Thank you Prof Nayak for exposing the various charlatans out to hoodwink the gullible. It is amazing to see how these charlatans get away with their misleading trades. And not many people make an effort to expose such charlatans. But, without expecting anything in return, you have provided a service to the community.

  • From Richard Thomas on Udupi Dist Administration holds Signature campaign to encourage young voters

Whoever organised this signature rally is simply pulling wool over students eyes. Better Karnataka? Does it really mean anything when those who were in authority and those who are in authority hate each other and their parties, and are demoralizing and demeaning each other on a daily basis that one can read in this media Mangalore.com and Deccan Herald. These students should first read all what is taking place now that the elections are on and come to their own beliefs and conclusions. For example in Mangalore, Ramakrishna Mission volunteers dedicate their time and energy to keep the city clean – who does this in Udupi? In Udupi, the students should only look for a BETTER UDUPI so that there will be cleaner surroundings, water, electricity, proper pavements, and better roads and security and police presence at all times, and ensure those in authority will work for the betterment of the town.

Any kind of good deeds performed by the Catholics all over India grabs the quick attention from the public because Catholics all over India give back a great deal to the public in the way of Education, Charitable gestures relating to Medical services and any other kind of worthy causes relating to so many noble causes. The Missionaries that came to India nearly two hundred years ago have come to India with a bag of noble causes by reaching out tens of thousands of needy people towards so many deserving services. May God take care of all the Catholics in India who are giving so much back to our communities and helping people of all cultures and religions in whichever way possible. This is what Christianity is all about, especially in countries such as India where we have abundance of needy people who deserve the very best from others.

The photographs of garbage displayed on this site should wake up the department concerned with the disposal of garbage. About six months ago i was there in MANGALURU, the city appeared quite neat. Shocked to see the depletion. Some hard decisions are required and the residents and street business vendors must take is as their responsibility to keep our place neat. Lets not have the problems of mega cities at our doorsteps.

“In conclusion…” writes this author before going onto blame it all on MCC and Govt officials. I wonder why this author is always hesitant to hold elected reps, especially MLAs, responsible for this failure? You think the MCC officials can operate independently without political pressure and influence from ruling party? How many cleanliness drives have been organized by local MLAs? They don’t even have the courtesy to show up for weekend campaigns by Ramaksishna ashrama. How come this author turns a blind eye to this total lack of seriousness and hypocrisy by local MLAs?

Congress has been power in India for a long time many a time under various great Indian personalities, but Indians still stands corrupt, poor, and divided! Pray and hope that Congress, under the young leadership of Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the Congress Party, and Mr. Rahul Gandhi will be selected as PM to govern and rule India, so that everything he is whining about and every thing he is promising today for the betterment of Indians and for a better India could be expected from him and his mother, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. Indians have to be in union in mind and in thoughts and in action to be able to achieve the end to all deceit, corruption, mismanagement, and the greed for power and parties and should stand as one Indian and one India!

Unless the mentality of Indians change, dirt, litter, and dumping will not end. In this instance, the Mangalore Municipality must arrange to place large garbage bins or the Contractor Anthony Waste Management to enable those dumping to dump in the garbage bins. In the meantime, the Rama Krishna mission should rope up some volunteers of the Airport Area Bajpe, and conduct a cleanliness drive. And the PM should compensate all the volunteers in cash or kind for their time and labour from the large loan he has taken from the World Bank for this purpose. Let’s be real and practical instead of whining all the times!

  • From Michele Westfall on Mangaluru: Karnataka to be Deaf Free State - Minister U T Khader

Three thoughts in relation to this article and their plan: 1) While it’s important to identify Deaf children as early as possible, simply identifying them will not cause the area to become a “Deaf-free state.” 2) Cochlear implants are not a cure. Additionally, they do not instantly turn the Deaf child into a hearing person…in other words, what the Deaf person gets through cochlear implants will not be equal to what hearing people hear. It’s not even close. 3) Most importantly, using terms “deaf mute” and “deaf and dumb” are both offensive to Deaf people, and people in India need to stop using these terms, as both are outdated and offensive. Additionally, aiming for a “Deaf-free state” is also very offensive and is akin to genocide. Being Deaf is not the same as being ill–it’s not a health condition. The best way to raise and educate Deaf children is to provide them with early access to Indian Sign Language (ISL) and make sure they become fluent in ISL. Fluency in ISL will ensure that they will transfer their linguistic knowledge to learning to read and write other languages. By the way, I’m Deaf and I don’t wear cochlear implant. I speak American Sign Language fluently and write English fluently.

