  • From Krishna on Kharge Inaugurates 'Blasius D'Souza Road' at Bendurwell

What is the use of just renaming? A few months back read about pot holes on road being filled by a lady guard or constable. I don’t know whether any road user remember her great work now. As far as I remember Blasius D’Souza was a great lover of poor and hence pedestrians. If these politicians has built a nice broad footpath and then renamed the road it could have done justice to Blasius D’Souza.

  • From Anonymous on DySP Ganapathi had Beaten Catholics, Priests and Nuns

These series of attacks could have been averted if the Catholic clergy had distanced themselves from the splinter groups like “New Life” who are worser than Zakir Naik at hurting the sentiments of others, including Catholics and Protestants. But alas, a Mangalorean lady politician had called up the Catholic Bishop a few weeks prior to the incident and ordered him to say that all Christians are united. This was an orchestrated attempt at dividing the populace. You cannot blame the police. They’re just the means for the ends of the politicians. If they don’t obey their orders, they’ll be posted in far off and naxal prone areas. Nobody would like to be away from their families. All blame should rest on the late, highly corrupt and immoral politician from Udupi.

There are many disturbing aspects to the protest held by supporters and followers of the Wahabi fanatic and hatemonger, Zakir Naik. The protesters did not denounce the deadly terrorist attack in Bangladesh by Zakir Naik’s followers. The protesters were silent on the deadly terrorist attack in Bangladesh by Zakir Naik’s followers. The protesters did not remember and honor the victims of the deadly terrorist attack in Bangladesh by Zakir Naik’s followers and supporters.

Mr Saldanha, whoever he is, and as we had seen always with this kind of people, has drawn out a extremely false, biased, coloured, communalised, one sided narrative on a unfortunate incident. No surprise because the very purpose was just that, to play his community as a victim of a ‘ hateful bull dozing community with all powers like a Minister, a SP and a bad Dy SP’. If you read it, you will feel that there was s Minister, a hate monger, who one day suddenly woke up and took his mobile and instructed his police personnel to enjoy beating up of priests, nuns and lots of Christians and they all just do so with pleasure. Laughable indeed. Mr Saldanha there could have been some thing, even if a very vague one, that put all these into motion, right? Why you deliberately missed all the details which would have turned around the whole story? Do we Need one Mr Saldanha to hide certain realities about what Christian Missioneriws do all over the world in converting unassuming poor members of other communities covertly? Is it a secret today that the gathering that Mt Saldanha describe as a very important and sacred ones are many times occasions of conversions of Hindu citizens exploiting their unfortunate state of atmosphere poverty, marginalisation etc by offering help and persuasions of all kinds? Is it not true that such activities have already produced a Converted Christian Community as one huge entity today placing them neither here or there? Is it not true that there is immense tension in the Society because of this one unethical mass program which agitate Hindu Community? If this one major unpleasant issue is stopped there is no other single issue between communities who love and respect each other and go about with their regular spiritual and material life as one prefer. Mr Saldanha is not and will never go and speak the real cause of such incidents as in Mangalore which in anyway, for any reason, should never happen at all. Because, for obvious reasons, it is not his intention. There is a huge propaganda machine not just in India but around the world aided and funded by western religious powers. BBC and all other entities are tools of their communication network.

If you mad at your spouse, do you kick the dog to take out your frustration? Why beat up Nuns and innocent elderly people for conversion by the Missionaries. There are Missionaries in other religions too. Hare Krishna Panth is one example. Why one has to change his/her religion if he/she is firm believer in one’s own religion. You should understand the Freedom of Religion little better.

Dear Nelson, Zakir naik has said that the video where he is seen talking about osama is doctered and it was a video of 1998. Zakir naik has the right to preach his religion. Not only him the 1.8 billion muslims feel that islam is supreme. Thats our belief. If the 2 billion christians believe that Christianity is supreme , i should respect it. Its your belief. I am not forcing u to accept my belief. For eg apple says iphone is the best, samsung says samsung is the best. Let the buyers decide which is the best. Like how you said your statmenet below tht quran was copeid from other scriptures, zakir naik has the right to say that original words of jesus(pbuh) has been tampered with by human beings. Btw in the bible or torah there is no chapters on jesus(pbuh) and mother mary. But quran had seperate chapetrs on them and praising both. Where was this copied from? And why praise them? But i still find some of ur arguments valid. As i said earlier, if someone takes objection to his religious preaching its still valid and had logic. But here the muslimd are stading behing dr zakir naik is bcos he has been branded as terrorist. This is untrue. He is hero to many.

