“the accused came forward and shouted that since he (Mathew) is an Indian, he cannot conduct the mass” – Report As per reports, he told priest that he must be Hindu or Muslim before stabbing him. This should be a good eye opener to those minorities who copy European masters while ignoring/mocking their own sanathana heritage! Remember that you will be always an outsider in the eyes of white masters. For every idiot who tried to stab, there are tens of thousands who share the same biased attitude but decide not to show in public. By the way, any comments from Fr. Cdr Prakash who ridicules RSS/VHP/BJP for their association with sanathana heritage?

  • From Nitin Pinto on Experts Stress Importance of Premarital Screening to Prevent Medical, Psychological Marital Problems

Probably this is not the right place to say what I wanted to say, but nevertheless let me see if I can get it out of my system: The most important pre-marital screening test that needs to be carried out in our society is to identify the real intent behind the marriage (everything else is secondary). When you marry someone you have to establish whether the person you are marrying really wants to get married or is it because she is getting old and can no longer rely on her parents as they are also getting old. Most men miss out on this crucial point and as a consequence suffer miserably. When it comes to marriages (especially the Catholic marriages) the Indian society currently is in a state of dangerous flux where the old orthodox traditions combined with the modern western view of materialism has created a dangerous mix of Molotov cocktail which innocuously disguises itself through the initial days of the marriage but then suddenly explodes. The fundamental reason behind this is due to the various people involved in this circus(called marriage) who hope for totally unrealistic expectations out of the union. Being the Indian society for what it is, there are people ranging from the bride and groom themselves all the way to the extended family members from both sides. For the girl’s side it’s more about the pomposity and lavishness of the wedding itself as opposed to focussing on what lies beyond it. They somehow assume that is man’s headache to worry about those things after the wedding. It may have been true 50 years ago but not anymore. Get this fact inside your skull at the earliest. There is more to life than 3-tier wedding cake, corsage, boutonniere, page boy, flower girls, and cocktail parties. If you want to have a content married life then utmost attention should be paid to these disguised expectations which people have on their minds even before the whole wedding-spectacle begins. Marriage is not a Disney land fairy tale, with ivory castles and flying ponies. Increasingly our society is aping the western materialistic way of thinking. The West has heavily influenced them to develop a sense of entitlement within them to think that others (especially their husbands) owe them a living while they themselves take no responsibility for their actions or failures or unpreparedness. The fault squarely lies with the parents. These self-righteous and clueless parents, without giving it a second thought, bring up their children in such an irresponsible manner that the child does not really know what the practical life means. Their children are least prepared for a life on their own. But the parents think they deserve an award from the society thinking that since they have provided everything their children have asked for, they are the best parents in the world. Nothing could be further from the truth. When these children eventually grow up, the parents think they have done their duty (in reality they have only ruined them by not preparing them for the real world) and then start their venture to find a scapegoat to tie to their daughter’s neck. That child (now grown up – but only in flesh) once getting married, expects similar ivory tower treatment from their spouse. She thinks that is what she deserves and it’s their husband’s job to provide it. If he tries to bring them into line (by talking common sense), then with the help of their ‘liberal’ relatives and friends begin to evaluate their ‘options’ (read weapons). In India the laws are so biased towards women that even a mere allegation of torture is enough to get the husband arrested without bail. Even if there was no substance to the case it takes years to clear one’s name. But by the end of it when the entire case has been quashed, there is no provision under the law to hold the accuser to account for abusing the system. All these things amount to increasing number of broken marriages in our society. In the Western society, both man and woman are equal when it comes to the law, so there is no room for such exploitation. If people don’t get along then (most of the times) they just go through the quick legal process and go separate ways. But Indian society is a special basket case. The girls who have been brought up in the most feckless manner try to get the best of both worlds -on one hand they want the freedom and choice that comes readily available in the Western society but at the same time, when things don’t go as per their expectation in marriage, they take resort in the broken legal system in India to abuse it to no end. They pay no special attention towards their career before marriage, instead enjoy all their time and money on enjoyment – shopping malls, Bollywood, holidays and what not. But then when the same comforts get hard to come by after the marriage, their husband suddenly becomes the punching bag. He turns into everyone’s enemy. He becomes the root cause of their unhappiness. The fundamental problem here (i.e. in Indian society) is that most parents bring up their daughters with the mindset that it is husband’s job to provide everything after the marriage. That’s where the conflicts arise. As a consequence those wives don’t want to take responsibilities