  • From Deepika Shetty on Mangaluru : Tata-Sky CSRs are the 'WORST' People to Deal with in Solving your TV Channels Issues

What D’souza had experienced dealing with customer service people at Tata Sky call center, me too had gone through that ordeal for the last two weeks- and still no one has come to fix the problems. Bad and pathetic service-all I can say about Tata-Sky company reps.

Sorry – This report reminds me of those guys who blame provocative dress for women getting raped!! This trend of blaming the victims has to stop. These women have all the rights to wear golden chain and move without fear especially in an urban area during day time!!! What this shows is an increase in criminal behavior and stealing in our society. Police Dept needs to step up and address the situation.

When the whole world marches on towards progress, we are steadily or rather rapidly moving backwards. The present government at the center as well as, in Maharastra are unaware that it is easier to slide backwards but takes ages to cover the lost ground. There is always a limitation to the stupidity but here in India, there is no limit to utter stupidity. Dubai, though not a democratically run government, believes in democracy, the needs of people and above all strive hard to maintain law and order and gain momentum in progressing themselves as one of the most sort after place for visit, work and live. Shame on us.

Good for them. They can regulate the crowds better now. Matthew saar can sit and eat now rather than standing and waiting.

  • From Rosh on If Pork is Served Freely in Dubai, Why not Serve Beef in Mumbai?

Beef ban is intended to make the farmers of Maharashtra further poor by not allowing them to sell even the unproductive cattle so that out of sheer poverty they will agree to sell their precious farm land to grabbers at pea nuts. This is what Rahul Gandhi said in the parliament. First make the farmers poor and then hit them hard with the Land ordinance Bill.

  • From Anand Dsilva on If Pork is Served Freely in Dubai, Why not Serve Beef in Mumbai?

It is because some fanatic Hindus who hate Muslims and Christians want to show their dominance over them. For centuries Indians of various religions must have been eating beef and our ancestors knew it but they were hardly bothered as those who did not want to eat simply abstained from it. When I read comments on articles related to this topic, I come across various people who are living outside India where beef is available but they want to be banned in India citing it hurts their religious beliefs. If that so, how do they live almost all their life in foreign countries. This doesn’t mean all Hindus are against it. Currently anti religious sentiment in India is at a all time high thanks to the ruling party that has invoked religion to polarize people and get maximum share of vote from the majority community.

  • From shAikH moHD rizwaan on If Pork is Served Freely in Dubai, Why not Serve Beef in Mumbai?

Dear readers, There is no religious compulsion to the ‘Go Matha’ for BJP, accept that this trade of ‘Pink revolution’ has deeply associated with the economic conditions of Muslims of India. While Swami vivekananda to Hindu religious scriptures openly talking about the consumption, the RSS political wing BJP made this political issue to grab the Hindu vote bank showing sympathy to suffering of cows by fellow Muslim citizens of this nation. If BJP ruled Goa is free to sell ‘Beef’ why can’t rest of India under BJP ruled state follow the suit? As per Hindu religious scripture when the demon Hiranyaksha stole the earth and hid her in the primordial waters, Vishnu appeared as Varaha to rescue her. Varaha slew the demon and retrieved the Earth from the ocean, lifting it on his tusks, and restored Bhudevi to her place in the universe. Indeed ‘Wild boar’ has more significance than cow.Why does only cow became dear to RSS ruled BJP not ‘Wild boar’? How does BJP ruled state justify the use of other derivatives of beef trade which in one or the other form used in Pharmaceuticals, photo industry, Fashion etc? Does RSS pass ‘Farman’ ask his volunteers tie the Chaddis with ropes instead of Hide and ask to wear Synthetic shoes during ‘Path Sanchalan’? Why did BJP ruled states banned only cow when Vedas name atleast 250 animals for sacrificial cause? Why did BJP is afraid to debate the subject in public and attach religious compulsion? Why did it banned the D.N.Jha book on the truth of ‘Myth of holy cow’? http://kathleenwhite1971.blog.com/2014/04/02/the-myth-of-the-holy-cow-pdf-download/ “Why do not political parties buy the cows instead of us and ensure them a decent life? This is not about protecting cows, it is about playing politics,” Jai Hind

  • From A. S. Mathew on If Pork is Served Freely in Dubai, Why not Serve Beef in Mumbai?

There is no other democratic country in the world like India with varying fundamental laws affecting the citizens of the same country. Citizens residing in the six States of the Union don’t have the fundamental right to change religion through the rigid laws enacted; thus infringing the fundamental right. The citizens of those States can move to the neighboring States and change religion. Now another greatly surprising law prohibiting the food consumption. Even today, massive export of beef is conducted from various States of India and the people of the vast majority of the States can consume beef; but the unfortunate people of Maharastra will be hit with jail term up to 5 years and penalty of Rs. 10000.00 for handling beef. The State of Haryana’s degree of punishment will be double for the same sin committed in Maharastra. The Home Minister was so fervent in the earlier days to enact a national “beef ban” and anti-conversion laws with the highly charged inspiration from Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, but now keeping a mysterious silence. Why? The Home Minister at least must instruct the Haryana Government to be fair and equal with the great and holy Maharastra Government in penalizing the residents of Haryana; thus some equality in the largest democratic country.

