This is where the Qatar Government will hopefully step in and help the helpless individual and his family to take care of the medication towards an individual who has given his best to the Sheikhdom in whichever capacity he has been of service while in Qatar. This is how a richest country on earth can show to the world how we can recognize the humanitarian causes and give the very best to an individually who may or may not realize what the Qatari government has given back to life, but God will always remain merciful for a country that has been gifted the best of the best.

  • From Joe D'Souza on Police Commissioner Felicitates Traffic Wardens

Congratulations to Traffic Wardens and thanks to Your efforts in controlling Traffic on Lawless Mangalore Streets. You are putting Your life in danger along with Traffic Police while standing in between traffic jams. I made hand held “Stop” Signs to help the Traffic Police. But they did not show any interest in it. They still loved to show their hand to control Traffic in between the Large Vehicles.. Good Luck to them. I can understand the difficulty while watching these Traffic Police struggling to control unruly Rickshaw drivers and Bus drivers along with Bikers. Here the efforts of Traffic Jawans comes as helping hand. But how many drivers and People appreciate it,but argue with them. Since few years,I started doing my share of efforts to help Traffic Police. At the request of Traffic Police Inspectors,I started to install Traffic Signs, such as ” NO PARKING”,” BUS STOP””NO HORN”near Schools,Children Crossing sign, plus other Signs, at My Expenses. I am paying for Plastic Stickers,Welding Cost,Cement,Gravel,Sand and expensive Labor Cost to install the Signs. My only intention is to save a life of Child walking on the streets of Mangalore. But when I see, Well Educated Doctors,Lawyers, and Wealthy Educated People park their High End Cars right under “No Park” Sign,My heart breaks with a question to mind “Why am I doing this”. We call Mangalore as Educational Mecca and People coming out of this Mecca are ill behaved and unlawful and uneducated. I am sure these Poor Traffic Jawans including 94 years old Joe Gonsalves feel the same as I feel when Bus Drivers and Rickshaw Drivers do not co-operate with them during Traffic Jam. I also feel sad for College Students Sacrificing their Study Time to help Traffic Police as Jawans. Does anyone Appreciate their Efforts with kind Heart. Again I wanted to Thank every Traffic Jawan for their Kind Act.

A very touching story. Mr. Harsha acted well by stopping the car, running and picking up Mr. Prashant D’Costa, who had fallen in the slush by the kerb-side, admitting him into the hospital and staying with him for a considerable length of time, till Mr. D’Costa recovered, rather than chickening off by speeding away. It was also magnanimous of Mr. D’Costa to forgive Mr. Harsha. I hope this incident has blossomed a friendship in both these gentlemen.

  • From Girish on Lass needs help to start 'Fusion Kudla' Restaurant

The restaurant business is high risk and there expected high return. I think what you are looking for is venture capital funding. That is possible if there is a clear business plan to execute it with numbers to back up. The dream is important but should not expect the public to donate funding towards someone else’s dream. Rather put up a strong business case and then look for investor funding. Mangalorean people know their taste buds and are very picky on what they like to eat given that there is so much choice. Goodluck.

  • From ROSLIN BANGALORE on DySP Ganapathi had Beaten Catholics, Priests and Nuns

We all speak so much against Christian religion. Why are you now worried about it ? The following religion is one’s freedom of belief ? If one is happy about their accepting a particular religion, none has the right to opine against their belief. There are still a lot of hungry and underprivileged. Look after them, uplift them instead of engaging in hatred on humanity! Without hurting others, causing hatred to other religion. Practising any religion, need not be questioned. Why such huge hue & cry now after so many decades! It is our duty and right to respect our forefathers who have accepted a particular religion for some reason. Let us not slush mud on it ! There are so many. Uplift them. A lot of ugly practices have been eliminated by education. Do we wish to go back now to live how we were a century ago? Will anyone accept the old practices? If some are offended by all these modernisations, stop sending your children to learn English. Stop craving for jobs overseas! Instead of preaching others, start practising! Stop your children wearing modern dresses and then come out to teach others! Stop spreading hatred! The World is beautiful. Chant and walk – Live and let live happily ! Earth will be heaven!

Corruption and political goondagiri were always part of our system. I don’t want to put unfair blame on current karnataka govt as the previous govts weren’t any better. It makes me wonder why there are so many suicide attempts in our police dept these days. What has changed? Is it because they have more pressure these days? Or, are we recruiting people who are tough enough to handle some of these jobs? For example, take the case of a lady officer who tried to kill herself because her senior officer made some remarks. Don’t we expect some toughness and thick skin from our officers? Oh well…

While 38 deaths were reported in the “incidents”, as they are officially called, 903 people were reported to be injured. India witnessed 751 communal clashes in 2015, up from 644 in 2014, according to home ministry data. However, given that carcass collection was always something that the Dalits did manually, this stopgap measure is proving to be inadequate, especially in rural areas outside the district headquarters, with cow carcasses decaying at several places. At a cow shelter in the nearby block of Limbdi, around 20 cow carcasses rot with no Dalits to pick them up. “In the Ratanpur area of Surendranagar town, they kept on calling us to collect three dead cows but we never went,” said Hirabhai Chadwa. “Ultimately, stray dogs tore the carcass apart.” “This boycott is hurting us too but we need to put our foot down,” says Chawda. “Gau rakshaks harass us and even the police extorts bribes from us. Why? We are not stealing – this is our job.” Reality of ‘Gujarat Model’ ,otherwise mainstream paid news channel occupied ‘rath-ki-charcha’. Jai Hind