to their own failures and weaknesses. This is the reason marriages (especially in big cities) are breaking down. There is another real reason why this happens time and again in our society. It’s because of the way the marriages happen. I must agree the things are improving now (albeit slowly) but most of the times alliances happen in the least conducive way possible. There is no practical way you can fully understand the person you are marrying. To begin with, the boy is settled in a distant place due to his job and hardly finds enough time to dedicate into finding the right partner. Due to your culture (and religion) you are consciously/subconsciously are somehow forced to find a life partner from your own community. So you strive hard to find someone, who more often than not happens to live in a distant place, perhaps another country. You hardly get any time and opportunity between your job to dedicate towards this. You come across someone who you think could be a potential candidate. And this is where the problem begins. You meet them once and for some reason you are not so sure about it in the first meeting. You have doubts inside your head that you want to clarify before you go to the next level. There are some obvious good things that you have found in that person but you are concerned about what’s not so visible. Indian society still follows orthodoxy when it comes to alliances therefore the second time you try to meet that same person to find out more, they assume you have already liked the person. If you meet for the second time and then don’t follow it through, then you will be condemned as a deserter. Secondly, even if you go ahead with the proposal, there is hardly anything that really comes to the surface (i.e. flaws) because if you ask any involved questions (to clarify your doubts) then you are looked at as being someone uncouth and arrogant. There is no practical way in our society to fully understand the person. The funny thing is you only get one chance to go through all this and you have to get it right and hope your stars assure you that elusive happiness. If this venture fails then the same society looks at you as a failure. All said and done, there are a few things you can watch out for before you enter into this phase of life called getting marriage. You should know how to separate the wheat from the chaff. It can be a difficult thing to do but sooner you do it, less worries for you later. The things to watch out for are: 1. Look at the parents. Their outward look, talk, experiences etc. tells you what you need to know, especially how they brought up their children etc. Pay attention to how much they dedicated resources and commitment towards their children’s upbringing/education. Once you analyse these things you will get a picture. 2. Women fight hard these days for equal rights, so you have to make sure that they also understand that the responsibility towards your eventual family also is equal between partners, it is just not husband’s alone. This wily thinking of resorting to old patriarchal Indian system when it comes to responsibility while taking shelter under the modern Western philosophy of equality when it comes to personal rights (equality) is a real trap for Indian men. Pay special attention here. 3. Watch out for those types whole life revolves around watching Bollywood, soap operas, over obsession with social media, compulsive mall shopping, and frequent holidays. These are the same people who would have attended the college for ‘fun’, not to become something in life. Stay clear of those. 4. Do not fall for the looks. If beauty is what you are after, go on a Europe trip and visit the brothels. They are quite hygienic, I am reliably told. Beauty lasts only for a couple of weeks after the wedding. After that it’s totally inconsequential to your marriage. In fact it becomes a burden on you. Watch out for this!!!!! 5. If your fiancée is far too much obsessed with the ‘big day’, be very careful. Danger lies ahead. You are better off dumping her even if causes a short term turmoil in your family. 6. Pay special attention to whether the person you are intending to marry (and her family) have thirst for knowledge, intellectual curiosity and concerns about worldly matters. The woman you marry may have body of a 25 year old but if she has a mind of a 12 year old then you might as well get a pet. 7. Always try to find out if your fiancée really wants to marry you, or is she doing it because she couldn’t find a better one. Is she marrying you because of you or because of your money or status? Most of the marriages take place out of desperation. Don’t fall into that trap. There is nothing big to lose in waiting for a few more years to get married. If the person you married did not really like you (to begin with) then that marriage is doomed to fail. 8. Men should always remember, when you decide to get married (in India), as far as the laws are concerned, the odds are against you. If your marriage works out as planned consider yourself lucky. But if it fails, then the woman has all the legal advantage no matter how right or wrong she is. Pay special attention to this aspect. Even if there is not a single evidence of wrongdoing against you, you can still end up destitute and penniless. Play your cards wisely. Increasing number of women in India have started using this legal weapon to get what they want. You have nothing in your favour. 9. Lastly, there is no compulsion that you should get married. If you don’t want to die alone, then marriage is not the only option. Think of the alternatives. Until then enjoy your life while doing good to others. By the way I am not painting a broad brush here to point finger at every woman in India but increasing number of women in India (especially those from the affluent background, brought up in the cities, who go pubbing and clubbing every weekend) have learnt the tricks of the trade called marriage. Pay special attention.