  • From Richard Thomas on Service and Sacrifice of Police remembered on Flag Day in Udupi

It is truly hard to define the authority and duty of a Police personnel in India. Mostly, the Police personnel are used by political parties or protesting parties – where their presence is seen and felt. On any given day in the town of Mangalore or Udupi, one would rarely see a police man or a police woman otherwise. Traffic Police are the police seen at junctions and at some intersections. But should one point out to the Police man or the Traffic Police man on the bad state of roads or pot holes or lack of traffic lights on inter- sections or on junctions – the police do not take any action. So what is the authority and duty of a police man or a Traffic police man or woman.

God bless all those volunteers who are motivated to spend their time and energy in helping clean their hometowns and surroundings, under the leadership of the Ramakrishna Mission. Serving God and serving the Community is Love, and with love comes harmony, peace, and well being. Similarly, Specialist Doctors of various disciplines of medicine should also give back and reach out on a weekly basis to the poor and needy of their town and neighbourhood. A medicine and general nutrition drive also would help – so that people can donate general medicine such as toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash. bath soap, sanitary pads, pampers for babies, cold and cough syrups, health tablets and tonics, etc, People also should conduct food and clothes drives in Churches, Temples, and Mosques, where people can donate lentils, rice, sugar, wheat flour, rice flour, canned soups, mixed vegetables, fruits, etc, Used and good items of clothing for babies, girls and boys and shoes. books and toys for the poor and needy children and women, that can be distributed on a weekly basis in a Church hall or a Mosque Hall, to the poor and needy residents of that town or neighbourhood, on the basis of documenting the people to ensure that only genuine of the area are benefitting. People now must also take over governance of roadside vendors and create a system to alleviate their honesty in earning their daily bread, by documenting them, and allocating them areas where they can vend and also ensure hygiene and cleanliness especially if they are vending food.

  • From Richard Thomas on Hypertension and Its Effects on Your Body

Hypertension can be contained if one processes life and people and everything in-between in an acceptable and calm manner, Nobody really knows why what we call disease strikes our God made bodies. Research and Science and Doctors and Specialists are limited to their tall claims based on what they encounter and study. Same people also claim smoking causes cancer, and whereas little children too die of cancer! In my opinion, our lifestyle matters most in containing any disease, and it has nothing to do with eating healthy or poor nourishment, whether one goes to the gym or not. Hypertension is directly related to how we process our daily thoughts, needs, and challenges. If we need good education, we worry about big funds, if we have good education, we worry about a good job, if we have good jobs, we struggle with life’s challenges especially in India, with poor hygiene, poor amenities,, poor infrastructure, poor law and order, poor governance, and so on – it is these things that actually cause tension – what Researchers call Hyper Tension. If we stay calm and relaxed and accept how things generally are in India, we can process our mindset better, our body processes everything in a better manner. The older generation had less problems and stress and better health and less disease because they lived simple and enjoyed nature. Today no one has time for nature – it’s all about work, business, or money! Today, men go bald at age 25 and die at age 45

It was a pride to read that five eminent Alumnis of St. Aloysius College were officially recognized in Mangalore recently in the presence of a large congregation. Occasions such as these are not only valuable for the recipients but also for the new students so that they realize that sooner or later their time will also appear before them, and they too will be recognized in one form or another. As it was rightly pointed out, once you are an Aloysian, regardless how many years endured and what all Educational disciplines that you earned, you will always be branded as an esteemed Aloysian. Each and everyone of us therefore have a legitimate responsibility to give back to our Alma Mater in whichever way possible. St. Aloysius is a reputable Institution that has earned all the reputation in and around Mangalore for nearly two centuries, and the Jesuits have established the Institution with the help of so many Missionaries as well as the students and many other Mangaloreans in order to make the Institution survive from year to year and grow from stage to stage. Thank you, St. Aloysius, for all your dedication to the past and present students of St. Aloysius. May you be blessed ten fold in all your future contributions in and around Mangalore.

sorry – I don’t buy this ‘stunt’. Why don’t they come up with something original to India than blindly following what White man tell us to do? Turning off lights for an hour makes sense in a society where electricity is abundant and people waste energy by irresponsible behavior. On the other hand, India still struggles to find 24 hrs energy supply to citizens. People in western world use 3 – 4 times more energy than a typical indian on daily basis. If you care about earth and pollution, how about volunteering to keep your surrounding clean under ‘swachcha bhaaratha’ campaign? Or even better, have a ‘vegan’ day as meat consumption directly contributes climate change. Do something meaningful.