Truly unfortunate! Cows are a big menace to traffic, and the RTO is not doing anything about it. Cows are respected spiritually by the Hindus , but that does not give the owners of the cows the right to let them loose on the main roads. If they are stolen or knocked down by a vehicle – certain political goons come forth to make a big noise about a cow and it’s sacred values. Why don’t such political goons go around finding out whose cow or bulls are roaming around freely on the roads, and warn their owners. The RTO must take action of lifting all cows, private buses, lorries, etc. parked on highways and roads – as they cause hindrance to vehicles and pedestrians.

This should come from her extended family and friends. My Aunt lived in Mangalore for 85 years and she knew almost half of Mangalorean. When I was 12 years old I visited Mangalore for the first time. I got down from the bus at Kankanady and told the Jaktawala (Horse and cart rider) to take me to Lucy Bai’s house in Marnamikatta(also known as Vaag Lucy). He took me right in front of her house and she paid him only Rs.0.25. No bargain. It was in 1963. From my good old memories.

There is nothing hitech about sharing a mobile number to pimp girls. Prostitution is another area of confusion for many societies. What’s the big deal if two consulting adults decide to have sex in their privacy? As long as there is no threat, force or deception, there is nothing morally wrong about this. However, many societies have turned sex into a taboo and criminalized these natural acts.

Mr.Alfie and the mangalorean.com team , kindly visit Ms. Alice DSouza and see her condition and how she is doing. It’s not enogh only if you write what’s told to you to report. I guess you need to personally go and visit her and follow up whether Arun kumar is doing the needful and whether treatment is provided to her in a fair manner and if she is getting better or not. She needs a lot of prayers and emotional support rather than praises. Your reporting will be complete if you get the right facts. News reporting is good to highlight such cases but what makes it excellent is if it is followed up with emotional bonding. May be for your team it’s just another news but I guess there is something more than news which binds humans and that’s humanity which most of the people in and out of mangalore lack. So I kindly request you and your team to report her condition after visiting her. To all the readers and her relatives kindly keep her in your prayers and go and visit her.

  • From Richard Thomas on Precious lives could be saved if road users follow traffic rules - SP Annamalai

Dear SP Annamallai, Surely loss of precious life and property can be made minimal, if the authorities too understand the situation and act on it – instead of just giving big talks of conern in public. Accidents do happen even in the most developed countries with the most sophisticated and well built roads and signalling systems – USA, Dubai, Kuwait, Germany, to name a few. Accidents in Udupi and Mangalore can be minimized if a thorough study is undertaken by all the authorities empowered for the development of roads and signalling system. I have voiced many a times in Mangalorean.Com on this subject, and as a concerned citizen, I must reiterate once again, especially to SP Annamallai, who seems to be an honest and responsible person in authority: 1. Erect Traffic Lights on all major cross roads in Udupi starting from Manipal, Kalnsanka, City Bus Stand, Bannanje/DC Office, KSRTC Bus Stand, Udupi Head Post Office, Diana Circle, Big Bazaar/Ajjarkad junction, etc. At present there are none, and one or two that are there, are non-functional. Do not allow MESCOM to switch off road lights at night. 2. Mark main roads with lanes, Pedestrian crossings, Left Turn, Right Turn, etc. 3. Install LARGE BOLD Warning Signs, Traffic Signs, and Speed Limits. When one goes to the RTO, one is made to read and understand many traffic signs, that are non-existant on any road in Udupi! 4. Erect speed breakers, that truly stops a vehicle to break speed, and not those 2inch plastic speed breakers that are installed that everyone speeds over. 5. Put Traffic cops all over 24 hours – and do not allow them to stand in groups as you will witness at Kalsanka or the City bus stand – simply standing and talking instead of effectively manning the roads to ensure smooth flow of traffic. 6. Educate people, especially the locals, Not to drive on the wrong side of the roads, not to ride a bike or scooty with 3 & persons, not to park any where and everywhere, to get in the habit of using Turn Signals and slowing down much in advance in all cases. Educate private bus drivers on how to drive a bus with public inside – they are some of the most rash bus drivers on planet earth. 7. Constructs open grounds and/or Parking Buildings, so as to facilitate parking of vehicles – at present there are none – this is a need and not a luxury! I hope the above few inputs will be read and implemented by all the authorities, as in India, improvisation or carrying out something for the people involves a lot of people who never walk the roads, who always go around in police escorts with roads cleared, and who depend on the Central Govt. to approve, sanction, and release funds, and the CM and the MLA’s etc. to take credit, and the Contracts awarded to barbers and cobblers, who know nothing about construction, and ultimately, we get poorly constructed roads, shabbily constructed footpaths, and badly engineered drainage, that are never cleaned periodically. SP Annamallai cycles every day 20km as per his claim, surely he must have witnessed all the above in Udupi. The Mangalore part is fed in almost on a weekly basis by the reporters of Mangaloren.Com

This proves what I have been saying all along – Congress(I) is a modern day cult. Every political party seems to have its own share of corrupt and cronies. What makes Congress(I) different is it shameless dynasty politics, minority-worshiping and reckless ‘vote bank’ politics even if it means compromising on national security areas as we all saw in case of JNU incident or Kashmir valley protests. Remember, Prince Raul and congress cronies all over the place including this forum were supporting ‘paakistan zindaabad; crowd ?

