look. Dark Window Shield on cars is illegal on Mangalore Streets but it is installed in public near City Hospital Bus Stand in MCC Complex. RTO does not care as the money mint works. Traffic Police are in shortage. Mangalore needs tough Traffic Inspectors like Mr. Suresh Kumar, Mr. Gopal Krishna Bhat, Ms. Rosamma and there are few other Traffic Police of Traffic East who really perform their duties. People of Mangalore are not coming forward to call and inform Traffic Station or Police Control room about these violations and the Vehicle Numbers involved. Only know how to mumble and grumble behind the scene, about the problem. But I do it all the time as I have every number ready for Call. Alfie, please publish the important phone numbers and alert messages on your next Article. Thank you and God Bless You.

  • From D.R.Irani on Send Indian Army to Karnataka to Protect Cows - Sharan Pumpwell

Shri Sharan Pumpwell, with due respects to your sentiments & faith I have the following to share with you. Yes,the bovine animals along with all domesticated animals, over centuries of civilization need to be cared for, sheltered & protected by us as citizens & humans! The cow, bull, dog & cat being primary! While the cow is highest in the order, for having provided milk for the household & especially as alternate milk for the babies, when a human mother’s milk isn’t available for the infant! The bull for the farmers as ours was primarily an agricultural society & yet depends on agriculture! The dog as guard of house & companion for the farmers who left in the early hours for the fields! The cat was the in-house pet & killed pests & mainly warned us of any intruder esp. Snakes! The goats & fowls came lower in the order, providing for meat, milk & eggs etc! Our culture forbid us to kill wild animals & birds for sport or feast! But since our land had forest people & adivasis, for whom killing certain animals & birds was a life line for food people did kill wild life only for food!Much of that culture still survives in our land & guaranteed in our Constitution for STs!Wild life protection is also in law! So just as much as the cow & bull, held sacred by Hindus, many many other animals & birds are also held sacred & need not just be protected but cared for & sheltered & provided for! But the reality is:Wild animals like tigers, panthers, rhinos, deers etc are hunted down by criminal gangs for trade!Where are the rakshaks? Cows & Bulls are let to roam around cities, towns & even villages without guards to eat rubbish like paper, plastic & other wastes from dumps/municipal bins!Where are the rakshaks? In villages, for days on end, cows & Bulls are left to fend for themselves! The mute animals, seeking food & water, enter others’ farms damaging standing crops & vegetables & plants!I have personally been witness & suffered!Cows or Bulls,I have seen being abused verbally & mercilessly beaten by Hindus for causing damage! While these poor animals suffer their owners snored peacefully in beds!Come morning, the cows are milked & the Bulls taken to the fields for work,by the shameless Hindu owners!Where are the rakshaks? You say, such animals are taken to gaushalas!Fine! What are the scenes there?100s of scrawny, injured sick animals are herded in shedss & stockades!Yes,they are kept alive! But you may deny that being cruelty! You will point out some exemplary gaushalas, where a few healthy animals are sheltered, cared for & well fed!But be honest & say what is the % of such good Shelters? And what about the milk these Gaus give & what happens to them in death? Are they buried or cremated or ? And would you be kind enough to explain about the report of 100s of bovines that perished in a gaushala in Rajasthan recently?Apart from the cruel manner in which they perished, did you notice the pitiable state they were in? Is this what our culture is?Where are the rakshaks?Shouldn’t they protest & demand punishment for the authorities there? No!The whole thing is covered up & forgotten! A dubious case of a person running a gaushala, somewhere near Pune,Maharastra, was exposed in a sting operation involving ‘gaurakshaks’ came to light & money making exposed, but what happened?Where are the rakshaks? You may have genuine reasons for what is happening in Karnataka & you feel the need for the Army! You do not trust your local law & judicial machinery, may be because the BJP isn’t in power there,Congress is!Fine, that too could be genuine! But your asking for the Army is a bit too far fetched!Riots! The army!Floods! The Army!Frontiers! The Army!Insurgency! The Army!…..now Cow protection! The Army! Well, the Army ofcourse is the most disciplined, honest & fair force, free from prejudiced & corruption! It’s loyalty is to the nation as a whole & not any particular, people, faith or party! But if they are to leave their border posts & look into civilian problems as you would want them to then it would be nice if young & able bodied rakshaks could get recruited in the armed forces & go to the borders & manage our enemies across! Without prejudice A fellow citizen D.R.Irani.

Less than 2% of the people in Karnataka are Christians (refer link). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Karnataka Even fewer are Roman Catholics. It is ridiculous to ask for a state holiday for a RC feast celebrated only in Mangalore. A district holiday would make more sense.

OK, let’s have the Indian army protecting the “Sacred Gaumata” from being slaughtered. In the same breath let us have all the fringe groups deployed on our borders, where they can show their patriotism by confronting the enemies in a real combat! I guess it is a fair deal. Like few of the readers have pointed out, Hindus need to ponder if we walk the talk when it comes to cows. “Unproductive” cows and the male calves are sold to agents. And their fate is sealed. Gaumata is selectively holy to us! Yes, stealing of cows is a crime like stealing any other thing. Let the owners try to minimize the risk by not letting their cows stray into public areas. And from the side of the Law, stringent action needs to be taken against the thieves and traffickers!

  • From Richard Thomas on Send Indian Army to Karnataka to Protect Cows - Sharan Pumpwell

To protect Cows and Bulls from Theft, Slaughter, or from dirtying the roads and footpaths: 1. The owners of Cow or Bulls should be penalized with fines, if the Municipality finds cows and bulls left loitering on the roads and on other people’s property. 2. The owners of Cow or Bulls should be penalized with fines, if the Municipality finds cow dung on roads and footpaths from Cows or Bulls loitering the roads and footpaths. 3. The Municipality should be taken to task if they fail to check and eradicate Cows & Bulls loitering or sitting on roads and footpaths. 3. The Hindu people concerned about the sacredness of the Cow should also work on identifying whose Cows or Bulls are left loitering on the roads and footpaths and take appropriate action in educating their owners. All the above should be exercised to bring about love and peace on this issue.

Mr. Praveen Pinto, Moount Mary’s festival is an important one for Roman Catholics and in Bombay there is the Mount Mary’s Fair (popularly called Bandra Fair) held in September every year for seven days. In the church there is a very old statue of Mount Mary found by local fishermen (called “machimaars” or “Kohlis”), who gave it to the priests at that point in time. At this fair held annually, hundreds of thousands visit the place to attend the hourly masses, buy things at the fair and for making donations. It is all a matter of belief and people of all faiths attend it. It olden days, it was more of an obligation for some, outing for others and an outlet for fun for the teenagers and other youngsters on the prowl. Though, I appreciate the significance of this event, however, it does no mean that it should be declared a national holiday. In India, there are many holidays, especially for bank and government employees and it is high time, everyone works hard and increases productivity and contributes to the development their and country’s development.