Though this scheme is copy of ‘Amma canteen’ of Tamil Nadu, I will welcome the decision of feeding the poor society with reachable amount. Unlike BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh Malnourishment in NAMO Govt: 64 Children died every day in 2016 the efforts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka government is appreciable. http://www.outlookindia.com/website/story/at-least-64-children-died-every-day-in-madhya-pradesh-in-2016/298210 Food interference is not new to the current government. The beef ban in Maharashtra and now the removal of eggs from the midday meal scheme in MP. Why is the government killing the poor man’s protein? We have 2.3 crore malnourished children in India. Our malnutrition statistics are worse than that of sub-sahara Africa, Afghanistan and even Pakistan. In such a scenario, can our Ministers afford to be so ridiculous? Is NAMO Raj will be able to serve the hungry people of its state or will be eating only ‘mann ki baat’? Jai Hind

There is no amount of magic that can cure the poison of anti-hindu hatred and arrogance coming from certain quarters of our society. As I have been pointing out week after week, it’s unfortunate to see how minority communities have decided not to participate in this campaign purely based on religious reasons. This is exactly why we need to completely get rid of unholy alliance between communal ‘vote banks’ and pseudo-secular groups. As and when the minority vote banks become irrelevant, the attitude will also change in a positive direction.

Isn’t this NRI Forum a private business started by a politician called Ganesh Karnik with his Kannadiga friends? Why would any non-resident Karnataka associations go under the “umbrella” of a private company? I understand that they are promoting it well. But any money collected might end up in private hands with no benefit to the members. I don’t think I will be a member, unless there is a guarantee offered by the Government of Karnataka.

None of these self-righteous people said a word against the attack. When it happens to them, they are all mad and outraged!! How sad and pathetic!! Just a handful of RTO policemen manning cross road junctions when they can catch people riding triple on motorcycles, riding in no entry, over-speeding buses, open half lorries ferrying workers like sardines, private minis – not painted yellow and without school boards or signs ferrying school children, and so many other road instances that can get a good income to the RTO – IF ONLY THEY CAN INSTALL TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND SPEED BREAKERS EVERY WHERE!

As the BJP romps home with more than 300 seats in a 403-member UP assembly after two decades, the crux of the UP election is that Modi’s opponents could not match him in weaving a broader political narrative around development. While Modi communalised his development narrative, there was no secular alternative. The SP, Congress and BSP displayed a conspicuous lack of imagination and creativity in challenging Modi’s message and this finally led to their downfall. In this context, the BJP was seen by a major section of the state’s Hindu voters as the only viable option. For all its talk about developmental politics and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “sabka saath sabka vikas”, it seems that the BJP is not averse to lean on the tried and tested, but regressive and divisive, path of communal polarisation. This is unfortunate and unacceptable. It is unfortunate because the BJP, which runs the government at the Centre, has an advantage to set the discourse, and it is unacceptable because elections in the most populous state in India should be held without the spectre of communalisation. The BJP, as is expected of other parties, should set an example by shunning disruptive politics. There are many reasons why BJP has swept Uttar Pradesh. There is the popularity of prime minister Narendra Modi, the management of president Amit Shah, the anti-incumbency against the Samajwadi Party, there is Hindutva and the division of Muslim votes, there’s the positive ratings for demonetisation. But the most important reason why the BJP has won UP is caste. Yes there is Hindutva, but the BJP has benefited less from polarisation and more from the split of Muslim votes. The Congress alliance gave the impression that SP-Congress would get a bulk of Yadav and Muslim votes, further alienating any non-Yadav OBCs or upper castes who were thinking of voting SP for the sake of Akhilesh Yadav. None of this is to take away from Modi’s popularity or Amit Shah’s strategies. It’s not one or the other, it’s a combination of factors. The most important of these was caste. Man who showed ‘EVM loopholes’ held http://www.veoh.com/watch/v505707dgewqMsB Lucknow encounter that ended Wednesday morning, and has described it as a tactic by the central government to polarize the last phase of election in UP in the BJP’s favor. A similar attempt was made in Sambhal in the first phase of election but the Jat voters punctured the plan, said Yadav. “Such a questionable action on eve of election shows the desperation on part of the Modi government,” he said. A Blast Here, a Temple Visit There: Elections and the Making of a Media Stunt https://thewire.in/115601/a-blast-temple-visit-up-elections-the-making-of-a-media-stunt/ Last phase of 2017 election is somewhat similar to ‘Godhra’ and encounters which led to 2012 riots and subsequent massive win to BJP.Vote percentage of opposition parties and BJP vote share is the testimony that EVM’s are fraud which BJP top leadership once cast doubts. Well said – things don’t change because constructing poor and bad roads is a guarantee for continuous business for those corrupt contractors and PWD and Municipal people in authority, and as well for the Minister In-charge for the Development of Mangalore. Same state – road to Udupi Railway Station – full of pot holes and no one to care about although our Minster and In-charge of everything, Mr.Pramod Madhwaraj only talks and hardly ever walks to check the roads in and around Udupi. No use complaining or even supporting the politicians or the government – they are all the same – just collect taxes for paying fat salaries to admin staff in all offices of Municipality and PWD, who in turn do nothing substantial.