One of the best Article i have read about Academic culture in Mangalore. Very well written and so true to the modern scenario . All wants their children to be engineers and then follow up by MBA. what about pure sciences. nearly 90% of Mangaloreans don’t know the carrier choices after SSLC. They just think either Medical or Engineering so they join Science.Parents think if you above 70% in SSLC then Science….above 50% but below 70% then Commerce….rest below 50% arts. This is totally bad and very cruel on part of the child. I would like to read more and more such articles as it may benefit the general public.Dr.Maya please publish such articles in local linguistic papers as it will help general public a lot

But the 30-year-old Mr Zaveri has not been able to occupy his property because many of his prospective Hindu neighbours do not want to live next to a Muslim. For the last few months, residents of the Krishna Nagar neighbourhood have been sitting outside Mr Zaveri’s property, chanting Hindu prayers and banging metal plates in protest. This week, the issue earned national attention after the leader of an extremist Hindu organisation delivered a speech in which he allegedly urged the residents to occupy the property by force and not to fear the law. “Go with stones, tyres and tomatoes,” Pravin Togadia, president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), reportedly said. Kaamannna Anil needs learn a few lessons!! @ Sharia Shaikh – Being a strong follower of an old tribal ideology, you are unfit to understand the basics of privacy and individual rights. We don’t have any right to question what two consenting adults do in their privacy. However, if there is any abuse, damage or violence, we have an obligation to look into and investigate the matter. In order to understand this modern, libertarian principles, you first need to stop reading the old book written back in medieval times by a bunch of tribal males.

So, a Bengaluru issue has to be resolved and approved by a distant Vatican ? This reminds me more of a political party than a religion. This also explains why some folks never understand the idea of ‘sthala-sampradaaya’ (local tradition). I have seen some of these guys including joker Praveena Pinto questioning Udupi or Subrahmanya temple traditions without any understanding of how ‘sthala-sampradaaya’ works. I can’t blame him – After all, all he knows is how to look for an approval from distant headquarters!! LOL

It is good to see that at long last the language issue in the Archdiocese of Bangalore has been resolved. There was no better strategy than to have people other than associated with the Bangalore Diocese to study the situation and propose a satisfactory solution to the gnawing problem which has prevailed for over forty years. The duly constituted trio like Emeritus Archbishop Thomas Menaparampil of Gauwati, Bishop Agnelo Gracias of Mumbai and Bishop Thomas Dabre of Pune were the best choice. I join several others faithful in saying kudos to Archbishop Bernard Moras for the trouble and initiative taken by him in his concept for an amicable settlement of the issue. May The Holy Spirit guide all concerned to adhere to the plan and LIVE IN PEACE AND HARMONY. Joe Gonsalves

  • From drona on Bengaluru: Archdiocese finally finds permanent solution for long-standing language issue

I wonder what Fr Cedric Prakash AJ has to say on this issue of languages. Prof Praveena may not have a problem with language from down South. He needs to visit Bangalore and see the problem there. The actual majority is reduced to a minority. Kannada speaking church goers end up taking a back seat whereas some Arokiasami will be at the altar. Of course there is always this allegation against the Mangaloreans who speak in Konkani but are a dominant force despite their smaller numbers compared to the Kannada speaking brethren. So what is the conclusion? Is it different strokes for different folks? Or is it that all are equal but some are more equal? Or is it ‘the senior amongst equals syndrome”? Incidentally Bangalore bandh is being observed today. This of course is to protest against the Tamilians who demand the share of Cauvery water. [Mekedaatu dam] Cauvery feeds the Tanjore delta which produces paddy. [Good quality] There should be some understanding between the Southern states in these matters and this matter also should be sorted out once and for all. Do we have to refer this matter also to the Vatican? Or is it just enough to refer it to the golden lady? Oops. That was before 16h May 2014 guys. Almost forgot. No problem though. Praveena can google and give some suggestion which he so readily does. God bless his spirit. [Of offering free unsolicited advice]

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Bengaluru: Archdiocese finally finds permanent solution for long-standing language issue

Language is purely a mode of communication. Thru the benefit of the language we interact with people and survive day after day and exist and co-exist in our daily pattern of life. Language between a human being and the Almighty is something that is unique. It is the language of faith that can be any language so long as we know that we are communicating internally with God and satisfy ourselves that we have conveyed our daily message thru our faith, love and respect towards God. All our childhood days we have prayed within our home in Konkany, and we went to our nearby churches where the liturgical services were in Latin and the rest of the prayers including the homily was in Konkany. We recited Latin prayers and felt fully convinced that we followed the solemnity of the liturgy and felt strongly convinced that we interacted with God in every step of the way. While in America many times we have taken part in the liturgical services that were in Spanish and internally we still recited a language that was dear to us and known to us. We fully appreciate that in Karnataka State the language of Kannada will eventually dominate the liturgy, and our faith in God that is so deep will continue to prevail, and gradually we shall catch up with the Lords Prayer also in Kannada, hopefully before we move towards our eventually destiny.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Mangaluru: PWD Releases Rs 6 crore for Tannirbavi-Sultan Battery Suspension Bridge

Every little connection either thru a bridge or a street, every extension and expansion to the existing roadways will pave way for progress in the mobility system of our life in Mangalore. Each and every highway has to be expanded, broadened and brightened with lights, connected with telephone lines with the help of more uniformed officers on the road to control the traffic, avoid any blockage and also avoid any misuse. Violators need be punished. Throwing of garbage and filth on the road should be forbidden, with a few rest facilities for people to take a break, if needed. With growing population, and also with growing youth with permission to drive a vehicle or a auto or a motor bike, there will be always an upward trend of traffic. Obviously these users of mobility will pay handsome taxes that should enable the planners to think big on the road systems and facilities. A small bridge connecting Tannir Bavi will be a small contribution in the right direction. Thank you, Mr. J. R. Lobo for your thoughtful insight.