  • From Mangal on Send Indian Army to Karnataka to Protect Cows - Sharan Pumpwell

When the Angrezis left India, they left behind many institutions. One is the English law. For reasons of natural evolution, a lack of understanding of the original intent (for which the law came into vogue), political expediency, desire on the part of the police to play lords of the society, and also the Indian mis-interpretation of the English language, much has changed in the Indian use of what was originally the English law. One such evolved feature is the meaning of what is cognizable and what is not. The English law considered very serious crimes as requiring police action before anyone had time to approach a magistrate/judge for an arrest warrant. Surely the police could not let a murderer escape right in front of their eyes just because an arrest warrant was not available. For non-serious crimes, such a privilege was not available to the police. This included thieving. Reason: police are not judges. Only a judge can declare if someone really was a criminal or not. But the Indian system has left the interpretation of the term cognizable, it seems, not just to the police, but also to the local thugs who love to play the role of the police – so long as alleged thieves are weaker sections of the society. The power of the local thugs comes from the convoluted adaptation of the English law into the Section 43 of the (Indian) Code of Criminal Procedure 1973. The local thugs are not interested in the well-being of the society. The section 43 of the code gives the local thugs an official permission to get a piece of the bribe pie. Hence the love to arrest the cattle thieves.

In India in general and Karnataka in particular what is required is to eradicate protein deficiency. This can be done if piggery is done in mass scale in industry scale in hygienic way. This way the cost of production is reduced and people get meat at cheaper price. People like pork more than beef as it is easy to consume and tasty and with convection, conventional grill and barbecue, eating fat can be avoided so that it doesn’t lead to heart and other lifestyle diseases.

The story created about the disposal of body by Navaneeth is 100% bogus. Police will never be able find any evidence about the crime from his narrated explanation. This story was well prepared before the crime. Until and unless they find the body no one can believe that person is dead. Who knows Bhaskar shetty may be still alive kept in some undisclosed captivity somewhere. Police are treating both mother and son with top most dignity. The way in which she presented at the court looks like she must have gone to a beauty parlor just before appearing court. Ultimately this case is more or less like Sunanda Pushkar’s death. Police will never be able to solve. Both mother and son likely to be free birds in another couple of years

My heart goes out for those cows slaughtered in thousands on daily basis for ‘naalige chapala’. We all know who is behind stealing cows, illegal trafficking and slaughtering. Let me just say – they don’t have any religion!! Makes sense? wink, wink.. On the other hand, Hindus also need to be honest. Overwhelming majority of hindu farmers sell their cows to ‘agents’ who in turn sell those cows to those involved in this illegal activities. If cow is a ‘go-maata’, then show it in action and stop treating those cows as expendable assets. We have artificially created a huge population of cows in the name of ‘ksheera kraanti’ (dairy revolution). If people are serious about protecting cows, then we need to cut down on our usage of dairy products.

Asking Govt for entire state looks like we are lazy people and will invite criticism. Hindus love and respect Christians and they understand our festivals well. If exams are kept on that particular day then if we politely request them to adjust dates I don’t think anyone will refuse. I am not carried away by most Hollywood films, which lacks creativity, story, imagination, etc. and are meant for the masses and not for astute viewers. Naseeruddin Shah was very right when he said that Rajesh Khanna was not a great star. His best films were Anand and Aradhana and others were just run-of-the-mill stuff. Since India is an excessively populated country having audiences in millions to watch Bollywood movies and cricket, they have become celebrities making monies. This leaves talented stars like Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Amol Palekar, Nandita Das and other creative stars with limited scope and options and they are forced to act in foreign films. For me, Dilip Kumar is the King of Bollywood and even in his younger days, he was media shy.

This is a fictional joke and I am narrating it just for fun and nothing else. I recall that this was narrated to me by a maternal uncle many years ago and he served over 40 years in one of Bombay’s leading film theatres which, at one time, was owned by Warner Brothers and, then, their theatre’s restaurant and pastry outlet was so famous that some guests living in the Taj Mahal Hotel (the only five star hotel in Bombay then), used to have meals and snacks there. He was older by two years to Dilip Kumar and had his looks. He was a Manager there and many Bollywood stars and other celebrities and well-oiled-and-heeled people would come to his office. Once I saw there, when Shashi Kapoor entered. However, he met all this people like any normal soul and there was no sudden getting up from his chair and saying, “I am very privileged and happy to meet you. Would you like to have something garam, naram or thanda?” He told me many interesting things, whenever he visited my place and some of them are imprinted on my hard disk. This what he told me: “About 50 years ago, a Shetty restauratuer had told a match-maker to look for suitable matches for his daughter of marriageable age for short-list-listing and final selection, as she was a ravishing beauty and promised the match-maker that if he successfully performed the assignment, he would be given generous compensation, including good food, kori-rotti and booze (well those days it was moonshine stuff, because there was prohibition in India). One has to remember that those days if a man was considered to be highly educated, it meant he was B.A. or B.Com. or B.E. or B.Sc. and if he was a lawyer, then he had done his LL.B. To study Chartered and Accountancy and Company Secretaryship, they would go to England (and it could not be done in India). After sometime, the match-maker came to the restaurateur and told him, “I have good news that will leave you immensely pleased. The restauratuer told the match-maker, “Please tell me. Tell me fast …..” The match-maker said, “I have found a very good match for your daughter. The young man has a good job in a bank and has two degrees.” The man gave a sarcastic laugh and said that, “So what, if he has two degrees. I have 14 degrees.” In short, most Shettys’ wealth those days comprised mostly restaurants (and these restaurants were his degrees), besides agricultural lands, gold and houses. Those days, the more the restaurants a Shetty owned, his social and financial status was on a higher plane.

I didn’t see a single Cong (I), or CPI(M) or SP or DMK etc party member doing the same in lands far far away from our dearest Akhanda Bharatha (a 3rd world country). 😉 Your analytical prowesses are top-notch as usual. Ahem! 😉 Congrats. 🙂

Mr. Praveen Pinto, I welcome you from Sabbatical leave and I, for sure, missed your absence. I hope you had a good vacation and a rollicking time. As regards Niranjan Bhat swallowing the diamond ring and ear studs to commit suicide, he may be a bit sophisticated in his ways. If he had a stud prickled on his belly button, then he may have also pricked some in strategic places. I personally feel that the cops may have administered laxatives and plenty of bananas for him to purge the items that he had swallowed.

The word is out that Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza are both not going to play together in women doubles. It is reported that both are going to play the women’s doubles with different partners. Best of luck to both of them. I wonder if Sania Mirza will get a better partner than Martina Hingis though the latter, considering her age, may not be as athletic as she used to be in her prime.

What Roopa Bangera said about launching new Projects for Publicity is correct. Look at those Banners with faces of MLA and MLC and fake show off Corporators. For example: look at the waste of money near Bendoor Church and St Theresa School. I have requested the concerned persons regarding a footpath where accidents took place and Little Children were walking in the middle of the road. How smart these people are, instead of Cement Slabs to cover the dangerous gutter and making a footpath, they have fitted Galvanized Iron Pipes railing. Then Children started walking further away in the middle of the road. After spending Lakhs of Rupees, now they have removed this Pipe Railing and cover the gutter with slabs. Mangalore was Smart City in EARLY DAYS and now becoming stupid due to Corruption. Mr Alfie shows the Smart City through His Articles with Photos to proves the Smartness.