Although there are paid toilets at the Service Bus Stand, shopkeepers and passerbys openly urinate on the wall. Ts here is a large PLASTIC FREE ZONE sign installed at this place – which must be changed to A WARNING ON URINATING both in Kannada and English to the general public. The so-called ‘Mangalore Muslims’ group on facebook should be aware that we are living in India, not in any Mid-East Countries. Why crucify her for just singing a devotional song? She took part in a competition and be proud of her for such a wonderful performance. Why these “custodians” of Islam think that she showed her beauty to men and sang in front of them? It’s a singing competition and the judges and audience are comprised of men and women. If they think that her parents will go to hell just for allowing her to sing, can they tell us who is going to heaven in their opinion? I wonder if the guys who troll this gifted girl have the guts to troll the terrorists. She is not the first Muslim to sing devotional songs. Do they know how many songs the great Mohd. • From Richard Dsouza on Belapu man Dies as Mahindra Pick-up Crashes into parked Truck in Chennai

Trucks parked on daily basis and as well overnight on our badly lit or dark highways are cause for many accidents and deaths. The RTO must organize a HIGHWAY PATROL, whereby it will not allow any truck to be parked on the side on the Highway and Service Roads on all days. Special well-lit areas, preferably beside Petrol Stations must be facilitated for parking of long-haul trucks overnight or on a daily basis for a fee. The parking of local trucks, half-lorries, tempos, taxis, etc. on the Service Roads and Highways must be banned completely. The owners should park near their homes – but definitely not on public roads. Especially those HP and BP tankers and trucks that are seen parked everywhere and anywhere. I hope the government will take appropriate action. The government should be pro-active in all public matters – they are one of the reasons for such road accidents.

It’s a typical case of a Barber given the job of a Cobbler! All the Minister’s in India are given Portfolio’s without any specific education or working experience in that field. It’s so funny to read – Health Minister is given Railway Portfolio, etc. PM decides to demonitize superceeding the FM and the RBI. These are the ridiculous things that happen in India. • From Richard Dsouza on Digging Never Stops in Mangaluru! Now It's MESCOM's Turn

Complaints! Complaints! Complaints! In India, one should look at everything like a horse – just straight ahead! You nor God above can change anything in India as it is one huge unplanned country. Mangalore too is just that. India is chaotic and messed up in all aspects from planning to politics! In countries abroad – an entire State/County is charted out and worked upon for future infrastructure, amenities, etc. by Town Planning Committee decades in advance. So as to give an aesthetic look to a State, town, and a country. Thereafter, the roads, the bi-lanes, the drainage, the sewerage, the water pipes, the electricity, the traffic lights, the pedestrian crossings, the playgrounds, the gardens, the supermarket areas, the prayer areas, the school areas, and everything in-between are charted out on drawings, worked on actual future population v/s area, and then all the above jobs are executed, much before even one single housing or commercial unit is given permission to build The USA, Kuwait, and the entire Gulf are some of such countries. In India it is just the opposite – first, come the hutments, then the hawkers, then shanty villages, then shanty towns, then comes the Municipality, and then everybody is on the TAKE, then come the Complaints. Town Planners are not in the picture at all. Development in India means concrete jungles that fetch free and huge revenue to the government from builders. There’s not even a pedestrian crossing for ordinary citizens leave alone a public bench or a park!

