Busses plying from State bank frighten and they cover entire stretch without allowing other vehicles to move. In the urgency of picking passengers bus move haphazard way creating nuisance to others. Police never control them. Authorities need to look into it.

All whale and dolphin species are strictly protected under EU law and international trade in whale products is banned. However, ambergris is treated differently, since CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) regards the substance as an excretion, like urine or faeces, and therefore, as a benign byproduct and hence not requiring to be covered under the Convention. The EU is currently happy to support this definition. Having said that, why one gets arrested for whale vomit or excretion is beyond me. One cannot kill a Sperm whale to extract this. Therefore, it is funny how someone’s good fortune can be snatched away unless one has to kill to retrieve such. And what exactly does the government do with it? Sell it for a fortune?

Oh, it is heart-wrenching! Why can’t we retain the old glorious times as it is? For us, Jyothi was our dear Bhamauty taking us children to children’s movies and other must-see movies, during our childhood days and then to Rayan’s at ಹಂಪನಕಟ್ಟೆ for the delicious Almond Ice cream! At the Glenview Nursing Home, a building apart, lying on my bed after delivery, I would listen to the Kannada songs and music coming from the Theatre. Glen View, such a homely Nursing Home also disappeared years ago and the ground remains vacant even now, besides Dr Saldanha’s unoccupied home. Ramesh Anna was always there to let us in, at the gate of the Theatre. Yes, hope the name Jyothi will atleast remain, whatever building comes up there.

Very true narration of our College days Alfie Looks like you have taken a leaf out of our lives and projected it Lively I’m from Fisheries college Mangalore at one end on the West Coast Highway and Jyothi talkies iin mid town which we used to frequent. I think we spent more times watching Hollywood movies in Newchitra than in Jyothi talkies. It’s with heavy heart came to know through your article about the demolition of New chitra and Jyothi. I wish to share some nice memories about Jyothi talkies As hostelers, food served in the hostel was atrocious and in order to improve the food served a Best Menu competition was organised for hostellers and the winners were given first class tickets to watch “Sholay” at Jyothi talkies. It worked such was the craze we got the best Menu award and watched Sholay Unfortunately we weren’t lucky, we weren’t bold to approach or have GF’s from St. Agnes or from Roshni nilaya. We remained Jaleel ‘s of Nagarahaavu kannada movie. These disappointments would adequately be quenched in the dim lit Hollywood bar (Kankanadi) with chilled beer and walking all the way back to hostel singing aloud “Ye Dosti hum nahi Chodengey” Miss you Mangalore Adieu Jyothi talkies

Under KRIDC you have concrete gutter and road work between Melangadi and Millat Nagar. In the process, the contractor has unscientifically laid the gutter very near our temple compound wall causing it to collapse for over 500 mts. The contractor along with the local counsellor promised to restore it one year ago. When I approached you, you promised me to rectify the same. when I contacted Syed Madini President Sri Rashid, He promised me to rectify the same. But to date, no action has been taken.

Chottebhai, you’re just chottee Fool to have been misguided by the dramatics of that immoral Lady : I’ve not yet met the Bishop so far. I too was carried away by the hype created by the immoral and corrupt Indian media who want only sensationalism to survive. But then I contacted one of our colleagues who had worked in Jalandhar previously. His reply was more than enough to correct my erroneous feelings. He told me, he knew the Bishop who was working with enthusiasm among the poor and had a very clean image when he was young. He got promoted as Auxiliary Bishop and posted to the Archdiocese of Delhi where he didn’t have any relatives as he had hailed from a Syro-Malabar family in the Arch Diocese of Thrissur. And he was promoted and posted as Bishop of Jalandhar. So much so about the Bishop. And what about that lady who had hurled such a serious charge about the Bishop? These points would suffice to prove that her accusation was a Himalayan lie : 1) Her own first cousin giving a complaint in writing that the said lady used to come to her home when she had gone to her office which was at a very distance from the convent only to seduce her ****and into an immoral …….ship, in support of which she had referred to 23 SMS messages sent from the convent during odd hours – 2 am and 3 am. 2) That she had siphoned off funds to the tune of ….ions from her Congregation of which she was Mother General for two terms of 3 years each. 3)And the proceeds of those …… money were utilized by her brother who has no means- a ….da! -to construct a multi-storied commercial complex. 4) That she had asked the Mother General in writing for permission to leave the Congregation, but had cancelled her decision and came back after asking for permission, as her ….da brother compelled her to do so – he wanted to enjoy all the …. on his own! 5) The accusation of having been raped 13 times during a period of 15 months is actually making a mockery of the intelligence of an average Indian! During this period she is happily participating in umpteen functions at the family of the Bishop like the funeral of his mother and other functions! False Sexual Harassment complaint by an ….ral woman 😭