There was no mention of the underlying causes of this attack. un-ethical and illegal proselytizing. Rampant encroachment into Hindu space and blatant plagiarism of Hindu symbols and practices. the most notable act is preying on young Hindu children. you present it as if you are embodiment of virtue. the pictures speak. burning logs and tyres? look at the body language of your people. Your tone was both accusatory and sounded like you were justifying the “death” of the DY sp. how about doing a similiar report on the circumstances of death? • From Nelson Lewis on DMO to Protest Vilifying Campaign Against Dr Zakir Naik

Mr. Hanif, Dr. Zakir Naik is a big fraud who has taken advantage of mostly Muslims from the lower economic strata and institutions by professing to them the superior of Islam over other religions and, in return, enriching himself to become a multi-millionaire., Why is he now afraid to come to India to answer the queries of various agencies, if he has nothing to hide? If you see his Youtubes, at least in one of them he has praised that international terrorist, Osama bin Laden, who spent the last five or fix years of his life in a large mansion in Abbotabad, Pakistan (a terrorist country, whose madrassas are production factories for terrorists), married to four wives and still his appetite for sex was insatiable and when he was killed, it came to light he used to watch pornographic stuff and cache of pornographic stuff was found. Though, I strongly believe in Almighty God, who has created all of us and I am a Roman Catholic, nevertheless I firmly believe that all religions – be it past or present – are manmade and Almighty God had no role in creation of any religion. The oldest religions are Hinduism, Judaism, Zorastrianism, Jainism and Buddhism. How can Dr. Zakir Naik can say that Islam is the superior religion, when it has copied things from the Torah and Bible and came into existence only in 632 A.D.?

Indebted to Justice Michael Saldanha for the initiative shown .Not sure but i think majority of christian leaders stood by the community . Lots of people suffered as expressed by the numbers shown by Justice . The issue hear is where does this cynicism come from ? Did the government endorse the same ? Was it a Hindutva agenda ? What is Hindutva ? what purpose does / did it serve The world is in turmoil with ISIS and Islamist fanaticism . The call of Allah before an attack on innocent lives makes one draw a link to Islam and i really don’t want to take that issue up here . If possible search for what i write in responses to Times articles . What is of importance is why this hatred ? Does one neutralize a threat by propping an unlikely adversary . These days the RSS and its affilates look at christanity through blue lenses due to ISIS being aggressive . Does that mean the initial doubt has gone or just pushed under the carpet ? or does it mean it can focus on only one threat and does not want to instigate the other communities too . is this all about politics and religious -sociological balance Lots of questions need answering ? Path Ahead : is view through the lens of humanity and let bygones be bygones . Once again Justice , hats of for taking the bull by its horns .

The Mangalorean Catholic institutions, leaders and associations have done nothing to prevent a repetition of the horrors of the 2008 Church attacks. There have been no efforts at police reforms to make the police accountable to the people they serve and supposedly protect. Mangalorean Caltholic institutions, leaders and associations are too preoccupied imitating Western fads to think seriously about dealing with the important challenges facing the community.

Dear Brother Mr. Pai, As a Muslim there are many views of Zakir Naik that i do not agree with. I think the days of blindly believing someone is past us. But to brand him as a terrorist and hate monger is utter non sense. I urge you to watch one full talk of Dr Zakir Naik on Youtube on any subject. Not a news clip of 2-3 mins shown on news channels. You can Judge Dr. Zakir Naik after you listen to his one full talk. The reason i am saying this is i have been listening to some of his videos since last 10 years. It had made be a very peacfull person. I started respecting other religions more after hearing Zakir Naik. I learnt lot of good things from him. Whatver i disagreed with him, i ignored it. He has 14 million followers of FB, 200 Million watch him on Tv daily , so to brand him as a hate monger is a serious crime. And that is why people are protesting. Nobody would have protested is the core contention of Zakir Naik haters was that they don’t like his views about other religions. That would have been a valid argument. But here the media trial on Dr Zakir Naik is disgusting to say the least. With all humility, I urge you to be more rational in your critisim of Dr Zakir naik and the protest that is held today.

‘VHP Leader’ is a ‘suspect’ in a suicide case?? Ignoring how shamelessly press tries to defame VHP in a case that has nothing to do with VHP, what exactly does ‘suspect’ in a suicide case mean? Does he mean that he directly forced the victim to commit suicide? Or, he was named as one of the people by the victim before he took his own life? If so, how is it different from DySp Ganapathi case where he also named a few individuals including a minister before committing suicide? Why are stenographers not asking these simple questions?

Thank you very much, Mr. J.R. Lobo for being so thoughtful in promoting the idea of naming the Balmatta/Bendore Well Road in honor of late Mr. Blasius D’Souza. Having known the entire A. R. D’Souza family and their lifelong dedication towards the society in Mangalore, this is a most deserving gesture that you have made it into a reality. Providing the names of those most deserving individuals, particularly from our Christian community requires lot of courage and initiative on your part. Naming of the roads in honor of so many deserving dignitaries such as Blasius D’Souza will go down in history so that when our children as well as our grandchildren visit Mangalore they will be proud to feel and recollect the history of those distinguished individuals who have been one of the active pillars of our society that have made Mangalore as a dynamic city where we were born. Let the names of those deserving individuals shine and remain prominent in our minds so that our new generation will take pains to know the history of A. R. D’Souza and family who have given so much for our community amidst all the difficult life that prevailed in Mangalore. This is one way to encourage many more individuals of our community to give back much more to Mangalore so that their names also will be nominated in the future for any roads or lanes or streets where their names will make us feel proud that we knew them personally and were also acquainted with their esteemed families.