Mr. Alfie, You and Me along with few NGO’s and Honest Citizens of Mangalore feel this Pain. So, We tell this matter to MCC Engineering Dept. and they are always busy in meetings or they are in Bangalore or Surathkal. Look at the problem of gutter on Mallikatta-Bunts Hostel Road and that shows the Corruption of area Corporator. Look at the danger near Arya Samaj road junction with the open gutter. I have spoken to Chief Executive Engineer and He sent Contractor Supervisor of Jugul Construction. Still, it is a life-threatening mess. Then look near Natural Ice Cream building where a Child can Fall after eating tasty Ice Cream. Look near Bharath Beedie-Kambla road junction. This is another famous Corrupt Ward of Mangalore. Look at the open dug up area near the entrance to Kambla Road. I hope local Corporators’ SUV should fall into it to give a clear message of ignorance. Crores are sanctioned for Rainy season repairs but if they use it, there is nothing left to…..! Now they have to find a dead Contractor or someone to make a Fake Bill of repairs and…………….. MCC is becoming Mangalore C……… Center.

  • From Sheikh on No Shorts-Minis? Local Temple Imposes 'Dress Code'

In a historically inaccurate statement which has come as a surprise for many, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that skirts have been a part of Indian culture. Addressing an event held to mark the return of Indian cultural property in Washington, he said that two thousand years ago, artists had made sculptures at the Konark Sun Temple resembling the modern fashionable girl who wears skirts and carries a purse. The prime minister believes that the 13-century Sun Temple shows ‘modern fashionable girl wear who wears skirts and carries purses’. His statement has been termed as factually incorrect because according to Archaeological Survey of India, the Sun Temple, famous for its erotic sculptures, was built in AD 1255 and not 2,000 years ago, reports Telegraph. CM Laxmikant Parsekar from BJP says you won’t find Goan girls in bikinis. No one knows his gone to beach for ‘Jal Vayu Vihar’ or bikini census. This statement came after state Public Works Department Minister and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa) legislator Sudin Dhavalikar make a statement “Young girls wearing short skirts in nightclubs are a threat to the Goan culture. This habit of young girls wearing short dresses everywhere does not fit the Goan culture. What will happen to it if this continues? We should not allow this. It should be stopped.” Modi’s team of Sadhvi’s & Swamis are against girls wearing jeans but Modi supports mini skirts, says our girls used to wear skirts 2000yrs back. In this new era of fashion design when RSS dropped shorts to adopt pants, future smart city like Mangalore is adjusting to the old civilization. While PM taking proud of skirts Mangalore want to impose strict dress code for women only devotes. When men visit temple in divine the focus should be on ‘Shradha’. Why blame women for dress code don’t ask men to lower their eyes? Incredible India.

Indeed a good move and this should be applied in every temple of Mlore city. Temples are places of worship and is not a place to show cast one’s dressing aspects. I myself have seen many women visiting the temple with indecent dress, which off course does not severe our purpose of temple visit and that disturbs our praying peace. We need to follow the regulations in temples like Horanadu and Kollur. Despite caste and religion, one has to follow strict dress code including the men, who have to remove their shirts, before entering the scared place to have the darshan of the lord. Great move by “women-only”group.

  • From Sheikh on DySP Ganapathi had Beaten Catholics, Priests and Nuns

There are debates on the innocence of the late DySP Ganapathy, thanks to his controversial career. Leaders like R Ashoka declared that the police officer had a clean career, but several departmental enquiries against him tell a different story. His 25-year career was marked not just by allegations of corruption, but also alleged inaction during the Mangalore church attacks of 2008. On September 14 of that year, the Adoration Monastery of the Sisters of St-Clare, near the Milagres Church in Hampankatta, was attacked by Bajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sene activists. Reportedly the attacks were carried out to intimidate Christians who loudly protested against attacks on nuns and religious heads in Odisha. In 2014, he had been suspended for not following Standard Operating Procedure, allegedly after he pocketed money recovered from a thief. A businessman named Rangaswamy had lodged a complaint with the Rajagopalnagar police station in October 2013, stating that Rs 1 crore had been stolen from his relative’s godown. But in the FIR, Ganapathy had written that only Rs 24,000 had been stolen. When the money was recovered from the businessman’s younger brother, Ganapathy allegedly returned only Rs 64 lakh. Ganapathy, then inspector of Yashwantpur police station, was part of the team headed by then Bengaluru Joint Commissioner (Crime) Alok Kumar that allegedly killed rowdy sheeter Pachi alias Prashanth in a fake encounter on September 25, 2010. The late officer suspended twice during BJP,now became hero of the party. God’s court has finally given verdict that he committed on duty. Now BJP Karnataka President B S Yeddyurappa raising voice against DYSP Ganpati suicide. Why is he called police official not to harass some Hindu youths in a murder case in Hassan district? Jai Hind

There are many muslims who disagree with Dr. Zakir Naik (and his disturbing sermons) and one of his sisters is not in favour of what he is doing and, over the years, she has had differences of opinion with him. Dr. Zakir Naik’s father was a psychiatrist and also had his clinic where, after completing his M.B.B.S. he was practising. He was very much influenced by a foreign Islamic preacher and did not take interest in his medical profession for which he had trained and became a preacher himself.