An illegal hutment, is illegal anywhere in the world, irrespective of it’s occupants, whether people from Karnataka or Timbuktu. A person appointed in the Indian constitution should know this better. It’s sad that an educated politician from Karnataka should take a stand on revenge on IT professionals from Goa working in Bangalore, if illegal hutments are demolished in Goa. Whatever gives him the authority and the right to mean in his derogatory statement In fact, this minister should also follow the footsteps of Goa, and arrange to demolish all illegal hutments and shops in Karnataka. That would have better serve Karnataka, as illegalities breed corruption.

The orthodox medical business has been promising and announcing to the public countless new “breakthrough” cancer treatments over the last century. Almost none are worth anything. And you can readily recognize it by the fact that the “war on cancer” has been, by and large, a total failure ( read the afterword of this article on the war on cancer: do a search engine query for “A Mammogram Letter The British Medical Journal Censored” or go directly to http://www.supplements-and-health.com/mammogram.html ). “Promising” cancer therapies are always only coming from the highly lucrative business of orthodox medicine (like the one described in this article), ensuring their great profits and wealth, whereas relevant inexpensive alternative cancer therapies get suppressed and eradicated by this big business cartel. No wonder many highly credentialed people call the orthodox medicine a mafia…

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Saudi Arabia: Konkan Ghar Riyadh Celebrates Easter

Are “Konkan Qutam” and “Konkan Ghar” two separate entities in one city of Riyadh where there must be nothing more than 200 Konkhan stalwarts??? First of all you are celebrating the feast of Easter in a land where there is so much of close surveillance on all the religious activities, and now that you have one “Qutahm” and one “Ghar” which should all operate as discretely and as delicately as possible in order to maintain the privacy. Remember, I was in that great country for more than twenty years, and I have a great attachment to the people, the places as well as even the sand dunes and the pipelines. We want you all to work together and help one another, and most importantly understand each other by keeping the four walls of the “Ghar” and display the sign of unity by being one single “Qootaam”. “Dhev Bhoren Korun”.

  • From A. S. Mathew on New Delhi: 'Stop Exporting Beef, Then Killing of Cows will Stop' - SP Leader Azam Khan

India is the 2nd largest exporter of beef, about 20% of the beef export in the world, second to Brazil. What kind of a national hypocrisy is this? The protein rich beef is forbidden to the citizens of India, but only for export. The hypocrite cow loving politicians must keep an old cow inside their posh mansions provided by the tax-payers and they must take care of the cow like their own mother, feed and give a bath; also must take with them when they travel as if taking their own beloved mother. When the electorate of India will get some sense to understand this political trick of the politicians?

People have elected the globetrotter so that HE organises all the cleaning up. Isn’t that what Indian democracy all about? Cast the vote to the man with promises too good to be true. Now, unfortunately the globetrotter is too busy trotting the globe. He other half is busy changing the people at the top end, and perhaps handling the Press-Release-wallahs. The globetrotter had kindly asked Mr Siddaramaiah, (and not a BJP CM), to take charge of the rubbish removal. Mr Siddaramaiah, ever alert about the globetrotter’s many ploys, kindly refused. So let us see what magic wand the globetrotter will produce to do things that the previous Government could not. Until then, let us live in the mess of our own creation.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Mangaluru: Fulbright Specialist Dr Lorna Gonsalves from USA to Launch 'Reflection Park' at Roshini Nilaya

Establishing a “Reflection Park” at Roshni Nilaya under the expert Leadership of Dr. Lorna Gonsalves would be a marvelous idea indeed. The intellectual crop of Mangalore should be thrilled with this proposal and should therefore embrace this thought overwhelmingly with an all-out support. Interaction between faculty members of different Educational Groups in Mangalore does take time. Faculty members are little hesitant to come forward and express their views on so many issues that need be addressed spontaneously with an open heart because each Institution has their own internal policies and philosophies while sharing their ideas openly for public debates. Dr. Lorna Gonsalves however has selected the right Institution in Mangalore to expose the “Reflection Park”, and we are sure that both Dr. Jacinta D’Souza and Dr. Sophie will extend their best possible support. We were in Mangalore last year for the Annual Day of Roshni Nilaya where they brought a lady from the Mangalore University to be the key-note Speaker. The presentation that Dr. Sophie made thru an impressive power point presentation on the wide spectrum of Roshni Nilaya’s intellectual activities followed by the key note speech from Dr. Begum was highly admirable. Mangalore has the best substance to reciprocate all that Dr. Lorna Gonsalves has in store and you have our whole hearted support for this worthy cause towards Mangalore that will benefit from all around. God bless Mangalore, because thru the Educational foundation and support Mangalore will continue to flourish ‘ten-fold’.