However, so long as you do not make an effort and become the District In-Charge of Mangalore, nothing will change. Constructing badly engineered roads, pavements and drainage in India is a big business – first to the Contractors and then to the Ministers who are in authority. It calls for Redoing what is already done – something like Research. In India, even for basic needs such as a garbage bin or a bus shelter, an MLA has to come forward to take credit. Where is the former MLC, Mr. Ivan D’souza – who is now appointed as THE WHIP for bad management – approach him and get things right so long as he is in the driver’s seat!

When I asked few students about the weight and reason why they take so many books, they said, “Teachers make us to bring all the books even we do not open some books in classroom” They do not have guidance as both Parents work and they get hand on i-Pads and Mobile phones at very young age which display scenes which Children of that age should not read nor see it. High expectations from adults also causes stress on these Angels without their fault. One side Parents and other side from school and comparison among Children, who is smarter and better. The illiterates on this forum should look at the the following two incidents and tell me if they see any hypocrisy!!! When Rohit Vemula unfortunately took his own life, he wrote – “This is my decision and I am the only one responsible for this.” Still, Congress and stenographers in media called it a ‘murder by Modi and Smriti Iraani’!!!! Now we have another tragic case of DySP Ganapathi’s suicide. He clearly put the blame on Congress govt and a minister. Still, Congress is trying to blame this on his ‘family issues’ while stenographers are hiding under tables!!!!

  • From Max E Rasquinha on St Lawrence Shrine Attur all set to be 'Minor Basilica'

Identifying Basilicas and many other places that deserve Tourist attraction is very important in countries such as India. The history of Christianity in India is an admirable fact for many tourists to understand the journey of St. Thomas to India as an Ambassador of Jesus more than 2000 years ago and the dedication of St. Thomas in India who then paved way for St. Francis Xavier to appear after Vas co da Gama. Christianity in India may still be a negligible portion as compared to the vast population of Hindus and Moslems, yet the handful of Christians in India and their dedication of patriotism towards Education, Medication and many other social and economic contributions are worthy of being made aware so that existing and future generation may appreciate the secular values that prevail in democratic country such as India. Particularly the foreign tourists are ever increasing in India and therefore any focus rendered by the Government as well as the private sectors in expanding the exposure of Christian involvement in India will be of mutual benefit to all.

What is the use of the State’s Additional D.G.P. (C.I.D.) conducting an investigation in the death of the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Mangalore? Mr. Pratap Reddy has to dance to the tune of his political bosses and, in no way, can he afford to disenchant them. He has to see to his career and no one joins I.P.S. if he is straight-forward, honest and no nonsense man. Otherwise, they will wreck their careers. Many I.P.S. Officers who were truly honest have quit this highly corrupt system. Only a retired High Court Judge, who is fair and square and will not act as per the Chief Minister’s or Home Minister’s biddings, should have been assigned the investigation in this matter. The C.I.D. probe is just a wash up. Moreover, K.J. George, who is in the spotlight, will hush up the matter and light candles in the Church seeking Almighty’s forgiveness for his sins. I do not know if Syrian Christians undergo confessions. If that is the case, he may undergo confessions.

Mr. Nicholas, You may be right, as you are from that region and know things much better than me. I concede. However, in I.P.S. if you wish to become a Commissioner of Police of a large city or metropolis or D.G.P., you have to be a toadie and His Master’s Voice of the Chief Minister and Home Minister concerned. There are allegations that either one has to be that or pay hefty sums to get a plum posting. The same may be very much applicable to Superintendents of Police, etc. Many years ago, I came across an official in one of the top brass’ office and while departing I said, “Thank you very much for your help and by the way what is your good name?” I forget his first name, but his surname was that of a Maharashtrian Brahman and he said he was Sr. Superintendent of Police. I reckoned, he may have been in his late 50s and due for retirement. I felt, he may retire on the same rank. He may have been an upright officer and that is why he did not make much headway and working like a Head Clerk in one of the headquarters. In the first half of the first decade of the turn of this century, I was told that the Commissioner of Police of that time would touch the feets of his political masters, the moment he saw them.