Pakistan has sent a six member team, all wild card entries, which means they are not those based and playing in and for Pakistan, but people of Pakistani origin residing and settled abroad. These wild card entries did not have any elimination or qualifying rounds to shortlist and represent Pakistan at Rio Olympics. Forget about their rankings in respective sports. Such is the pathetic situation. They will be accompanied by a 10 member administrative staff who, as per one ex-player, have accompanied earlier contingents and, once there, they will have a good time, fun and frolic and buy medicines, balms, creams for niggles and aches.

I fail to understand why does the government select ex-sportsmen who have not participated in Olympics as Brand Ambassadors, rather than Sachin Tendulkar, who is from cricket – certainly not an Olympic or international sport. Again, why Salman Khan? What has Bollywood to do with Olympics. Secondly, he is facing criminal litigations for reckless driving and hunting black bucks and has been able to escape punishment due to being filthy rich and bribing witnesses.

Pursuant to my observations about Sania Mirza, she and her partner are out of the opening game of the mixed double at Rio. Sania Mirza has an attitude probem and suffers from a superiority complex, which has been aggravated by the government, sports authorities, corporate houses and general public by raising her to the sky and pampering her. She feels that she has done (and continues to do) a favour to India by sometimes winning in doubles and her partner is Martina Hingis, a sports person with incredible and impeccable credentials. She is not doing any favour for the country (because she is not playing for free) and she has been compensated umpteen times her real worth. In fact, the very day she married Shoaib Malik, she should have been eased out and, if Pakistan desired, she could have represented that country. By marrying a Pakistan, her loyalties are dubious and she has her feet in two boats.

  • From Well wisher of youngsters on Tribute to Johnson D'Souza

Dear Ms Jessy Dsa Very touching article and I join you in sharing pain of Johnson Dsouza’s family and my condolences too. We see too many youngsters are dying due to mostly road accidents and other disasters. However, no one gives a thought why this is the case in India, like other third world countries. I read a lot of comments from readers when such disasters happen, mostly blaming officials and ministers. They may be responsible to some extent by not maintaining proper infrastructure. But problem is very different and most of community members do not address or fail to address so as the parents. Even though the two wheeler driver thinks he or she is best and safe drivers, the issue is other road user may not. There is no concept of safety, legal implications of unsafe driving, poor roads, risk taking attitude among youngsters and so on. The list is long and will go on. I myself has survived several motor bike accidents during my younger days in 1980s in India, I get nightmares about this. Now looking back, it is the same confounding factors as above I mentioned in my response and problem is even worst because of tremendous increase in vehicle density without proportionate increase in roads and infrastructure. The only message I give to parents, please discourage your young child using 2 wheeler and at least buy them second hand car which is not too different in cost in comparison to bikes but car comes with at least some safety. Finally, I wish to say when ever I come on holidays to my village, I either walk for short distance or go by KSRTC for long travel which is relatively safe. I hope I gave some safety message to parents like me and hopefully less youngsters loose their life in bike accidents. RIP Johnson. My prayers to you and your family.

Wherever we travelled, all over the world, we have always boasted with many others whom we acquainted with that in addition to all the Intellectual, Cultural, Social and Economical growth of our dear home town, Mangalore we also have a PERFORMING ART CENTER in the very heart of our City in addition to Museums, Parks and Recreation Centers and also Libraries. We also proudly boasted that in Mangalore we also have an old established foundation of Rotarians, Lions as well as Toastmasters. Needless to say, Mangalore is also extremely proud of the contribution from the Catholic Priests and Nuns who came to Mangalore as Missionaries from Europe during the 19th Century and established themselves well for the benefit of Mangalore. “KALA-ANGANN” is our very dear Performing Art Center of Mangalore. Gurkhar Eric Ozario took us to the lovely spot via Kulshekhar and proudly displayed to us his short term and long term vision to this serene country-side spot where the facility displayed hundreds of theatrical and cultural performances for so many decades. Shriman Louie Pinto and few others have also been the “Shining Stars” of Kala-Angann who have changed the outlook of Mangalore. While it is nice to watch and witness the glory of Mangalore, we do admit that we have given very little to the Society that we belong so dearly. We have to do something sooner or later, but meanwhile our fond tributes are extended to all those that have contributed selflessly for the success of Kala Angann. May God help each and everyone, and we have already noted a “must” visit to Kalangann and witness the 15 sculprtures that have been so thoughtfully chosen by Shriman Eric Ozario and his team. God bless.

Intellectually, these members of the Shree Rama Sene are no different from the rabbple rousers that one comes across in Pakistan and these sort of people are barriers and impediments for progress in this 21st century. I wonder if any of these six members shown in the photos have travelled abroad and seen the progress the countries have achieved and how people live? They may have travelled to some places in Dakhina Kannada or in Karnataka, doing goondagiri and if they manage to extract money by force or through illegal activities, then they are happy to have chicken tikka or kori rotti and wash it down with beer. I am confident that the Catholic schools must have taken due permission from the State’s educational authorities and who are these SRS goons to dictate terms. Teaching of Arabic is optional and any expatriate working in Gulf knowing to speak and write Arabic fluently, has an added qualification and commands or can demand a better pay package, because he can double as an interpreter. Even in India, if one knows Arabic, his services can be utilised by Indian companies to write to governments and companies in Gulf and elsewhere for winning business orders and enhancing business. There was Bahrain’s ex-Labour & Social Affairs Minister, who while studying for B.Com. in Poona, earned Rs. 40,000 per month simply by helping companies to communicate with organisations in Bahrain on all issues. The government should come heavily on these rabble rousers.