Dear readers, By looking at the pictures it was systematically targeted at one community to make them economically viable. If the construction was illegal without any proper documentation, why the authorities not served a “Stay order”? How does gram panchayat not aware of the so called illegal construction which they waited once it is fully completed? It seems Israeli colonisation is evident in terms of India’s own version under BJP central rule is started specifically targeting minority dominated area. Another reality from the ‘Gujarat Model’; Ahmedabad : Why Muslim areas on the target in demolition drive? http://muslimmirror.com/eng/ahmedabad-why-muslim-areas-on-the-target-in-demolition-drive/ As an example for the racist approach Modi’s govt plan to build Israeli style Hindu township in Kashmir, decades after Godhra carnage the victims of riots are still living in the ghettos of camps. While he was to assure the world body on pluralism, Modi’s “hum paanch, hamare pachees” reference from a 2002 election speech is more defining of his attitude to Muslims than anything concrete he may have done from the community after his election. • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Mangaluru: To Lepers, with Love! St Joseph Leprosy Hospital at FMCI Completes 125 Yrs of Dedicated Service

Thank you, dear Alfie, for your informative article on the Leprosy Asylum of Fr. Muller’s Hospital which is an inspiring gift of charity from the Christians of Mangalore 125 years ago. The Jesuit priests, six in number, that came to Mangalore during the 19th century had a foresight on their charitable mission for the cause of needy in Mangalore. They also expanded their thoughts towards Education. Therefore they went to the Light House Hill for Education and they went to Kankanady for their Medication. Then they went to Jeppoo for their Religious movement. They bought some of the prime properties of Mangalore and make our town so rich in heritage added with discipline. Then came the Missionary nuns such as Sisters of Charity, Carmelites and A.C. order to help the Jesuits. All of these activities were carried out thru the blessings of the Bishop and the Diocese. Leprosy Asylum in Mangalore is a noteworthy Instittute. Dr. Lorsab and also Dr. Coelho have dedicated great deal of their time and effort for this noble cause. We have frequently visited the Leprosy Asylum many many times, including the Xmas midnight Mass. The Leprosy choir was the best in town then, and so also the nativity Crib that they displayed including the home made Chinese lanterns with candles. I met Blessed Mother Theresa for the first time at the Leprosy Asylum at Kankanady where Dr. Venkat Rao garlanded the saintly lady when we all knelt down and watched the glorious occasion. Our sister, Sr. Joan lived few yerds from the Leprosy Asylum from where she did her Graduate studies. Long live the name of Fr. Mullers who had a vision and also a love for Mangalore. Jesuits knew their way into the heart of Mangalore, and focus on Leprosy research and treatment was their specialty. The nuns from the Sisters of Charity were more than the “Gift of Angels” in our home town that made the place into a modern City of today

Great job, “Aangan Kutam” for a wonderful performance in commemoration of the feast of Easter. We have come a long way in Saudi Arabia in organizing such gatherings with religious festivities. Keep up the good work. Let the community enjoy all the benefits that your host government renders you under all the prevailing circumstances. Whatever you do, particularly in Saudi Arabia, do it in moderation. Maintain a low profile. You do not have to even mention “Pask Porob” as this can be construed in different ways by the authorities. “Moderation” is the key. The more low profile you display, the more successful you will be. Best of luck.

BUT MISTAKES BY EX-PRIME MINISTER MANMOHAN SINGH IS CORRUPTION!! THE DIFFERENCE IS EVIDENT. ANY MISTAKE, IF COMMITTED BY CONGRESS IS “CORRUPTION” AND ANY CORRUPTION AND SCAMS INDULGED IN BY BJP AND RSS IS “MISTAKE”. This is the difference between the Oxford Dictionary and the RSS dictionary! PEOPLE BELIEVED RSS AND ACCEPTED THEM. MANY TIMES PEOPLE END UP IN UNSURMOUNTABLE PROBLEMS BY MISPLACED LOYALTIES TO STRANGERS AND SUFFER UNBEARABLE REMORSE FOR PREJUDICED DECISIONS REGARDING KNOWN LESSER EVILS. AS PROPOUNDED BY POLITICAL SCIENCE, DEMOCRACY IS NOT THE BEST MODE OF GOVERNANCE, BUT IS THE LEAST HARMFUL. IT IS ACCEPTED NOT FOR EFFICIENCY, BUT FOR LESSER HARM AND EVIL. A BENEVOLENT DICTATOR COULD BE A BOON, BUT YOU CAN NOT REMOVE HIM IF HE IS A RUTHLESSLY WICKED RULER. UNFORTUNATELY, NOW WE HAVE PUT OUR LOT WITH THE FASCIST AND RELIGIOUS EXTREMIST RSS. THEY HAVE NO REMORSE FOR POST GODHRA CARNAGE AND POST AYODHYA DEMOLITION OF DISPUTED BUILDING, PENDING ADJUDICATION BEFORE THE COURT OF LAW. THEY HAVE LEAST RESPECT FOR JUDICIARY AND DEMOCRACY. THEY PRESS FOR PROHIBITION OF BEEF FOR HINDU VOTE BANK IN HINDU MAJORITY STATES AND ALLOW FREE PRODUCTION AND SALE OF BEEF IN PLACES LIKE GOA AND MEGHALAYA, WHERE THE MINORITY HAS THE DECISIVE VOTE BANK! Mr. B.N. Pai: Most of the politicians have a different psychology than the common people. The politicians will never forget their political enemies and driven by sleepless nights looking to get an appropriate time and opportunity to retaliate without any mercy. On the other hand, they are under a false notion and pretense that the hidden roles they have played to create death and bloodshed are bygone chapters and buried under the Pacific ocean. Two places you have mentioned will rise up again to question the hidden actors in due time; because history tells that open reality repeatedly. As you have clearly stated, the “beef” is now used as the best political weapon by the BJP and her sister parties, not for any solid religious principle, thus pushing thousands of people into unemployment, poverty and hunger.