Things appear to be very bad in Karnataka under the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, who is obsessed with VIP culture, has an inflated ego and feels he is a Tsar and acts like the way a feudal lord behaves with his tenants. Under his tenure, the police machinery is in a mess. Why cannot he get that Home Minister, K.J. George, sacked? A thorough investigation has to be done by C.B.I. and not the State C.I.D., who will carry out their political masters biddings and sweep everything under the rug. I have always maintained that government employment, including police, is not meant for honest people working as per their conscience and serving the people. The Government does not expect employees to serve the people, but serve their professional and political masters and help them to make money through dubious ways. So what, underlings can also make some money in the process? If bureaucrats and government employees, be it in Central or those of various State Governments, been transparent, honest and upright and been united and banded together to fight evil practices, the ministers and politicians would have been wary, worked hard with fright and one would not have heard of scandals, irregularities and corrupt practices. I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and near-and-dear ones of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, M.K. Ganapathi and may Almighty God, our Supreme Creator, please help and guide them in these difficult times. On the electronic media, I happened to listen to his interaction with the journalists and reporters and I got the impression that he lacked the arrogance, swagger and the rough veneer that most police officers display. I felt he was in a wrong profession and I can only utter the Urdu words, “Razia, goondon mey fas gayey.”

“It’s truly a miracle that sanathana dharma wasn’t wipe out – ORP There were quite a few reasons why Hindu Dharma was not wiped out. 1. In India when Moghul rule began in the very beginning there was zero tolerance towards people outside the people of the book – a term used primarily for Jews, Christians and Sabeans (a now defunct religious group in Arabia with monotheistic beliefs). The stark choice Hindus had was to covert or die. Later, when they saw the sheer multitudes of the millions they had to kill, Hindus were given the status of the people of the book, and Jiziya was collected from them too. All Indian history confirms that Hindus paid Jaziya. If a Hindu could not pay they took away their young children, the son`s were groomed for the army and girls went to their harems. Hence, the Moghul’s got ALL what they wanted, to rule, lots of money and lots of woman – sex slaves as we see in Iraq and Syria. This prompted “Sati” where Hindu noble woman chose to die, rather than become sex salves. 2. Hindu Kings and rulers like Mahrana Pratap, Shivaji, Guru Gobind Singh (and the Sikhs in particular) just to name a few checked their advances. 3.Getting in from the North of India to the South India the terrain was very difficult and inhospitable. Hence, by and large the south of India though did have pockets and short time frames of Muslim rule, but by and large it was not as bad as it was in the North. 4. The British in India, I am not a great fan of the British, but they too played a great role in over throwing Muslim rule and taking the reins of power from them. The invasions over a 1000 years have left a great toll. Bill Durants book `The take over of India“ says it is the single largest genocide in the history of the world – 80 million dead and counting. The break of India, and the ongoing tensions with nuclear armed rivals gives a scary picture should war break out.

Most of the homeless people have either mental issues or serious drug addiction problem. Overwhelming majority of poor people here have a standard of life that can only be matched by upper middle class/rich in India. How many poor people in India have air conditions, refrigerators, microwaves, cars, laptops, Wifi, smart phones and a decent apartment? Then again, how do I explain these things to a person who has never seen a developed country ??? Joker Pinto is a joker for a reason!! LOL

I would have been pleased to see the senior Muslim leaders in Saudi, Egypt hold those banners from the pulpit of mosques. A child and some children carry banner the size of an A4 or larger will not make much difference to the world’s 1.2 billion Muslims. However, if Muslim masses are serious they should totally first renounce Jihad, and all forms of violence, even at home. Give woman, minorities and the different sects of Islam equal rights, in particular those living in Muslim dominated lands. Jaziya a penalty paid by non Muslims and to forced to live in subjugation as second class citizens with little or no rights should be over and done with, never to return. Sharia (Islamic Law) is another bone of contention, that discriminates against non Muslims and even Muslims of some sects are persecuted in their countries. Long story short democracy and freedom for ALL and we will all live happily ever after.

Very sad and unfortunate for the family to lose a young man from the family. This bus even today being a holiday and less traffic with no much of traffic, no road blocks should not be plying on this road. This bus had to go State Bank via Jyothi. The traffic police should be stringent and should not allow any bus plying via Joythi to State Bank to ply via Falnir since the drivers are reckless and always rash and the Mother Teresa road is quite narrow for unwanted traffic. Abolish the private bus mafia and then see the difference.

  • From Robert Pais on 34-year-old Sarfraz from Goa Killed in Road Mishap in City

Nothing is going to happen- unless we see a general trend to follow traffic rules. driving within speed limits is not something that is only in the books but needs to be enforced. How to enforce it but to collect heavy fines on a daily basis. Employing a full time police squad in arterial roads – with speed detection and documenting with video – should incur a first time fine. If there is repeat against the Driving licence then automatic court hearing should be the case. Lack enforcement on a regular and sustained manner is not happening. This therefore reflects the deficiency on the part of the police in Mangalore City. THIS late of response to even an accident ( delay) is a clear evidence for absence of traffic enforcement squad on patrol. Traffic police salaries within the cities should come from the MCC and therefore tax from the residents of Mangalore- Just see that effect of that within a year – smart move to smart city? Accountability of every one ( Police, MCC, residents) will cure these chronic issues facing Mangaloreans. Presently there is a total lack of accountability.