  • From Nelson Lewis on Indian tennis stars hoping to rise at Rio

I have been observing Sania Mirza’s tennis career from the time the media created hype and hoopla by entry into tennis single. Prime Minister and Sports Minister permitted her in their offices. Politicians, corporate houses, sports loving public, etc., instead of having the patience to wait, watch and see how she fares in singles, raised her to the sky. She has been given land, money, awards and generous dose of accolades. If my memory serves me right, when she was still a teenager, a corporate house or some institution had roped her in to speak on safe sex. Does it not sound stupid and farcical, why a celebrity sportsperson who was still in her teens being roped in to speak about safe sex? She continued representing India in tennis and earning pots of money by cashing in on the stupidity of the sports authorities and powers-that-be who failed to realize that this lady was playing singles and perpetually losing out in first, second or third rounds and never surviving till the finals to win the cup or atleast end as a runner up. Then, she played a wise tactical move by not playing singles from thence and started playing mixed doubles or doubles by pairing with accomplished stars. In female doubles, she partnered with a highly accomplished star who has left her footprints in the single games, namely Martina Hingis and she (Sania Mirza) acts as she is a doubles No. 1, without revealing the facts thst it ie Martina Hingis, who is instrumental in winning (and not she, who has a perpetual failure in singles). Martina Hingis has spent 209 weeks as World’s No. 1 in Single competitions and has won five grand slam titles, apart from her achievements in doubles and mixed doubles. With such impeccable records, Sania Mirza is not a comparison and a mere shadow. From 2003, until Sania Mirza’s retirement from singles in 2013, she peaked to No. 27 (in 2007). She was nowhere at the top in singles, which really matters. She displayed her loyalty by marrying a Pakistani cricketer, Shoaib Malik, who, if I recall correctly, when India defeated Pakistan in T20, probably in September 2007 and was called up to say a few words and he began by saying, “First, let me congratulate the Pakistani team and their compatriots across the border on a great performance – just one shot in the end made the difference in a game which could have gone either way. Let me also state that I have the greatest respect for Islam, as for any religion, and harbour no ill-will towards Pakistan or Pakistanis,” and then then he went on to answer the interviewer’s queries. With such mentalities that most Pakistanis harbour (rather than having an open-mind), their country has become a factory and haven for terrorists, a nationalilty that can lie through their teeth and has sunk into abysmal depths. When one is playing a game, when there is one winner and a loser (or losers), it should be played in a true spirit, without dragging religion into it. Sania Mirza puts on a Western accent, suffers from attitude problem and is arrogant. I highly admire Saina Nehwal, a fellow Hyderabadi, who has created a storm in the world of badminton by being World No. 1 on a number of occasions, but none of our powers-that-be have given her due recognition.

Teaching Arabic language is not as same as teaching religious books. Arabic is a language while Bhagavad geeta is a religious book. These geniuses don’t know what they are talking about. As far as I know, schools have all the rights to teach Arabic language if it is optional to students. Opposing Arabic language simply because it is widely spoken by Muslims is pure bigotry. This is similar to religious bigotry shown by Muslim and Catholic groups when they oppose Yoga and Samskrutam. True secular, rational people will reject all types of bigotry!!

Dear Alfie, You have lived abroad so many years, that it is hard for you to comprehend why straight forward projects such as roads, footpaths, and drainage are not engineered and constructed once and for all properly. You have written so many articles, so many times, and yet the so called Kudla people seem not to care and change. So what ails them? In my opinion, If everything was done to the ”T”, you would not find the people in authority to be millionaires with their government salaries. Why don’t you get this? Without construction and reconstruction where would the money flow from? It’s an Indian phenomenon and happens in all states and cities in India. • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Mangaluru a Very Important City to be Developed - Minister Baig

Development of a City can be focused in a ten-fold fashion. City such as Mangalore has already been established with the following broad-based parameters such as :- a) Education and Educational Institutions including Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Engineering. b) Sea Port and Air Port facility with an active network of Railways and Bus transportation c) Tourist attractions such as Temples, Basillicas, Mosques and many other historic sights d) Parks and Recreational spots. e) Most importantly, the people of all cultures, religions with a wide variety of disciplines. f) Shopping Centers, Restaurants, Hotels and several other Handicraft centers. All that Mangalore requires is good and broad roads, clean streets with daily garbage collections. City development creates increased Economic growth, appreciation of properties and attraction for people from all parts of India to visit and patronize our services. India is the only country where the population is ever growing with emerging new generations that will bring strength and vitality to our society. All of the above will bring more jobs to the City, more taxes to our treasury, and more progress in our vibrant community. It’s good for everybody. Let us therefore render more focus on new developments with the help of new technology so that our progress will move forward swiftly and satisfactorily, and the people will become the ultimate beneficieries. Thank you very much.

  • From Original R.Pai on Youth Paraded by Sangh Parivar activists for Alleged cattle theft

There are some ‘brave’ questions at the end of this report. While those questions are very valid, here is the problem that I have repeatedly pointed out – I don’t remember media asking similar questions on certain groups for forcing an unofficial ban on cartoons or any open discussion about the link between terrorism and certain ideology. We are not even allowed to express critical views on those groups. If a person is intellectually honest, he/she will equally oppose right wing goondagiri from all sides. Unfortunately media all over the world has miserably failed to uphold the true values of journalism. They attack Hindus in India, Jews in Israel and Christians in Europe/USA. This has resulted in growth of right wing politics – from sangha parivaara to PEGIDA and Donald Trump!!! PS: By the way, I am really glad that the poor calf was rescued and I truly hope that it lives for a long time!!

  • From Nelson Lewis on Over 10,000 Indian workers facing 'food crisis' in Saudi Arabia

To the best of my knowledge, no one lives happily in Saudi Arabia. Some expatriates live there, because they earn good money and the avenues to spend are limited. Others by skills, experience and qualifications, do not have the parameters to get good jobs or look for good jobs to brighten their future and so stick to the jobs they have. In case of western expatriates, they stay in Saudi Arabia as the money is good and during the two Eids, Christmas, New Year, etc. that come during the year, they go to Thailand, Philippines and other places for fun and frolic, especially those who are on single status employment contracts. Most western expatriates work for two to three years and then they quit either in quest of greener pastures or to settle down in their country. For a male, marrying is an expensive proposition which all Saudis cannot afford. So, they go to the Philippines and Thailand and marry there and set and finance small businesses for their spouses, so that they are self-employed. They visit them once in four months. In short, a normal Saudi’s motto is, “Cheap and best.” They even come to India’s Hyderabad to marry Muslim females and there are cases they have married underaged females and then take them to Saudi and some of them face torture and ill-treatment. There are two countries with no human rights at all: Saudi Arabia and North Korea. Today, with the oil prices having plummeted, Saudis are in a very bad shape. What else do they have to export? Maybe, the dates grown in the oasis of Al Hassa and they could export camel’s milk, either plain or favoured, in jazzy or neatly designed tetra-packs and plastic bottles. However, there should be takers for that stuff. There is no scope to export camel’s meat, as it is hard and tastes and smells awful. However, there is one who prefers to play the Abbas numbers, saying that life is fantastic in Saudi Arabia. Life is good in Saudi Arabia! My foot! Why will Saudis run around the world seeking fun and frolic? As per me, the best places amongst the Arabian Gulf countries are the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

  • From Sheikh on Over 10,000 Indian workers facing 'food crisis' in Saudi Arabia

Pointing out that about three million Indians including people from all faiths are working and living happily in Saudi Arabia, they said sacking of employees by some firms due to crisis is a rare case. “I do not know why media is portraying as if all Indians in Saudi Arabia are starving to death,” ? “Private firms in India like Kingfisher, Sahara and many others went bankrupt and their workers lost jobs. Has the Indian government given them jobs? “If the situation had been alarming for Indian workers, how come remittances sent by NRIs from the Kingdom is highest?” Does Indian mass media report the crisis in the same tone in west when fortune 500 companies sacked thousands of employee in short notice? If the condition is alarming why the employee didn’t ask for termination of contract and seek job back home instead of starving as reported by the media? Why is there no focus on the rising crime rates in the world especially in Western countries despite their huge law enforcing machinery and generally good economic conditions? Does it not point to the inefficiency of their law system and the prevalence of social conditions leading to crimes? Jai Hind

Hope other young and reckless motorcycle riders give a thought to such consequences and learn to ride a bike wearing a helmet, riding slow and cautiously, avoid riding at nights, and mainly not to ride a bike after consumption of alcohol. The narrow, badly marked, badly lit, inside roads in Mangalore District or Udupi District are death traps for small cars and 2-wheelers. The Traffic Dept. simply registers a case, whilst not doing anything on how to bring down the high rate of accidents in Karnataka.