Actually, Mr. T.J. Abraham should file a complaint against Syndicate Bank, if he believes that banks should not lend above and beyond the mortgage value and that the authority RBI should investigate take appropriate action. That should rest the issue. If Mr Pramod Madhwaraj has been granted a loan above and beyond the mortgage value of the land, one does not see the problem that did affect Mr T.J. Abraham. Did Syndicate Bank deny him a similar loan? Of late, so many public and private sector banks are lodging complaints that are actually their misdeeds in lending against norm and banking principles and the law, and are only now asking the authorities to do something.

If studying for exams is considered as stress and burden, then may god help them to face the challenges life throws at them later on. They will have to juggle the pressure on many fronts – work, family, children, health, responsibility etc. Compared to that this is nothing. For students the only worry these days is to switch off their smart phone, sit down and study. Food and accommodation and other needs are fulfilled by parents anyway. So please do not try to make an issue where none exists. And stop cosseting them. That will only take away their confidence. Teach them to be independent. Human beings have survival skills built into their genes. So, throw them in cold water, they will learn to swim in no time. And they will thank you for doing it some day.

The change of seasons actually results in a lot of people falling sick which ends up in a doctor visit most of the times thus causing financial loss to people along with a waste of time and energy. In this context, the precautions and the measures mentioned will do a lot of good to people in general. We really need to educate people to take all possible precautions to stay healthy and protected at all times and this article can really help people to stay fit.

Madam – your daughter has been blessed with such an important position in the party. You should be proud of this. Rather you are burying yourself in the dirty political mud and tarnishing your daughter’s image. Please raise your problems with the party fora and sort out your difference. After 28 years being a congresswoman, how could you even think of dumping that party. It’s like a child ditching his own parents.

Why is Jitendra Kottari against Rachana holding their meeting? Is there any need for BJP’s permission for Rachana to hold any programme? Who are they to question Rachana? If they show their attitude towards Catholics in such a way now itself, what will be our fate if they come to power? The need of the hour is to think before you cast your precious vote!!!

  • From Valquirio de M. Barbalho on Renovating Our Churches? Quite the Reverse!

Just took notice that nowadays is a genealogist in India who probably could be some sort of cousin of mine. I come from Barbalho Family who have two representative in India: Luis Barbalho Bezerra, who went India around 1530 and Fernão Barbalho Bezerra, probably great or grand-nephew of Luis, who went India around 1680. Recently a discover a lineage in my family which had the last name Lobo. Was an important branch of the most noble Portuguese families. Even descendant of King Pedro I and all the Portuguese kings before him. One of these branch was Baltazar Lobo de Souza. He was first married to Joana Barbosa (maybe other name) and had at least 4 children. Three female and a male. The male, Henrique Lobo, was married e had one daughter in Portugal and died. So the three sister and a nice went to Brazil, at the old capital Salvador City. Them they were married to people from the most noble Portuguese Families in Brazil and now the are ancestors of a good part of Brazilians. Baltazar Logo married a second time and went to India. There we now know he had more 10 children. But we don’t know where they went after around 1567, when Baltazar died in Goa. At the time, Baltazar had other brothers living in India too. This is why I think we are related to a good part of people from India today. Unfortunately, the problem of not understanding the importance of conservation of historical places is not unique to India. In Brazil the problem is mostly the same. Common people don’t understand that it is a great opportunity to see the links beyond their own circle of life. And in case of tourism, it a enormous opportunity to do business. My genealogical studies are published in my blog: https://val51mabar.wordpress.com/. Unfortunately for those who don’t know how to read in Portuguese I don’t translated the genealogical texts to English. It is too much for me because I do the research without sponsorship. Congratulations to Dr. Michael Lobo to his good work. Sincerely, Valquirio de M. Barbalho.

Wait a minute – What exactly is the crime here? An adult took selfie with other adults. Is it illegal? What did he mean by ‘image of home guards’? Is there a law making selfies illegal? Was there any force or blackmail? They have suspended him even though there was no complaint or an internal investigation. This is wrong. Also, how come media is acting stupid and not questioning the authority in this case? Do our journalists even know how a free society is supposed to work? • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Karnataka Social Club-Bahrain hosts Konkan Idol 2018

It is gratifying to witness such a large congregation of young students prevailing in Bahrain and that is a good evidence to realize the size of Karnataka communities that exist in a small Kingdom. Having children at the workplace in the Gulf countries is the best advantage Indian parents can enjoy so that the parents can give their very best to their employers and create a mutual benefit for all. Children of Indian origin growing in the Gulf region have a multiple advantage. Not only the parents can witness their children growth in their very presence, but also many of the prospective students can always plan their further Academic education abroad with a greater support and confidence. Having children in the Gulf makes the working environment much easier and more comfortable. We had our own two sons born and raised in Saudi Arabia, and we knew some of the best advantages of having them in our very presence and witness their growth and welfare.