This is a step in the right direction. This is not enough. This community must renounce doctrine of armed jihad. They need to emphasize less on religion and more on modernity, science, education and human progress. The dogmatic infallibility and the false sense of superiority are not unique to this group. Every religion seems to have made the same mistake to varying degrees. However, this group seems to be the last one to still believe in it. It’s time to stop and realize the full human potential.

I’m glad that he didn’t blame automobiles or cancer as they also kill more people than his peaceful friends on an average!!! Seriously, how old is this guy? How can one be this stupid at his age? Too much consumption of beef or ‘saudi’ experience??? Does he have any idea how many people get killed by Police in India? Is he going to use those numbers to provide cover for his peaceful friends from other side of the border? What a joker!

Maybe then, your Athma will find some peace. See, this is what happened. In the early 80’s, Yumreeki visa interviews were ALL conducted on Skype. C’mon….. back then, there was a MUCH BETTER version of what is called ‘Skype’ now. (Don’t believe it? Well, remember, the 1st test-tube was born in hastinapura, Dritarashtra watched TV, the first head transplant was done in ANCIENT India…. remember those ‘FACTS’ as perpetrated by your RSS chaddis?? So why NOT have Skype in some Somalian city back in the 80’s? Huh?) Anyway…. before I forget…. on Skype, back then, one could see things crystal clear… you new-fangled TV’s PALE in comparison to the ones back then. The audio was better than Bose or Klipsch surround sound speakers. Anyway, to cut a short story long…… this is what happened when some Yumreeki joker “interviewed” me for my alleged Yumreeki Visa interview. There I was sleeping… late on a Monday morning…. and some Joker calls me on my iPhone 8 on skype and says – “Hey.. Mr. Praveenaaaa Pintoooo……may I call you ‘Pint’ for short?…. this is Jim Beam, from the US consulate in Madras”.. or was his name – Jack Daniels or..Johnny Walker or Makenna Goldman or Dunkin Donuts? “And I’m gonna interview you for your US visa application. K?” Me: Thinking to myself….Kon re vo bekup? Sakalin pode…. Somara sakalin? and say to him…. “Yo man… call me ‘Pint’ or quarter or litre….just shoot”. Jim Beam – “Well, APPARENTLY we have received an application for your Job in the US. Your pal Original RampaNNA, your sponsor has applied for your visa. I just need to verify a few facts, k?” Me: “Job? In the US? You wanking me silly early morning… pullya kaande and that too on Somavaara when my thare is dunna’?” JB: Mr. Pint…. err, I don’t speak Tamil. Me: Makai gotthu na re bekupa. JB: Good. So we are on the same page. Me: Yup… so it seems…. JB: So, I’m gonna send you a few 100 sheets of paper. You gotta fill them out and once done, scan and send them to me on Whatsapp, plz. And you’re good to go to the US. Me: What? Paper? Some 100 sheets? C’mon JB, I ONLY use water after nature’s call. So, what will I do with unc Sam’s 100 sheets of papyrus? Rewrite the Iliad and Odyssey on it? Distribute it to my all-Indian neighbors? c’mon… they are all geriatrics. they use adult pampers. JB: Hmm… so you don’t wanna come to the land of Makennas Gold, eh? Or, is your pal, RampaNNA, playing a prank with you? Me: Damn right, Monday morn is Sunday night for that Jobless chap….Prank… gotcha.. it’s one, you CRANK! Itthe Poya vora! rattlaya! JB: VanaKKAM saar…. we respect your wishes. CLICK…. I disconnect JB’s Skype call… utter a few expletives and sleep till noon. ——————————————————————————————————————– See, THAT is exactly how I DECLINED my Yumreeki ‘eeza’. “Mohammed….” – Report I’m genuinely worried about disproportionate involvement of a much smaller community in these anti-social, criminal activities. It’s quite obvious that decades of ‘vote bank’ politics by Congress has alienated this community and indirectly pushed them into high rate of illiteracy and unemployment. More focus on family planning, education and less emphasis on religion can save this community from a total collapse. I have no reason to believe that Congress party or stenographers in media would either acknowledge or try to address this unfortunate reality. I request Sangha Parivaara to come forward and help this community to come out of this sad situation. It’s in the best interest of majority community to help, educate minority communities and bring them into mainstream.

I don’t think it is a priority to install high mast lights at the park, rather it should have been installed at the Nanthur Junction. The reason being once darkness falls, the visibility falls. It is dark, especially for the pedestrians. This junction being such an important one, there are no lights, no signals, the only illumination is from the hoarding. Otherwise it would be pitch dark. I don’t understand why this junction is being ignored.