Mr. Mohammed Hanif, To you and to some other Muslims, Dr. Zakir Naik is a hero but, for me, he is a fraud and a scoundrel, who has become a multi-millionaire by preaching hate about other religions and superiority of Islam (as if Islam was one of the oldet religions which, in fact, is not). Dr. Naik has taken advantage of the semi-literates, who have no brains and reasoning power. Contrary to what you said, I counter you by saying that many mentions have been made of both Mother Mary in the Bible (New Testament). I cannot tell anything about the Torah because that holy book is written in Hebrew and I do not know that language. Further, it is a very ancient scripture. From what little I know about Prophet Mohammad (may peace be upon him), he was an illiterate person and, therefore, he did not write the Koran himself. Rather, it was dictated to somebody else, who wrote it for him. It is something like Adolph Hitler who, though not an illiterate, but was poor in in written German had dictated his thoughts to Rudolf Hess, who wrote it down for the future Fuhrer and later it was published as Mein Kampf.

  • From Jay on DMO to Protest Vilifying Campaign Against Dr Zakir Naik

Mohammed Hanif “I am not forcing u to accept my belief, IPhone says they are the best and Samsung says they are the best” – This is not the teachings of Islam, non Muslims are offered 3 choices and all through history people were forced to accept any one of the following. 1. Convert to Islam and pay 2.5% of their savings as Zakat. 2. Do not convert to Islam, and pay 50% of their income (not savings) as Jaziya. 3. Hence, if anyone does not want to convert to Islam and pay the Zakat, or remain a non Muslim and pay the Jaziya, then the order is to kill them? Why? Would it be acceptable to Muslims if Hindus, Christians & Jews were to use the same reasoning and logic extract money out of you? Zakir Naik is a Master of “Taqqiya” or Lying, and since you have watched his videos you may have also got well trained too. All Zakir does is to lie and lie, and makes it sound that his lies are the truth. If you think Zakir is telling the truth then go and also watch the youtube videos of David Wood, Sam Shamoun, Dr. Nabeel Qureshi and you will know how much he lies. He was supposed to return to India on July 11, 2016, where is he? I doubt he will come back. If he was clean and honest he will come back and face the allegations against him, and clarify with his copy of un-doctored videos. Wait and see he will settle in a Muslim country and join hands with other terrorists like Hafiz Saeed, etc and continue his terror acts against India and the Indian people and his well oiled Semi and illiterate audience will clap for Zakir.

  • From K S Bhat on MOF protests against false allegations on Dr Zakir Naik

A German’s view No need to be sorry for any attack by fanatics, please read this before its too late guys: wake up world and heads of state and countries before its very very late. A German’s View on Islam – worth reading because this is by far the best explanation of the Muslim terrorist situation I have ever read. His references to past history are accurate and clear. The author of this email is Dr. Emanuel Tanya, a well-known and well-respected psychiatrist–a man, whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II, and owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism. ‘Very few people were true Nazis,’ he said, ‘but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of our world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories.’ We are told again and again by ‘experts’ and ‘talking heads’ that Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam. The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor-kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers. The hard, quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the ‘silent majority,’ is cowed and extraneous. Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China’s huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people. The average Japanese individual, prior to World War II, was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians, most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet. And who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were ‘peace loving’? History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt. Yet for all our powers of reason, we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence. Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don’t speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun. Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late. Islamic prayers have now been introduced into Toronto and other public schools in Ontario, and, yes, in Ottawa too while the Lord’s Prayer was removed (due to being so offensive?! To whom? Not to the vast majority of Canadians!). The Islamic way is only peaceful until the fanatics move in. In Australia, and indeed in many countries around the world, many of the most commonly consumed food items have the halal emblem on them. Just look at the back of some of the most popular chocolate bars, and at other food products in your local supermarket. Foods on aircraft have the halal emblem, just to appease the privileged minority who are now rapidly expanding throughout the world. In the U.K, the Muslim communities refuse to integrate and there are now dozens of ?no-go? zones within major cities across the country that the police force dare not intrude upon. Sharia law prevails there, because the Muslim community in those areas refuses to acknowledge British law. As for we who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts — the fanatics who threaten our way of life. Anyone who doubts the seriousness of this issue and just deletes this email without sending it on, is contributing to the passiveness that allows the problems to expand. So, I beg you, extend yourself a bit and send this on and on and on in the hope that thousands, world-wide, read this, n about it, and send it on – before it’s too late . . .. because we remained silent.