He may dissolve the parliament before term and seek a fresh mandate. Likely after the monsoons may be around Diwali time. He won’t need allies when he can manage a straight simple majority. If BJP emerges as the single largest party, Arun Jaitley is likely to be the BJP candidate for the PM post. On the other hand, as he may have difficulty in winning the seat, Nitin Gadkari may be the surprise choice. As far as the Cong I is concerned, they can live in a fool’s paradise. They won’t cross 60 seats in any case. Didi and Naidu will try to upstage each other and Naisu will end up bowing off. Left and Didi do not tolerate each other. Neither do YSR and TDP. It is doubtful that SP will hold on to BSP. Only other strong party is BJD in Orissa. All these together can just hope. So don’t be surprised if Pappu gets pregerren e over Naidu and Didi. Poor Police Dept. – Phone-in Program is a good way to interact with them – but then one can see why there is no similar program with the Mangalore Municipality or the Public Works Dept, or with the Minister-In-Charge, who are the actual authority to oversee and build or maintain on a regular basis all the bad roads drainage, and pavement and as well to foresee parking or roadside vendors. People must first be the CHANGE to see the CHANGE, and only they can solve the appalling situations or conditions that people in general, complain of in Mangalore or in India. Unimaginable taxes are collected as revenue in sales of all vehicles and apartments and shops – and one can only wonder what is ailing India in general – is it Funds or is it proper utilisation. India is the largest importer of arms and ammunition in the world. Our PM is the most travelled man in the world. One can read all these headlines – so how come people in India do not have good roads, drainage, pavements and other amenities and facilities.

Actor Prakash Rai has substance in his opinion and view of India and it’s version of Democracy. Sadly, the general public is far too timid and naive in not questioning or in agreeing to every decision the state or the central government implements, without people’s agreement or benefit, such as Demonetisation – whom did it benefit? Only the working middle class people were at the mercy of their own banks, having to stand for hours to exchange the old notes for new ones with limits that did not suit anyone’s expenses or budgets, and at the central government dictating every week how much money they could withdraw and how much money one could spend! Aadhar Card – How does it benefit – in fact our PM is asking everyone to give up subsidies for which Aadhar Card was originally implemented. Was not the country functioning well before the Aadhar Card? Public Banks and businessmen scandals and lowering of interest rates to contain their crime and loss.

I can give a few examples to make it easier for you to understand. Imagine a situation wherein the identity of gold smugglers are intentionally hidden by media outlets on daily basis. Imagine a situation where ‘journalists’ intentionally ignore potential ISIS influence on local youth but lecture everyone on noise pollution due to Deepavali. Imagine a situation where ‘journalists’ shamelessly protect a local politician while blaming MCC officials. Sounds familiar? As I have said many times on this forum, in a third-world country, everything tends to follow the third-world standards. Be it justice system or journalism.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on St Aloysius College Celebrates 'Annual College Day 2018'

Out of so many virtuous memories and sentiments that I possess about my beloved St. Aloysius College, the most valuable lesson that I deeply cultivated in myself was the spirit of patriotism as well as the spirit of Secularism. St. Aloysius was a hundred percent Christian Institute of Education but the Jesuits taught us the value of being patriotic to the country that we proudly belonged, and the dedication we owed to the newly liberated Nation from the British colonialism. Next thing was the beauty of secularism. We had so many teachers and students who were non-Christians yet we happily survived and prospered as a family of one religion, and we all survived as an united family of one faith. While the Catholics obediently went to our beautiful Chapel for our devotion and prayer, we witnessed the Hindus and Moslems went to their respective class rooms for their own religious affiliation. Majority of the bright students during my time were the Hindus and Moslems, and we were indeed proud of them and adored them. I have continuously visited the Beeri complex of St. Aloysius College for MBA, and have always keenly visited the Chapel where we can vividly see a corner for other faiths in addition to the Christian faith within the four walls of serenity and faith. All of the above features are truly impressive and praiseworthy, and we are grateful to St. Aloysius for transplanting the value of secularism from the very inception of our Educational involvement at the Jesuit Institute.