“Little do you know how much India exports & fish is in short supply because of excessive exports” … you said it, and so I reiterate it is all about supply and demand & and if I may add that traders are always looking for higher income and diversification. Traders have two choices to sell locally where there is a demand or they export, where there is an equal or higher demand. We owned and operated an export house so let me give you an example of basmati rice. In India the average store sells 10-15% basmati rice and 85-90% is non basmati, whereas in export it is the other way around. Hence, what is sold in foreign stores that has not been seen in Mangalore/India for many years Though they do sell some of their produce locally a large part is exported because any businessman sees where they get a better deals and/or other incentives & advantages. Here are some of the advantages of exporting, just to name a few. 1. If everything is dumped in the local market there will be a glut, and prices will fall drastically. 2. Foreign buyers are willing to pay higher prices for superior quality of products. 3. They are definitely getting a very fair price especially when getting paid in foreign currency. 4. It is sold in bulk, dealing with just a handful of importers & wholesalers and MOST IMPORTANTLY PROMPT AND GURANTEED PAYMENT METHODS. 5. Export incentives by the government and getting paid in foreign currencies has many advantages and without going into details, there is room for manipulation in many cases. 6. Exporters are allowed to import plant & machinery, and as automation will increase productivity, profitability and meet foreign standards. And if they do not want to import themselves, there is huge demand for import permits/licenses with perks of little or no import duties

Uniform civil code for the citizens The State shall endeavour to secure for the citizens a uniform civil code throughout the territory of India Endeavour means it can be implemented only after concurrence of the religious leaders of all the faiths and also of all the sects ,denominations etc within the faiths. This is quite the opposite of enforcing. and this can be only done throughout the country . The word “state” mentioned in article 44 means “ country” as it clearly mentions that the state shall endeavour to implement throughout the country. In short it means that 1) It cannot be enforced and implemented only through consensus 2) It cannot be implemented selectively in few states rather it needs to be implemented all over the country. Moreover constitutional rights is not a state subject

I certainly disagree with Mr. Jay’s opinion and comments – it’s all about supply and demand. Little do you know, how much food India exports – the largest exporter of Beef in the world!- must have read this article when Indians were making noise on TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT BEEF! Visit any Gulf country, and one will be shocked to find in all the supermarkets, hypermarkets, in all Indian Stores, the best of Indian Rice, Lentils, Cooking Oils, Ghee,Pulses and including Indian Mutton, Beef, Chicken and Fish available in tons to feed one and all. So if Supply and Demand is the case – how can India afford to export food? Mangalore and Udupi have shortage of fish mainly because if one visits the main Fishing Port in Malpe before the monsoon ban is mainly because of excessive fishing and excessive exports to Goa, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu – you can see the amount of trucks leave with fish every morning and evening.

It is all about demand and supply. With the sharp increase in population, and the scanty minimum resources available in the next few decades ALL Indians will have a very rough time as food and water will become very, very scarce. This will lead to anarchy and total breakdown of the law and order and all branches of government if the population as the have not’s will resort to stealing and violence to satisfy their basic vegetative function of hunger and thirst. As per the World Health Organization (WHO) India’s population stands at over 1.4 billion, with close to 50% of its population less than age 21. This means once they marry in the next 25 years India’s population could easily cross 2 billion, and in the next 50/75 years it will double again to anywhere over 4 billion. Very scary stats and each and every one needs to act NOW, RIGHT NOW !!!! This is a very serious matter and only the Indian people take drastic measures to control an explosion of the human race.

  • From Robert Pais on How to get admitted to hospitals when arrested?

Very well written article Professor.I hope this does not give ideas to future ” patients” of influence(affluence). I congratulate the Mangalorean.com for publishing articles high lighting pertinent issues to Mangalorean citizens . If one sees the statistics of major death penalty cases in our country – almost all belong to poor people or PBLs. This indicates that there is disparity in our law enforcement , our legal system , stacked against the poor people. It means for the same crime , poorer get punished more severely when the rich may get away with it. The odds are biased against the poor( quite the opposite to what the present case is indicating us). The evidence in numbers speaks for itself. Clearly all Indian citizens are not equal. It is because of this inequality the people with money and power take more courage and do brazen crimes at the same time manage to save their neck. Outsourcing is a parallel that goes well with the present case( people who carried out the actual deed) and the mastermind( the “kidney patient”) as well to the suicide bombers who are recruited and brainwashed and their family is compensated only after their act of sacrifice. The accused is influential enough to have media pictures of him with top politicians and lawmakers of the country floating around in social media. The people should be angry that he has brought bad name to Mangalore and to law abiding GSB community. Silence is not the wise move here.