Dear Brother Mohammed Haneef, You started off with humility and presented a very moderated view in your first post. But true colors came out in your response to Nelson’s post! Let me break it down for you. # Zakir Naik is clearly deceiving people when he says his video on Osama was doctored!! There are multiple videos on the same topic and they are all doctored? Why did he take this long to provide a clarification? In fact, yesterday, he posted a video on his official channel and reiterated the same thing!!!! Watch this video – Apparently, he still doesn’t know who Osama Bin Laden is!! Seriously???? Did he post a doctored video in his own channel?? LOL # You also say that your religion is supreme. Let me understand this – Does it mean that you don’t believe in India’ constitution? If there is a conflict between constitution and your religion, what do you follow? Do you also believe that non-muslims should be prevented from practicing their faith in muslim countries? As you know, muslims are free to preach and celebrate their faith in India. Do you support similar freedom to Hindus in Islamic countries? Let us know.

For any clear thinking person, it was very clear that all sides made mistakes during 2008 incident. Police responded only after a few trouble makers engaged in property damage and pelted stones injuring cops. Unfortunately, police responded with disproportionate force assaulting many innocents who were used as shield by the trouble makers. Quite honestly, re-opening this old incident to discredit a dead Police officer shows poor taste and bad judgement. This is no different from the case of an individual from Hindu community who disrespected Traci road accident victims on Facebook purely based on religious bias. Oh well…

This is a fit case for CBI Inquiry in order to deliver justice. CBI should have independent authority to probe any case in the nation without seeking permission from the State Govt. There should be checks and balances in the democracy and no one should cover up the culprits, no matter how powerful he/she is. Look at the FBI questioning their own former boss — Hillary Clinton about her e-mails, simply because she allegedly lied. Using toxic gas on innocents certainly requires a International level of inquiry as this gas may be as dangerous as chemical weapons.

These series of attacks could have been averted if the Catholic clergy had distanced themselves from the splinter groups like “New Life” who are worser than Zakir Naik at hurting the sentiments of others, including Catholics and Protestants. But alas, a Mangalorean lady politician had called up the Catholic Bishop a few weeks prior to the incident and ordered him to say that all Christians are united. This was an orchestrated attempt at dividing the populace. You cannot blame the police. They’re just the means for the ends of the politicians. If they don’t obey their orders, they’ll be posted in far off and naxal prone areas. Nobody would like to be away from their families. Mr Saldanha, whoever he is, and as we had seen always with this kind of people, has drawn out a extremely false, biased, coloured, communalised, one sided narrative on a unfortunate incident. No surprise because the very purpose was just that, to play his community as a victim of a ‘ hateful bull dozing community with all powers like a Minister, a SP and a bad Dy SP’. If you read it, you will feel that there was s Minister, a hate monger, who one day suddenly woke up and took his mobile and instructed his police personnel to enjoy beating up of priests, nuns and lots of Christians and they all just do so with pleasure. Laughable indeed. Mr Saldanha there could have been some thing, even if a very vague one, that put all these into motion, right? Why you deliberately missed all the details which would have turned around the whole story? Do we Need one Mr Saldanha to hide certain realities about what Christian Missioneriws do all over the world in converting unassuming poor members of other communities covertly? Is it a secret today that the gathering that Mt Saldanha describe as a very important and sacred ones are many times occasions of conversions of Hindu citizens exploiting their unfortunate state of atmosphere poverty, marginalisation etc by offering help and persuasions of all kinds? Is it not true that such activities have already produced a Converted Christian Community as one huge entity today placing them neither here or there? Is it not true that there is immense tension in the Society because of this one unethical mass program which agitate Hindu Community? If this one major unpleasant issue is stopped there is no other single issue between communities who love and respect each other and go about with their regular spiritual and material life as one prefer. Mr Saldanha is not and will never go and speak the real cause of such incidents as in Mangalore which in anyway, for any reason, should never happen at all. Because, for obvious reasons, it is not his intention. There is a huge propaganda machine not just in India but around the world aided and funded by western religious powers. BBC and all other entities are tools of their communication network.

If you mad at your spouse, do you kick the dog to take out your frustration? Why beat up Nuns and innocent elderly people for conversion by the Missionaries. There are Missionaries in other religions too. Hare Krishna Panth is one example. Why one has to change his/her religion if he/she is firm believer in one’s own religion. You should understand the Freedom of Religion little better.

Dear Nelson, Zakir naik has said that the video where he is seen talking about osama is doctered and it was a video of 1998. Zakir naik has the right to preach his religion. Not only him the 1.8 billion muslims feel that islam is supreme. Thats our belief. If the 2 billion christians believe that Christianity is supreme , i should respect it. Its your belief. I am not forcing u to accept my belief. For eg apple says iphone is the best, samsung says samsung is the best. Let the buyers decide which is the best. Like how you said your statmenet below tht quran was copeid from other scriptures, zakir naik has the right to say that original words of jesus(pbuh) has been tampered with by human beings. Btw in the bible or torah there is no chapters on jesus(pbuh) and mother mary. But quran had seperate chapetrs on them and praising both. Where was this copied from? And why praise them? But i still find some of ur arguments valid. As i said earlier, if someone takes objection to his religious preaching its still valid and had logic. But here the muslimd are stading behing dr zakir naik is bcos he has been branded as terrorist. This is untrue. He is hero to many.