Yes, citizens of Karnataka, both boys and girls, men and women, must be encouraged to be agile, fit, and athletic, and to make use of Sports complexes and Stadiums, such as the one Udupi town that has a track, swimming, and gymnasium facilities, in field games such as soccer, hockey, volleyball, basketball, tennis, badminton, and cricket, and as well participate in town, state, inter-states, and other professional level meets in India and in other Asian and South East Asian and European countries. Indians have good climatic conditions to train, and as well as good food available priced moderately, and also have good facilities to train and develop. Encouragement, motivation, and rewards for sportsmanship should be carried out by all societies. The real Congress President, Sonia Gandhi is advising Karnataka Congress party people WE HAVE TO DO OUR BEST TO RETURN TO POWER! These two parties, the Congress and the BJP are only after their personal interest and TO BE IN POWER! What does that literally mean? Why should the people of Karnataka give any party POWER over their lives and their State? After all, Sonia or Rajiv Gandhi or Amit Shah are certainly not from Karnataka, and are only now pouncing on Karnataka, where are they when there is an acute water shortage, acute power shortage, lack of rain and acute shortage of fruits and vegetables. The people in any party are voted/elected to WORK FOR THE BETTERMENT in the interests of all people of Karnataka, whether or not they favour and vote for either or neither of the parties. This year onward the people of Karnataka should study just exactly what is on the table in the interest of the people lives and for the betterment of development of the State in general, and what are the plans laid out by the elected party, and when and if those plans are ever implemented and who holds the keys to see such development. If no progress is witnessed as laid out and planned, the elected party should be replaced for inefficiency, and the people must not wait for 4-1/2 years for implementation of plans just a few months prior to the next election, as is being carried out right now by the party that was voted in the interests of the people by the people. After all, people in Karnataka should only hope for a better village, town, or a city with professional grade public works and international standard of life, with ample food, water, and electricity, with good roads, good pavements, good bus shelters, car parking lots, with good security and law and order, with ample opportunities for all those youth for jobs and income for a better life. A PARTY THAT WILL WORK IN THEIR INTERESTS ONLY SHOULD BE THEIR PRIMARY CONCERN

People must stop spitting, littering, and urinating in the streets – and a survey will conclude that only MEN are behind all the miseries of the society in general. They purchase ghutka and litter the packs and spit it out when done, they purchase beedis or cigarettes and throw the butts around, they urinate in street corners, and only they rape and murder! • From Richard Thomas on People Who Went 'HUNGRY' to 'Indira Canteen' had to Return Back 'HUNGRY?'

There is nothing surprising if an item of food is no longer available – irrespective of a time established by the Restaurant – this happens even in the largest, and the best of Restaurants. Besides, Indira Canteens should cater only to the poor and hungry, and not to Masons, Vegetable Vendors, etc., who earn more than a clerk in a bank, Good and cheap food should be made available to the poor, to the homeless, to the beggars, the jobless, and to the people of that area only – and not truck drivers and taxi drivers, etc. This concept of Indira Canteen will never work, not unless some parameters are taken into study and consideration. In the USA Food Banks are open for the poor and hungry where around US$.150,- worth of fresh, packaged, canned, chilled, frozen, ready to eat, and baked products and produce and milk and cheese is freely given three times a month, and the criteria is one should either be a poor senior citizen, or disabled citizen, or out of work, and/or whose monthly income is below US$.2500.- and must be a resident of that area and community or zip code. All businesses such as WalMart to COSTCO, to large Dairies, to Pizza Hut, to Bakeries to Florists, to Churches and people of the community, donate generously in cash or kind regularly out of love for it’s less fortunate community members. It’s the people and not the US government that establishes such Food Banks. Just because the elections have drawn near the Congress party has hurriedly set up Indira Canteens without proper study or any experience. it’s purely politics!

Wish you all the best. Anna daana shreshtam. Providing 3 meals a day is danam only these days. You can hardly buy one dosa with that money. Does the govt have to bear the deficit? Even so it is good for labour class people, auto rickshaw drivers, college students and small income population. I over estimated the no of votes Ashraf Bhai can get with the green flag. I am afraid with this canteen business now he can settle for 3000.

Best Wishes to you, Mr. Ozzie Sequeira, on your 75th Birthday. We still remember you on your maiden attempt in the movie acting in “Mogh and Mypass” which was indeed a bold attempt on the part of so many to come forward and create a maiden Konkany movie. Wilfie Rebimbos’s musical achievement is still remembered, and so also the maiden effort of Capt. Merwyn Pinto who single handedly financed the project and made it a success. We still remember, when we once went on our vacation to India, we craved the desire to see the movie “Mogh and Maypass”, and Capt. Merwyn Pinto arranged to screen the movie for us by chartering the entire “Roopavani” theater to release the two hour movie exclusively for a group of twenty family members. We sat like “Maharajas” in the spacious theater and watched the movie in style. At the end of the program we all sat together and analysed the pros and cons of the movie and advised Capt. Merwn Pinto to plan the movie production well so as to make it into a profitable and beneficial project. All in all, it was a good and worthwhile maiden project and we were all proud that Capt. Merwyn Pinto’s maiden attempt was a success.