See, nanna preethiya phoreen Rampa, If you were to be speaking in Hindi (like your BJP ex-Physics professor, Raajaanaatha Singha – and that makes me wonder how on the seat of his RSS chaddi he was explaining stuff such as Bernoulli’s Theorem, Theory of Relativity, Newton’s Laws etc.) and used the word “Bharatha”, it would have been understandable. However, we are all writing in English out here. So, why use the word “Bharatha”? And then again, I happen to have an Indian passport and by Captain Haddock’s euphemistic oath – “Billions of bilious blue blistering barnacles”, NOWHERE does it mention the word “Bharatha” or “Bharat” or that ridiculous ‘Akhaaandaaa Bharathaa”. Mr Alfie, complaint to MCC is like Dog Chasing the tail. I call almost everyday regarding the death traps around the City. But I had to call almost dozen times or visit the office of in-charge with Photos to prove. Junior Engineers don’t give a damn even after told by Chief Executive Engineers. I have witnessed it. Even when I tell them, they cross question Me,but they do not understand that We tax Payers pay their wages. They think that they do favors. But the result of all this efforts at my cost of driving, photo processing and my time is like Pouring Water On Rock, nothing grows. Look at the junction at Nanthoor Circle. Contractor did His half ass job of resurfacing road in rainy weather to make money for Him and Corrupt Politicians. Now all the fine gravel is spread and yesterday 2 Lady Bikers fell and rickshaw skidded. Traffic Police witnessed and I have called Commissioner’s Office on 28th in front of them. Let us see how many will fall and how many will die. Look at the junction of Kadri-Mallikatta Road with Arya Samaj Road near Inland Monarch Building. Informed Executive Engineer 6 times, finally a junior Engineer sent Jugul Contractor Supervisor on Saturday. I met Him and showed the serious problem of life and death. Now 4 days passed and not a gravel moved. Slab cover over the gutter is collapsed and any time death due to fall is possible. Go take a ride on Alvares Road near Doctors Lane and look at the misery in Smart-Stupid City. People in the area called City Office and end result is zero.

I do not read any Surathi stuff, nor watch Beejakumara films, as in my film watching days I was very much addicted to Hollywood movies and some artistic Hindi films. During my teens, I watched some Marathi films in which the comedian, Dada Kondke, has acted. Some people considered his films to be vulgar, because his comments had double meanings and one could not watch his films with family, especially females and children, as it would be an embarrassing experience.

Mr. Praveen Pinto, I was referring to those engineers who are the products of Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and not from say, Muttuswamy (or Moodbidri) Institute of Technology. I also understand that there is Manipal Institute of Technology, abbreviation: MIT, which normally internationally stands for Massuchussetts Institute of Technology, a world famous engineering institution. I agree that Manipal Institute of Technology may be good, but certainly it is not a world class set-up. At the latest count, there are 16 to 17 IITs in India and I was referring to them and not to some run-of-the-mill institutions that go by fancy or misleading names. Every year, representatives from foreign (mostly U.S.) multi-nationals and reputed Indian business houses offer jobs to IIT-qualified engineers, who are the elite or the cream and 80% go to America. In short, IITs are mainly export-oriented firms. I have never come across an IIT product employed in the Arabian Gulf. If you say that you have seen ones I am talking about, then God bless you and you are very fortunate and I should shake your hands when and if our paths cross each other’s. If you say there are Indian Chartered Accountants in Arabian Gulf, I wholly agree. However, compared to developed and economically advanced countries, where accounting practices are very complex, B.Coms. and M.Coms. are more than sufficient to cope with work in Arabian Gulf countries, because besides general accounting, there are no other works like computation of income tax, sales tax, octroi, municipal tax, provident fund, gratuity, professional tax, bonus and advising the directors and management in investing funds. Even good Chartered Accountants do not prefer to work in the Arabian Gulf because they may not get the job satisfaction and reasons for that may be varied: i.e. the organization does not have an image and/or is a trading set-up or he is reporting to a boss, who presently is General Manager or so, but thirty years ago, he may have joined as an office boy or car washer, but he was his master’s obedient servant, flunkey and eyes and ears. So, due to lack of education, he is an ….-.ole, but cunning and conniving like typical Indian netas. Few organizations and entities in Arabian Gulf are professional and most owners of business have “petty trader” mindset, rather than preferring to run their organizations professionally, because they do not believe in “image” concept that separates Tatas, Infosys, Wipro, Tisco, etc. from others. Some of the Chartered Accountants working in the Arabian Gulf are fringe elements, who have swallowed their pride and work because the financial package is too good.

But then, trust me, there are many around in the Arabian Gulf and a good percentage of them possess a MASTERS from IIT – eg., Civil, structural, geoscience, chemical, hydraulics, naval architecture etc.). Most of them work for Oil giants (Clients and/or Top notch Service providers) such as Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC), Saudi Aramco, Abu Dhabi Natl Oil Co. (ADNOC) – UAE, Qatar Petroleum (QP) – Qatar, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) – Oman, Kuwait Oil Co (KOC), Kuwait Natl Oil Co (KNPC), British Petroleum, Total, Shell, Schlumberger, Halliburton/Baker Hughes etc.