There was no mention of the underlying causes of this attack. un-ethical and illegal proselytizing. Rampant encroachment into Hindu space and blatant plagiarism of Hindu symbols and practices. the most notable act is preying on young Hindu children. you present it as if you are embodiment of virtue. the pictures speak. burning logs and tyres? look at the body language of your people. Your tone was both accusatory and sounded like you were justifying the “death” of the DY sp. how about doing a similiar report on the circumstances of death? Mr. Hanif, Dr. Zakir Naik is a big fraud who has taken advantage of mostly Muslims from the lower economic strata and institutions by professing to them the superior of Islam over other religions and, in return, enriching himself to become a multi-millionaire., Why is he now afraid to come to India to answer the queries of various agencies, if he has nothing to hide? If you see his Youtubes, at least in one of them he has praised that international terrorist, Osama bin Laden, who spent the last five or fix years of his life in a large mansion in Abbotabad, Pakistan (a terrorist country, whose madrassas are production factories for terrorists), married to four wives and still his appetite for sex was insatiable and when he was killed, it came to light he used to watch pornographic stuff and cache of pornographic stuff was found. Though, I strongly believe in Almighty God, who has created all of us and I am a Roman Catholic, nevertheless I firmly believe that all religions – be it past or present – are manmade and Almighty God had no role in creation of any religion. The oldest religions are Hinduism, Judaism, Zorastrianism, Jainism and Buddhism. How can Dr. Zakir Naik can say that Islam is the superior religion, when it has copied things from the Torah and Bible and came into existence only in 632 A.D.?

Indebted to Justice Michael Saldanha for the initiative shown .Not sure but i think majority of christian leaders stood by the community . Lots of people suffered as expressed by the numbers shown by Justice . The issue hear is where does this cynicism come from ? Did the government endorse the same ? Was it a Hindutva agenda ? What is Hindutva ? what purpose does / did it serve The world is in turmoil with ISIS and Islamist fanaticism . The call of Allah before an attack on innocent lives makes one draw a link to Islam and i really don’t want to take that issue up here . If possible search for what i write in responses to Times articles . What is of importance is why this hatred ? Does one neutralize a threat by propping an unlikely adversary . These days the RSS and its affilates look at christanity through blue lenses due to ISIS being aggressive . Does that mean the initial doubt has gone or just pushed under the carpet ? or does it mean it can focus on only one threat and does not want to instigate the other communities too . is this all about politics and religious -sociological balance Lots of questions need answering ? Path Ahead : is view through the lens of humanity and let bygones be bygones . Once again Justice , hats of for taking the bull by its horns .

The Mangalorean Catholic institutions, leaders and associations have done nothing to prevent a repetition of the horrors of the 2008 Church attacks. There have been no efforts at police reforms to make the police accountable to the people they serve and supposedly protect. Mangalorean Caltholic institutions, leaders and associations are too preoccupied imitating Western fads to think seriously about dealing with the important challenges facing the community.

Dear Brother Mr. Pai, As a Muslim there are many views of Zakir Naik that i do not agree with. I think the days of blindly believing someone is past us. But to brand him as a terrorist and hate monger is utter non sense. I urge you to watch one full talk of Dr Zakir Naik on Youtube on any subject. Not a news clip of 2-3 mins shown on news channels. You can Judge Dr. Zakir Naik after you listen to his one full talk. The reason i am saying this is i have been listening to some of his videos since last 10 years. It had made be a very peacfull person. I started respecting other religions more after hearing Zakir Naik. I learnt lot of good things from him. Whatver i disagreed with him, i ignored it. He has 14 million followers of FB, 200 Million watch him on Tv daily , so to brand him as a hate monger is a serious crime. And that is why people are protesting. Nobody would have protested is the core contention of Zakir Naik haters was that they don’t like his views about other religions. That would have been a valid argument. But here the media trial on Dr Zakir Naik is disgusting to say the least. With all humility, I urge you to be more rational in your critisim of Dr Zakir naik and the protest that is held today.

Thank you very much, Mr. J.R. Lobo for being so thoughtful in promoting the idea of naming the Balmatta/Bendore Well Road in honor of late Mr. Blasius D’Souza. Having known the entire A. R. D’Souza family and their lifelong dedication towards the society in Mangalore, this is a most deserving gesture that you have made it into a reality. Providing the names of those most deserving individuals, particularly from our Christian community requires lot of courage and initiative on your part. Naming of the roads in honor of so many deserving dignitaries such as Blasius D’Souza will go down in history so that when our children as well as our grandchildren visit Mangalore they will be proud to feel and recollect the history of those distinguished individuals who have been one of the active pillars of our society that have made Mangalore as a dynamic city where we were born. Let the names of those deserving individuals shine and remain prominent in our minds so that our new generation will take pains to know the history of A. R. D’Souza and family who have given so much for our community amidst all the difficult life that prevailed in Mangalore. This is one way to encourage many more individuals of our community to give back much more to Mangalore so that their names also will be nominated in the future for any roads or lanes or streets where their names will make us feel proud that we knew them personally and were also acquainted with their esteemed families.

However, so long as you do not make an effort and become the District In-Charge of Mangalore, nothing will change. Constructing badly engineered roads, pavements and drainage in India is a big business – first to the Contractors and then to the Ministers who are in authority. It calls for Redoing what is already done – something like Research. In India, even for basic needs such as a garbage bin or a bus shelter, an MLA has to come forward to take credit. Where is the former MLC, Mr. Ivan D’souza – who is now appointed as THE WHIP for bad management – approach him and get things right so long as he is in the driver’s seat!