Now, compare this incident to daily ‘peaceful’ incidents where attackers and their organizations clearly claim responsibility for the attacks citing clear religious references. • From Jay on Over 10,000 Indian workers facing 'food crisis' in Saudi Arabia

Indians form the single largest majority in all Gulf countries, and since most of them are in low paying jobs the government of India should enact and most importantly enforce laws through their foreign counter parts. If any of them do not fully co-operate then they should be able to go up to the highest law of the land to seek justice. But the problem is so huge because local laws just do not support foreign workers rights, and there is no basic concept of human rights in any of those countries. In the West our entire legal system and human rights are for all (though we do have our rotten apples) by and large everyone is protected and so there is no need to seek redress from the Indian missions here. Hence, India needs to have a special ministry with a large workforce that would investigate all cases and seek justice for those who have been effected. As a last resort the defaulting companies and individuals must be made to sign cash bonds through our banking system to ensure that monetary compensation is made available, and if they continue to default in large numbers then a temporary ban should be put until a solution is found. If still no solution is found, make the ban permanent. I’m 100% they will not find any workforce anywhere in the work where they are exploited to the hilt and on top of that they could go without pay.

  • From Nelson Lewis on Over 10,000 Indian workers facing 'food crisis' in Saudi Arabia

Since quite sometime, the economic condition in the Arabian Gulf countries has been going from bad to worse. simply because the oil prices have plummeted. One has to realise that the incomes of these countries are dependent on production of crude oil and refining it. Thereafter, they export crude, refined oil and petroleum products. They just do not have anything else to boast of, i.e. industries, tourism, film industry, agriculture, educational facilities to attract foreign students, services, thriving software or pharmaceutical industries nand other things that will bring them assured sources of income. They could get some income by export of dates and flavoured camel’s milk, marketed in cute and attractive packages. Further, research on solar energy is making much headway. I am very sad to hear about the plight of Indians in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. As far as I know, the economic environment of Bahrain is very bad. The salesmen in shops are just twiddling their thumbs, yawning and scratching, in anticipation that things will improve. Many businesses have closed down.

The infrastructure has to be mordern machinery with short time turn around. NMPT has a record handling of Iron ore within the shortest time. However, we need to entertain the port to make more ships call, by reducing their waiting time. Berthing upon arrival is one of the most advantage to any ship owners, which shall save money. Also, NMPT should also look into moving heavy lift and odd dimension cargo, and exclusive berth should be provided for vessels arriving for such cargo. Renewable energy is taking up the global market and NMPT is the idol port to ship out wind mill turbines and blades.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on New Mangalore Port Attracts more Cargo from Chikkamagaluru

Port is an Economic Arm for progress and prosperity of a nation. The Port caters for import and export of all goods coming into the country and going out of the country. While the Port enjoys all the modern amenities with loading and offloading facilities plus the transit storage facilities as well as the customs formalities and Tariff benefits. The lifeline of Economy can only be fully realized by encouraging all the neighboring jurisdictions to expand their manufacturing facilities so that the indigenous goods can be exported to far distant countries thru regular ocean going vessels. It is the Port authorities that have to expand the knowledge and initiative to the manufacturing society in producing best possible products of International standard and remain competitive in every aspect of quality, quantity and also integrity. Reputation in the product manufacturing and adhering to the competition are some of the single most important criterias that the State Government as well as the Central Government have to promote in order to enable the local manufacturers to produce goods and products to suit with the global standards. The establishment of the Port and all the diversified services that originate from the Port should be the major focus from the Ministry of Trade and Commerce in conjunction with the Ministry of Transport and Communication who all have an equal role to play for the future growth and prosperity of not only Chickmaglur but all the rest of the neighboring areas in being able to produce Coffee, Tea, Cardamom, Pepper, Tapioca, and many other Agricultural products suitable for the rest of the world.

Honestly, I saw this coming. The warning from Asst Commissioner promising cancellation of apartment registration had no legal basis. While I appreciate his willingness to resolve the situation, it wasn’t the right way of approaching the problem. I have no doubt that this adopted son either threatened or put emotional pressure to give away the apartment. He should have shown some responsibility in taking care of this poor lady. Alfie, what you said is 100% true. Most of the clergies do not practice what they preach. Also most of the catholics listen to the sermon just like how some politicians give speech because they know that even the former do not practice. Alice never thought that the person whom she believed so much would transfer the property to his name and she was too old to fight for her rights. This happens everywhere in India because of outdated laws. In US, no one can encash a cheque or fixed deposit which is not in his name, but in India it’s possible. In India, land records can be altered just paying bribe if someone is bold enough. Rest in Peace Alice.

It is appalling to read that not a single “human” helped a fellow brother pleading for help! Have we become so insensitive that we cannot even make a call to 108 or just inform the policemen who are usually on duty at Nanthoor circle. Usually auto drivers of Mangalore are the first to ferry accident victims to the hospitals. Looks like Mr Ravishankar was unlucky in that aspect too. Finally, all is well that ends well. Hope the culprit causing the accident and running away will be arrested soon and made to compensate for the trauma undergone by the victim Kudos to M.Com for your ever-present sense of duty towards building a better society by delivering relevant messages to the society.

  • From Original R.Pai on SRS activists barge into St Thomas School over Arabic classes

First of all, SRS doesn’t have any authority to barge into a private property. They can protest from outside and voice their concerns. However, there is no room for private property rights violation and any kind of threat. On the other hand, it’s quite disappointing to see how one particular minority community has moved from French to Arabic!! These groups make a big deal when someone tries to teach Yoga or Samskrutam. But they have no trouble learning French or Arabic. This unholy alliance between minority groups, sharing a common hatred towards Sanaathana culture, is very troubling.

For trained ears, one knows exactly what he meant with a reference to ‘ghee eaters’. This is the kind of euphemism used by ‘Beef Club’ as well. In the past, our own joker Praveena Pinto had made similar references. As I have always maintained before, majority of those who oppose BJP are hindu haters. And, majority of those who oppose RSS are Brahmana haters. Let’s put this in perspective. Yes – four dalits were beaten in distant gujarath. Nobody in right mind will support it. In fact, police are already going after the culprits and their assets. In fact, one of the guys who was involved in beating was a muslim!! Dalits all over India have all the right to be upset over this incident. I’m not surprised by the outrage by Dalit groups. However, I am astonished by how blindsided they are standing with wrong groups who are known for wiping out minority groups in their societies!! Very troubling.