  • From Mango Man on Easter – The Resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ

For the sake of interest when I checked Wikipedia – following information is how muslims believe about Jesus’s last days. “Just before Allah raised Jesus to the Heavens, Jesus went to his disciples, who were twelve inside the house. When he arrived, his hair was dripping with water (as if he had just had a bath) and he said, ‘There are those among you who will disbelieve in me twelve times after you had believed in me.’ He then asked, ‘Who among you will volunteer for his appearance to be transformed into mine, and be killed in my place. Whoever volunteers for that, he will be with me (in Paradise).’ One of the youngest ones among them volunteered, but Jesus asked him to sit down. Jesus asked again for a volunteer, and the same young man volunteered and Jesus asked him to sit down again. Then the young man volunteered a third time and Jesus said, ‘You will be that man,’ and the resemblance of Jesus was cast over that man while Jesus ascended to Heaven from a hole in the roof of the house. When the Jews came looking for Jesus, they found that young man and crucified him”

  • From Nelson Lewis on Kolkata: 'Those Blaming Anushka for World Cup Exit should be Ashamed' - Virat Kohli

The problem with Virat Kohli is that he is a hot headed fellow. Before India won the World Cup in July 1983, cricketers did not make money worth the name. However, today the scenario has completely chjanged. Today’s hectic cricket, money, fame, sponsorships, etc. have propelled the fortunes of cricketers many of whom, today, come from humble backgrounds and overnight they are millionaires and they totally lose their moorings with their countrymen and have exaggerated importance of themselves and consider that they are some special breeds. I am aware that Virat Kohli’s father was a criminal lawyer, but I wonder they had this much money that he is raking in today. With this money at their disposal, they behave as if they are some rich nationals from those countries that by virtue of being leading economies enjoy very high per capita incomes. The fact of the matter is that majority of Indians are poor and live in abject poverty and cricketers playing for India should thank their lot for the nation’s madness and rave for vrticket that has made them wealthy. In fact, besides playing cricket, they should do some charity work. However, irrespective of their origins and background, they have fascinations for fancy, top-of-the-range cars, motor-bikes, fire arms and all trappings of wealth. They want girl-friends who are film stars, models, fashion designers (and what not). They just do not understand that the more high profile, liberated and famous one’s girl friend is, then the chances of divorce after marrige are very high. I do not understand why should Virat Kohli make a fuss about the comments made by the media on his performace during the semi-final match against Australia and they blamed it due to the presence of his girl friend in Australia during the world cup? He had problems in Australia over an incidence there and now this. The media has learnt about his weakness and they will take full advantage of it and badger him on some pretext or the other all throughout his career. Moreover, as he is the captain of the test team, he should learn to be cool and level-headed like Mahendra Singh Dhobi, otherwise not only his captaincy will be taken away from him and he may not find a place in the team. Then, the only option for him would be a career in acting – should be get an opportunity.

Just wondering if the local authorities had given them the license to build the houses. If yes, then the AC should first target the authority who gave them the permit to build the houses. No matter which caste or religion the people are from. For a human owning a house is also a dream and its not easy to make this dream come true. One works hard all his life and by a small saving over the period he/she has done, they tend to move and build a house which they call “heaven”. Its a pity to see that houses are demolised and all the hardship of a human have gone down the drain. I can only pray in god to give strength to these people and get re-settled in their lives once again.

Thank you, Alfie, for your nice write up, as usual, on Fr. Muller’s Hospital named as St. Joseph Leprosy Hospital who is celebrating 125 years of their establishment. Leprosy Asylum and the dedication of the Jesuits in and around Mangalore from the 19th Century has been a landmark of history of Christian contribution towards Mangalore. Leprosy Asylum has always been the corner stone of Fr. Muller’s where they not only created a safe haven for the Lepers but also researched on the Leprosy disease and gave the patients a hope of cure and comfort. Dr. Lorsab and also Dr. Coelho have dedicated a great deal for the lepers. Leprosy Asylum also had a wonderful chapel for worship. Their liturgical services for Xmas midnight were excellently organized with the best choir in town. Their Xmas crib well decorated with the home made Chinese lanterns are still remembered. Every time I learn about Fr. Mullers and also the Leprosy Asylum there is a special kind of electrifying feeling within me because both the places have been always dear to our family. This is the place I met Blessed Mother Theresa for the first time where late Dr. Venkat Rao greeted with garlands and rituals while we all knelt and prayed for God’s mercy for our beloved home town. The best blessing of Fr. Mullers was the “Gift of Angels” that were bestowed upon us thru the presence of the nuns of Sisters of Charity who have perfected the place with lot of good charity and hospital efficiency. When I see Dr. Olinda Pereira in the picture it reminds me of my sister, Sr. Joan who lived only about fifty yards from the Leoprosy Asylum from where she carried out her Education. When I see Fr. Denzil itt reminds me where the Jesuits laid their foundation stone at the Light House Hill. When I see Fr. Santosh it reminds me how the Jesuits moved to Jeppoo and established the Seminary as well as the workshop. These are all the prime properties of Mangalore where the Jesuits came to our noble town in the 19th century and created a monumental success for the people of regardless of their faith or backgrounds. Fr. Mullers is an exemplary place where Fr. Mullers came up with the Homeopathic medicine where the entire complex has become an ideal place for medicine and treatment. Thank you, Fr. Mullers for all your dedication towards Mangalore.