High expectations from adults also causes stress on these Angels without their fault. One side Parents and other side from school and comparison among Children, who is smarter and better. • From Max E Rasquinha on St Lawrence Shrine Attur all set to be 'Minor Basilica'

Identifying Basilicas and many other places that deserve Tourist attraction is very important in countries such as India. The history of Christianity in India is an admirable fact for many tourists to understand the journey of St. Thomas to India as an Ambassador of Jesus more than 2000 years ago and the dedication of St. Thomas in India who then paved way for St. Francis Xavier to appear after Vas co da Gama. Christianity in India may still be a negligible portion as compared to the vast population of Hindus and Moslems, yet the handful of Christians in India and their dedication of patriotism towards Education, Medication and many other social and economic contributions are worthy of being made aware so that existing and future generation may appreciate the secular values that prevail in democratic country such as India. Particularly the foreign tourists are ever increasing in India and therefore any focus rendered by the Government as well as the private sectors in expanding the exposure of Christian involvement in India will be of mutual benefit to all.

What is the use of the State’s Additional D.G.P. (C.I.D.) conducting an investigation in the death of the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Mangalore? Mr. Pratap Reddy has to dance to the tune of his political bosses and, in no way, can he afford to disenchant them. He has to see to his career and no one joins I.P.S. if he is straight-forward, honest and no nonsense man. Otherwise, they will wreck their careers. Many I.P.S. Officers who were truly honest have quit this highly corrupt system. Only a retired High Court Judge, who is fair and square and will not act as per the Chief Minister’s or Home Minister’s biddings, should have been assigned the investigation in this matter. The C.I.D. probe is just a wash up. Moreover, K.J. George, who is in the spotlight, will hush up the matter and light candles in the Church seeking Almighty’s forgiveness for his sins. I do not know if Syrian Christians undergo confessions. If that is the case, he may undergo confessions.

Mr. Nicholas, You may be right, as you are from that region and know things much better than me. I concede. However, in I.P.S. if you wish to become a Commissioner of Police of a large city or metropolis or D.G.P., you have to be a toadie and His Master’s Voice of the Chief Minister and Home Minister concerned. There are allegations that either one has to be that or pay hefty sums to get a plum posting. The same may be very much applicable to Superintendents of Police, etc. Many years ago, I came across an official in one of the top brass’ office and while departing I said, “Thank you very much for your help and by the way what is your good name?” I forget his first name, but his surname was that of a Maharashtrian Brahman and he said he was Sr. Superintendent of Police. I reckoned, he may have been in his late 50s and due for retirement. I felt, he may retire on the same rank. He may have been an upright officer and that is why he did not make much headway and working like a Head Clerk in one of the headquarters. In the first half of the first decade of the turn of this century, I was told that the Commissioner of Police of that time would touch the feets of his political masters, the moment he saw them.

Things appear to be very bad in Karnataka under the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, who is obsessed with VIP culture, has an inflated ego and feels he is a Tsar and acts like the way a feudal lord behaves with his tenants. Under his tenure, the police machinery is in a mess. Why cannot he get that Home Minister, K.J. George, sacked? A thorough investigation has to be done by C.B.I. and not the State C.I.D., who will carry out their political masters biddings and sweep everything under the rug. I have always maintained that government employment, including police, is not meant for honest people working as per their conscience and serving the people. The Government does not expect employees to serve the people, but serve their professional and political masters and help them to make money through dubious ways. So what, underlings can also make some money in the process? If bureaucrats and government employees, be it in Central or those of various State Governments, been transparent, honest and upright and been united and banded together to fight evil practices, the ministers and politicians would have been wary, worked hard with fright and one would not have heard of scandals, irregularities and corrupt practices. I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and near-and-dear ones of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, M.K. Ganapathi and may Almighty God, our Supreme Creator, please help and guide them in these difficult times. On the electronic media, I happened to listen to his interaction with the journalists and reporters and I got the impression that he lacked the arrogance, swagger and the rough veneer that most police officers display. I felt he was in a wrong profession and I can only utter the Urdu words, “Razia, goondon mey fas gayey.”

“It’s truly a miracle that sanathana dharma wasn’t wipe out – ORP There were quite a few reasons why Hindu Dharma was not wiped out. 1. In India when Moghul rule began in the very beginning there was zero tolerance towards people outside the people of the book – a term used primarily for Jews, Christians and Sabeans (a now defunct religious group in Arabia with monotheistic beliefs). The stark choice Hindus had was to covert or die. Later, when they saw the sheer multitudes of the millions they had to kill, Hindus were given the status of the people of the book, and Jiziya was collected from them too. All Indian history confirms that Hindus paid Jaziya. If a Hindu could not pay they took away their young children, the son`s were groomed for the army and girls went to their harems. Hence, the Moghul’s got ALL what they wanted, to rule, lots of money and lots of woman – sex slaves as we see in Iraq and Syria. This prompted “Sati” where Hindu noble woman chose to die, rather than become sex salves. 2. Hindu Kings and rulers like Mahrana Pratap, Shivaji, Guru Gobind Singh (and the Sikhs in particular) just to name a few checked their advances. 3.Getting in from the North of India to the South India the terrain was very difficult and inhospitable. Hence, by and large the south of India though did have pockets and short time frames of Muslim rule, but by and large it was not as bad as it was in the North. 4. The British in India, I am not a great fan of the British, but they too played a great role in over throwing Muslim rule and taking the reins of power from them. The invasions over a 1000 years have left a great toll. Bill Durants book `The take over of India“ says it is the single largest genocide in the history of the world – 80 million dead and counting. The break of India, and the ongoing tensions with nuclear armed rivals gives a scary picture should war break out.