  • From Joe D'Souza on Police Commissioner Felicitates Traffic Wardens

Congratulations to Traffic Wardens and thanks to Your efforts in controlling Traffic on Lawless Mangalore Streets. You are putting Your life in danger along with Traffic Police while standing in between traffic jams. I made hand held “Stop” Signs to help the Traffic Police. But they did not show any interest in it. They still loved to show their hand to control Traffic in between the Large Vehicles.. Good Luck to them. I can understand the difficulty while watching these Traffic Police struggling to control unruly Rickshaw drivers and Bus drivers along with Bikers. Here the efforts of Traffic Jawans comes as helping hand. But how many drivers and People appreciate it,but argue with them. Since few years,I started doing my share of efforts to help Traffic Police. At the request of Traffic Police Inspectors,I started to install Traffic Signs, such as ” NO PARKING”,” BUS STOP””NO HORN”near Schools,Children Crossing sign, plus other Signs, at My Expenses. I am paying for Plastic Stickers,Welding Cost,Cement,Gravel,Sand and expensive Labor Cost to install the Signs. My only intention is to save a life of Child walking on the streets of Mangalore. But when I see, Well Educated Doctors,Lawyers, and Wealthy Educated People park their High End Cars right under “No Park” Sign,My heart breaks with a question to mind “Why am I doing this”. We call Mangalore as Educational Mecca and People coming out of this Mecca are ill behaved and unlawful and uneducated. I am sure these Poor Traffic Jawans including 94 years old Joe Gonsalves feel the same as I feel when Bus Drivers and Rickshaw Drivers do not co-operate with them during Traffic Jam. I also feel sad for College Students Sacrificing their Study Time to help Traffic Police as Jawans. Does anyone Appreciate their Efforts with kind Heart. Again I wanted to Thank every Traffic Jawan for their Kind Act.

The restaurant business is high risk and there expected high return. I think what you are looking for is venture capital funding. That is possible if there is a clear business plan to execute it with numbers to back up. The dream is important but should not expect the public to donate funding towards someone else’s dream. Rather put up a strong business case and then look for investor funding. Mangalorean people know their taste buds and are very picky on what they like to eat given that there is so much choice. We all speak so much against Christian religion. Why are you now worried about it ? The following religion is one’s freedom of belief ? If one is happy about their accepting a particular religion, none has the right to opine against their belief. There are still a lot of hungry and underprivileged. Look after them, uplift them instead of engaging in hatred on humanity! Without hurting others, causing hatred to other religion. Practising any religion, need not be questioned. Why such huge hue & cry now after so many decades! It is our duty and right to respect our forefathers who have accepted a particular religion for some reason. Let us not slush mud on it ! There are so many. Uplift them. A lot of ugly practices have been eliminated by education. Do we wish to go back now to live how we were a century ago? Will anyone accept the old practices? If some are offended by all these modernisations, stop sending your children to learn English. Stop craving for jobs overseas! Instead of preaching others, start practising! Stop your children wearing modern dresses and then come out to teach others! Stop spreading hatred! The World is beautiful. Chant and walk – Live and let live happily ! Earth will be heaven!

It makes me wonder why there are so many suicide attempts in our police dept these days. What has changed? Is it because they have more pressure these days? Or, are we recruiting people who are tough enough to handle some of these jobs? For example, take the case of a lady officer who tried to kill herself because her senior officer made some remarks. However, given that carcass collection was always something that the Dalits did manually, this stopgap measure is proving to be inadequate, especially in rural areas outside the district headquarters, with cow carcasses decaying at several places. At a cow shelter in the nearby block of Limbdi, around 20 cow carcasses rot with no Dalits to pick them up. “In the Ratanpur area of Surendranagar town, they kept on calling us to collect three dead cows but we never went,” said Hirabhai Chadwa. “Ultimately, stray dogs tore the carcass apart.” “This boycott is hurting us too but we need to put our foot down,” says Chawda. “Gau rakshaks harass us and even the police extorts bribes from us. Why? We are not stealing – this is our job.” Reality of ‘Gujarat Model’ ,otherwise mainstream paid news channel occupied ‘rath-ki-charcha’. Jai Hind

Truly unfortunate! Cows are a big menace to traffic, and the RTO is not doing anything about it. Cows are respected spiritually by the Hindus , but that does not give the owners of the cows the right to let them loose on the main roads. If they are stolen or knocked down by a vehicle – certain political goons come forth to make a big noise about a cow and it’s sacred values. Why don’t such political goons go around finding out whose cow or bulls are roaming around freely on the roads, and warn their owners. The RTO must take action of lifting all cows, private buses, lorries, etc. parked on highways and roads – as they cause hindrance to vehicles and pedestrians.

There is nothing hitech about sharing a mobile number to pimp girls. Prostitution is another area of confusion for many societies. What’s the big deal if two consulting adults decide to have sex in their privacy? As long as there is no threat, force or deception, there is nothing morally wrong about this. However, many societies have turned sex into a taboo and criminalized these natural acts.

Mr.Alfie and the mangalorean.com team , kindly visit Ms. Alice DSouza and see her condition and how she is doing. It’s not enogh only if you write what’s told to you to report. I guess you need to personally go and visit her and follow up whether Arun kumar is doing the needful and whether treatment is provided to her in a fair manner and if she is getting better or not. She needs a lot of prayers and emotional support rather than praises. Your reporting will be complete if you get the right facts. News reporting is good to highlight such cases but what makes it excellent is if it is followed up with emotional bonding. May be for your team it’s just another news but I guess there is something more than news which binds humans and that’s humanity which most of the people in and out of mangalore lack. So I kindly request you and your team to report her condition after visiting her. To all the readers and her relatives kindly keep her in your prayers and go and visit her.

He is a good man, who went to help. Perhaps in the wrong place, at the wrong time. His captors are connected to the outside world to larger groups and states in one way or the other. The PM was in Yemen a few months ago and surely he has his contacts, and through the Embassy of India they could work for his release. The UN and Islamic organizations should also do their part to get the priest released.

  • From Richard Thomas on Precious lives could be saved if road users follow traffic rules - SP Annamalai