Mr Alfie has a great sense of ethics and responsibility, but is living in a wrong city – and a wrong country, and highlighting important civic issues locally, is like pouring water on a Ducks’ back! Most people walk in India ,but the people in authority make no effort to provide good quality pavements and a good closed drainage system when new roads are constructed or old roads are being widened or concretized, These projects are tendered separately for reasons best known to them and the quality of the existing pavements and drainage is proof of why flooding takes place every monsoon – Sadly, down in India, everything is politically governed – politicians do not walk – they just whiz by in cars that have roads cleared of all traffic and with the police escort so they really do not see anything but themselves and their parties.

Welcome to Mangalore, Rev, Fr, Arturo Sosa, SJ., and we wish you a comfortable and interesting tour of Mangalore, the “Rome of the East”. Mangalore has always remained grateful to the Jesuits for the quality of Education that six Jesuit Missionaries brought to Mangalore more than a century ago and spread their influence on so many Humanitarian and Educational values that have strongly been entrenched in our entire society. St. Aloysius College is indeed founded in a most important site in Mangalore where thousands of students from all religious backgrounds and cultural backgrounds have prospered so well and have given back abundance of their wealth and expertize to the Community and also the Country. Then came the Fr. Muller’s Hospital at Kankanady, and thereafter the Seminary and the Workshop at Jeppoo. These are all important landmarks of Mangalore where the Missionaries have left behind a strong legacy of dedication of Charity and Integrity for the benefit of the entire region. Welcome to Mangalore, once again, and wish you a comfortable and educative trip to our beloved home town.

Nobody truly knows what development works were carried out from the Rs.2000 Cr. grant that is being claimed by Mr, Pramod Madhwaraj. A substantiation to this tall claim would have improved the credibility of this article, The erratic power supply and outage has never ceased and MESCOM hardly cares! The state of main roads have never improved unless protests are carried out – Manipal is a great example. The drainage system has never been reconstructed to meet the rise in population and area wise density. The Storm water natural drainage system is rarely desilted or cleaned unless protests are carried out. Not a single new covered Bus Stop either for private buses or KSRTC buses were erected in Udupi. The Municipal Fruits and Vegetable market in Udupi town is not revamped or concretized. Not a single public Pay and Park or Free Parking Lot or building has been constructed inspite of the ever-growing volume of cars/bikes due to the ease of lending by banks and revenue for the Traffic Dept. The homes allocated to the poor and homeless are taking forever to be constructed and delivered in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Manipal. And the list of what is truly required as development for the public is exhaustive

Although our Konkany Society is small, we have earned a great reputation in South Kanara thru the untiring efforts of a handful of Konkany stalwarts such as you. Our Konkany community is moving in the right direction, and there is lot more progress to witness in future days thru all the help and support of many able dignitaries, and you too are included. We all have our differences in this challenging world, and if there is any way you can share your grievances with others, and if there is any possibility for you to “mend your barriers” in any way possible, and continue your expertise to the Konkany Museum Project, please do so, as your presence will continue to be of tremendous use to our Community. Sadly, in a nation, where the PM and FM boast of industrial and financial growth, the people in India, who use the road and public buses, have to resort to demands and protests, and sometimes violence for basic amenities and good infrastructure. The Chief Minister of Karnataka is responsible, not only to revamp Bangalore, but also Mangalore and Udupi Districts, and as well as other Districts and Towns and Cities of Karnataka. The Municipality, without being told, must construct Bus Stops with lighting and seating fitted with a garbage can, and walk over footbridges for the benefit of all. People pay taxes in all forms that must be first utilized for the benefit of the people, rather than pay fat salaries to those in the government that do not come to the aid of the people.

Also, Mr Yedurappa and the BJP did govern Karnataka prior to the present Congress party, and what has Mr Yedurappa to boast about any development or betterment of Karnataka or for its people. Mr Amit Shah does not convince anyone but himself in giving empty talks just because the people of Karnataka have extended courtesy to invite him – but surely not cause division amongst people of Karnataka. He should substantiate his talks on corruption to convince the people of Karnataka and not to fool the poor fishermen community of Malpe. The Central Government should also confirm what Mr Amit Shah confirmed along with the FM and PM, who are all one team.