  • From Sheikh on HJV activists Gherao Padubidri Police Station

In the past devotion to lord is connected through ‘bhajans’, ‘kirtans’ and ‘havana’. Now RSS sister organisation HJV is taken the devotion through extreme by sieging police stations. Everyone knows about the 2001 Parliament attack, where nine Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed militants stormed New Delhi’s British-built Sansad Bhawan only to be challenged and killed by the Delhi Police as well as Parliament Security Services personnel. What is less known is that this was actually the second attempted attack on the Indian Parliament. In 1966, while Indira Gandhi was Prime Minister, a mob – led by a troupe of naked Naga sadhus – attempted to storm Sansad Bhawan, demanding that the Union government impose a national ban on cow slaughter. Now history is repeated by RSS again by gherao police stations. Jai Hind

Dear Fr.Cedric Praksah, We miss your poetry skills since ‘Black Frieday’ published right on the day Shree Modiji won historic elections. I would like to share a few facts that you seem to have missed out. I understand how Teesta Setvald and Raana Ayyub’s twitter feeds can keep you shielded from certain truths!! smiles… 1. You wrote that Gurmehar Kaur’s father was killed in Kargil war. This is not true. He was killed on August 6, 1999 trying to defend his camp from Kashmir militants. Kargil war officially came to an end on July 26th, 1999. (By the way, I fully support her right to express her opinion even though I feel she is grossly misinformed and wrong) 2. You referred to ‘women’s march’. Do you know anything about Linda sarsour, one of the organizers of this march? Also, do you know about Rasmea Yousef Odeh, another person behind organizing this march? Well, please google these names and learn some harsh truths about these individuals who are pretending to be champions of human rights. 3. Since you are such a champion of women’s right, I was surprised to see no mention of triple talaaq or discussions around Uniform Civil code in India. Why did you skip these topics? Is it because there wasn’t enough space on internet? smiles…I am sure you support UCC and banning of triple talaaq, right? (wink, wink) Finally, here is the true example of woman power. Suhana Saiyed is a proud kannadiga muslim woman from Sagara (shivamogga) who sang a song on Lord Srinivaasa on Zee news kannada channel. This is the true face of secular India. Hope you support her.

By the way, where are the MLAs and MLC who happen to be from minority communities? Never seen them showing any interest in this campaign. Same way, the organization and institutions run by minorities have shown zero interest. Talk about intolerance!! They were all falling over themselves when it came to 2000 koti rupaayees granted under ‘smart city’ scheme. My request to media is to be more assertive and call out these questionable individuals. Majority Indians are getting tired of these games and intolerance by certain communities.

Every time You call an Official to take the complaint, He or She will tell you that they are in a meeting. My question to Local People is why you don’t take down the Licence Plate number of the vehicle that is used for drivers training or take a photo of that vehicle and hand it over to Kavoor Police or DCP Mr Sanjeev Patil and request them to take action. He will take action, because He has done that at my request few times. Also, take down the number of the Tipper that dumps building material and hand it over to Deputy Commissioner.

  • From John Crasta on Women wearing jeans, T-shirt arouse men, wants them drowned in the sea - Kerala Priest

It is not good for a priest to judge and condemn anybody( Luke 6:37 ,Jn 20:23 ). Priest should try to explain the bible and lead congregation into prayers to seek graces. It is important to realize that, a) Every human being , high or low needs graces from God b) It is important to ask for graces as we have been given the right to make our own choices( Deut 11:26-28 ). We are incapable of sustaining against Satan on our own. c) Mere lectures do not change people. We can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. It has become vital to pray for graces as many catholic families do not find time to say family prayers I humbly urge the church to say prayer of graces before or during the Mass. This will make Mass more lively and meaningful. I give here below my favourite prayer for graces which is as follows, Jesus gives us true contrition for our sins, grace to forgive , grace to pray for our enemies and leadership Grant us the grace to obey all the commandments, save us from all occasions of sin, temptations, snares of the evil one, wicked people and creatures, wrong behaviour and shame. Jesus give us grace to come to you when we are weary and tired, surrender all our worries to you and grant us hope, patience and peace Lord fill us with your Holy Spirit and grant us gifts of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, discernment, faith, prayer, hope , love ,peace , joy, gentleness, self control, patience, MODESTY, CHASTITY AND FAITHFULNESS Jesus give us the grace to understand, interpret bible properly and save us from blasphemy, false prophesy and self glorification. Lord say a word and our souls shall be healed and we shall receive perpetual health of body, mind, good health and a holy death. Lord send forth The Holy Spirit that he will teach us all things and remind us of all that you Have said to us., Lord say a word and our minds shall be governed by the Holy Spirit.(Romans 8:6) Regards