  • From Jay on Mangaluru: Muslims themselves are Victims of Terrorism - Sufi M K Chishty

“1,400 years ago, Prophet Mohammed clearly spoke about Islam in Quran and Hadees but some pervert people corrupted Islam and misled, misread and misinterpreted” said Gujarat BJP Minority Morcha state president and head of Gujarat Haj committer M.K. Chishty. Let’s say we agree with you that Islam is a peaceful religion, but we have questions and I hope to have answers. 1. It appears you are referring to Muslims who are misunderstanding and misleading your religion. But how is that possible that apparently clear instructions from a divine source (which should have been flawless) is being misread, misinterpreted and worse a divine message gets corrupted by an ordinary man? The Holy book – The book says do good and they are doing bad? Let’s accept there is a misunderstanding among Muslims, could you kindly quote the chapters and verses which are good but are being misinterpreted. This is very, very important and we all need to know. 2. Again, let’s say people are misunderstanding, and these numbers are growing larger that every country with a sizeable Muslim presence has heavily armed Muslim Groups committing acts of terror. In this electronic age we also see and hear many Muslims making videos of their martyrdom operations and again quoting from the same ‘holy’ books and stating that this is how they understand they should be governing themselves? So, for 1400 years with so much of misinterpretation no one is being schooled into what is the “real” Islam? 3. Why don’t we see Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs, Hindus, Jews & Christians going on a rampage after they start reading and practising from their Holy books, quoting scripture as the reason for their actions? 4. We don`t see heads of Islamic Countries, The Grand Mufti’s of Al Azhar, The head of the Grand Mosques in Saudi, All 55 members of the OIC condemn these actions from the pulpits of mosques and challenge the actions of these misguided people and invite them to dialogue broadcast live publicly explaining to those misguided people that they are wrong, wrong, wrong. Instead of talking to local media M.K Chishty and his ilk should be jetting to Islamic strongholds around the world and having discussions with leaders from The Islamic State, Boko Haram, Hamas, Al Qayeda, The Houtheis, Hezboallah (The Party of Allah), Jaish-e-Mohammad, Hezb-o-Tahrir just to name a few of the several armed groups. Please don`t quote verses that have been abrogated as they DO NOT count, and If you are quoting chapter 5 verse 33, then quote the whole verse without leaving anything out any thing, and also quote verse 5:34. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck – THEN It IS A DUCK, DON’T HOODWINK ME INTO BELIEVING IT IS A HEN.

  • From drona on Easter – The Resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ

Jo jaa raha hai woh shareer hai is the famous dialogue from the movie Anand. Maut toh sirf shareer ko aati hai. Atama nahin marti. That’s what we believe in Hinduism. Material body is left by the atma after it gets old and sick or damaged beyond any repair. Christians believe in resurrection. Their faith and belief is so strong that they may at times go over board with their enthusiasm and end up criticizing other religions as Pagan. This leads to conflict invariably. Why do you think there is no peace in the world? Is it due to minority religions?

Dear Sharia Pandita, Your post makes no sense. Why are you bringing up Goa, BJP, RSS, Modi, Jains, aghori and every other thing into this discussion when my comments are purely on a dress code that hides your identity ? Remember – this dress code comes from those backward, tribal areas where men used this as a tool to hide the identity of their women. The ONLY purpose behind this dress was to hide identity of women from other ‘kaamanna’ tribal folks. LOL Answer the following questions: – Why are people from only one community caught in Mangaluru Vimaana Nildaana ? – How many more black flags have you added to your personal collection ? – Why is your tribal kingdom of Saudi Arabia acting very tough on Houthi rebels of Yemen while showing a very sympathetic stand on ISIS and other sunny terrorists ?

  • From A. S. Mathew on Easter – The Resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ

While Dr. Billy Graham was riding with his host the Catholic Bishop Vladimar in Russia, Dr. Graham asked him whether the focusing of the message should have any change. After a brief pause, the Bishop responded ” emphasis the resurrection of JESUS CHRIST. His virgin birth by the word itself a miracle and unique event never happened in history; but we see the next unique event, HE is risen from the grave, and HIS grave is empty. The sight of the empty grave has miracle working power. I didn’t know, how to define my brother in-law’s religion. His talk was totally focused on money; on the other hand, he won’t believe a thing without seeing and touching. Is it belief? Believing without seeing is belief and JESUS has categorized them as blessed. Talking about GOD or spiritual issues were too hard for me with my dear brother in-law. He went to Israel for a fun visit, visited the places JESUS walked, and finally visited the grave of JESUS. When I met him after the Holy Land visit, I didn’t ask him anything, indeed was apprehensive that he would contradict the things he has seen there as mere myth. But, to my surprise, the former tight lipped brother in-law began to deliver a long sermon of his visit; said he is a believer in JESUS CHRIST since visiting the Holy Land, especially the empty grave. THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD JESUS MAKES THE TOTAL DIFFERENCE.