  • From Sukumar Talpady on Anantkumar Hegde stokes new row, this time on Kannada

In my opinion , the Minister has not said any thing serious on the way of speaking Kannada by the people of different districts of Karnataka. Yes the people of Uttara Kannada, Udupi and DK , Shimoga speak Kannada clearly which are almost like Text Book Kannada. Minister should have added Kodagu, Hassan districts also in this list. Mysuru is also eligible for this list. Barring these districts, Kannada spoken in other districts are having different slant. Kannada spoken in Belgaum and Dharwad, Haveri is affected by Marathi influence . In Bidar and Kalburgi Raichur it is affected by Urudu and Marathi. When I went to Bidar and Kalburgi , it was very difficult for me to adjust with their way of talking Kannada for one to two years. They openly said that they can not speak Kannada like the way we speak. It is Telugu influence in Bellary, Pavagada , Kolar and Chikballapur. In Begaluru it is totally different. It is mixuture of English, Telugu, and Tamil . A moment these people hear a Mangalorean speak Kannada they immediately recognise that man is from Mangaluru . Of course Tulu has influence in Mangaluru Tulu . The language spoken in Kundapura is totally different. Mangaloreans find it difficult to follow that slant. I would say the Kannada spoken in North Kanara (like Karwar, Bhatkal etc) has the influence of Konkani . So the statement of the Minister is not wrong and he has just expressed his opinion and there is no need to tender apology or any action is to be taken. Even Hindi is spoken differently in each districts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Malayalam is different in Kasargod and Ernakulam districts of Kerala. So why not kannada ?

May God bless all those girls, boys, women, and men, who are motivated in keeping their city of Mangalore clean and free of dirt and disease, and devoting their time in Volunteering for a good cause. This example should follow in all Indian cities such as Mumbai that needs cleanliness. These Volunteers should be awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation and a treat in the form of a party to celebrate their efforts on behalf of the Municipality that does not carry out it’s responsibilities. The State Gov. should divert the funds collected on the Swaach Bharath Tax to fund the efforts of these Volunteers.

Saudi Arabia, from all our decades of dedication towards the Kingdom, as always demonstrated many humanitarian involvements. Saudi Arabia has tried to unify all the Arab and Islamic groups all over the world to unify their cause for peace and stability throughout the region. Even on major issues of Oil production and pricing, Saudis have always played an important role in moderating their cause in the interest of Global neutrality and peace. Being the custodians of Holy Places, the role of the Saudis in so many areas pertaining to the cause of normalcy, has played active role in negotiating with other nations, particularly in the Middle East with a view to achieve a mutually beneficial role. We are therefore proud that Saudi Arabia has taken the initiative in promoting a Forum with a view to encourage many other nations to come up with a Humanitarian Forum with a view to share the global viewpoints and see in which way they can contribute towards the human related causes and purposes. let the Kingdom encourage so many nations to come up with new ideas that will benefit the entire population of the world so that there is more justice and peace all over the World, with a particular focus on the Middle East.

The spirit of “Consumerism” is certainly spreading fast and faster all over India, specially in the “Smart Cities” where the affluence is strongly visible with rich and educated people with highly reputable positions. “Buy now and pay later” is also becoming prevalent with the facility of a Credit Card in India, and also the lavish Bank loans for all good occasions, including marriages. With the population growth added with the Economic growth, India is one of the fast developing nation where Education is thriving, hence job prospects are good and so also the buying power of the people. New fashions and new designs will continue to flourish in a country such as India where millions of people are nowadays travelling abroad and witnessing the affluence all over the world. New shopping centers and also new fashions will therefore appear more rapidly all over the towns and cities, and the young people will soon embrace the new fashions to suit with the affluent society. Consumerism is good for India so that the economic conditions will always be on the rise. Let the country move forward with more affluence and more fashionable living.

I am not sure I can feel so proud about Mangalore where people still exhibit uncivilized behavior and littering all over the place. I am proud of the Mangalore of the sixties and seventies or even Eighties. I can not say that I feel the same way now. One fish dish costing Rs1000/? Day light robbery in restaurants. Some thing to feel proud of? Eve teasing on one hand, moral policing on the other? Feel proud? Lousy sultry weather which makes the people pray for uninterrupted electricity. Proud? Shock laga, shock laga, shock laga. Traffic jam on MG Road especially on Saturdays? Comfortable? Unhygenic practices in restaurants. Clean city? Really? Proud again? It is always REVENUE for the Corporation, REVENUE for the government! And finally, all this revenue is used up to pay salaries of Staff and pay Contractors, who carry out sub-standard works on projects favoured unto them or who do not carry maintenance at all! The Sewerage, The Stormwater drainage, the pavements, the roads, the security, the overall maintenance and cleanliness must be monitored on daily basis, and maintained on a daily basis with a great acceptable standard in quality material and workmanship. Poor quality material and workmanship by Contractors and No objection by those in authority over such Contracts and Contractors, only lead to more complaints from citizens and more expenses for the Corporation and the Government, that in turn require more REVENUE, and this cycle of life has no end in INDIA! Siddaramaiah? How many times the Bishops and the community leaders had to visit Yeddyurappa to release the young men who tried to defend their brothers and sisters when the street goons along with the patronage of the police went to attack them inside the Churches while they were praying? Finally, the fake rhetoric of PM Modi in millions of job creation is turning like a big hoax. How many millions of college graduates, engineering graduates etc without job? If there is a peon job opening with a High School certificate as the requirement, PhDs will be applying. PM Modi had no idea, how the jobs can be created. He thought that jobs will come down from heaven as he is speaking. Also he was under a false notion that his rhetoric will attract FDI by the trillions to create jobs in India through establishing thousands of factories. FDI will not land in a nation like India with religious friction-broken law and order-red tape etc. Finally, let the graduates start selling peanuts and pakovada.