The missing money is public money and it should be properly investigated and accounted for. Mangalore Diocese is a very rich Diocese and most of the faithfuls do not know how much assets the Diocese owns. The religious institutions, though they are tax exempt entities, should be required to file a tax returns with Income Tax authorities disclosing the annual income and expenditure in the public interest. There should be an accountability, transparency, checks & balances. It is needed in a democratic country. We are required to contribute 1/10th of our earnings to God. At the same time we deserve to know what happens to the money we have donated to “GOD” It is a simple logic of accountability. What I hear that some of the institutions are in guise of non-profit make hefty profits by way of capitation fee, hall rentals, running businesses and making other investments. Non-profit entities should be barred from investing in stock market and high risk investments.

If there is theft please file a police complaint. Religion is a tool to control unruly mob. Religious people believe only they can do good things and all others are kuffars. Hypocrites. Until the day I see the grand mufti goes on shabari mala, the Pope sits and eats next to shivalli brahmanas at Krishna Mataa, and a swamiji goes on haj I will never buy into this nonsense called religion. • From Sheikh on Union Govt should amend the Constitution to Protect Cows: Pejawar Swamiji

India is home to 300 million cattle and is the world’s largest exporter of beef — it exported $4.8 billion worth of beef only last year — and its fifth-biggest consumer. Not only is the beef industry big in India, so far we have also been able to exercise individual freedom to eat or not eat beef ever since Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in 2014. The earliest Vedas do not prohibit the slaughter of cattle. In fact, they ordain it as a part of sacrificial rites. Cattle were not only the major sacrificial victims in the Vedic times, but cow milk products like ghee were also regularly used for ablation a practice that continues to this day. Moreover, the Brahmans that performed the cow sacrifices also readily ate the consecrated beef. It is true that the Rigveda (1500-1200 BCE) alludes to the mystical relationship between the cow and the universe, while the Atharvaveda (1200-1000 BCE) calls the cow the “all producing and all containing universe” but they are silent concerning matters of cow slaughter. “The Brhadaranyaka Upanishad (700 BCE) advocates that parents should eat rice cooked with beef or veal if they want a learned son who is a knower of the Vedas. In the Dharmaśāstra, Vasistha states that a host may offer hospitality to a Brahman priest by cooking a full-grown ox, while Gautama notes that if an ascetic invited to eat at a sacrifice rejects meat then he shall go to hell for as many years as the slaughtered beast has hairs. It is not until the very end of the Vedic period that we find even the slightest allusions to cow slaughter. Therefore, it is safe to assume that at the close of the Vedic period, the cow was still being slaughtered and eaten by Hindus, even though it served as a powerful symbol. The text that perhaps distances itself farthest from the sacrificial cult is the Bhagavata Purana (400-1000 CE), where refraining from harming all living beings in thought, word, or deed is promoted as the highest Dharma. However, even the Bhagavata Purana acknowledges that for special rites a king may kill the required number of animals, and that one with a penchant for meat may eat the remnants of the sacrificed animals. The Bhagavata Purana also allows the consumption of meat in emergency situations like famines. In fact, it prohibits alcohol more than it does meat. Bummer! Cow worship is a relatively recent development in India. Some scholars believe that it was with the advent of Buddhism and Jainism at the beginning of the fifth century BCE that the notion of ahimsa or nonviolence slowly rose in prominence within Brahmanical circles (Basham 1959, 48-54). The sacred texts and law books from this period make ample references to it. The Bhagavad Gita (500-400 BCE), for example, “mentions the term four times (10.5, 13.7, 16.2, 17.4), but it is not used in a doctrinal sense” (Frank J Korom 2000, 188). Manusmrti (200 BCE-300 CE) explicitly prohibits eating meat for Brahmans, but does not prohibit its consumption by other castes (Frank J. Korom 2000, 188), and obviously other religions. Swamiji we want your indefinite fast against the cow slaughters by beef exporters which took the ‘pink revolution’ to become #No.1 under PM Modi’s regime undermining the values of Hindu feelings. Human sacrifice for the sanctity of cow should also be equally condemned. An enthusiast from the Society of Cow Protection once came for an interview with Swami Vivekananda and asked for his contribution. On learning that the society had a considerable amount of funds, Swamiji said to the preacher, “A terrible famine has broken out in central India. Nine lakh people, your own brothers and sisters, have fallen into the jaws of death, yet you have not thought it your duty, even though you have the means, to help them in that terrible calamity with food”? The preacher replied, “No, we protect the mother-cows of our country from the hands of the butchers, because the Shâstras say that the cow is our mother.” Swamiji smilingly replied, “Yes, the cow is indeed your mother. Who else could give birth to such accomplished children?” “A Rat is Lord Ganesha’s ride.. everyone kills rats by poisoning them, or they are killed/used in lab testing.. no one blinks an eye-lid.. Monkeys are a roop of Hanuman.. they are mistreated in circuses and are killed in lab testing.. no one bothers..,.ban on killing of snake, fish, pigs, buffalo, owl, crow and frog, citing these animals’ relevance in Hindu religion. “The snake is revered too as it is around Shiva’s neck and also there is a festival called ‘Nag Panchmi’.. but snakes are killed the moment people spot them.. Pigs are killed for ham and bacon, but Varaha devta is worshipped by Hindus. Fish ( matsya ) is the first avatar of Lord Vishnu,” he wrote. “Buffalo is the sawari of Lord Yamaraj. Owl is the sawari of Lakshmi. Crow is the sawari of Shani (Saturn ), one of the navgrahs or 9 planets. Frog ( manduk ) is the name of one of our Puranas,””ban these too”? “The Bhagavata Purana prohibits alcohol more than it does meat”. Alcohol does more damage to the society than beef eating. Why ‘somapan’ is revered and not banned? This political motivated agitation should be stopped and truth should be open to the worshipper. Jai Hind Jai Hind