On the electronic media, I went through 32 countries with the worst human right records and the first place is held by North Korea, second is Saudi Arabia, 3rd is Iran, 4th is Afghanistan, 5th is China and so on and so forth. In this list are countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, both the Sudans, Congo, Uganda, Chad, Central African Republic, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, etc.

Acquiring a B.Tech. from I.I.T. is a very prestigious thing and over 700,000 aspirants sit for the entrance examinations and the top 3,500 get admissions in any given year. If some candidates have stood say 3,501, 3,502 and so on, then they are out. I forget the name of the American (of Indian origin) gentleman who did B.Tech. from I.I.T. and did his Masters in America. He said that after having done his Bachelor’s at I.I.T., he found doing Masters at the College of a reputed American University just a cake walk. Therefore, nearly 80% of I.I.T. products are grabbed by American Corporations and Multi-Nationals and many of them are holding important positions in America. I have not come across a single I.I.T. engineer in Arabian Gulf. As far as I know, examintions to get an entry into any of the I.I.T. is very tough and Americans agree that I.I.T. engineers are far superior to any engineers produced by their best institutions.

It was shocking to hear that a truck carrying poultry collided at a village near Karkala, resulting in injury to driver and many birds being either killed or hurt. Instead of helping in the injured driver and also helping him to retrieve whatever poultry they could, they just take home whatever birds they could lay their hands on. Then, there are some people who brag about India’s rich heritage, culture and virtues. I agree with Original R. Pai that Japanese are honest people and during tsunami they did not steal anything. That is why I always stress that it is no use being pseudo-religious and indulge in all sorts of crimes and sins, but one should be God-fearing.

“No one seemed to bother about the driver” ….not one, this is sad. Though Mangalore/India do have their share of caring people, it is pathetic and distressing to see how the overage man on the street reacts to an accident or a calamity. How can I gain from this? and what is in it for me? May God bless India….we need lots of it.

Most of those who get qualified for IIT are not special either. One would be surprised by the amount of coaching and preparation that go into IIT courses. Many in Hyderabad and Chennai begin the training in 9th standard. Yes – the preparation for IIT starts from 9th standard!! This has been going on since late 80s!! One of my friends/distant family member had his coaching class at 4:30 am in the morning!!! Only God knows what kind of preparations are done these days!! This also explains why only a few cities supplied almost all IIT students while rest of the country had zero chance. Things have slightly changed these days with new coaching centers coming up all over. IIT was the easiest way to get into American Universities back in 70s, 80s and 90s. Some of them academically did very well while most of them ended up in ordinary engineering profession here. This probably explains why IITs have failed to produce a single Nobel laureate or a single worldwide patent!!! In India, our focus is always on highest paying field, not on what we truly want to be!! If pottery becomes the highest paying industry, all of our 99%-scoring bight students will apply for courses in pottery!! A nation of followers, not leaders!!

No ya Rampa.. ONLY YOU are special although you have done some 5 day course in some ITI (BASIC, Fortran, Cobol, etc). On another note, it is actually GREAT to hear our PM speak out against your Subbi Swami’s loose and biased remarks about our RBI Gov – Raghuram Rajan(not to mention his later rants against the CEA – Arvind Subramanian and EAS of India – Shaktikanta Das). Now, THAT has EXACTLY what the nation has wanted to see and hear. He has ticked OFF that loose-cannon called Subbi Swami BIG time. (If I’m not mistaken, our Cacofonix – Garnab Arswami will bring in our MR(I) Vankatesha and THAT silly head n Shoulders model – Rahula Ishwara, Brinda Karat(a), Derek O’Brein et al into some debate on this issue…. sooner of not later. What say, Rampa?

This report is very troubling for more than one reason. God-given opportunity?? It’s disgusting how humans don’t give a damn about dying animals/birds. Besides, these incidents question the overall morality of our society. This is not the first time we heard about ‘villagers’ walking away with items that don’t belong to them in the first place. It could be a vehicle transporting chicken or petrol or bus filled with passengers. Around 20 yrs ago, one of my friends was in a bus travelling from Mangaluru to Karkala that met with an accident. The ‘villagers’ who showed up at the scene were more interested in collecting wallets and other valuables than helping injured ones. We always talk about corruption and blame it all on political leaders. But,we as a society are corrupt to the core. Political leaders are just an extension of our own society reflecting our own values!!! This is the ugly reality that we don’t want to admit. Then you wonder why we continue to be a third world nation!!!!

Well, those who know these areas clearly know what he meant by ‘youth’ here!! smiles….These areas are similar to Kalladka, Kannuru and parangipete!!! Then again, I respect the the unwritten laws of modern day reporting!! LOL On a different note, drugs should be legal.