Dear Fr. Richard. Wish you a happy and blessed Easter. First of all thank u for your compliments and encouragement. I could recall the great fruitful ministry you rendered in Udyavar Parish for 7 long years.Actually I like the word “Evengelisztion” . When Jesus appoints His disciples and priests for evengelizaion He also gives authority to every Christian for this great task. So we are grateful to God for this. This is my belief. So Every Christian has to understand this and live by life and deed. As we are humans difficult but of course Jesus knows the weekness and he will fill us in the Holy Spirit as the same in His life. So every Christian can avoid the sinful nature through the Holy Spirit. We thank God for giving us good priests. Actually I am not a big writer but I have that background inherited from my parents and forefathers and parish priests of course, and thank all of them for grooming the great faith on Christian belief. They are God fearing and devotional. So I just wanted to give the same message to todays youth so that they could build up their future life on this faith on a solid foundation which gives meaning to their life. Secondly Fr. Yes our family now shifted from Udyavara to Bajjodi by God’s grace. You are welcome at any time Fr. to our new residence over there. By God’s grace I am working at present in Doha Qatar moved from Dubai few years back. I feel this is the inspiration from God. Please pray for me. I do. Thank u once again.

    • From Nelson Lewis on Mangaluru: A 'Veiled' Attempt at Theft - Man Disguised as Woman Arrested at Ullal Darga

Regarding this incident of a man dressed in a traditional muslim lady’s attire, who was caught in the act of stealing and roughed up and handed over to the police, an incident came to my mind. Years ago, I was sorking in a construction company in Bahrain and one evening while quitting for the day (from our office compound, where we were located in a predominantly Shia area and, thertefore, quite restive in the 1990s), while we had gone out and reached the side lane to turn to the main road, we were surprised to see from our vehicle someone in a burqah and veil sitting on the ground by the kerbside. This was a very rare and unusual spectacle for us and one of us said, “Why is a lady sitting in burqah and veil on the footpath? She must be quite bold to sit in such a manner against the traditions of their community?” The next day we realised that this person was not a lady, but a man, who hurled a Molotov cocktail at our Administration Manager’s car, while he was retiring for the evening and driving out. Fortunately, he escaped and was safe and sound. In Bahrain, there are many Pakistanis who clamour to become Bahrainis, as they do not want to go and settle down in Pakistan, because that country is amongst the ten most lawless countries in the world and there is no guarantee of what will happen to anyone. Many such people are in the police or retired from the police (and have been staying in Bahrain with their families). One Pakistani young lady joined the company. My colleagues told me that she is coming to work in traditional attire and refuses to wear uniform. So, I asked my colleagues to call her so that I could talk to her and convince her to wear uniform. When she came and talked to me, she flatly refused to wear uniform and said that she will be wearing her traditional attire. I told her that if she is not willing to comply with the company’s policies and procedures and rules and regulations, then there is no way out. She said that in that case, she will quit working immediately. I said fine and she left. There were one are two interestong cases with doctors from a country in utter turmoil, but then let us leave it for some other day. Finally, what I wish to say is that however religious, convervative or traditional one is, that should be in the confines of one’s home and the place of worship. Outside, especially when it comes to one’s bread-and-butter, one should not put one’s blinkers on, be stubborn as a mule and shoot one’s foot. As simple as that.

Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time. Justice Jagannathanna lived a simple life after his retirement from the Supreme Court shying away from all the glamour that is normally associated with past retirees. I don’t think he was bestowed with the honor of “Prominent St. Aloysian” although he attended the college and distinguished himself as a student and rose to prominent position which only handful of Aloysians did. He was a epitome of honesty and integrity that is rarely seen nowadays. May his soul rest in peace and his family find solace cherishing beautiful memories of the past.

While the sentiment expressed by the author of this article is indeed valid, we also need to remember that each individual is also entitled to a window to look out of. Sadly the land in cities is limited and the fact that most peoples livelihood and access to civic services depends on their ability to reside in the proximity of a city makes such a situation impossible to avoid. So while we may lose our soothing views of the countryside, let us also understand that our loss is only as a result of someone being able to achieve their goal of owning their own window to look out of.

I wish places like Mangalore (which is culturally vibrant and mature) could designate open spaces – this will never happen. but, one can only hope. Coconut trees, coconut juice is part of our culture. In the olden days everybody owned houses and each house was surrounded by coconut trees. Most of the houses in the olden days and few even now seem like it is deep inside the woods surrounded by coconut trees. The problem is we humans are supposed to do something. If we sit idle we are considered lazy. Mostly we are judged by how much we earn no matter what and how. Since India’s population is expanding fast, for builders and others who want to make a quick buck ‘coconut trees’ looks like ‘Rupeeeeeessss’. Why not cut it down and convert into flats after all how much money a coconut tree can fetch by the number of coconuts it can produce compared to lakhs it can earn if the land is levelled. Somewhere I read that until we sell the last leaf remaining of the plant on the planet for money only after that we will realize the value of plants. Coconut trees is ingrained in our culture and only way we hope is the future generation will be more sensible to preserve it.