Given the Congress as a main political party is on its deathbed, the BJP are (or at least were) in a good position to come to power in the state next year but the stupidities from the saffron groups such as these won’t go unnoticed by the electorate. Don’t be surprised if people (i.e. majority Hindus) don’t vote of BJP candidates the next time because more of these silly bundhs that cause pain to the people in their daily lives, more deeply that pain gets ingrained in their memory to not vote for right wing candidates in the future because subconsciously they will know that party does not truly represent them. This religion, mandir and all that non-sense is no longer relevant. It only worked in the 90s. The people have moved on since. Bundh is a failed left wing tool which the right wing is foolishly trying to employ to their own peril. There is absolute lack of common sense among the top leaders in the right-wing in our coastal region. For that matter, no matter how corrupt they are, the congress leaders are much more smarter in terms of remaining popular.

I would rather choose to live under BJP rule than these lazy parasitic lefties running the country but was there any need for today’s strike? If these apes really had a point to prove then why not go to this Kerala CM’s city and strike? What exactly has this strike proved other than causing inconvenience to thousands of people and crores of losses to businesses? At the end of the day the Kerala CM did not suffer instead we shot ourselves in the foot. He is the CM of an Indian state so he has the backing of the constitutionally guaranteed state machinery for his protection just like what a Karnataka CM would deserve should he choose to visit the state of Kerala. Have these people calling for bundh lost their mind? And look at the damage these people have caused. The tax payer is expected to foot the bill and ironically the very tax payer is not allowed to go about his business.

Now the PM Modi’s full majority government is in power any one who speaks about government is tagged as ‘anti-national’. The mass media which reports it becomes ‘pesstitute’. Dear Mr. Pramod, Yes, it is easy to make a Statement: Very important to eat fish, but do you know the price of fish that is caught and supplied in plenty in Malpe? Unfortunately, the cost of fish in Malpe and Udupi is more costly than Mutton! Imagine a Rs.500.- a Kilo for Seer Fish (King Fish or Angel as the locals call it), Rs.600.- a Kilo for Black Pompfret, and Rs.1000.- for a Kilo of Milk Fish or Kane and Rs.100.- for 5 Mackeral Fish or Bangde. These exaggerated prices are due to lack of check on prices and the on the export of good quality and big size fish to Goa, Kerala, Bangalore, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. Hundreds of Trucks packed with boxes of fresh fish leave Malpe Fishing Harbour every morning and evening. Even the local hoteliers sell a single piece of Seer Fish (Angel) and a single Milk Fish (Kane) for Rs.200.- in a Restaurant. Why can’t you ban or limit the senseless export of our local Fish to neighbouring States and to the Gulf, as they too have a Sea and plenty of Fish, so that the local people of South Karnataka, and the people of North Karnataka can easily afford and eat Fish, which is the staple food in Karnataka.