Dear SP Annamallai, Surely loss of precious life and property can be made minimal, if the authorities too understand the situation and act on it – instead of just giving big talks of conern in public. Accidents do happen even in the most developed countries with the most sophisticated and well built roads and signalling systems – USA, Dubai, Kuwait, Germany, to name a few. Accidents in Udupi and Mangalore can be minimized if a thorough study is undertaken by all the authorities empowered for the development of roads and signalling system. I have voiced many a times in Mangalorean.Com on this subject, and as a concerned citizen, I must reiterate once again, especially to SP Annamallai, who seems to be an honest and responsible person in authority: 1. Erect Traffic Lights on all major cross roads in Udupi starting from Manipal, Kalnsanka, City Bus Stand, Bannanje/DC Office, KSRTC Bus Stand, Udupi Head Post Office, Diana Circle, Big Bazaar/Ajjarkad junction, etc. At present there are none, and one or two that are there, are non-functional. Do not allow MESCOM to switch off road lights at night. 2. Mark main roads with lanes, Pedestrian crossings, Left Turn, Right Turn, etc. 3. Install LARGE BOLD Warning Signs, Traffic Signs, and Speed Limits. When one goes to the RTO, one is made to read and understand many traffic signs, that are non-existant on any road in Udupi! 4. Erect speed breakers, that truly stops a vehicle to break speed, and not those 2inch plastic speed breakers that are installed that everyone speeds over. 5. Put Traffic cops all over 24 hours – and do not allow them to stand in groups as you will witness at Kalsanka or the City bus stand – simply standing and talking instead of effectively manning the roads to ensure smooth flow of traffic. 6. Educate people, especially the locals, Not to drive on the wrong side of the roads, not to ride a bike or scooty with 3 & persons, not to park any where and everywhere, to get in the habit of using Turn Signals and slowing down much in advance in all cases. Educate private bus drivers on how to drive a bus with public inside – they are some of the most rash bus drivers on planet earth. 7. Constructs open grounds and/or Parking Buildings, so as to facilitate parking of vehicles – at present there are none – this is a need and not a luxury! I hope the above few inputs will be read and implemented by all the authorities, as in India, improvisation or carrying out something for the people involves a lot of people who never walk the roads, who always go around in police escorts with roads cleared, and who depend on the Central Govt. to approve, sanction, and release funds, and the CM and the MLA’s etc. to take credit, and the Contracts awarded to barbers and cobblers, who know nothing about construction, and ultimately, we get poorly constructed roads, shabbily constructed footpaths, and badly engineered drainage, that are never cleaned periodically. SP Annamallai cycles every day 20km as per his claim, surely he must have witnessed all the above in Udupi. The Mangalore part is fed in almost on a weekly basis by the reporters of Mangaloren.Com

Mr. Alfie, You and Me along with few NGO’s and Honest Citizens of Mangalore feel this Pain. So, We tell this matter to MCC Engineering Dept. and they are always busy in meetings or they are in Bangalore or Surathkal. Look at the problem of gutter on Mallikatta-Bunts Hostel Road and that shows the Corruption of area Corporator. Look at the danger near Arya Samaj road junction with the open gutter. I have spoken to Chief Executive Engineer and He sent Contractor Supervisor of Jugul Construction. Still, it is a life-threatening mess. Then look near Natural Ice Cream building where a Child can Fall after eating tasty Ice Cream. Look near Bharath Beedie-Kambla road junction. This is another famous Corrupt Ward of Mangalore. Look at the open dug up area near the entrance to Kambla Road. I hope local Corporators’ SUV should fall into it to give a clear message of ignorance. Crores are sanctioned for Rainy season repairs but if they use it, there is nothing left to…..! Now they have to find a dead Contractor or someone to make a Fake Bill of repairs and…………….. MCC is becoming Mangalore C……… Center.

  • From Sheikh on No Shorts-Minis? Local Temple Imposes 'Dress Code'

In a historically inaccurate statement which has come as a surprise for many, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that skirts have been a part of Indian culture. Addressing an event held to mark the return of Indian cultural property in Washington, he said that two thousand years ago, artists had made sculptures at the Konark Sun Temple resembling the modern fashionable girl who wears skirts and carries a purse. The prime minister believes that the 13-century Sun Temple shows ‘modern fashionable girl wear who wears skirts and carries purses’. His statement has been termed as factually incorrect because according to Archaeological Survey of India, the Sun Temple, famous for its erotic sculptures, was built in AD 1255 and not 2,000 years ago, reports Telegraph. CM Laxmikant Parsekar from BJP says you won’t find Goan girls in bikinis. No one knows his gone to beach for ‘Jal Vayu Vihar’ or bikini census. This statement came after state Public Works Department Minister and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa) legislator Sudin Dhavalikar make a statement “Young girls wearing short skirts in nightclubs are a threat to the Goan culture. This habit of young girls wearing short dresses everywhere does not fit the Goan culture. What will happen to it if this continues? We should not allow this. It should be stopped.” Modi’s team of Sadhvi’s & Swamis are against girls wearing jeans but Modi supports mini skirts, says our girls used to wear skirts 2000yrs back. In this new era of fashion design when RSS dropped shorts to adopt pants, future smart city like Mangalore is adjusting to the old civilization. While PM taking proud of skirts Mangalore want to impose strict dress code for women only devotes. When men visit temple in divine the focus should be on ‘Shradha’. Why blame women for dress code don’t ask men to lower their eyes? Incredible India.

Indeed a good move and this should be applied in every temple of Mlore city. Temples are places of worship and is not a place to show cast one’s dressing aspects. I myself have seen many women visiting the temple with indecent dress, which off course does not severe our purpose of temple visit and that disturbs our praying peace. We need to follow the regulations in temples like Horanadu and Kollur. Despite caste and religion, one has to follow strict dress code including the men, who have to remove their shirts, before entering the scared place to have the darshan of the lord. Great move by “women-only”group.

  • From Sheikh on DySP Ganapathi had Beaten Catholics, Priests and Nuns

There are debates on the innocence of the late DySP Ganapathy, thanks to his controversial career. Leaders like R Ashoka declared that the police officer had a clean career, but several departmental enquiries against him tell a different story. His 25-year career was marked not just by allegations of corruption, but also alleged inaction during the Mangalore church attacks of 2008. On September 14 of that year, the Adoration Monastery of the Sisters of St-Clare, near the Milagres Church in Hampankatta, was attacked by Bajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sene activists. Reportedly the attacks were carried out to intimidate Christians who loudly protested against attacks on nuns and religious heads in Odisha. In 2014, he had been suspended for not following Standard Operating Procedure, allegedly after he pocketed money recovered from a thief. A businessman named Rangaswamy had lodged a complaint with the Rajagopalnagar police station in October 2013, stating that Rs 1 crore had been stolen from his relative’s godown. But in the FIR, Ganapathy had written that only Rs 24,000 had been stolen. When the money was recovered from the businessman’s younger brother, Ganapathy allegedly returned only Rs 64 lakh. Ganapathy, then inspector of Yashwantpur police station, was part of the team headed by then Bengaluru Joint Commissioner (Crime) Alok Kumar that allegedly killed rowdy sheeter Pachi alias Prashanth in a fake encounter on September 25, 2010. The late officer suspended twice during BJP,now became hero of the party. God’s court has finally given verdict that he committed on duty. Now BJP Karnataka President B S Yeddyurappa raising voice against DYSP Ganpati suicide. Why is he called police official not to harass some Hindu youths in a murder case in Hassan district? Jai Hind

Highlighting only one side and not acknowledging the bad behavior and mistakes on other side are counter productive to what this report is trying to achieve. Moreover, discrediting and disrespecting a dead police officer who left a clear testimony on TV channels reflect poorly on this community and its leaders. There are many muslims who disagree with Dr. Zakir Naik (and his disturbing sermons) and one of his sisters is not in favour of what he is doing and, over the years, she has had differences of opinion with him. Dr. Zakir Naik’s father was a psychiatrist and also had his clinic where, after completing his M.B.B.S. he was practising. He was very much influenced by a foreign Islamic preacher and did not take interest in his medical profession for which he had trained and became a preacher himself.