THEREFORE, THEY DO NOT DEMAND THAT THE BJP LEADER, MUKHTAR ABBAS NAQVI, AND HIS HINDU WIFE SEEMA – CONVERTED TO ISLAM AS A VICTIM OF LOVE JEHAD, SHOULD BECOME HINDUS TO PROVE THEIR LOVE TO BE TRUE. FOR THE VERY SAME REASON, THEY DO NOT DEMAND THAT THE BJP LEADER, SHAHNAWAZ AND HIS HINDU WIFE – CONVERTED TO ISLAM, RENU SHARMA, SHOULD BECOME HINDUS TO PROVE THEIR LOVE TO BE TRUE. THEY DO NOT ASK Suhasini Haidar, daughter of Subramanian Swamy TO BECOME HINDUS TO PROVE THEIR LOVE TO BE TRUE! The late BJP vice president and former governor of Kerala, Sikander Bakht, also had married a Hindu woman, Raj Sharma. IN SHORT, RSS AND BJP LEADERS CAN BE LOVE JIHADIS AND THEY ARE LICENSED TO CONVERT HINDUS TO ISLAM, AS THEY RSS IS AUTHORISED TO PERMIT LOVE JEHAD.

  • From Richard on Mangaluru: MLA J R Lobo Inaugurates 'Great Lions Reverse Show and Two Wheeler Slow Race'

IN DUBAI, PEOPLE STRICTLY FOLLOW THE RULES WHILE DRIVING, Confirms. Ln Manjunath Murthy. Yes, and this is a fact. BUT, most citizens and expats, if not all, do so , because laws and regulations in Dubai are strictly implemented and enforced, and fines and punishments are pretty high and harsh. Irresponsible drivers, Driving Under the Influence, etc., are found in all countries from Uganda to USA, but comparing Dubai’s laws and regulations to Indian laws and it’s strict implementation is truly absurd. One fine example to this argument is the classic case of Actor Salman Khan, who is charged with man slaughter, and even after 12 years, he simply states that he was not the guy driving!!! In Dubai too accidents do happen on a daily basis, and are fairly common as in any country- always due to human error or human arrogance – as most vehicles are in good technical condition, as they have to undergo stringent technical tests and passing every year by the authority, and must be technically fit to be on the road and Moreover, Dubai Govt. spends a lot of money in ensuring it stays a hyper city with good infrastructure such as the best roads in the world, traffic lights, flyovers, good respect for pedestrians with pavements, and walkovers, etc.. Sadly, India or Mangalore have not yet reached such high standards or norms in roads infrastructure or in implementing the civil and traffic laws laid down. The day the traffic cops put their foot down and there is no interference by any politician, etc., people in India too will automatically strictly obey the laws and regulations laid down. In Mangalore and Udupi – the Traffic Dept. must strictly act on: Driving on the wrong side, Not wearing headgear whilst driving a 2-wheeler, 3 people on a 2-wheeler, not observing speed limits, overloading of public buses run by private operators, provision of pedestrian crossings and pavements, and most of all making provisions for proper roads and road markings (like lanes, pedestrian crossings, marking speed breakers, etc., keeping an eye on bad and corrupt traffic cops, etc.

Forgotten Hero Bhagat Singh Remembered on Death anniversary. RSS and the Jana Sangh opposed, “tooth and nail”, the territorial exchange treaty by Nehru with West Pakistan in Panjab intended to get the territory of Hussainiwaal to India, where the Monument to Bhagath Singh, Raj Guru and Sukh Dev are there. They opposed the acquisition of martyr’s samadhi then, but visit it now! THE PRESENT YOUTH DO NOT KNOW THE FACTS AND HISTORY, AND THEY THINK THAT THEY KNOW EVERYTHING. THIS IS THE IRONY WITH WHICH INDIA SHOULD LIVE WITH! THOSE WHO DO NOT KNOW THE HISTORY DECIDE WHAT THE HISTORY WAS AND CELEBRATE!!!

  • From Richard on Udupi: Traffic Police Begin Drive to Crack Down on Loud Horns

I am glad to note that the Udupi Traffic Dept. is finally cracking down on the use of blaring horns and unnecessary honking, especially by those private buses – City and Service buses. These buses are fitted with air-horns with high decibels that are actually blown to glory by these drivers, especially in residential areas. I have personally brought up this topic and as well as the topic of seat belts, 3 people riding on a motorcycle, driving on the wrong side of the road, over-speeding over the years in Mangalorean.com in the hope that the Udupi Traffic Dept. will read, analyze, and implement some checking

  • From B. Dinesh on Udupi: Traffic Police Begin Drive to Crack Down on Loud Horns

It is hard to change the driving culture that has existed since independence. One solution may be to ban the production or import of horns exceeding certain decibels and at the same time forcing the removal of horns that exceed the specified decibels as and when vehicles are pulled over by the police. The police would need a device to measure the intensity of the horns.

Opposition should find Rahul, not flaws in BJP: Shah. Rahul Gandhi has informed the Speaker of the Lok Sabha that he would go on leave. Congress Vice President is not absconding as the mean people in the BJP would like to make him out look to be. Amit Shah and Modi must worry if their Vice President and “jailed for corruption” accused, Yeddyurappa is absconding. Even if Shobha Karandlaje of Cfee Estate infamy is missing, they must worry! Congress is not mean like the BJP to make jailed accused like Yeddi its Vice President. Congress is not mean like the BJP to make a “Love Jihadi” person and a convict like Union Minister of State for Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, a minister in Modi Cabinet. Meanness in politics is the prerogative of the BJP and the RSS and not of Congress!