After spending huge amount for education anticipating a job based on that education, suggesting to them go to the army or start selling peanuts is a big paradox. • From Original R.Pai on Rationalists Ate to Debunk Myths while Watching Lunar Eclipse

“DYFI district secretary Santhosh Bajal said this is an attempt to put an end to blind practices and spread scientific temper in young minds” – Report on an event organized by a pseudo-rationalist and his sidekicks in DYFI. As I have said many times before, I am all for fighting blind practices. But I am consistent and honest in my approach unlike these opportunistic activists who have ruined the reputation of real atheists and rationalists. These guys go and hide under table when it comes blind practices from minority communities.

  • From sas on Siddaramaiah terms Union Budget ‘direction-less’

How could Siddu understand the budget when his mind is biased and his brain is dead. For him, it is easy to criticize even without going through the budget which probably his fickle mind is incapable to digest.

  • From Joe D'Souza on BJP Preparing for Elections with 'Negative Publicity Vs Development' - Vinayraj

Mr Vinayraj, please do not get angry. I had requested You to repair the Foot Path from St.Aloysius Tech.School to PVS Circle. It is Your Ward, and You should have taken care of it. I spoke to you many times regarding this and more than year passed. This evening a 4 year Child would have lost her Innocent Life in front of Royal Chamber Building by falling into Gutter. God saved Her. About this shaking Concrete Slab,I even spoke to Mayor. She promised to take care but year passed. The above incident happened in front of Me and Mr.Hegde who is a Notary Lawyer, who has office inside Royal Chamber. According to You, there is “No Money”. But there is 65 Lakhs for Interlocks near Light House where no one could have died except Votes lost. Now there are 90 Lakhs for Clock Tower. There were Lakhs for Kid’s Train at Park and so on. But there is no money to save innocent People’s Life and little Children’s life from falling and dying on unsafe footpaths. Politicians have no time for Good Humane Actions, but got lot of time for Criticizing Speeches and Accusations pin pointing opposition. Again I request you to take care of that foot path before I contact Media in this matter. Thanks to You.

  • From drona on Tick Tock...'Clock Tower' Costing Rs 90 Lakhs Coming Up in City! Do We Really Need One?

Clock tower was a land mark for our generation. Obviously the city fathers have realised it after demolishing it. Now they are trying to replace it for the future generations to make them feel proud about ‘namma kudla’. So what is the objection about?

Appears from the scenes pictured above, there was lack of organisation and scant respect for hygiene. For such a good event, the municipal workers or NGOs should have been involved to keep the place clean. This is tarnishing the upcoming smart city’s reputation.

  • From Max and Jessie Rasquinha on Mangalore Diocese to Hold DIAFERENCE - 2K18 on Feb 11

Youth involvement in kind of Diocesan activities should be encouraged at all levels thru each and every parish. The Priests as well as the Nuns should meet the youth, both men and women, and get them involved in as many activities and make them volunteer in as many occasions as possible. The youth of today need something more attractive to make them actively participate in various Church activities where the youth should be able to produce result thru their own initiatives. Seasonal Youth Retreats are also part of attraction where the young men and women are made to seclude themselves and venerate together with a purpose of grouping their ideas that will benefit the Diocese. The Youth also should be provided with some social interactions, including sports, picnics, choir practices, fund raising activities, church garden services, aftter Sunday Church coffee and snacks for parishnors, and many other services that make the youth earn the limelight of the occasions. We must all appreciate the fact that the time has changed, and the youth of today desire much greater things than the good old days. Let the Youth perform the best they have, and let them be recognized by the Diocese officially and the publicity reach every household so that the youth realize that their efforts are being recognized and rewarded.

While many of the onlookers simply clicked photos and uploaded in social media, and joked about the incident while the students were beaten up, it was indeed nice of Team Mangalorean Alphy Dsouza to step in and work a peaceful way out, rather than make things worse – a job well done. Hope the students have learned a lesson now- not to get TOO drunk and make a fool out of themselves- and face all the consequences from the public.