The writer has argued the case very professionally, taking Into consideration all factors. Very pertinent points that need to be seriously considered by the Pope and other top spiritual leaders of the RC church are “Chastity” & “Poverty” – has the Bishop used church funds to fight the case against the helpless nun .. ?? On grounds of “Chastity” he should be defrocked immediately as he has set a wrong example to the rest of us devout (let’s say brought up with strong moral values) Christians. The Judge has compromised his principles just as much as the Bishop was caught in a compromising position. That said, the victim too isn’t as innocent as portrayed, she should have opened up and bravely taken the Bishop to the cops, unless there was some pecuniary benefit and mutual gratification involved.

For decades, when minority run institutions imposed strict dress rules on majority faith students, nobody made a big deal. For example, take an Institution from Mangalore run by minority faith. Does it allow hindu students to come to school with kunkuma, bangles, saree, dhoti and other hindu traditional attire? People respected and followed the rules. But one particular community always demands more and more rights all over the world. But they never acknowledge the rights of minorities once they become majority. As France did in recent years, the true secular societies need to stand up to this group and push back. The media and journalists also need to show some courage when it comes to secular values.

Reducing servicing hours — in any manner – will increase congestion on other days as per queing theory. It is common sense, especially when applied for essential goods. Night Curfew may not increase the congestion for shopping to a significant during the day time, but many transportation and shelving activities that happen during the night help the transactions during the day time plus the authorities have to unnecessarily increase the deployment of police during the night which increases their burden and decreases the efficiency. The solution is to keep all activities as in regular times but enforce strictest physical distancing especially in ques outside shops and more importantly in the market. Announce this in advance so people minimize the trips to the shops or market. The public should cooperate with the authorities by buying more and storing to the extent possible (not too much) and make a list of items to buy and buy in one trip rather than multiple trips to the shops. A lot of people think the immunity increases if they go out frequently. This is a big myth as per my understanding.

This is an interesting topic. In principle, I’m opposed to any anti-conversion law as it infringes individual freedom. People should be able to convert if they want. However, I’m opposed to selective application of any laws. For centuries, Hindu society has been very open and accommodating Abrahamic religions including Jews. However, the same thing can’t be said about ‘peaceful’ religion. I’m curious to know if Christian missionaries actively preach and convert muslims or not. Asking this question because this is where the crux of matter lies. An average Hindu feels like he/she has been taken for a ride for too long. Hindu has to be patient, open minded and accommodating while the same standards are not applied to another vocal community who engage in violence in slightest reference to their religion. When the double standards stop, we will return to a more balanced, just society.

If Mangalore and surrounding areas has to regain the lost glory and again be the front runner two things need to be eliminated, Politicians should first stop fueling communal passions which of late have resulted in top companies / industries / IT etc deciding not to invest or set up base in Mangalore, even the once booming medical tourism is slowly dying. Secondly corruption at every level needs to stop.

Waste of time and money, in Mangalore / SK the daily lease of buses works in a complex manner. Further most of these gizmos stop working with the inherent glitches or due to lack of enthusiasm from bus owners, crew and the people. Other than the KSRTC buses very few private operators use the mandatory ticket issuing machines. Cash is King in this part of India. Further majority of the bus passengers aren’t tech savvy, so this initiative is a failure. On another note these private bus operators need to train the drivers and conductors on proper behaviour with passengers and other road users, driving is not about using abusive language or speeding and scaring other road users / passengers with their shrill horns. Conductors need a crash course on being polite .