I am also very proud of our ‘brave’ media and political leaders who hide under desk and apologize to vote banks on regular basis. Great!!

LOL LOL LOL This is great. The vote bank politics has come full circle!! This incident shows how congress leaders will never dare to speak truth. If they ever dare to quote some historical facts or figures, they would be forced to apologize as we witnessed in this case!! How sad!! This is exactly what one ‘mathew’ tried to explain using ‘biriyaani’ example prior to 2014 elections. Many including joker failed to understand his point due to ignorance and generations of hatred towards Hindus. No wonder why these congress characters never dare to comment on pak based terrorism or ISIS.

Kerala Chief Minister from ‘Somalia’ as described by PM Modi into smart city is not allowed. Whomsoever preach the hate is welcome with garland ‘like athithi devo bhava’. These fanatics don’t know how to utter single Shloka and mantra wearing Saffron shawl and thread wanted to impose restriction to movement of elected people’s representative. These people should know not allowing Kerala Chief Minister to participate in the programme is a blatant violation of the decorum of the federal system. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was unable to attend an event in Bhopal following protests by right-wing activists. http://www.thenewsminute.com/article/sangh-protest-prevents-kerala-cm-attending-event-bhopal-mp-govt-apologizes-54143 Pinarayi Vijayan, who was in Bhopal on his maiden visit, was to attend an event organized by Malayali Association in Bhopal at 5.30 pm. However, minutes before the event was to begin, several activists from Bajrang Dal and other right-wing organizations protested against the increasing number of attacks on BJP/RSS workers in Kerala. “Generally when a Chief Minister visits another state, there are protocols. But since the RSS was behind the protests, the police remained silent. It reflects the culture of RSS,”. Jai Hind

The Ideal ice cream product packaging/branding needs a little bit of an overhaul, expensive endeavour but justified nonetheless. The current pastel colour/type facing combination does not do justice to the quality of their product.

  • From Narasimha Pai on Marathon Runners make a Mess- Ramakrishna Math Volunteers Clean It?

Sunday morning I was coming out of Taj Mahal restaurant near Kodialbail, and I was so disappointed to see young runners discarding waste on the street-Is this what they learned in their school/college. It was so foolish of Ocean Pearl hotel to distribute orange slices, when they knew that the runners will mess the area- the hotel staff should have cleaned all the mess, and not the Ramakrishna Mutt volunteers. What a society are we living in- when are these children learning good habits? If the organizers can’t handle in preventing garbage menace, don’t hold a marathon?

Marathons, processions and large rallies on the busy roads of mangaluru should be banned- they not only create a lot of mess but cause inconvenience to general hard working citizens. What are the accomplishments by organizing marathons- does its serve any purposes? Just a show and publicity stunt for the organizing institution or association. Nice report by D’souza- thanks a million Mangalorean by highlighting this “messy” situation.

Why the Nitte Education Trust allowed to go scot free? Why did they not take any responsibility to ensure that the venues used for the event were left neat and tidy? Next time, they should install CCTV along the route of the run and name and shame the people who threw garbage on road by publishing their photo on district newspaper. If children are involved, then their dress displaying the school emblem should be photographed and published without showing faces. This is a real shame. We all talk and no show. Last year, I went for London marathon. People literally take their waste with them to their house and dispose it. They are so conscious about their behaviour and attitude towards cleanliness. We still have a long way to go. Modi cant do everything unless the common man does something.

The absence of Congress and its ‘vote banks’ is very disappointing. If they don’t want to join hands with these volunteers, they can do something on their own. The organizers should be ashamed of this mess. I don’t think it’s fair to blame the youngsters who participated in marathon – there should have been a cleaning crew deployed by organizers. To be fair, this is not limited to this marathon event. Almost all event organizers take public space for granted. All the promotional posters, loud music, traffic jam, processions and littering should be banned or strictly regulated.

If these organizers want to have a marathon they should do it very systematically and in safety of the runners. I was surprised to see runners in Sandals, crockers, some bare foot running in this marathon-this is a shame. Some women were seen running with their hand bags, and also wearing jewellery- is this marathon or a shopping spree? Hope it will better next time-but I still doubt about it?????

Such people can never be law abiding and God fearing. Now let’s watch and see when the Law will hang them to death for causing death and for selling drugs. After all, they must be served with their beliefs – An Eye for an Eye – otherwise if they had fear of God, they would never hack a person to death.