Mr. Mohammed Hanif, To you and to some other Muslims, Dr. Zakir Naik is a hero but, for me, he is a fraud and a scoundrel, who has become a multi-millionaire by preaching hate about other religions and superiority of Islam (as if Islam was one of the oldet religions which, in fact, is not). Dr. Naik has taken advantage of the semi-literates, who have no brains and reasoning power. Contrary to what you said, I counter you by saying that many mentions have been made of both Mother Mary in the Bible (New Testament). I cannot tell anything about the Torah because that holy book is written in Hebrew and I do not know that language. Further, it is a very ancient scripture. From what little I know about Prophet Mohammad (may peace be upon him), he was an illiterate person and, therefore, he did not write the Koran himself. Rather, it was dictated to somebody else, who wrote it for him. It is something like Adolph Hitler who, though not an illiterate, but was poor in in written German had dictated his thoughts to Rudolf Hess, who wrote it down for the future Fuhrer and later it was published as Mein Kampf.

  • From Jay on DMO to Protest Vilifying Campaign Against Dr Zakir Naik

Mohammed Hanif “I am not forcing u to accept my belief, IPhone says they are the best and Samsung says they are the best” – This is not the teachings of Islam, non Muslims are offered 3 choices and all through history people were forced to accept any one of the following. 1. Convert to Islam and pay 2.5% of their savings as Zakat. 2. Do not convert to Islam, and pay 50% of their income (not savings) as Jaziya. 3. Hence, if anyone does not want to convert to Islam and pay the Zakat, or remain a non Muslim and pay the Jaziya, then the order is to kill them? Why? Would it be acceptable to Muslims if Hindus, Christians & Jews were to use the same reasoning and logic extract money out of you? Zakir Naik is a Master of “Taqqiya” or Lying, and since you have watched his videos you may have also got well trained too. All Zakir does is to lie and lie, and makes it sound that his lies are the truth. If you think Zakir is telling the truth then go and also watch the youtube videos of David Wood, Sam Shamoun, Dr. Nabeel Qureshi and you will know how much he lies. He was supposed to return to India on July 11, 2016, where is he? I doubt he will come back. If he was clean and honest he will come back and face the allegations against him, and clarify with his copy of un-doctored videos. Wait and see he will settle in a Muslim country and join hands with other terrorists like Hafiz Saeed, etc and continue his terror acts against India and the Indian people and his well oiled Semi and illiterate audience will clap for Zakir.

  • From K S Bhat on MOF protests against false allegations on Dr Zakir Naik

A German’s view No need to be sorry for any attack by fanatics, please read this before its too late guys: wake up world and heads of state and countries before its very very late. A German’s View on Islam – worth reading because this is by far the best explanation of the Muslim terrorist situation I have ever read. His references to past history are accurate and clear. The author of this email is Dr. Emanuel Tanya, a well-known and well-respected psychiatrist–a man, whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II, and owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism. ‘Very few people were true Nazis,’ he said, ‘but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of our world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.’ We are told again and again by ‘experts’ and ‘talking heads’ that Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam. The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor-kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers. The hard, quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the ‘silent majority,’ is cowed and extraneous. Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China’s huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people. The average Japanese individual, prior to World War II, was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians, most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet. And who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were ‘peace loving’? History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt. Yet for all our powers of reason, we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence. Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don’t speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun. Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late. Islamic prayers have now been introduced into Toronto and other public schools in Ontario, and, yes, in Ottawa too while the Lord’s Prayer was removed (due to being so offensive?! To whom? Not to the vast majority of Canadians!). The Islamic way is only peaceful until the fanatics move in. In Australia, and indeed in many countries around the world, many of the most commonly consumed food items have the halal emblem on them. Just look at the back of some of the most popular chocolate bars, and at other food products in your local supermarket. Foods on aircraft have the halal emblem, just to appease the privileged minority who are now rapidly expanding throughout the world. In the U.K, the Muslim communities refuse to integrate and there are now dozens of ?no-go? zones within major cities across the country that the police force dare not intrude upon. Sharia law prevails there, because the Muslim community in those areas refuses to acknowledge British law. As for we who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts — the fanatics who threaten our way of life. Anyone who doubts the seriousness of this issue and just deletes this email without sending it on, is contributing to the passiveness that allows the problems to expand. So, I beg you, extend yourself a bit and send this on and on and on in the hope that thousands, world-wide, read this, n about it, and send it on – before it’s too late . . .. because we remained silent.

  • From Original R.Pai on DMO to Protest Vilifying Campaign Against Dr Zakir Naik

Dear Brother Mohammed Haneef, You started off with humility and presented a very moderated view in your first post. But true colors came out in your response to Nelson’s post! Let me break it down for you. # Zakir Naik is clearly deceiving people when he says his video on Osama was doctored!! There are multiple videos on the same topic and they are all doctored? Why did he take this long to provide a clarification? In fact, yesterday, he posted a video on his official channel and reiterated the same thing!!!! Watch this video – Apparently, he still doesn’t know who Osama Bin Laden is!! Seriously???? Did he post a doctored video in his own channel?? LOL # You also say that your religion is supreme. Let me understand this – Does it mean that you don’t believe in India’ constitution? If there is a conflict between constitution and your religion, what do you follow? Do you also believe that non-muslims should be prevented from practicing their faith in muslim countries? As you know, muslims are free to preach and celebrate their faith in India. Do you support similar freedom to Hindus in Islamic countries? Let us know.

For any clear thinking person, it was very clear that all sides made mistakes during 2008 incident. Police responded only after a few trouble makers engaged in property damage and pelted stones injuring cops. Unfortunately, police responded with disproportionate force assaulting many innocents who were used as shield by the trouble makers. Quite honestly, re-opening this old incident to discredit a dead Police officer shows poor taste and bad judgement. This is no different from the case of an individual from Hindu community who disrespected Traci road accident victims on Facebook purely based on religious bias. Oh well…

  • From Original R.Pai on MOF protests against false allegations on Dr Zakir Naik

This is Taqiyya at best!! Someone needs to remind these guys that it was Bangladesh who requested an investigation into Dr.Naik’s activities and hate speech. Are Bangladesh leaders part of RSS and ‘hindu conspiracy’??? Who are they fooling? Also, see how this group is dragging human rights issue into this debate when they are promoting exactly opposite of human rights. If they are for human rights, do they believe in equal rights for women? How about more rights for gays and lesbians? What about those who want to leave their religion? Do they really believe in constitution or Sharia?

This is a fit case for CBI Inquiry in order to deliver justice. CBI should have independent authority to probe any case in the nation without seeking permission from the State Govt. There should be checks and balances in the democracy and no one should cover up the culprits, no matter how powerful he/she is. Look at the FBI questioning their own former boss — Hillary Clinton about her e-mails, simply because she allegedly lied. Using toxic gas on innocents certainly requires a International level of inquiry as this gas may be as dangerous as chemical weapons.