May Almighty Allah give sabr to his family. I have been seeing this kind of reckless bus drivers from so many years but nor department or RTO has taken any initiative to stop it till today. Everybody should talk to DC and RTO any ask them to implement new law for bus drivers. If the service bus stand shifts to pumpwell I think city will be a little safe to walk around. I say City bus nor service bus should not ply in city roads. Only mini city bus should enter city

All others including sanaathana dharma followers will have to either convert or die. It’s truly a miracle that sanaathana dharma wasn’t wiped out of Bharatha even after 1000-year-long attack from foreigners.

As expected, joker pinto has provided the same old links to show how ‘poor’ USA is!! While it is true that there are poor people in this country, the scale of poverty is very different. Most of the homeless people have either mental issues or serious drug addiction problem. Overwhelming majority of poor people here have a standard of life that can only be matched by upper middle class/rich in India. How many poor people in India have air conditions, refrigerators, microwaves, cars, laptops, Wifi, smart phones and a decent apartment? Then again, how do I explain these things to a person who has never seen a developed country ??? Joker Pinto is a joker for a reason!! LOL

Is he getting nervous because his own peaceful friends are voicing their opposition to these terrorists? Why does Joker Praveena Pinto try to change every topic into another anti-sanaathana or anti-US speech? Is it all because of ‘hotte uri’ that goes all the way back to his rejected visa?

Nationalise the city buses and mofussil routes as well. Put that driver behind bars. There is no value for life in Mangalore. So sad.

I would have been pleased to see the senior Muslim leaders in Saudi, Egypt hold those banners from the pulpit of mosques. A child and some children carry banner the size of an A4 or larger will not make much difference to the world’s 1.2 billion Muslims. However, if Muslim masses are serious they should totally first renounce Jihad, and all forms of violence, even at home. Give woman, minorities and the different sects of Islam equal rights, in particular those living in Muslim dominated lands. Jaziya a penalty paid by non Muslims and to forced to live in subjugation as second class citizens with little or no rights should be over and done with, never to return. Sharia (Islamic Law) is another bone of contention, that discriminates against non Muslims and even Muslims of some sects are persecuted in their countries. Long story short democracy and freedom for ALL and we will all live happily ever after.

Very sad and unfortunate for the family to lose a young man from the family. This bus even today being a holiday and less traffic with no much of traffic, no road blocks should not be plying on this road. This bus had to go State Bank via Jyothi. The traffic police should be stringent and should not allow any bus plying via Joythi to State Bank to ply via Falnir since the drivers are reckless and always rash and the Mother Teresa road is quite narrow for unwanted traffic. Abolish the private bus mafia and then see the difference.

  • From Robert Pais on 34-year-old Sarfraz from Goa Killed in Road Mishap in City

Nothing is going to happen- unless we see a general trend to follow traffic rules. driving within speed limits is not something that is only in the books but needs to be enforced. How to enforce it but to collect heavy fines on a daily basis. Employing a full time police squad in arterial roads – with speed detection and documenting with video – should incur a first time fine. If there is repeat against the Driving licence then automatic court hearing should be the case. Lack enforcement on a regular and sustained manner is not happening. This therefore reflects the deficiency on the part of the police in Mangalore City. THIS late of response to even an accident ( delay) is a clear evidence for absence of traffic enforcement squad on patrol. Traffic police salaries within the cities should come from the MCC and therefore tax from the residents of Mangalore- Just see that effect of that within a year – smart move to smart city? Accountability of every one ( Police, MCC, residents) will cure these chronic issues facing Mangaloreans. Presently there is a total lack of accountability.

This is a step in the right direction. This is not enough. This community must renounce doctrine of armed jihad. They need to emphasize less on religion and more on modernity, science, education and human progress. The dogmatic infallibility and the false sense of superiority are not unique to this group. Every religion seems to have made the same mistake to varying degrees. However, this group seems to be the last one to still believe in it. It’s time to stop and realize the full human potential.

As per his logic, police in US are MORE dangerous than terrorists!!” – RampaNNA’s lame-duck ‘laajick’. Rampa… those are stats from YOUR own adopted country – a LAND of Freedom. The LAND of the FREE….. where, an American is 8 times MORE likely to be MURDERED by YOUR the Police than Wahabbi radicalists. Why do you react in such knee-jerk fashion?

  • From Original R.Pai on Young Woman Creates Ruckus and Commotion at Kuttar

She could be suffering from bipolar depression. People don’t act irrationally and put themselves through embarrassing situations in public unless they have certain mental issue. I’m glad that police and public handled the situation very well. I wish her all the best.

  • From Vinayak on Sea erosion continues, road washed away in Malpe

Interlock is not the solution for such errosion. One has to mount up boalders to avoid loosing of mud and then stag it with small boalders in a mess kind box. This would be the only solution for few yrs.
